5/5 -- The Best Hotel I Have Ever Stayed At I stayed at the 1000 Islands Harbor Hotel in Clayton, NY and it honestly exceeded every expectation I had. This is hands-down the best hotel I have ever stayed at. The rooms were extremely spacious, spotlessly clean, and beautifully designed. It had such a charming, romantic, and peaceful feel -- from the cozy pillows to the walk-in tiled shower, plush robes, and thoughtful touches like a a sachet and a wine opener already waiting in the room. It felt like being away, but somehow still like home. Waking up in the morning, opening the curtains, and seeing that endless water view right outside the balcony felt like something out of a movie. The grounds are gorgeous, and the fire pits outside added such a warm and relaxing touch in the evenings. Plenty of parking made things easy, and everything just felt so well thought-out. The restaurant was also excellent -- we had wine that was fantastic, plus fresh bread with an olive tapenade that was memorable on its own. Every part of the dining experience was just as impressive as the hotel itself. I've stayed in many hotels over the years -- this one is truly in a class of its own. Charming, elegant, romantic, comfortable, and extremely well cared for. I will absolutely be back -- and I'll be recommending this hotel to everyone I know.

Tucked right up against the St. Lawrence River like it was always meant to be there, the 1000 Islands Harbor Hotel is the kind of place that feels both grand and familiar. The kind of place where the staff greet you with the sort of kindness that can't be trained, warm, genuine, like they've been saving your seat for years. Jim, in particular, carries the spirit of the place like it's stitched into his jacket, steady, gracious, proud. The views are near biblical, water stretching out like a sheet of glass, boats gliding by like whispered stories. The rooms wrap around you like a soft hymn, quiet and clean, with just the right touch of elegance. The location can't be beat, you're steps away from charm, history, and anything your heart might fancy. But the food... Lord, the food. It doesn't just fill you, it feeds something deeper. It's the kind of cooking that makes you close your eyes after the first bite, because somehow the flavors remind you of a good memory you didn't know you'd forgotten. It's not just a hotel. It's a place where the world slows down just enough for you to remember what matters.

Loved our room with balcony and river view. Unfortunately it was bitter cold in December but room rates are very affordable off season. Very walkable to shops and restaurants that were open. King size comfortable bed with tons of pillows. Lots of extras vanity area with mirror, wine glasses, tongs, wine opener, evening turndown. Loved the Christmas decor! They even delivered a microwave to our room to heat up leftovers at 11pm. Enjoyed Christmas cocktails at the bar both evenings, walked the town and enjoyed festive lights!

The extreme dust buildup in their HVAC system

The food here is not edible. The building looks nice and the rooms are nice, but poorly maintained. I got a sinus infection because of the level of dust in the room. The staff is miserable and of my three day stay here, there were only two that were professional and attentive. The general lack of guest satisfaction at this hotel was astonishing. I attached a picture of the air filter from my room.

What a lovely hotel! We were greeted with beautiful fall decor. We are so glad we got river view balcony to enjoy slow mornings overlooking the water. There were even throws on the beds to use for blankets on the balcony! Everything is provided in the room including a dressing table, mini fridge, robes, toiletries, wine glasses and a cork screw. The turn down service is a nice touch. Fresh coffee and tea is available on each floor every morning. The restaurant and bar is great along with the riverfront fire pits. We really enjoyed our stay and can't wait to come back!

    Dusty clock

Just okay. For $200 the room was clean except for dusty bedside table and alarm clock...see photos. I hope they focus on cleaning a bit more in season when I expect rooms are 4 times as much. The walls are really thin - the librarian convention in the lobby had us hopeful for a quiet evening but the loud, running toddler in an adjacent room took care of that. Front desk staff was extremely pleasant. We did not visit the bar/restaurant. The pool is literally in the lobby so be advised. Pictures online pretty representative of our experience except for dust issue.

The Wooden Boat Inn offers different types of accommodations you can rent a house but think they only rent that by the week. Then they have 6 different rooms available all which have a different layout and shocking but true all are updated! The first thing when looking at the place from the outside you think or we did was it's got a nautical theme. It looked well maintained on the outside which made me pull in to check on availability and rates. I lucked out the owners Tom & Carol were there and they showed us around and were a wealth of knowledge about the area but back to that in a minute. The first room that they took us to was called Room Six the door opened and I waited for that musky , moldy , dirty smell..... To my surprise it didn't have any odor at all I couldn't believe it plus it was updated new furniture , tv etc... Next we checked out Rooms 1 thru 5 and again found them all clean , no odor and updated. Back to the owners Tom & Carol they are truly wonderful from the information they shared to the little extras they did for us. They went above and beyond in ever aspect to make us feel welcome and special. We were so impressed we booked a full week for later in the summer. My rating of 5 stars is because I have never stayed in as clean Motel as this plus it's updated and the owners just make this place so welcoming.....

I made reservations for a 2 night stay, via Expedia, after indicating there were accommodations available for my date of travel... I received a CONFIRMATION with a confirmation # leading me to make further plans, during our stay. A few days later, I received an email, from Expedia, letting me know that since "I CANCELED MY RESERVATION," at Chateau Country Inn, a refund was forthcoming..... The PROBLEM is THIS..... I, nor my husband, canceled our reservation so I needed to find out what was going on. I made approximately 5 phone call attempts, with voice mails left, requesting a call back from someone to discuss. I NEVER heard from ANYONE from Chateau Country Inn!! I then drafted an email and finally received a cold reply stating basically.." sorry, we can't offer you a room if we have none available. " There was ZERO explanation to what happened; apparently they didn't care. Obviously the cancellation was processed on THEIR END, by not honoring my CONFIRMED RESERVATION! My point is this!!!! If establishments are booking via any of the travel sites it is poor business & unprofessional NOT making sure that THEIR website is up to date and/or accurate... Sadly, the additional plans that I made, AFTER receiving my CONFIRMATION, had to be altered. Needless to say leaving us, and others, at quite a disadvantage for the days planned.... Would I ever consider booking with this location again???????? Not a chance and neither would many others to whom I have shared my experience...

A few days prior to staying at Bertrand's we got a key to the room and after a long day of swimming, boating, touring, etc. we dragged our feet to our room, pulled out the key, and the door wouldn't open. It appeared to be dead-bolted from the inside. Strange. How could it be dead-bolted from the inside. Oh! Someone must be in there. Anyway, we called the front desk. The room was, in fact, given to someone else (who I'm sure was freaking out that a group of people were trying to break in to their room late at night). On the phone, the guy from the front desk was skeptical. A few minutes later he came out looking nervous. After telling a few minutes talking with him and showing him the key to the room he basically wanted us to just go away. Luckily, I had other family members staying in hotel (see Chris B's review) that helped me talk with the guy. After a while he remembered he had a room that just needed cleaning. He took about 45 minutes to clean the room while we hung out in one of my family members room. In the room, one of the beds was completely sagging, the other totally firm. While there wasn't anything specifically dirty about the room it was generally not a good feeling. Hot water was fine for us (but not my other family members). Didn't try the other amenities (or lack thereof, according to the other reviews) as we simply just slept there.
