It's sad that this place is being sold. I went here for the first time in October 2025 for a work event and everyone enjoyed themselves. Gorgeous building! It looks so stately and formal upon arrival. We came here for an Easter Brunch that was hosted in the ballroom. It was a buffet style serving: Scrambled Eggs Bananas Foster French Toast Bacon & Sausage Breakfast Potatoes Breakfast Pastries and Muffins Yogurt Parfaits Fresh Fruit & Berries Mixed Green Salad served with Balsamic or Ranch Seared Atlantic Salmon with Lemon Butter Sauce Chicken Piccata Eggplant Parmesan Award Winning Mac n' Cheese Chef's Choice Vegetable Carving Station - Ham Assorted Rolls Desserts Admittedly I ate mostly everything. Amazing location for our son's wedding. Venue was gorgeous, staff were awesome and the food was amazing.

I was here to attend a corporate event. The place has a nice small town feel to it. My only suggestion would be to expand the parking, as often the lot across is full and one has to walk a few blocks (3~4?) away to park the car, but you have to feed the meter during breaks. Restrooms were all the way at the other end of the place from where the meeting was taking place, so a minor inconvenience, but on the other hand got to explore the entire ground floor that way :) read more

In July 2021 held a "rehearsal reception" for our son's wedding. 76 people and not once did my wife or I asked for assistance related to anything. The staff anticipated all needs and we just mingled and enjoyed the night. The easy to plan and implement event we have ever experienced. 2 weddings, 3 Bar Mitvah's gave us background in challenges of large family/friend events. These folks were the best! read more

Imagine spending $17,000 to the venue to have a classy wedding and their staff hands your guests beer cans all night instead of pouring them in glasses. A guest stepped away for half of dinner and never received their $75 meal. The bride didn't get offered any drinks/water the last 2.5 hours the bar was open while there was still wait staff. Our provided planner didn't follow layout requests that were made in person and instead placed items at the ceremony and at the reception where she thought was best. Then why ask what we prefer? Venue tried to force their different timeline on our DJ even though we gave both parties the right itinerary. Also, don't count on their planner to straighten your veil before you go down the aisle even though they said they'd be the one to do so. read more

Good place to come for classes. Took a cooking class here with Chef Pam and it was educational, but we didn't actually get to cook, we just watched her cook. Would like to come back for another class that was more hands on, but I'd recommend to try again. read more

Attended a wedding here...ABSOLUTELY beautiful. Very classy, ample space for atleast 200...great setup. All around, just wonderful. The location is supberb, nestled right in downtown Birmingham. We have taken a number of classes offered by The Community House. All were by knowledgeable teachers that are experts in their area. One was about self publishing your book that was taught by a former Detroit Free Press Editor and currently a professor at Michigan State University. Same instructor also taught another class there that we took about starting your blog or website that was just what we both needed to get going. Every class and event we have attended was well organized and presented. The only reason for not giving 5 stars for me was that parking can be difficult unless you want to walk a bit. The metered lot directly across the street has been full most of the times we have been there. And when there is a spot, you need to feed the meter and it only allows up to two hours, so for some classes would need to go out and feed it again. read more

Attended a wedding being hosted here. It really was reminiscent of other banquet halls and perhaps the details were lost on me. The setup was quite standard and the decor quite normal for all weddings, considered. The open bar left a lot to be desired since it wasn't premium/top shelf liquor. That's okay, it wasn't my wedding and I didn't have to pay for my drinks...however, with that said, the drinks left a lot to be desired. The Chardonnay, Blue Moon beer, and Scotch were quite disappointing, so I stuck to ginger ale, which too seemed to lack some ummph in the fizzle department. I must compliment the catering staff as having a superb level of professionalism and overall warm demeanor. I just had my wedding at The Community House in January of 2020, and I can't say enough great things. Tim was absolutely outstanding and has amazing customer service skills. Any hiccup, he immediately had a solution. The planning seems endless, but they made it so easy for us. Any question and email were answered within hours and he was so helpful and tasteful with his opinions. Every encounter was kind from everyone we came into contact with. On the day of the wedding, our valet was a little late and Tim immediately told us that he had upgraded our bar to make up for it. This is the type of customer service every business needs. I am so grateful! I can also say that all of our guests couldn't stop talking about how amazing the food was!! read more

