Look nothing like either reference photo I showed. I never once mentioned blending my bangs into my hair, who would it looks awful then to take it all around back looks like a bowl cut mixed with a mullet. There are so many uneven parts and I had hairs in n the back that we're still way longer than the rest, I had my husband help me trim them up to the rest. I'm so mad this isn't what I wanted I was told I would get what I asked for. This isn't it. I'm very upset I had about 8 inches removed in not mad at the length but the horrid cut. Nothing beats incredible customer service! Mike was the perfect combination of personal and professional. It is obvious he takes great pride in his work. From the phone conversation of setting up the appointment, to the service day of, it was absolutely ideal. His coworker Arthur is funny and you can tell they both have great relationships with their customers. My hair was "out of control" and needed to be fixed. I found The Corner Barbershop from a search and it was convenient to my hotel. To me, this was the Cheers of barbershops; everyone knew everyone. The place has literally been there forever as you will see when you go inside. It's a cross of all things Barber from old fixtures, original barber chairs, a barber pole and what appear to be hanging fixtures from the 70's. I appreciate the barber chairs. I got a good haircut AND a hot towel along with good conversation with Arthur and Mike. Pricing is very reasonable. I didn't have an appointment but it's a good idea to call first. read more

I've been going here for over 20 years, before Arthur purchased the shop from Robert. If you are looking for a fade or flattop, the two guys to ask for are Robert or Mike. I've gotten to know both men (Robert particularly for two decades) and they know their stuff. The trick is telling them exactly what you want and be specific. They aren't mind readers. Yes, there can sometimes be a wait but if you walk in off the street on a Saturday afternoon, don't expect fast service. The guys take their time with clients and yes, they make salty small talk as part of the process. It's not a hair salon but instead, an old school barbershop. If you are in a hurry, visit this place during the weekday, like between 1-4. They cut hair on Sunday's too but the speed in which you'll get serviced is hit or miss. Finally, I'll just say if you call them in advanced, some of the guys take appointments (Mike does for sure). We're lucky to have a real barbershop in the area. There aren't many left! read more

The haircut was decent!! Definitely better than Gabby's!! I definitely had a 1st time barber shop experience here! The barber cut my hair using no water whatsoever! I have curly hair and usually they spray my hair every time I have ever got a haircut! The cut came out decent too! It didn't wow me but it was better than Gabby's and Super Cuts down the street. Visited over the weekend; very shabby work with a standard low fade, inconsistent lines and the fade was jagged. Beard trim was decent but the razor work was very rough, got cut multiple times and irritated my skin. Would not recommend at all. read more

I HAVE NO HAIR NOW. I asked for a simple fade and told the guy that I only wanted a little off the top. He immediately took a buzzer to the middle of my head and I asked him why he would do that. He told me "I don't know how to cut with scissors." This is the worst haircut I have ever gotten. I have been in here twice and I don't know what happened to the experienced barbers. read more

