If you're looking for a nice fade, this is not your place. Their definition of a fade is to give you a buzz cut as if you were going to boot camp the next day. Just as fast too...I wasn't on that chair more than 10 minutes. I wouldn't have minded so much except the price was $17. When you include the almost "mandatory" $3 tip, now you're looking at $20 for a 10 minute buzz cut. No way. Worth $12...$15 max. read more

Took me a long time to find the right barber when I first moved to Chicago. After getting my hair cut by Juan I don't let anyone else touch my hair. He has more than 30yrs hair cutting experience and gives me a perfect cut every time. He checks in on me when he knows I'm getting close to needing a trim and fits me in his schedule. I can't speak more highly of his attention to detail and effort to make the customer happy with the service. The corner shop is clean and the staff is always friendly. Juan has been cutting my hair for the past 13 years and always gives exactly what I ask for. (Which is saying a lot as he's seen me go through many styles and phases) he's got a lot of experience and always makes sure you leave with a clean cut no matter the style you want. Does NOT cut BLACK hair!! I was shocked to walk into the shop, and not before I even take a seat, the bald barber asked me, "What are you looking to get done buddy?" I said, "a simple fade and line up". "Yeah, I am not familiar with the type of cut you want, sorry." I know Chicago is a segregated city, but a "fade" is the basic cut for a lot of Black men. Finally found a good barber shop in Chicago. For $17 you get a solid cute and straight razor neck shave. Simple, old school, cash only, the way it's supposed to be. I've spent way more on haircuts that were half as good. I have medium length, thick blonde hair, and I asked them to cut it short and clean it up for a job interview later in the week. I basically gave them free reign and they did a great job, exactly what I was looking for. Conversation is always solid as well. read more

Good, consistent haircut at a reasonable price ($17). I love the old school barber shop look inside (I think they have been around 50 plus years). Only issue I have is the long wait times after work. Maaaaan. Asked for a simple brush fade and came out looking like a fool. I said take a little bit off the top and apparently that meant more than half of the length. Not recommend especially with Anthony, asked for 0 fade and 1/4 in off the sides. Turned into 0 all the way up and pretty much a buzz cut on top. Really dull straight razor too, thought my skin was gonna break. Honestly as a first time customer I expected it to be at least better than great clips, but it was far worse. Hope the owner sees this and gives a refund, that was the worst haircut ever. read more

I went in on a Saturday evening looking to get a straight razor shave, as it was advertised all over the business. I waited behind a few other gents to get their hair cut until it was my turn. Finally, I stepped into the chair, exchanged a few kind words with the barber about us both having the same hair style(baldness). He asked what number razor I wanted, and as I requested the shave he explained how he didn't have the time nor the supplies ready to perform the shave. I waited over an hour for him to say that he couldn't help me. Their most expensive service was unavailable. Great way to run your business! I usually love the small businesses that have been around for years, but this was a clear case of laziness and I will choose to go elsewhere from now on. All chairs were full but the staff said they would be right with me. After a 10 min wait sat down and was treated to a great shave and trim of my neckline. Great conversation and atmosphere. The only place in Chicago I go to get my air cut. Everyone is super friendly and they cut no corners at all while giving you your cut. The prices are super fair, with their cuts priced at $17! They always take their time and ask you what you want, not finishing until you feel completely satisfied! There is also a very home-y type feel to the place, everyone greets you when you walk in, talk to you if you feel like talking....or on a bad day, they let you go without pestering. best haircut i've ever had. they knew how to tame the asian hair and cut it at the right length where the sides were short enough but the top was long enough for a traditional parted/business haircut. they finished off with a straight razor neck shave with hot foam. very comfortable and great service too. i think it was $17 for cut and neck shave- tip not included. oh they only offered cash only, but it was still worth it! read more

Came here the other day because the line at the place I usually go to (Gabby's Barber Shop) was really long and was actually out the door. The place wasn't busy when I got there and was able to get my haircut right away. The haircut I get is pretty simple and the guy did a good job. For $17 I think its a pretty good deal, but I still prefers Gabby's over here if the wait at Gabby's isn't too long. read more

You go in, grab a Golf Digest or Playboy off the coffee table, sit quietly until your turn, and then get the best damn haircut of your life. If you want to have a conversation, go to a chat room. Go old school with this barber shop and you won't be disappointed. Always pleasant and professional, Ivan in particular really set me up with an amazing haircut. The place has been there longer than most (over 100 yrs?) and I can't say enough about the ambience and the experience Ivan delivered on at a very affordable rate.
