My fiance and I were in town for the first time visiting friends in the area and they got us a room at the Harbor Hotel. The location was very convenient to the town, walkable to all the restaurants and shops. Our room was very comfortable and spacious, and the bed and pillows were SO comfy. We also had a nice view of the water and boats from the room, which was a bonus. However, the balcony hadn't been cleaned off in a while as there were lots of bugs and cobwebs. The hotel also offers Starbucks coffee on each floor every morning! The breakfast on the patio was good, but the service was a little slow. We also enjoyed happy hour on the patio one night though --the crab dip was delicious, and the espresso martini was excellent. A couple of things to know before your stay: there aren't complimentary bottled waters in the room, but the front desk is happy to provide them if you ask. The hotel also doesn't have a late-night market or convenience area for drinks and snacks, which would have been nice. Overall, we really enjoyed our stay and would definitely recommend The Harbour Hotel for anyone visiting Clayton. read more

This hotel is really nice. Been here a few times and returned under their special winter pkg. Occupancy was low. Room was clean. Restaurant was excellent. Breakfast food and service excellent. Large portions. Starbucks coffee free, front desk in morning fantastic. Makes no sense, you can bring free coffee into Restaurant but if you order it with breakfast, $5.00. Front desk, Jacob evening fantastic. Some daytime staff at desk unfriendly and so, so. Shower, no cold water in couple rooms, some only hot water. Still overall recommended. Nice pool and hottub. If you're ever in the 1,000 Islands region of NY, this is the hotel to choose. It is a large building, plenty of parking, a gorgeous rear section comprised of beautiful landscaping, multiple fire pits, plenty of Adirondack chairs, you're just steps away from the St. Lawrence River, walking distance from many shops & eateries, and a stone's throw away from Canada. The hotel is four diamond AAA rated and the staff are very helpful and knowledgeable. The rooms are clean, comfortable, and the elevators are quick to serve. If you need insight into the local attractions or directions, their Concierge will be more than happy to assist. The on-site restaurant, Seaway Grille, is AMAZING, plus they have a full bar and patio seating. This is hands-down the best hotel I have ever stayed at. The rooms were extremely spacious, spotlessly clean, and beautifully designed. It had such a charming, romantic, and peaceful feel -- from the cozy pillows to the walk-in tiled shower, plush robes, and thoughtful touches like a a sachet and a wine opener already waiting in the room. It felt like being away, but somehow still like home. Waking up in the morning, opening the curtains, and seeing that endless water view right outside the balcony felt like something out of a movie. The grounds are gorgeous, and the fire pits outside added such a warm and relaxing touch in the evenings. Plenty of parking made things easy, and everything just felt so well thought-out. The restaurant was also excellent -- we had wine that was fantastic, plus fresh bread with an olive tapenade that was memorable on its own. Every part of the dining experience was just as impressive as the hotel itself. I've stayed in many hotels over the years -- this one is truly in a class of its own. This is a very nice hotel and only a short walk to the middle of town. Our room was large, the bed very comfortable, and the bathroom was very nice. Everything was very well thought out. My excursion to the North Country (1000 Islands region) of New York State was amazing, with the exception of the second day of my 2 night stay at this "four-star" hotel. First, a fire alarm at 2:30 am meant I didn't sleep the rest of the night (meanwhile, I had to check out the next day and drive 3 hours to get home. Maybe no big deal for a young person in good health, but for a senior with myriad health issues, this was the start of a bad experience that just kept snowballing. Next, the hotel's boiler broke and it took them all night and well past 9 am before it was fixed. Right at the time when everyone is trying to take their shower, but can't so they can't get out, check out or just wash their hands???? How does a business whose sole service is providing "hospitality" NOT have a backup boiler?? Not a perfect solution, but a backup could have been activated and some service restored while the main boiler was being repaired during the morning wake-up, get out and go hours. The hotel doesn't offer a continental breakfast, just an overpriced and reportedly mediocre restaurant onsite. They do offer coffee, but there was NO coffee when I checked, even though it was still well within the window when they purport to offer it--and no one in sight to ask if they could refill the carafes. So now, I've had it. All I want to do is get the hell out. But I have severe COPD so I have to lug my oxygen machine as well as regular luggage anytime I travel. I could'nt manage all of it by myself. But of course all TWO of the luggage carts were in use by able-bodied single thirty somethings or families with children. Wouldn't it make sense for the hotel to reserve at least ONE cart for people in wheelchairs or who have trouble BREATHING??? When I went back to retrieve my oxygen machine, the key card would not open the room door because it was just past checkout time, so I had to go back to the lobby and ask the front desk to temporarily reactivate my card key. Will I visit Clayton NY again? Absolutely. Will I stay at the Harbor Hotel again? Sorry to say, No. read more

