Great scenic town along the river. Visited Westport by motorcycling in on a weekday for their fish in chips however the place we were supposed to go to was closed. Visited The Cove Country Inn instead and had the poutine. We sat outside and the view was very nice! Service was great! No complaints about the food we ordered from the lunch menu. If you're visiting or in the area give it a try!

Nice little inn. Delicious dinner. Only true complaint is that there is no staff on duty over night and if you want to check out early you can't. Staff doesn't arrive till 10 am or later.

    Yorkie

Stopped in for dinner recently. Dining room was closed so we ate in the pub side. Pleasant atmosphere and we had a window seat. Band playing but was decent and far enough away and not so loud that we could not converse. Had the chicken stuffed with goat cheese and the Yorkie. Both were quite good. Cheese and beer dip appetizer was a bit thin and not impressive. Had some house wine and it was fine. Funny pricing though. $22 for 500 ml and $35 for 750 ml. All in all a pretty good stop though.

Meh. Truly mediocre food, and slowwwwwww service. If it wasn't one of the very few options in town, I doubt they'd still be in business,

The waiter ordered my sons chicken fingers and came out with fish and chips. Also it took 2 hours to bring the food out. NOT KID FRIENDLY!

We paid $152 a night including taxes and fees (booked directly through the hotel, not a third party). This hotel is right off Highway 401, so very convenient. We had a room facing the Brockville Convention Centre and not facing the highway, so noise was not a problem. It is within walking distance to a few shops, restaurants, and fast food joints. It's a Holiday Inn Express, so the rooms are pretty basic. No fridge, no microwave. However, you get free hot breakfast buffet, free WiFi and free parking. The rooms were clean. I carry Clorox wipes with me when I stay in hotels and I wipe down all the hard surfaces. The wipes came out white (not grey or black), so I was happy. There were some stains on the fabric computer chair at the desk though, so this was a bit off-putting, but I've seen much worse at other hotels. They have a small fitness centre and pool. I didn't use the pool, but I saw it because the pool and fitness centre are separated by a glass wall. I think it's a bit weird to have to look at people in the pool while you're on the elliptical, but I guess the glass wall makes the fitness centre look and feel not as small. The fitness centre is tiny. The sign says maximum room capacity is 6 people (!) The room only has 1 elliptical, 2 stationary bikes and a treadmill, no free weights/dumbbells, so I have no idea what the other 2 people would be doing, lol. I was a bit disappointed that there weren't any weights, but given the small space, I guess that's understandable. So I had to be a cardio bunny during our stay, haha. The breakfast buffet was good and comparable to other Holiday Inn Expresses. We stayed for 2 nights and the breakfast selection did not change. The hot breakfast was turkey sausage, pork sausage and scrambled eggs. They had a pancake machine. They had cinnamon buns, muffins, bagels, English muffins, and bread. They had oatmeal (with toppings you can add like raisins, walnuts, brown sugar and cinnamon), 4 types of cereal, yogurt, and boiled eggs. They had juices, coffee, tea and hot chocolate (the last 3 are available 24/7). All the staff were exceptionally nice. Stella was very warm and welcoming. They also give you Tic-Tacs in your room when you arrive and housekeeping writes you a nice welcome note. After our first night there, I left a thank-you note for housekeeping along with our tip and mentioned that I loved the Tic-Tacs. When we returned, our room attendant (Kylie) wrote me a nice note back and gave me extra Tic-Tacs! How nice was that? They also called our room on the second night that we were there to ask us if everything was ok with our room (they may have called us on our first night there but we weren't in our room so we don't know). This HIE also has free popcorn in the lobby everyday from 7pm-9pm. We didn't have the opportunity to have any, but I think that it's a very nice extra. WiFi was fast and reliable. Parking was plentiful. We would definitely stay at this hotel again.

