The Cookery is a great date night / group activity spot if you're looking for something fun, interactive, and just different enough to make you feel like you have plans. I came for the sushi-making class, and overall, it was a really good time. The setup was smooth, the atmosphere was lively, and the whole experience felt more like a social night out with a little culinary cosplay which honestly, has its place. They also offered wine and sake pairings, and you can BYOB, which definitely helps keep the vibe festive. That said... if you're hoping to leave with the confidence to open your own omakase counter in a strip mall, this is not that. A lot of the components were pre-made or prepped ahead of time, and there wasn't a ton of actual teaching around technique, ingredients, or the food itself. So while you do "make sushi," it's less MasterClass and more cute, hands-on dinner activity. But honestly? That's not necessarily a bad thing. Not every class needs to end with a knife skills certification and a spiritual relationship with sushi rice. Bottom line: Come here if you want a fun, low-pressure experience for a date night, girls' night, or team outing. Everything is split up amongst the groups so don't be scared thinking you'll be cooking the whole time. We selected the Cocktail Party event which consisted of appetizers and drinks. I wish I would've taken more photos but that would've required constant washing of the hands! Menu consisted of Sweet and spicy caramelized nuts( Amazing) Warm Crab dip Crostini( Spectacular, but I think we preferred it cold) Crispy Prosciutto Green Goddess Deviled eggs( probably our favorite appetizer..and she doesn't even like deviled eggs) Ahi Poke/Avocado Wontons( we might actually try the crab mix in the wontons) Chili Lime shrimp and Mango salsa lettuce boats( I thought it was excellent but she felt it was too spicy) Candied Orange infused Dark chocolate bark( awesome and the sea salt on top made it the perfect dessert). The drinks had a little something for everyone. I'm a whiskey on the rock kinda guy so the drinks were a little on the sweet side for me, but to each their own. Our boss surprised us with a team-building exercise and it exceeded all expectations! The event was engaging, well-organized, and an excellent way to connect as a team outside of the workplace. Stephanie at the Dallas location was OUTSTANDING! She was professional, knowledgeable, and highly engaging, creating an environment that made the cooking experience both enjoyable and educational. As I love cooking and taking cooking classes, I found this spot relatively close to me to take a class. The theme was - Caribbean - and I had an enjoyable time! The class was very intimate, this time (about five of us), although it can be up to 14 people. Our instructors Katie and Shelia were amazing! Katie was very detailed in presenting the recipes and making sure everything was to our liking. We made Puerto Rican Shrimp and Rice soup, Jamaican Jerk Pork Tenderloin, Caribbean hot sauce, Island Rice & Peas, Tropical Slaw, Fried Plantain, and Toasted Coconut Ice Cream. For drinks, we were presented with water, tea, wine, beer, and Run Punch! The Rum Punch we made ourselves and it was on point! Cute place. Went there for our anniversary. The hosts are great, knowledgeable and friendly. Pasta was the theme for the day. Homemade tortellini was course 1 stuffed with walnut arugula pesto sauce. Since I was the chef I will rate the course 5* The second course was fettuccine alfredo and bow tie pasta w/ lamb ragu. Sides of garlic bread and arugula salad finished off the course. It was all very good. If you sign up for the pasta meal be ready for your nap or marathon the next day. The salad was a tad bit lemon forward. Other than that real good. Cannolis for dessert. Easily one of the best date nights I've had in years. Our class host was STEPH! If you wonder why her names is in all caps, it's because she's she was amazing! Such a class act and I love her laugh. We went the weekend prior to Mardi Gras so the menu was Cajun! Jambalaya, Cajun crawfish bread, hurricane drinks and homemade ice cream with bananas foster! Great great menu. I enjoyed the shape of the counter bar that allowed all the people in attendance to face Steph while she was hosting. I loved that there was a dining table for us all to gather and I loved the flow of doing the appetizer, main course, drinks and dessert. Steph has a partner helping with this so basically, while you cook, the dining table is being prepared and when you are eating, the cooking space is being prepared and so on and so forth. Great work flow! I have been to one other cooking class and I felt a little rushed and overwhelmed as we pretty much cooked it all at once and never actually sat down to eat. It was more of a standing bar table type of deal. So this was a great