I would like to recognize Jeff Rank who runs the Rock Steady Boxing Program at The Commons on Marice for the outstanding job that he does in running a program that is fun but challenging. It is also very effective. My personal experience is that I came to the gym one year ago. I was using a four wheel walker and my strength and balance were poor. One year later I am now walking independently...and I don't need a nap after each class! The person that I hold responsible for this improvement is Jeff. He comes to the program with a strong background. He is dedicated to each of his boxers and is constantly working to improve the program and gym. He also spends a tremendous amount of time researching Parkinsons and is a wonderful resource. I can't thank Jeff enough for the difference he has made in my life. read more

The community is very warm and welcoming. I am always greeted with a smile and treated with respect. They do such an excellent job keeping the building clean and looking beautiful. The nurses and caregivers take the time to get to know all of the residents and it feels like family. They offer independent senior living, assisted living and memory care along with respite stay options and wellness plans. I love that this allows people to add services to meet their needs without requiring them to make a big move throughout the building. The life enrichment department does such a great job providing quality of life. I truly love this place! read more

They do not do what they say they will do. They tell you that they will spend 15 minutes doing each "care" (like dressing your loved one or bathing them) but they do it as quickly as they possibly so they can get out of there. My loved one was left dirty or unchanged many times. And, on top of the poor care, my loved one's jewlery was stolen. read more

Assisted living. What does that mean, exactly? It's up for interpretation. For some it's more than assistance, more than a helping hand - in fact, for some, assisted living can be a deeply personal relationship bordering on kinship. For others, this "assistance" might be a friendly smile every morning, a reminder to take medications, and in the most worldly sense a community of caregivers and care receivers who recognize that the eldest among us are in fact our elders, scorned in modern society for their inability to be productive, while in truth these souls contributed blood, sweat and endless tears to the generation that followed. The Commons On Marice recognize this symbiosis, and celebrate each and every unique individual. This review is for my elder, a man who desperately wished for a place which could balance his failing physical capacity with an endless desire for autonomy. After several visits to various housing options, it was clear that the Commons offered what we sought: a true community, with communal activities, daily shuttles to local shops and entertainment options, and terrific in-house cuisine. This plethora costs a pretty penny, mind you, so be prepared. My elder served the state of Minnesota loyally for the better part of his life, and the state recognized his service, so he could afford it. Before boarding our elder, we looked at payment plans from several competing organizations and we were confident that, for the price, the Commons was fair. Not great, but definitely competitive. The Commons rests on grounds featuring lovely horticulture and natural architecture. The grounds are carefully cultivated and the estate offers plenty of room for an afternoon walk with a visitor (please make the effort, kin). The front lobby is staffed by especially receptive and friendly people who know my elder, and have cared enough to contact me when asked. My limited touring of the main facility detailed a large atrium where Sunday services occur, along with a great toddler/kids area, a little pub (used to be an ice cream parlor), billiards, a great gym/exercise room and small library. Rooms are substantial, considering: sitting/bed area, kitchenette, bathroom. Good enough for my elder, who has yet to actually turn on the burner of his stove. My impression is that McGruff the Crime Dog doesn't have any need to sniff the premises; this is a safe place, where residents trust in each other and in essence have a little utopia of everyday existence. It's in Eagan, after all, a small town suburbia, sort of battling the oncoming reality of urbania while the rural element slowly chokes away. Highly recommended, for the elders and all of us wishing for a little "assistance". read more

I have nothing but wonderful things to say about the Commons! The staff is friendly and takes time to get to know and help every single person that lives there. The building is consistently clean and the grounds are well maintained. The nurses and cna's take time and consideration into everyone they help. My Grandparents were moved here after an unexpected health turn. My Grandfather was living in their memory care ward on the fourth floor (he had Alzheimer's) and my grandmother was living there with assistance on the third floor. The Commons did everything they could to keep them comfortable and active. Over the last month my grandfather had taken a turn and was placed on hospice. Gratefully he was able to stay at The Commons until he passed. My grandmother is still living there and they have been over the top wonderful to our family during this time. They have gone out of their way to help and the staff could not be nicer! While my grandfather was on hospice at the Commons my mom and my aunt decided to stay over a few nights in his room with him and the staff went above and beyond from getting them breakfast to helping them get settled in for those hard nights. I could think of a better place for my Grandparents to have been there together and I feel relieved knowing that my Grandma is in such wonderful care. read more

Several things have gone downhill since my parents came into this facility a couple years ago. Mostly: To cut costs, they changed the food preparation and menu and the food is awful, and the proportions have been cut to child size at best. The van pick up to and from appointments is often not available despite making appointments in advance. The atmosphere is lovely however, and most of the staff are ok, but newer staff have demonstrated intolerance, impatience and meanness that is not acceptable. read more

After his grandma visited all the area assisted living facilities, she declared this was the best...and so it became home to my husbands grandmother. We visit at least weekly, if at all possible. The staff always seems very friendly and willing to help out when needed. When she first moved in she was still able to see, since them she has lost her vision due to macular degeneration. The staff really helps her when she needs it, sometimes she gets a little feisty because she wants to remain as independent as possible and they want to do everything they can to help her. The only complaint she has had of the place, is that the staff treats them as "children" and fuss a little to much, but I don't see that as a bad thing. As with any other assisted living facility, the digs aren't cheap, but I truly feel you get what you pay for. Our 8 year old if given the opportunity would come here every day to visit great-grandma and eat at the "5 star" dining facility...his rating of course! I would highly recommend the Commons to anyone. read more

My dad lived here for 2 years. High overturn of staff. The staff was rude and didn't know how to handle family affairs. I have left other reviews but never received any call backs when i left messages. In my opinion i would stay far away from this place. read more

After spending every penny of his life savings staying here for the last 6 years, my elderly soon to be 95 year old grandfather has been evicted and have been given notice that they will stop giving him care in five days. Although the state pays for his residence, Commons is no longer able to care for him due to changes they have chosen to make in their administration. In recent months the care has been lacking to say the least. He has been left unshaven and smelly lately as they seem understaffed. One can hope. This is deeply troubling to my family. In addition to the ridiculous timeline for ending his care the administration has been completely unhelpful in providing resources to help my family move him. This is no ways to treat an elder, my grandfather, a kind/gentle person, and a veteran. read more