I used to hate getting my haircut. I was never completely happy with my cut afterwards, whether I went to a salon, a barber, or a $6 cut place. So, I'd wait 3, 4, and sometimes even 6 months between haircuts. And I never became a loyal customer anywhere. Then one day I stumbled in here and I got the best haircut of my life from Mike! I have been coming in regularly every month for nearly 3 years now. I will never go anywhere else. Make no mistake, this is an old school barber shop - the conversation can be a little salty, the service can be a bit brusque, and the wait on a weekend can be long. But I feel completely at home & am welcomed like an old friend. I've been coming long enough that I can joke around, share stories, rib, and get ribbed. As I do at most barbershops, I didn't let on that I was gay at first, as barbershops are not usually the most friendly places for gay's. Eventually, I realized a good number of the clientele were gay, which isn't surprising so close to Boystown. Although the whole staff is straight, they know lots of their customers are gay and they are quite comfortable with that - treating everyone with equal respect. I have been going here since over an year now, soon after I moved to Lakeview, and I have no complaints whatsoever. It is a barber shop, plain and simple, no frills, no fancy crap, no bs. It's what a barber shop is supposed to be. You go there, ask for what you want, they do that, you pay, and that's it. They don't try to sell you things when you're sitting there, they don't play loud music which you've never heard of, and they listen to what you have to say. Even the conversation is good. Walked into this place with 4 people waiting ahead of me in line. I drain my phone for 40 minutes waiting patiently. When my time comes I stand up and the Barber says he has someone coming in right now. Frustrated I sit down. A woman walks in with her kids and they say they are booked for an hour and a half and they say they don't take appointments. I say what does that mean for me and they say they can take me in an hour and a half because they have appointments until then and the person coming in is a regular. I guess they don't care about new customers. The chair is sitting empty mind you. We go back and forth about why wouldn't they say anything when I walked in 40 minutes ago. They say sorry with no regard and flip through a magazine while the chair awaits more important people. They only get 1 star because I cannot give them 0. We stopped in here to get my brother's hair buzzed down. We walked in and two stylists were cutting hair. Neither one of them said hello, and absolutely no acknowledgment followed. So we sat there for 10 minutes thinking one of them would eventually say something to us: offer a greeting, ask how they could help us, or tell us how long the wait would be. Still nothing , even when we caught one of them looking at us. Then we slowly got up and started to leave, and still no acknowledgment . Shockingly poor behavior for a business. I sat down in this neighborhood barbershop for the first time last month and was very impressed with how I left. I just left yesterday even more so. The barber, Juan (both times) really took care of me. He had ideas I wasn't aware of and made my otherwise unkempt beard look sleek and stylish. You get what you ask for, so your ability to communicate what you want will result in a great haircut. I've been going here for 4 years and am NEVER disappointed. I guess they don't go out of their way to make you feel welcome or give you an estimated wait time... but it's not that kind of place. You sit down... wait your turn... and get an amazing haircut. I asked for a medium fade and keep it long on top, mind you I've had the same exact cut for like 5 years plus I've had weekly fades for another 4 four years (military). So when I say I know you're cutting high and you tell me "I know what you want, I've been cutting hair for longer than you've been alive." Then proceed to basically give me a high fade and then trim my entire top losing the majority of my length. He pointed me in the direction of another barber for my beard and this guy took down a 3-month fresh growth and made into some hipster billy goat in 5 minutes. I will never go back to this barbershop again, kind experience as I didn't complain but Overall poor quality and customer service. The other high-rated shops nearby had outrageous waiting times, so we decided to give this one a try. The staff was extremely friendly and prompt, the environment of the barber shop had a very welcoming small-town vintage feel. I did not get the name of the gal who did his hair, but she absolutely nailed it. If you're looking for quality haircut, this is not your place. I'd assume that whenever anyone gets a haircut, they expect a barber to (1) follow a customers instructions (if specified) and (2) take the time to do a decent job. Neither of these two things were accomplished during my experience here. The top of my hair was trimmed with carelessness, paying no attention to if the hair was being cut remotely even. Additionally, I was surprised to find out that a "taper" meant that I would get the sides and back of my hair hacked off with scissors instead of a clean, short look. If I wanted my hair (poorly) textured, maybe I would've been less disappointed. Next time I want my hair to look like someone mindlessly started hacking away with scissors, I'll ask my 8 year-old brother to do it for free. read more

One of the worst experiences I've ever had at a barbershop. When you first walk in, you will notice everything is broken down. Half the chairs there are nonfunctional and eroded with rust. The hot towels are simply ran under a faucet without being washed and continuously thrown in the sink without a rinse. The blades are reused over and over again and rinsed in solution. Don't even get me started on the wait. They will sit there and take regular customers over you. I was pushed back by 4 customers. Don't bother considering this place. Gabby's down the street is way more professional and cheaper for that matter. read more