change! Location was so cute. Close to town but not quite there. The area is adorable and the storefront itself was just a classic take on farmhouse. I really enjoyed this experience and I will absolutely go could. Be looking to spend about $180-250 on date night. This includes all the food and drinks which you would easily spend that if not more at a restaurant for all that we got minus the experience. For the clean freaks, there's a wash basin and Steph made sure we all wore aprons and removed them for restroom breaks and washed after every interaction as the food is shared! I ha e been wanting to take a cooking class for years!! But have never gotten around to it. My friend wanted to go to a cooking class for her birthday so upon researching there were a couple of options but we opted for this company. The staff here is amazing, upon arrival we were greeted with smiling faces, checked in and given a glass of wine as we waited. Once everyone was there we got right into the kitchen. Everything was very organized and we were able to try our hand at pretty much everything. What I liked was that we would make a course and then sit down at this gorgeous table and eat family style while the staff prepared the items for the next entree. Everything was delicious and the others in attendance were so nice and friendly which made for a really great time. The owner is very funny and very knowledgeable and gave us really great tips. Went here last month for an office Christmas party. Lots of fun and learned some techniques.

I bought this class as a gift for my boyfriend. We were extremely disappointed. Maybe we shouldn't have picked sushi, but something about eating the rice that the people next to us had their hands all over just didn't sit right with me. The instructor let someone add wasabi to the meat that everyone in the class was going to be using and then made it unbearably spicy, (I have a high spice tolerance) which ruined some of the limited rolls we made. Overall, we left thinking that we wouldn't be eating sushi for a long time after this class. We also didn't enjoy that we didn't get to make everything ourselves, everyone had a different job and we were limited to only doing one thing. They were also a little stingy with the beer and sake. Such a fun way to get out of the house and connect on a date night with your partner, friends, family, whomever. Our group was that diverse and it was very fun. We choose the Italian menu, Bring your own wine if you want to enjoy the good stuff (if you care about that). It wasn't too hands on - like "you pour this into this" and "you stir the pasta water" and "you sauté the broccolini after it's already been blanched" etc. so if you want more hands on options, there are other formats in DFW. What I loved about this was the the instructor get like they were including everyone and you get like a true team. I loved eating in increments rather than everything at the end like other formats. For the price I wouldn't go again, but it was nice to get out in this way. read more

I found this place as Christmas gift for my boyfriend. We had talked about a sushi making class forever and this is what I found in my research. And I'm glad I did! Kelly was a fantastic hostess and instructor. She was patient and inclusive of all and funny. Not to mention she knows her stuff! The set up is a very neat. They have a huge table that you eat your apps at with everyone in the class so you get to know the other participants. It's very hands on and spacious! Not to mention, they include alcohol in the cost and they do not skimp on it at all. The amount of food they provided was incredible. We did the sushi arogato class which consisted of 4 appetizers: miso soup, salmon sashimi with jalapeno and ponzu, shishito peppers, and stuffed mari pockets (I had never heard of the mari but trust me-delish!!). For main course we made our own spicy tuna 2 ways. Then created a maki roll, inside out roll, and hand roll. You got to put in your fish (salmon, tuna, eel) and lots of toppings (avocado, bell peppers, cucumber, mango, etc.) And then desert was a yummy matcha ice cream! I am gluten-free and this class was very gluten free friendly! I asked Kelly before we left about her other classes and she said the only one that there is no way to avoid the gluten is the pasta class (which is a bummer bc that sounds like an incredible class!) I've been to cooking classes before and nothing has compared to The Cookery's experience. We already started to look up future classes to go back as soon as possible. read more

