Our mom has been there now for over 2 years now. Things were pretty good until the last few months. Key staff members have either left or been fired. Rates going up with no end in site. Had a meeting with them a few months ago and they promised to hold our room at current level without increase for one year. The following two months I was over billed again and had to fight for a credit. Finally received credit and got billed a couple days ago for December and over charged again! Looking to move my Mom to a new facility soon. They will over bill you every month if you're not watching the billings. read more

This is the third assisted living facility my mother has lived in over the last 10 years or so, and TC@DR is head and shoulders above the other two. Great attention to detail, high quality care and simply fantastic staff. My mother, who is hard to please, raves about her caregivers. I've also been in the facility frequently as I've gotten her moved in, and have had many interactions with the staff. They've been universally friendly, helpful and competent. Within a week every staff member we encountered warmly greeted my mother by her first name; they've clearly made an effort to get to know her and her needs. Truly feels like an extension of our family, which is exactly as it should be in a facility like this. The facilities are cleaned and well maintained, and the food is excellent. We visited several care facilities in our region (East and Central Contra Costa County), looking for the most suitable choice for our Loved One. We appreciated and were favorably impressed with each site and especially so with The Commons for its feeling of quality care conveyed by the staff members we met and the tour given as well as the match with our budget. Residents whom we met and spoke with appeared quite satisfied and happy here. I had originally sent inquires to many different places with my partner Graces name because she wanted to look into memory care facilities for her mother and has a hard time doing so with her work hours. The director from this place reached out and had been helpful. She scheduled a meeting for us to attend the master care meeting, also for the director giving us a tour and the goody bags at the end! This review is for the master care plan presentation we did today for my partners mother. We also did a tour of the facility and it was really clean, the staff seemed really friendly. We've been caring for her mother who had dementia. She has been showing signs for a couple of years my partber said. She finally was diagnosed with dementia and she tries to wander and we have had some difficulties with her and it has been harder for us to care for her. She wanders, gets agitated easily and it's hard to get her to do anything anymore. The memory care here looks really nice. They have shadow boxes in the front for your loved one to remember where their room is. I don't remember the directors name but she was really friendly as well. She told us about the 2nd floor and how they have some clients who are placed there if they are in the early stages of dementia. The one bed room she showed us both the smaller and larger ones are nice but my partners mother we believe would not do well alone in an apartment setting. In memory care they have a nice garden area for them to walk around and areas for them to sit etc. We really liked the facility and they said family can visit 24/7 which is nice as well. The director said she would most likely be placed in a roommate situation in memory care which is good so she has someone with her to keep her company. They provide meals and activities for them there too. So far this place seems really great! We are hoping the master care plan can help out and if we can not get her into this place then something close to Concord with a nice memory care family for her. My Aunt is a resident there. The service and care she had received is terrible. When we went to see her in Thursday her legs looked fine by Saturday her legs had an infection and we had to take her to the hospital where she was admitted. None of the staff or medication techs called us. They have continually messed up on her medication and her over all care. They have threatened to put her in memory care when we have a brought up concerns on their service 1/10. Do not recommend for any one loved ones. Here are some pictures of her legs. Our family researched a number of places, hoping to find the right fit for our 98 year old mom, who had been living on her own. As soon as we walked into The Commons at Dallas Ranch we were impressed! We were excited to see the dining options, activities, even medical visit transportation. The staff worked with the family to make our mom's transition to Dallas Ranch seamless. Although our mom's stay at Dallas Ranch was short (she passed away after a couple of months) we loved it there. When one walks into the facility, the overall impression you receive is that staff and residents like being there. It's a difficult decision to place a loved one. There are many factors that go into your choice. I can say that the nurse Diane Taylor, is a breath of fresh air. Her staff and residents benefit from her professionalism, compassion, and joy with working and caring for the resident. This surely filters out to her staff as well. My parents have lived at Dallas Commons for 5 years now. They are 90 and 96. My dad has dementia and it was such a relief for my mom after they moved here. The employees are wonderful. My mom always comments on it. Very helpful and caring. They are great with my dad which is a big help for my mom. (Delphine takes great care of him when he needs it. He always has a smile for everyone). They have made a lot of friends with the other residents as well. Mom enjoys the activities, especially bingo, Wii bowling, black jack. Music entertainment. Chef Claudia is a wonder with the meals. Mom will comment on the good food and special holiday banquets. And if I happen to stop by while my parents are having a meal, the servers are quick to offer me anything. The director Francine has also been very helpful when we have questions or comments. Very approachable. Another note, the apartments here are very nice. Nicer than most other facilities we checked out before they moved in 5 years ago. read more

