Here, enjoy this gift" Well upon wandering with my boyfriend's mom (An OBX local) she recommended we wander into Urban Cottage. She knows my love for home furnishings and high end pieces and figured this would be my thing. And it totally was. Some of the most gorgeous pieces I have come across and they all were so whimsical and effortless. Such a great store. Their candle stick holders and chandeliers were to die for. If i had some extra chump change, I would definitely make some hefty purchases here. Dabbling in some other things like textiles, holiday decor, children's goodies, and pillows/throws, this tiny store packs a hefty punch. Looking forward to coming back here on my next visit.

I have visited all of the locations including most recently, the Duck store. Like the flagship store in Jarvisburg and the other locations, the Duck location is a multi-level maze of little rooms full of fun stuff. When I was a kid I remember The Cotton Gin having lots of boring cotton stuff - bedspreads, runners, placemats, towels and such. As an adult, I appreciate all of the nice quality cotton products they carry and I love shopping the other merchandise they carry. The Cotton Gin carries a fun variety of stuff from clothing, housewares, ornaments, home decor, souvenirs, jewelry and such. Its rare that I leave empty handed and even my husband likes shopping here! When I visit the Duck store in April the employee working was super friendly and welcoming which I really appreciated!

I wanted to see a necklace that was in a case, so I waited patiently until one of the two employees was available. When I asked if I could see it, the employee dramatically sighed and asked which one. I pointed it out, and she grabbed it, put it on the counter, and immediately started walking away. I had to get her attention again to ask what material it was. She responded, "Well, what does the tag say?" I looked at the other side of the tag, which had "gp" scribbled on it. She then said, with an annoyed tone, "Okay, so it's gold plated," as though I had asked some ridiculous question. Then she walked away again. The entire interaction was unnecessarily rude and dismissive. I wasn't asking for anything unreasonable. I was trying to purchase an item from the store. Instead, I was made to feel like I was bothering her simply by asking a question about something I was considering buying. I was so put off by the interaction that I didn't even want the necklace anymore. Why go out of your way to make a paying customer feel unwelcome for no apparent reason? I won't give my money to a business where the staff can't be bothered to treat customers with basic courtesy and respect. If you look at their Google reviews, the staff's attitude is a known issue. They apologize in response to reviews but make no adjustments. It's a shame for a store with such a nice selection and location to have the employees ruin the experience.
