Decided to go here last night with my husband for date night and we had a really good time. My husband purchased tickets online for $65.00 total for a 7:30pm show and we were there from about 7:15pm to 9:15 pm. Pros: Tim Smith (the headliner) was HILARIOUS! I'm not kidding. Most of his set he played off the crowd interaction and stories and he was just so so funny about everything! His jokes were great too, but, it's just something so cool about a comedian who can play off a crowd really well. Another pro is that even though there were only 2 servers on each side of the venue they were still really quick with coming around to our table and taking our orders. Finally, even though we didn't order any food I saw a lot of folks ordering pizza from Gino's on the menu and it looked and smelled so good. I didn't see anybody complaining and their food was gone! Cons: The drinks aren't anything special. You'd be better off drinking before you come honesty unless you just don't care and want the experience. Another con is that the first two comedians were just "ok". Some laughs here and there but nothing to write home about. Finally, the freaking staircase on the way in!!! Please prepare yourself for the stair master workout of your life before you get in. I was winded but once you're up there your good to go. You should think twice before calling yourself a comedy bar. The only thing comedic about this was the fact that not ONE person in the audience was letting out a good stomach laugh. An opening act about sucking the popsicle? Really? Could you be any more immature? Ok then I thought maybe second act would be better, nope it was about devouring the bakery. Third one was the whole spectrum, corn. I get it, we're all adults, but HOW does one call those jokes. It's just embarrassing. Not to mention, everyone was eating while listening to these. It was so embarrassing that I couldn't even pity laugh. It was so embarrassing that my friends and I left after the third act. I won a coupon off a free spin advertisement we were told it was completely free, once we got there we were informed that we needed to buy tickets. We decided to buy tickets and attend the show. We ordered waters ( with the conception thinking it was free but wasn't informed until after, either way we still would've ordered them but it would've been nice to know before hand ) and once we got them, then we were informed about the 2 item per person policy. Mind you there was another couple who just had 1 drink per person the entire show and nothing was said to them. Me and my friends were the 1st people there ( an hour early) and got our food relatively late compared to the people who came later than us ( 30 mins or more ). We ordered fries and gave us an empty bottle of ketchup and told us they would bring us another one. But never did until we reminded them 15 mins or more. I also ordered a cookie that we didn't get until once again reminded half way through the show. During the last two performances we saw the waiter make rounds to check out orders except us. When the show ended she still didn't come to us even as the last people there. We assumed we had to pay up front but as we were leaving the stage room, then she decided to come check us out with an attitude. Our server was passive aggressive ( blonde middle aged lady ) and overall the service wasn't good. Before we left we asked another waiter if they're suppose to inform customers about their policy before they order and he said they are but we weren't informed. It seems like the staff didn't have too much structure on how the company operates (as I got numerous different answers from different staff members ) and especially the advertisement they were running. The performers were pretty good but the service outweighed for my negative experience. As a business owner it's important to hire people that will represent and respect your brand but from my experience at The Comedy Bar my waitress DID NOT execute her job at all. Me and my friends were joking about being on a prank show the whole night, but also seriously hoping we were. Leaving out we talked to another group of people who shared the same experience. As someone who just wanted to enjoy a comedy show and not feel trapped into to spend extra money this isn't a recommendation! read more

Would give this a 5 star but felt totally ripped off on the drink prices for the dixie cup size cocktails. If you're going to charge the same rates as the upscale establishments in Detroit, then serve a full-size glass (or even a bigger plastic cup). This was the first actual comedy bar experience my husband and I have had, but we figured when in Chicago, we should probably watch some comedy. It didn't hurt that there was a Groupon deal for this place which came with two tickets and a free appetizer. Unfortunately, the night ended up being a dud. The headliner, Brady Matthews, performed some of the worst stand-up we've ever seen. His set was very short and he spent almost the entire time doing crowd work. While we enjoy some good crowd work, none of his was funny, and we spent the entire time waiting for him to get to his actual material, which he never did. Meanwhile he kept ribbing the audience (and not in a funny way) for not laughing more. Come on, dude. We're here to watch actual stand-up, not listen to you ask half the audience one by one where they are from and struggle to find something funny about it. The opening comics were mostly okay, except for one guy who was excellent (so much better than the headliner) and one guy who was so cringey that we wanted to leave. I've learned that the comedy in this place is really hit or miss and wish they would do a better job of vetting the comics before allowing people to pay for tickets here (even my Groupon discount felt like too much to watch this). For our free app, we chose the fried calamari and ordered a couple of drinks. The drinks were fine, but the fried calamari was some of the worst I've ever had. Very salty, overdone to the point of extreme chewiness, and most of the plate was fried peppers instead of calamari. It was clearly frozen food chucked into a deep fryer and left in there too long. The only bright spot was that our waitress was great and did a good job of making sure we were taken care of without intruding in our enjoyment of the show. Overall, I'd recommend this venue only if you're familiar with the comic or are willing to pay to watch (potentially) bad stand-up. Judging by the otherwise great reviews, it seems like we just got unlucky. However, we wouldn't chance another visit here given how bad of a night we had. read more