The Commons has Nurse Diane Taylor who is excellent in her job and with the residents. She knows them all by name and whatever issues they may have. She is warm and always available for a hug if asked. Other assisted living facilities do not have this personal care that Diane gives to her residents and family members every day. We moved our mother into The Commons At Dallas Ranch approximately two months ago. Right away, we were pleased with the decision. During the first week, Isabelle, a med tech at The Commons, observed our mom in distress in the hallway. Isabelle acted quickly, was able to assist our mom and we were notified by telephone. When we arrived to visit mom, she was feeling better, and Isabelle took time to explain to us what had occurred. She kept an eye on mom throughout the evening and did extra check ins overnight on mom. Mom has had a few medical challenges in the past year, which is why we moved her into assisted living. We knew it was not safe for mom to be living alone (and mom agreed). Isabelle's knowledge, actions, calm demeanor, communication skills and compassion are all representative of what we were hoping for when we placed mom at The Commons. So far, the staff have exceeded our expectations. The med techs, caregivers (Joanna is another stand out!) and other support staff members have been professional, kind and helpful as mom (and we) have transitioned into her new surroundings. read more

Upon entering this assisted living facility, we were greeted warmly. The space is fairly clean and orderly. The individual rooms are spacious enough for one. Their common areas are nice. They have a large table with plenty of seating for dining or playing games. There is an outside courtyard with several vignettes for seating and pretty landscaping. My 83 year old mother has been living at The Commons for approximately two months. Not only is she extremely happy living there, but our entire family could not be more pleased with the care she is receiving. Prior to living at The Commons my mom had been living by herself for 22 years. When she became ill, she moved in with my husband and I, where she lived for the past year. After a prolonged illness, we decided she should look into living at The Commons. This assisted living residence could not be better. The entire staff is amazing from the administration to the daily caregivers. My mom has not only regained her independence, but now has a group of friends to socialize with which she has not had for many years. The staff is genuinely, caring and friendly. Meals are prepared for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. They are freshly made with several choices for each meal. The food is very, very good. Prior to moving to The Commons my mom would stay in bed until late in the morning, did not eat well, and got very little exercise. Now her routine is to get up fairly early, shower, take her medications (which are brought to her), and she ventures down to breakfast where her and and her friends have a table they meet at daily. She then goes outside and walks about one mile and returns to her room before meeting her friends again for lunch and then later for dinner. The Commons has many activities ranging from groups that play cards, to movie nights. If I were to rate this facility I would give it a 10 out of 10. Things could not be better. read more

My initial response to this facility was wanting to move in myself and share a room with our Mother who has ALZ. Over the course of three different management teams, I was glad I had not. This last takeover was the worst. While I absolutely know that ALZ patients taste bud's are not acute,nor discerning, to see a dinner that consisted of your basic wonder bread type, a slice of processed cheese food, gray canned peas, and a cup of jello just flat annoyed the hell out of me. Not once, but almost every time I was there for dinner, the food look horrible and unhealthy. If the rent had not kept going up, I might have made allowances. Mom's room used to be dusted...with this last management team? Not so much, but they had no problem raising the rates. Mom's clothes had her name sewn in each and every item, thanks to one of my sister's. MIA, including her diabetic socks, which are not inexpensive. The complaints can continue, but suffice to say, our family moved our Mother to a new, WONDERFUL, small facility and we feel that she is truly cared about there. Corporate profits seem to be the only thing cared about now at The Commoms. Added to the fact that the staff was younger and younger, which gave me no confidence in their education level of caregivers, it was just time to vacate. Save your money...find Mom and Dad a facility that TRULY cares about your parents....it is NOT The Commons.... read more

