We visit the Outer Banks pretty much every year and when we shop, we head over to the Cotton Gin. They have so much variety in this place that you can go in thinking you don't need anything and walk out with a huge bag of gifts, decor and such ranging from apparel, jewelry and candles to art work. For starters, I like that The Cotton Gin in Corolla, located in the Timbuck II shopping center, is reminiscent of the flagship store in Jarvisburg. There is definitely something unique and inviting about the big red barn-like building. Back in the day The Cotton Gin had a heavy emphasis on cotton linens but now it is more of a gift store. While most of the store probably appeals to women, I am able to keep my husband busy while I shop. The Cotton Gin sells men's clothing, kitchen supplies, candy and other things that occupies his time while I leisurely stroll the multi-level store. For me, I enjoy taking my time perusing all of the goodies at The Cotton Gin like postcards, art prints, scented soaps, books, souvenirs, home décor, jewelry, Christmas ornaments and such. I came here so often and dropped so much coin, it became a little embarrassing. In my defense, it's just that they have absolutely everything - for every family member, for every room in the house, for every holiday, for every gift recipient... There are three floors, a porch with excellent sales items, a wine tasting room and a garden room. Whoever curates the selection here does such a fine job it's rather pointless shopping anywhere else and I found I could just get it all here. I could still go back and buy more. Wow, this store has everything you could ever want and everything else too. It has home goods meaning decor, candles, kitchen stuff, christmas stuff, clothing, garden items, food items, wine, etc. etc. etc. I can't begin to name it all but I know I tried to take pictures of most of it. They had some Joanna Gaines candles and reed diffusers inside, they had wall art, horse art, plants, beach wear, sandals, Pandora jewelry, garden decorative items and a wine cellar and tasting spot downstairs. It even has a Christmas area upstairs with trees and ornaments and kitchen items too. It's worth a stop if you're in the area and this particular location is inside a cute little strip mall area with shops, ice cream stores, mini golf, and some restaurants. read more

6/26/20 This time around, masks are worn by customers, but the staff members are not wearing masks. Hand sanitizer is available at one counter that I can see. There is a sign asking large family members to keep their parties outside while one or two family members shop. There is still a lot of stuff to buy here. Dome of the... a lot of the merchandise has changed since I was here last. There is another Cotton around Duck, but I have never set foot inside that one yet. Cotton Gin sells wine at www.vinoshipper.com. States will be listed in a picture. There is a smell of cedar or scented candles I am not liking. I can smell it through my face cover. Right now I don't see the candles. This store has three floors and a small outside patio area. I don't know if that section is open right now. Some of these clothes I see are around $110 to $24 . Whether or not this is with a discount, I can not say...okay, Vinyard Line is not for sale. Only stuff on sale is outside the store. Maybe I will see something I like, maybe I won't, but the music I am hearing is relaxing. read more

A very rude employee called me an ass because I did not see a sign. I am blind in one eye and have trouble seeing and attempted to walk through a door which had a sign reading "do not open". The employee saw me attempt to walk through the door and said "don't open that door!" To which I apologized and began to walk away. She then followed with "you saw the sign, don't be an ass!" This is awful treatment of customers and I very much hope that this employee finds peace in her life. read more

You know whenever you stay at a beach house, and they have the same exact factory kitsch? I think The Cotton Gin is where it all originates. Maybe I'm just salty that I missed the wine tasting downstairs. Or maybe it was because the staff was busy training someone and largely ignored me at the register. But hey, I bought a ceiling fan pull chain shaped like a shark, so I guess that's something. read more

Not quite sure what it is about this place but I always end up walking out of here with a new wine topper. Like I said prior this is the best Cotton Gin in the area to come to. Looks extra fancy here, like a spruced up barn. This time around I did notice that they have a ramp to enter this place, it is just around the other side of the building. The staff inside were super pleasant and able to guide us to our next destination when we had questions about the area. We definitely spent some time in here just looking at the merchandise. Huge store with three floors of gifts, clothing, beach gear, housewares, books, candles - really just about anything you are looking for. The first floor also has a wine tasting area. I am not sure about the hours for the wine tasting, but no one has ever been there when we stopped in (and we have made several stops over our visits at different times of the day). I believe they feature Sanctuary Wines. The Cotton Gin is the huge, red, standalone building as you first enter Timbuck II Shopping Center. There is plenty of parking in the shopping center lot. Prices are a bit higher, but there items are much better quality than what you find at the run of the mill beach stores. I am not a huge fan of Vera Bradley, but they had plenty of it if that is your thing. Personally, I love browsing the store and have found some cute items to take with me. I would have loved to have shopped at the Cotton Gin, however I wasn't able to because I was in a wheel chair. I tried to go up the "handicap accessible" ramp only to find the door at the very top was locked. Even after knocking a few times, the door still wasn't opened. This is the perfect way to separate people from their money. It's fine. It's a fine beach stop store with lots of beach things. Yes, I bought things. I gave it such a low review because the service was absolutely horrible. Whether it was because we went post Labor Day, whether it was because of the bad weather, I don't know. The store was full of people who were shopping but wow. The people working there were immensely rude. Maybe other Cotton Gins are nicer. read more

One of the few stores in the area that actually doesn't have all the same stuff as every other store, which is good considering there are 4 floors and 4 floors of the same crap would get pretty boring. We went to this place with my cousins. Great location too! The entry was kind of confusing, but we figured it out. There was a wide variety of stuff to choose from. The thing is, it was kind of expensive. Some stuff was really cheap, but a baseball cap was $29. Very welcoming, but the checkout was weird. Nice commercials too! read more

This place is filled from top to bottom (3 floors) with gifts you can't find at any of the mainstream shops which adds to its uniqueness. It's very reasonably priced as well. However, it seemed a little cluttered with the immense amount of items but that just means more choices! read more

Very nice store, certainly don't want to go there thinking your shopping at a strip mall beachside store. Very high end products and prices to match. Saw a glass dolphin priced at 12.95, and in another store they had the same piece for 3.95. You definitely don't want to get caught up in the inventory without being price conscious. I did find some pieces that I felt were comparably priced with other stores of the same type of inventory, all in all was a nice classy place to shop if you don't mind spending top dollar. read more
