When I came to his studio, I had just left another barber after a bad experience, so I was pretty wary of trying a new barber. Ry put my mind at ease with his attention to detail and nailing my haircut on the first try (and every visit since then). I have straight, thick Japanese hair, and it's very easy to tell when an unskilled or undisciplined barber cuts my hair - with Ry it has been spot-on every time. Ry's Studio is a laidback, single chair, live-work shop that shares a space with his lovely family and two dogs. The vibe is friendly and comfortable, but not all up in your business like some barbershops. If you're used to chain barbershops or shops in the suburbs, he might seem a little expensive, but I shopped around for a while in this area and all the high end shops have comparable prices. If you need your hair to be on point and want to be confident in professional consistency, Ry is the guy. One tip: Because this is a live-work studio with dogs, he keeps his door locked. Just give a firm knock on the door and Ry will let you in.

Uneven, jagged layers-- I went back a few days later to get it fixed and it looked somewhat better in how the hair falls. I have long, thin, straight hair. Very fine so you notice EVERYTHING. After 30 years in the business, I don't understand how I even left with the hair cut that he gave me. But really, now there is MORE of an issue and there are way too many layers around my face. I have a literal shelf in my haircut now, which is the same issue I spent two years growing out. I told him this before cutting that I had done that, and I left with a shelf worse than the one I had come in with. After the revisit-- it was EVEN worse. Thicker, with more unwanted layers in his trying to fix it. In all of it, he used maybe two tools, when I know professional stylists have at least 3 pairs of shears +special use styling shears. He is very nice, and great to his customers but I feel his technique needs some updating. Though he is a very sweet person, I will not be returning for my hair needs. First, the actual price when I went to pay was more than what it said on the website and what it said at the time of the booking. I was surprised that the haircut itself only took about 10 minutes, and I am not sure if the length was checked. Once I washed my hair (a couple of days later) and it was straight again, I noticed that the left side was shorter than the right and reached out to the stylist. The stylist said she would just round out the right side to match the left. I mentioned that I wanted to grow out the left side a bit before having corrections made because I didn't want any more length taken off. She said that that would count as a whole new haircut. Since I just paid for one, I didn't think that "solution" was reasonable at all.