This review is for the locked Memory Care side for Memory Care (people that are diagnosed with Alzheimer's and Dementia). My Dad was here in the memory care side Assisted living facility. I've been there numerous times throughout the day, and the few people that they have working are very nice, but so overworked. The doctor orders the medications and the family picks up medications from the pharmacy that the doctor ordered. You then take medications to the med techs and they log them in and distribute them. I think the medication schedule could be a little more organized, It seems like they were always calling family and saying they needed a refill..sometimes after we just left there and we don't live locally in Antioch. I can't compare this facility with others because this is the only one we had my Dad in. He was there for about 7 months. My Dad passed away there and the staff was told by family, to call my Brother when ever they needed anything. Most of the time they did call my brother first, but the one time they didn't call my brother was when my Dad passed away. They called my 89 year old Mom at 3:00 am to let her know, instead of my brother or myself. Neighborhood isn't the safest either, as another yelp reviewer gave link to the beating of an elderly women in the parking lot of the memory care. I must say that after the attack they immediately hired a security guard for the parking lot....but it's a big lot with 2 driveways. Just saying. We spent significant time searching for the victim who was eventually located sleeping Positive notes that they do events throughout year. BBQ's for family/friends. They provide many activities for their residence and the staff has always been very friendly. It gives our family great relief to know our parents are in a safe clean environment. I walked in to Dallas Ranch on 12/20/17. My mom suffered a heart attack that morning and was living in independent living. I'm a registered nurse and I knew at her age, 88 yrs old she would need assisted living. From the wonderful receptionist at the front desk to Ashley RN. They took the time to give me a tour and showed me concern for moms condition. When I meet Tina Hoptry, sales manager I was immediately put at easy because she listened and truly cared about my moms health and needs. Alberto is the ED who is professional, curious and an excellent communicator. He always gets right back to me and makes every effort to accommodate my questions or Mother-In-Law's needs. It is clean, organized, spacious with a professional and loving staff. The rooms are light and airy, the food is healthy and nutritious. They also offer a menu that is available for residents to order from outside of the scheduled meals. They will even deliver meals to your room if needed. They offer Bingo, on-site shopping, movie nights and have a private room to reserve for private gatherings. If there is an activity that is not currently being offered that a resident would like to do or have available on site, they will make every effort to make it happen. There is also a salon so residents can have their hair and nails done right there. They offer all levels of assisted living as well as a separate and secure memory care wing. I feel so comfortable knowing my Mother-In-Law is safe and secure with thoughtful and caring individuals to help her anytime she needs it. We looked at many places before deciding on The Commons at Dallas Ranch. We are so glad a room opened up for her, because they rarely have openings. I highly recommend The Commons. read more

My mother lived at the Commons at Dallas Ranch for two years, a year each in the assisted living facility and the memory care facility. It was a wonderful experience. The building is beautiful, the food is appealing and the employees are the best. My mom had lived at Westmont in Brentwood, but we were not satisfied, so we moved her. What a difference! Alberto and the rest of his management staff do an amazing job. The Commons' biggest strength, though, is the caretaker and med-tech staff. I don't know how they do it; the work is hard and the hours can be long, but especially in the memory care unit, they treat the residents like family. I will never forget the compassion shown to my mom, me and our family during her final days, and will always remember the Commons with great affection. The commons at dallas ranch is a bunch of BS. The management does not know what they're doing. All they care about is money. And I have witnessed management fire good people. One girl in particular. However that is none of my business. If you want to bring your family somewhere amazing, take your parents, grandparents aunts and uncles to Westmont in brentwood. Do not waste your time with the commons. They are very neglectful to their residents. I've been told first hand of all the atrocious acts of neglect that has come with the commons. Garbage cans are disgusting, the residents are not taken care of properly. Residents aren't being showered regularly, and the residents in depends aren't being changed regularly. Sure they look like a good place but looks are deceiving. The place is run by horrific people. There's a med tech asian girl with blonde hair who is very rude. She cussed at employees and made us. Very uncomfortable. The place needs to be taken over by someone who cares about the elderly and not just money. Again, do not bring your family here. They will not get the care they need. This place also does no accommodate the elderly with proper equipment.take your family out of the commons ASAP read more