Loved our room with balcony and river view. Unfortunately it was bitter cold in December but room rates are very affordable off season. Very walkable to shops and restaurants that were open. King size comfortable bed with tons of pillows. Lots of extras vanity area with mirror, wine glasses, tongs, wine opener, evening turndown. Loved the Christmas decor! They even delivered a microwave to our room to heat up leftovers at 11pm. Enjoyed Christmas cocktails at the bar both evenings, walked the town and enjoyed festive lights! read more

Always stay here for our 2 night winter getaway with friends. Rooms are impeccable, 3 types of hot coffee ,Ice all at the end of the hall on each floor. The Seaway Bar and Grill won't disappoint. Food is always fresh and delish! I love the Filet with wine reduction demi glaze. Salads are huge and high quality. After dinner head over to the bar and see Cory. He hails from Florida and has some amazing tropical drink making skills. I had him make me a MAI-TAI and I thought I was down in south Florida instead of 15 degree Clayton NY. Go There!!! read more

We were at this hotel for almost two full weeks. It was always busy, but the staff were relaxed and friendly. Never rushed, and very accommodating with any extra requests, amenities etc. ours could not have been a more pleasant experience. The staff went above and beyond also when we left a few items in the room, and returned them to us in a timely manner. The location is perfect for dining, meeting up with family and friends for entertaining and the like. I am from the area, but now live in GA. We were a party of four stopping in for dinner to celebrate several birthdays. The food and our waiter were very good. The down side was it took 97 minutes for our food to arrive. The manager stopped by to apologize. There was a large wedding and two staff in the kitchen didn't show up. She comped us a round of drinks to ease the frustration. We also received a desert since it was our birthdays. While the service wasn't good the food was and we'll be stopping again next year in our visit to the 1000 islands. read more

The food here is not edible. The building looks nice and the rooms are nice, but poorly maintained. I got a sinus infection because of the level of dust in the room. The staff is miserable and of my three day stay here, there were only two that were professional and attentive. The general lack of guest satisfaction at this hotel was astonishing. What a lovely hotel! We were greeted with beautiful fall decor. We are so glad we got river view balcony to enjoy slow mornings overlooking the water. There were even throws on the beds to use for blankets on the balcony! Everything is provided in the room including a dressing table, mini fridge, robes, toiletries, wine glasses and a cork screw. The turn down service is a nice touch. Fresh coffee and tea is available on each floor every morning. The restaurant and bar is great along with the riverfront fire pits. Booked a two night stay in November, 2023 for the Thanksgiving holiday with NO hot water in our room. Spoke to SEVERAL different hotel employees regarding this issue with no resolution. I checked the hot water in the restroom in the pool area and no hot water there either! Maintenance came to our room and informed us that this was "a hotel wide problem". However, when speaking to employees at the front desk, they weren't even aware that maintenance came in our room nor were they aware or at least they would not admit that this was "a hotel wide problem". Apparently maintenance does not communicate with the front desk? We were told that there was another room available for us to move to (two floors higher than where we were) which would have been a huge inconvenience on our part. Yet the hotel employee never followed through with the offer. Also, employees acted like our situation was an isolated incident until checking out when we were asked: "how was everything?" Once again, we had to explain that we took cold showers and had to wash/clean hands and face with cold water yet this time it was confirmed that this issue of no hot water was a hotel problem and not isolated to just our room as we were told other guests had similar experiences. We were issued a whopping $65.49 credited back to our original form of payment. REALLY??? You want me to return??? You need to do a lot better than that! I find it completely unacceptable that not one person approached us regarding this issue. Where was the hotel manager and why wasn't management involved? The lack of hot water in any hotel let alone one that charges a decent amount of money is a HUGE problem and not addressing it is an even bigger issue. The lack of concern that was shown to us was very displeasing! I am already considering different accommodation for next year. I will be sharing this unfortunate situation with my friends who frequent the Harbor Hotel. VERY DISAPPOINTING!!! read more