I have given the Community House a week to respond to my email from a cooking class I took last week. I have never written a Yelp review, but I feel strongly that the Birmingham Community House misrepresents its classes and mission statement of cultivating community. I now have three significant complaints that would stop me from returning. First, the kitchen was so ill-equipped we were unable to make all the dishes planned. In addition to not having basics such as a mixing bowl, the stovetop didn't heat up. Fortunately, the resourceful instructor brought a portable cooktop. The second issue was when we told the receptionist about the lack of supplies, her response was, "Well, you stayed for the whole class." No indication of any element of customer service . The third problem is that I sent an email to three staff members, the president and CEO, the director of programs and enrichment, and the hospitality and logistics manager the day after the class (on a Sunday) detailing the above issues. Not one of them got back to me until Friday, when a different director of programs and enrichment emailed to offer a make up class. I responded that I wouldn't attend a class until the kitchen situation and the front desk situations are addressed. read more

Absolutely LOVED this venue for my son's wedding reception. Beautifully decorated - reminds me of a southern mansion with it's beautiful woodwork and beamed ceiling and crystal chandeliers. Tim is so awesome to work with - always available or promptly responds. He is also extremely helpful with the food and décor choices. Speaking of which, the food was delicious. Another benefit was having the "whole house" with the cocktail reception outside under the tent and dinner in the ballroom. There was also a beautiful patio area outside the ballroom where we were able to enjoy cigars. read more

My daughters wedding was held here in January. Everything was flawless. The staff was amazing as was the food. Would recommend.

While they produce a catalog full of classes with something for everyone (literally... music for kids, ballet for adults, meditation, senior fall prevention, hula hooping, etc.), I come for their cooking classes. I think they are the best value in the area at around 30 bucks a pop. They are demonstration style, so the instructor is cooking at the front, interacting with students, like Food Network Live with yummy samples! I actually prefer the demonstration style to hands-on classes because I take away a lot more. My attention is focused on all the instructor's hints and tips (and they have a lot!). The kitchen classroom was a bit out of date, but they recently redid it. read more

The Community House holds a special place in my family's heart. I got married there nearly 10 years ago and the event was perfect. The building is beautiful for a party. Over the last 5 years my family has become regular visitors with my two children attending the ECC. We love it there. The staff is caring and firm. My son has been there for 5 years and will be moving on soon. My daughter has been there 2 years and still has 3 to go. My children have fun while at the ECC and always come home learning something new. It is great reassurance to know my children our safe, having fun, and learning when I am not with them. Over the years we have also enjoyed such programs as Kindermusik at TCH. Also, my kids enjoy going to the children's productions there. We just saw Little Mermaid Jr. a few weeks ago. The whole family enjoyed the show. read more

We had our wedding at The Community House on 8/27/16 and were thrilled! Sarah was amazing to work with and made sure everything was taken care of. We were supposed to have the cocktail hour outside but due to rain we had to move it inside. Everything went off without a hitch. The main ballroom was gorgeous - it looks really nice with the fresh coat of paint and new chandeliers. We got gorgeous pictures in the courtyard off the main dining room after the sun went down (they have lights on the trees and we put candles all around). We got a lot of compliments on how good the food was (we served the salmon, chicken Florentine and ravioli) and how friendly the wait staff was. We had 130 guests and it felt perfectly cozy. Would probably be good for up to 150-160 guests but then would get tight. Loved everything about our day and lots of thanks to Sarah and the staff for making it great! read more
