My wife and I attended a performance at the Comedy Bar on Monday, February 26, 2024. While the food from Gino's East was good (salad, artichoke dip, and wine), the actual show was miserably poor. The format for the show was a stand-up comic serving as a talk-show host and showcasing four, local comedians for brief sets. Each of the four comedians was vulgar (every other word seemed to be the "F- word"), rude and demeaning of themselves and the audience, and not in the least bit funny. The consistent topics of choice were: alcoholism, marijuana use, sexual promiscuity, and Jeffrey Dahmer. My wife and I have attended many other comedy shows where we have thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. This show was a train-wreck from the start and only got worse. The comics' fallback position was to use excessive profanity and make references to their sexual prowess or alcoholism as a means of saving one bad joke/line on top of another. There was no storytelling that would capture an audience member and make someone really care about the comics' lives. To say that we felt cheated by this show was an understatement. Our recommendation is to avoid this show at all costs. The producers got our money and they cared not one iota for putting forth a decent product. read more

New venue one the third floor of Gino's East Pizza. My husband and I really wanted Gino's and thought this was a nice bonus to attend a show while enjoying a meal, unfortunately I was wrong. I called prior to the show to confirm we did not need to get there early to eat. We were seated for the 7:30 show enjoyed drinks and a salad but no pizza. Our our pizza came after the entire show was over, around 8:45 and then we were rushed to eat it and leave before the 9:00 show. One star goes for the venue, one star goes for the comedian, and one star is there because I am generous. I really liked the space. It was small but very well decorated. My experience there was meh, however. I didn't expect it to be amazing because let's be realistic, it is a comedy spot but I frankly didn't expect to have crappy service and awful frozen food that cost me a paycheck. The server got us one round of drinks and never showed up again. The kicker was that they were out of everything. It took our server 3 tries/trips to tell us that they were out of the most basic beers on the first show on a Saturday night. The manager of this place needs to be fired. Or learn basic skills to have somewhat of a full bar. Anyway, will I return? Probably because I am sure that there will be funny comedians. Awesome, casual rooftop spot for some great comedy! The rooftop venue is really appealing - who doesn't love a Chicago rooftop in summer? It was a solid lineup of about 6 comedians. They each had a great style and set. Fast paced and super entertaining! It felt great to laugh so much. Very friendly and welcoming service. Since it's above Gino's, most of the people around us were enjoying a pizza. I ordered the pink lemonade cocktail with fresh muddled raspberries and basil - it was delish! Very boozy yet refreshing. We shared the appetizer that came with breadsticks, spinach sticks and mozzarella sticks. Straightforward yet still tasty. The giardiniera ranch was really good for dipping! Tables were spaced out well and everyone wore masks so it felt like all appropriate precautions were taken for Covid. Definitely buy tickets and check them out! read more

Tonight, was one of the worst experiences I had in Chicago in terms of hospitality, and I really should have taken the clues and went home. I have a place in the 60611-zip code, 0.3miles and a 6-minute walk to The Comedy Bar. I arrived early, 7PM for an 8PM show and considered that Thursday night might not be a majorly busy night, decided that I could go without a prepaid ticket. When I arrived the ticket booth told me they were sold out and considering the concerns Chicago had over Covid, there would be no sharing tables. I should have gone home, however I left, went to the street and promptly was able to buy a ticket. So, I went back in, told them I have a ticket and was shown to a table on the side by myself. Ordered a beer and waited for the show to begin. Show started, actually I was enjoying myself, was over half way done with my drink, so I called over to the waitress, Robin, and ordered another beer. Several other patrons ordered after me, served before me and eventually was brought my second beer of the night. I actually told my waitress that I thought she forgot about me and she reported that they were very busy. The show began and after a period, the hostess came by the table with another patron and seated someone at my table. When I ordered my third beer, I was asked by the manager to please come with him. He told me that the waitress felt uncomfortable, said I was slurring my words and I was being cut off. I told him that I only had two drinks, but ok. He offered water or soda, and I politely declined. I stayed for the entire show, still enjoyed myself then went home. The funny thing, besides the comics, was that I was excited that I had a nice venue that I planned to frequent weekly, and now I don't plan to ever visit again. I would NOT recommend The Comedy Bar. read more

First comedian, awesome! Second comedian, good. Last comedian.... blah. Best I can describe him. But that's almost out of the bars control. Maybe he was better at other times. What they can control are their servers. The server in the section next to us looked awesome and was working hard. But our server, Jo or Joe, she was no where to be found the entire show. She got us our drinks 30 minutes before it started and then she showed back up at the end for us to pay the bill. Our group had 3 tables. She could have made a killing as we all waited to order more drinks and food, but instead everytime I tried to wave her down she looked the other way. It would have been disappointing, but having to watch the other server work so hard the entire show made it frustrating because all we needed was for her to maybe come and check once. So if I ever go back, I'll be asking to make sure I don't have her as my server. And I highly doubt I'll be back considering how many places there are to see comedy in chicago that have good bars and servers. read more