Pretty awful, expensive waste of time and money to learn nothing, do nothing, put up with attitude and disrespect from the instructor and not get a lot of food. Completely worthless and not worth your time or money. Be clear about something - this is not a cooking class. This is essentially a group dinner with a cooking demonstration. Want to learn knife skills? Don't go here because you won't be allowed to touch a knife. Want to learn how to season with salt? Not here because you can't touch the salt - it's all done for you. All the prep is done when you get there, all the cooking except for a few basic steps are done by the instructor. The few tasks the class is allowed to do are spread out amongst 14 people so you don't end up participating much at all. The instructor is a culinary school student who doesn't really know anything and she has a super nasty attitude and is vindictive when you push back and don't like her attitude. $125 for an extremely basic meal that has about $13 in food costs. It's all Trader Joe's food and wine. Seriously. Go to TJs and shop for yourself - there is nothing here that is hard. I wouldn't go back here if you paid ME, much less pay them. read more

Hubby took me here for our date night! I loved how the class was small, about 12 people (6 couples). They offer a variety of classes, and we attended one that did bite size foods & drinks! We all gathered around the granite isle and there were different things in front of every couple (some had pots, some had cheese, chocolate, garnish etc.). We got assigned to make certain dishes based on our station. Kelly was able to explain what everyone was making and we all got to work. I stood over where garnish was and I basically stemmed off herbs but I volunteered to help others chop up chocolate and mix poke. We made the following tonight: *sweet and spicy caramelized nuts *warm crab dip crostini *Green goddess devil eggs w crispy prosciutto *parm baked cheese straws *Yellow tail poke on wontons *chili lime shrimp and mango salsa endives *candied orange dark chocolate bark Once we prepped and cooked the food, we all gathered around a huge table where we started on making varies drinks like mojitos, martinis, gin fizz's, and old fashions! Once drinks were done we ate them together with our food we just made. We did about 2 rounds of cooking and cocktail making! The cost was $95/pp and with the caliber of food and alcohol, it was worth every penny! Overall, it was like having thanksgiving with strangers and it was an awesome experience! The teacher was engaging and the energy was great! I consider myself moderately "seasoned" cook but I learned a few things! These girls know their craft! The food was absolutely delicious and the wine pairings were very nice. We had a fun group that was interactive and diverse. I would highly recommend going to The Cookery for date nights, celebrations, or just a fun night out. Our Taste of Tuscany meal was delicious and we will definitely (attempt to) recreate it! Ingredients used can be found at almost any grocery store or specialty store. The entire experience was very clean and well organized. Counters were sanitized often and I was encouraged to wash my hands multiple times throughout the evening and avoid touching cell phones/face/etc. CAUTION: My partner and I are not high risk for COVID. But occasionally we are around people who are high risk. Knowing that people have different levels of sensitivity to the pandemic, we wear masks to be safe and keep our distance. Masks were NOT required during our class. Social distancing was NOT enforced. We ate in close proximity to others and shared all serving utensils. Can't say enough good things about this place! I wanted to throw a surprise party for my friend's birthday, and Kelly was MORE than accommodating -- not only did she offer to help customize a menu just for our dinner group, but she even posted the event online as if it were a "normal" class that was simply soldout so that my friend wouldn't see a private event and get suspicious. During the event, Fiona was our instructor and had tons of great tips and tricks for us -- not to mention, her incredible Green Goddess dip! At first, I wasn't sure how much we'd be cooking since the large group of us were spread out across the giant kitchen island, but The Cookery had it figured out perfectly. They had various components and stations spaced along the counter in front of people, encouraging everyone to get involved with as much (or as little) as they wanted to do, all while sipping wine and having a good time. I was also impressed by how perfectly they timed everything so that we got to do a little cooking and learning, but then sit down at the table to enjoy each course. It gave us a chance to relax and talk with each other and fully enjoy our meal before gathering back around the island for our next course. It was all so fluid and engaging, and our group had such a great time. Not to mention, everything was DELICIOUS!! The braised short ribs with creamy herbed polenta and gremolata were something I would never have attempted otherwise, but it feels right in my comfort zone now!
