Bottom Line: The flagship Cotton Gin offering cotton linens, clothing, home decor, scented soaps, and lots of other stuff. The Cotton Gin in Jarvisburg is their flagship store and its huge! It is so big that I think you enter the building in Jarvisburg but by the time you get to the north end of the building you're in Grandy. Ok, maybe that is an exaggeration but this is a delightfully huge store with stairs and ramps throughout and I love that the layout makes me feel like I am hunting for treasures. As a kid I found The Cotton Gin to be very boring but it has been decades since I followed my mother and grandmother around looking at linens and pottery. Now I enjoy taking my time perusing all of the goodies at The Cotton Gin like postcards, art prints, scented soaps, books, souvenirs, home décor, jewelry, Christmas ornaments and such. I like The Cotton Gin so much that I am not beyond visiting multiple locations on the same trip to OBX. Aside from the merchandise, I also like the displays. For starters they have so many traditional and non-traditional vintage display cases. They also have some great displays and their Christmas trees are super fun. I will say that during the prime season of June through August it would be tricky to access the store from Hwy 158 on weekends. Pops and I stopped here on our day trip. He muttered something about how my sister loves it here and always has to stop... scented candles and brick-a-brack... women love it... stuck for hours... With that kind of a build up, of course we had to stop. This place is like a Winchester Mystery House, with room connecting to room connecting to room. But the rooms are filled with Christmas dolls and tea towels and Americana galore. I was horrified (it's just not my style, OK?) until I saw a "Pirate Nook" listed on the map. This is seriously the coolest place for all your decor needs. Walking in here you basically believe you're walking into an old vintage house. Once you go in there is everything and anything. 1000x better than pier 1 imports. There is themed rooms even. You can find boat decor or cowboy decor. Any color you can think of. There is pictures and furniture. Also there is some candy and whatnot. They have different kinds of kitchen utensils and China. It is seriously a gold mine of things. You will not be disappointed. Ahoy there matey! This is the go to place for everything beachy, coastal & nautical. I usually stop here on my way to the OBX. The exterior has a red barn feel and is quite inviting. The inside is vast but well organized. They sell everything from bedding to bird houses. Upstairs feature Christmas items, while the main floor features more housewares. I literally want one of everything if it wasn't so $$$$. One of the best features is the "Wine Cellar". This level features local Carolina wines and every drinking accessory known to mankind. I love the Cotton Gin! I have visited both the store on caratoke hwy and in timbuktu- both have friendly helpful staff- they love their jobs! A few years ago need a few things to decorate for my daughters beach wedding just to personalize the house(and mementos of course!). The staff may have had more fun than we did! The staff also exposed us to Sanctuary Vinyards- that is all we served for the wedding! I have been to these stores numerous times and they never disappoint! Massive store with anything you can possibly need to buy for souvenirs!! Don't forget to check out the cute cafe at the back of the store that offers wine tasting, cheese plates, and sandwiches. They have a great picnic area outside to eat your food and enjoy your wine. I went with my mother in law and 2 sister in laws. We each had wine and shared a cheese plate on the most perfect day outside. The waitress...Wendy...was SO nice and accommodating. We had such a great time! read more

Oh, the Cotton Gin. So many reasons to love you. You are huge yet charming, with more cluttered rooms of STUFF than I thought possible. This stuff includes: tons of Christmas decorations, kitchen items, beachy decorations, towels and bedding, Vera Bradley bags, mens and womens clothing, souveneirs, sandals, sunglasses, jewelry, garden stuff, and a wine cellar with free tastings! This is your typical gift shop, beach fare, girly type of shop so while the other reviews touch on that, I want to note that this place is not very accessible for those with mobility issues. It was really disappointing to see that is was handicapped accessible only to realize that about 1/3 of the store is accessible to people who can't do stairs. My mom is somewhat unsteady on her feet and walks with a cane. She avoids stairs at all possible and this place has stairs all around...it truly is the only way to experience the store. Soooo....if you plan on bringing someone here who isn't able to go up and down stairs with confidence, please know that they are likely to only experience just a bit of the store. read more