I would like to let potential residences know that Dallas Commons is highly recommended. My father-in-law was on the memory care side. The staff was attentive, friendly and many felt like our extended family. Residence are dressed each day and most are expected to eat in the dining room. We attended many events such as thanksgiving and Christmas meals. These were special events and although the memory care residences didn't really know where they were, the meal presentation, music and festivities were very well done. My mom and dad moved into The Commons as charter members (those who moved in during the first week of opening). Besides the wonderful care they were kept engaged in living by participating in all of the activities that are offered. Before her passing, my mom loved playing Bingo, making crafts, being part of the cooking club and doing chair exercises. My dad still enjoys working out in the exercise room, going on monthly outings to different eateries, WII Bowling, Happy Hour on Fridays and all of the entertainment provided on a weekly basis. I highly recommend The Commons. I brought my mother to The Commons 18 months ago. Mom was living at another Assisted Living care facility in Walnut Creek for seven years before coming to The Commons. My Mom and I have many years of experience with Assisted Living facilities. Mom is 87 years and suffered a stroke 8 1/2 years ago that paralyzed her on the right side. She needed special and respectful care. Mom gets that care here, and more. Mom now lives in a one bedroom apartment and she likes it. The care the staff provides has far exceeded my expectations. Her caregivers are attentive, kind and thoughtful. Alberto, the Executive Director, leads by example and sets the "tone" for all the staff to follow. Alberto is a caring, kind, responsive, gentle and sensitive leader. It is clear that care for the residents is the priority here. Recently, there was some interior remodeling completed and it has turned out very nice. There is a full menu for each meal with many choices. The food is well prepared and once a week there is "Pasta Day". So, there is a lot of garlic in the air on that day. Everyone likes garlic, right? And, don't be surprised if you see Alberto wearing an apron and a tall chefs hat serving up pasta with shrimp. I would encourage anyone reading this review to come by and visit. I have visited many senior living facilities in the Bay Area, while searching for the best placement for my mother-in-law. Our family chose the Commons and my mother-in-law was placedin the memory care side of the Commons. Every time I visit, it always smells nice. The place is very clean, and decorated in pretty, calming colors. The staff are friendly and helpful. When I have a question or concern and email Ana, who is in charge of the memory care side, she always gets back to me promptly with an answer. I really like the way the rooms are organized around a center court yard and garden. As you walk on the hallway around the courtyard, you can look through windows into the garden. My mother-in-law had a difficult time transitioning to memory care, but the staff was kind and patient. She has been there over a year, and now she really likes it. My son is an EMT who does medical transport. He has seen many memory care units in the course of his job. When he visited his grandmother, he told me that the Commons was really nice. I am very very disappointed with this place that we use to think was the best out there! After visiting several places for our parent we made the decision to put our parent here. Attentive, compassionate and really understood the elderly. Two years later...new manager! This man only cares about one thing.....raising points/fees...doesn't consider the patient at all!!!!! If you cannot afford the increase...you need to find another place or receive less care. What has occured is this man works below somebody at ...nobody will give us the contact name at headquarters...wonder why? Too many complaints?? I guess it is true that many of these facilities plan on increasing their costs which in affect ends up causing a hardship for these elderly patients and their families. It does NOT matter.....money driven facility!!! How very sad that all this just causes many patients undue stress during their supposedly "golden" years in a facility that once truly had compassion. read more

The best decision my Mother made was moving to The Commons!! She is in her own apartment, comes & goes as she pleases. The staff is friendly & kind, always keeping on eye on her. My mother was here for 3 years and we were very pleased with The Commons at Dallas Ranch. She was in her own apartment and then at the end in the memory unit where they monitored her all the time to assist going to bathroom, eating etc. We liked the facility, particularly the great room with the high ceiling, nice atmosphere. I am not sure what the details are of the experience of those other reviewers with negative reviews, but reading them caused me to want to say our experience was not at all negative, instead, it was quite positive. read more

There is a pleasant atmosphere here that comes from the residence themselves and some of the staff. The place is pretty and well kept. The staff overall is friendly. There are cheerful activities going on all of the time. My experience with my dad living here was overall positive. However to achieve this positive experience took a lot of work on our part. The place is not managed well. The food is drab, the services unreliable, the care minimal. The staff is overworked and held back by an over abundance of rules and regulations. There is a high turnover of employees. Just trying to get my Dad the medicine he needed which was prescribed by a doctor was almost a full time job on my part. He had a call button for emergencies but it sometimes took over an hour for someone to respond. If you are looking for a place to care for your loved one when you cannot, this not the place. read more

Awesome staff- Was there for a tour and was floored by the way we were greeted and treated while we were visiting. I was touched by the way the care providers were interacting with members and treated them like family. The rooms- apartments as they are called, truly are just that, an apartment. Little kitchenettes, large bathrooms and bedrooms. I've lived in apartments smaller than these. The common areas and dinning room are like a five star hotel/cruise ship. There are plenty of amenities, in addition, and beautiful grounds. Great place. read more