Very fun. Really cool comedy club downtown Chicago next to Gino's East. There is a separate door for the club from Gino's, so if you see a line at Gino's pass that and go to the further door. Beware of the staircase. Not sure if they have an elevator, but we climbed about 3 floors of a narrow and dark stairwell. I was actually winded by the time we made it to the top. So, be careful when you leave because you've most likely had a couple drinks. Once you're up there it's nice. The audience floor isn't big but big enough for small show acts. There were 3 comedians and I think the last one was the headliner that came in from out of town. All were very funny and we had a great time. read more

We were inside since it was November so the outdoor stage wasn't open. The tables seat 4 so since we were a party of 2 we sat with a couple. We chatted before the show and they were fun to talk to. I think the drink and food prices were pretty good. Not too expensive. We had a couple drinks and we also ordered spinach and artichoke dip and small pizza. I was excited when I was looking for things to do in the area and saw that their menu was from Gino's East because I love their food and I'm not in Chicago a lot. I told my friend we had to get their sausage patty for our pizza because it's one of their signatures and I love it. The spinach and artichoke dip was really really amazing and served with chips. The pizza was good too and I enjoyed it. The comedians were good. They headliner had a few specials on tv before and did pretty good. My first time to The Comedy Bar and I must say I am very much impressed! I would definitely recommend this venue for date night or just a girls night out for laughs, eats, and drinks. I usually attend another venue out in Schaumburg for my comedy but now I have a more intimate venue in the City to attend (The Comedy Bar). The Comedy Bar is located off the Magnificent Mile in downtown Chicago. You could easily access by public transportation or Uber or drive and find decent and affordable parking very close to The Comedy Bar (like $14-$15 parking that is a 5-3min walk to the venue on a Thursday night). The Comedy Bar is next to Gino's East. I'm going to keep it real the venue is high a top of Gino's so be prepared to climb 3 flights of steep stairs to get to the venue but it is definitely worth the climb. The doors open at 7PM and there wasn't any long lines or waiting to get inside and nicely seated. Upon entering you are greeted by the very nice staff and seated first come first served/seated. Be prepared if you come alone or in a couple to be seated with another party of people. The venue can seat up to 140 and they have a outdoor patio rooftop and full bar. If you get there when the doors open if you want to sit in the hot seats (the front seats/tables to possibly interact with the comedians) you may get to select a table up front by the stage. Once seated the servers will come and take your order for food from Gino's and beverages. They offer draft beers, beer in cans and bottles, a limited wine list, bottled water, shots, cocktails, and mocktails . They have wings, fries, breadsticks, calamari, dessert, and of course Gino's pizza! We tried the deep dish pizza (Gino's Supreme) with Italian sausage. The pizza was delicious. The menu recommends ordering the pizza before the show and I agree. We ordered our pizza maybe 10 minutes after arriving and received a medium deep dish almost halfway into the headliner's set. Once I taste the pizza I understood the wait because it was darn good! Definitely have some pizza if you can. A small deep dish (4 slices) is around $20 a medium (6 slices) was $42. Now they do add a gratuity fee to all orders no matter the size of your party. The announcer and 2 openers were very funny and entertaining. The headliner, the evening we attended, was Kevin Bozeman and the man is funny. I kept saying this dude is crazy as I laughed at his jokes. Kevin was like that serious faced joke telling comedian and he was funny and the jokes were relatable to life as a parent and person of color living in the suburbs. If you enjoy the comedy scene definitely visit The Comedy Bar (they have other locations in other cities too). read more