TL;DR/The Short Version: The only big chain hotel in Perth,…read moreON. It ranks towards the middle of the pack in comparison to other Best Westerns, in my opinion. The Long Version: My husband and I were staying a night in Perth, Ontario and stayed at this Best Western. There was a wedding going on that weekend (not the reason we were there), so it was quite busy. They have a small parking lot that's broken up into 3 different areas. We lucked out and found a parking spot, but it was really crowded and due to it being winter with snow on the ground covering the painted lines and some snow banks, some spots were not available and people were parked not as neatly as they could have. When we booked, there was only one room left, the accessible room, so we took it, even though we didn't need an accessible room. When we arrived we told the front desk the story and advised them that if they needed the accessible room for someone else, we could take a different room. They said they didn't need it, but the room is next to the kitchen so if we weren't part of the wedding, they'd move us because it will be loud with lots of traffic. Apparently they had a cancellation so they moved us. I appreciated this. We did end up getting 2 queen beds instead of a king bed, which was ok, we didn't use the second bed and just had to snuggle closer on the first bed, haha. We did get there a bit early and they said they could check us in but there would be a $25 early check-in fee, so we said we'd be back and check in at the regular time. When we returned a bit before 5pm check-in went smoothly. Staff were pleasant. The room itself looked nice and was spacious. The first thing I noticed was they fold towels into cute shapes and place them on the bed. We had 2 different swans. They still have miniature toiletries which I prefer over the wall-mounted toiletries that so many hotels have switched over to. I find the minis more sanitary and minis are just so cute, lol. The body lotion wasn't the best quality though. It was winter and my hands were dry like sandpaper and the lotion did not keep my hands moisturized. So anyone who knows me, knows I Clorox all hard surfaces in hotel rooms as soon as I arrive (something I've been doing for the past 20 years, lol). The cleaning in the bathroom wasn't as thorough as I would have liked because when I wiped the sink counter with a Clorox wipe, all these short gray hairs ended up on the wipe. Looked like the previous guest trimmed their beard or cut their hair or something. The counter had that dark granite appearance, so it was hard to see the hair. I actually didn't even see it looking at the counter, but definitely saw it when my Clorox wipe picked it all up. The underside of the towel rack was also rusted and turned my Clorox wipe all brown. I did like that the room was large. I also liked that the towels were not too close to the toilet, although they were over the toilet, which is not my preferred placement (but at least not literally an inch from the top of the toilet like I've seen at other hotels, yuck). I liked that the bathroom had a magnifying mirror that pulled out from the wall. Very useful for applying makeup. The bathroom was also well-lit. The sink, while pretty was a bit inconvenient because the faucet spout didn't come out enough to the centre of the basin. The faucet was too close to the wall and the counter stuck out of the wall a lot, so you have to lean really forward to get your hands under the faucet, but you can't stand closer because the counter is in the way. Maybe it was just our room. At first I thought it was just me because I'm short with short arms, but my husband is 5'11" (with arms proportional to his height) and he had the same complaint, lol. I like that they had both a fridge and a microwave. The mini fridge however, did not have a freezer section. I liked that the beds were raised. There's a coffee machine that makes Van Houtte coffee and hot chocolate in the lobby (no French Vanilla drinks though, which is my favourite from these types of machines). There's also a good selection of Higgins and Burke, and President's Choice teas. These drinks are complimentary for guests. You get complimentary breakfast at their restaurants The Locks with your stay. Breakfast is 7am-10am and it's not a buffet, you order from a limited menu. Breakfast was ok, nothing too memorable. We both had bacon and eggs which came with home fries and toast. They also have a pool, sauna and fitness centre, none of which we used. Overall, an alright stay. We would stay again. Thank you, Trevor for making my birthday getaway more than exceed my expectations. Black River…read moreRetreat was everything and more for my husband and me. It's funny how you can feel a "vibe" of a place as soon as you walk in. No word of a lie, almost immediately we could feel the love that you put into BRR as well as the love from all those that stayed before us. We felt very much welcomed and at home and it's because you do everything you can to make it that way. Everything about Black River Retreat was a joy but I do need to emphasize Trevor's cooking. OMG. SO. GOOD!  The food was amazing in both looks and taste and our yummy meals *both a hearty breakfast and a gourmet dinner each day/night* were the icing to our cake of our two nightsq. My husband and I can highly recommend both the medallions of pork and cedar planked salmon but given Trevor's talent his Cornish game hen should be delicious as well! Our suite was spacious and beautiful with a queen-sized log bed covered in luxurious blankets, a cozy sitting room with a beautiful fireplace as well as a small fridge, microwave and keurig machine. Bathroom is shower only but  beautifully done (I particularly loved the ceiling rainfall/showerhead option!) Everything about Black River Retreat is truly about getting away, turning everything off and reconnecting with your spouse/partner/significant other. It was wonderful being present and concentrating on each other, whether it was watching a movie or playing a board game in the upstairs lounge/games room--complete with poker table and dartboard!--or in the dining room talking and eating one of the sumptuous meals or walking around this scenic and peaceful property or just enjoying the outdoor hot tub that was literally a few steps from our private entrance, my husband and I felt very fortunate to have found this place. Pros: See above. And fyi if you break out in a rash at the thought of turning all electronics off, don't worry there's free wifi as well as the ability to play your music. The biggest plus is the owner/general contractor/chef of Black River Retreat, Trevor. He is the perfect host, respecting our privacy and discretely working behind the scenes so we could have a truly romantic time and yet was on call for us if we needed something. Cons: My husband and I did sleep fine but we do prefer a slightly firmer mattress. Also we couldn't figure out how to turn off all the 'romantic lighting' i.e. the trees in the bedroom when we finally wanted to sleep. But truthfully those things I can live with given all the plusses. For anyone hesitating for whatever reason about going to Black River Retreat--especially if it's about the cost--is to book ASAP.  It may sound cliche but my husband and I thought it was worth every penny. Hoping to return and experience the place in early summer but we've already booked for next year during the beautiful fall colours! Again thank you Trevor! Warm Regards, Jacqui

The retreat is beautiful, with a warm, rustic, cabin-like feel, the ambiance truly makes for a romantic getaway. The outdoor space was breathtaking, with a trail along the water, and 2 outdoor fire-pits, there are lots of chairs and areas to sit (weather dependent of course). The outdoor hot-tub area is serene and very relaxing, it overlooks the outdoor space so I'm sure it's very cute in the summer with all of the candles lit and string lighting on. The food served was truly 10/10, perfect portion sizes, delicious creations, and all beautifully presented. The entire experience was made extra special by all of the small details, from smore's set-ups with the perfectly trimmed stick (to roast the marshmallow on), to the whiskey and cigar bar upstairs (perfect little surprise space too), to the locked in love chain, the candles spread out throughout the resort, to the ready to light fireplaces (3 total), the photo posted online do not do the location justice even, Highly Recommended for any couple looking for a romantic getaway! Trevor really out did himself!