Just okay. For $200 the room was clean except for dusty bedside table and alarm clock...see photos. I hope they focus on cleaning a bit more in season when I expect rooms are 4 times as much. The walls are really thin - the librarian convention in the lobby had us hopeful for a quiet evening but the loud, running toddler in an adjacent room took care of that. Front desk staff was extremely pleasant. We did not visit the bar/restaurant. The pool is literally in the lobby so be advised. Great location and a little pricey. The place has become dirty and their policies are not friendly toward guest who want a place to sit and socialize. We and another group of 2 people were asked to leave the covered outdoor sitting area if we were not going to order anything. It was raining and we were the only people in the bar/ restaurant area. The only place the staff said we could sit was inside the business center, or the four chairs in the lobby ( which already had people sitting in them). We had to go to our room to sit down and socialize or play cards. The porch off our room was covered in spider webs and bugs. The flies were terrible and the place needs Terminex! The food was pricy and was good. Only 1 elevator works and only holds 5 people. When the cleaning people use it, it can take a long time to get to the rooms. Can't use the stairs to go up since it goes to the outside on the first floor with no outdoor keyed entrance. Probably will not back read more

Very disappointed. We have stayed here quite a bit and it's always been nice. This last time it seems they've made major cut backs but the biggest was NO HOT water. We stayed two nights in room 428. We were told this happens if the hotel is either super full or very quiet. No solution. Another couple on same floor was complaining about the same issue. They no longer provide coffee on the individual floors Sunday through Friday. We usually come during the week and there is coffee on each floor. We stayed Sunday to Tuesday. NOISE started at 11pm and continued for close to an hour. Sounded like chairs and furniture moving around. No slippers provided anymore. Couldn't check in until 4pm. Usually we can check in early. Staff unprofessional (front desk) dressed in flannel, etc. Waited at least 8 minutes at desk to check in. Two women sitting on other side of room on their cell phones. Pool and excercise room were closed. Would have been nice to be notified. The list continues. Would NOT recommend staying during winter months. Hopefully better during the summer. OH, we were given vouchers for complimentary breakfast. After we checked out, looking over the receipt, we were CHARGED for breakfast. Extremely disappointed. read more

This four star hotel needs to be staffed like one. There is no maid service unless you stay in the hotel for four nights. That means no new towels, shampoo, etc. unless you call the front desk. There is no concierge to assist you. No one to carry your luggage. You are on your own much like a Holiday Inn Express, only you are paying more than $400 a standard room. The property itself is nice. There is a acceptable gym with three ellipticals, a few treed mills, three bikes, a universal gym and come weights. There are nice views of the harbor and a number of areas to sit and watch the view. The views are it for this hotel, but the staff, though they are few are insufficient to run a hotel at the level that this hotel should be run. The building and rooms are nice and tastefully decorated. read more

Horrible from new year's reservations Saturday night fever right on through the entire night. from the start the manager screwed up reservations I made for 3 couples then she tried to charge my card more money for the rooms I had to threaten to call sheriff department for fraud if she did. this hotel does not no hospitality at all. I spent $2000 on just this one night and the rooms were dirty and disgusting and the bathroom. the party was lame as hell that was no seventy's party at all the Dj a millennial and was horrible, and the staff are incompetent and know nothing and can't even answer your questions. The DJ didn't even keep an eye on when the ball dropped, he was off on the time and didn't even play the New Year's Eve song at the end of the night and the staff were in such a hurry to clean all the tables the minute the ball dropped they were taking our drinks on us. Open bar sucked they don't know what open bar is. The food was not the greatest either and they crammed everyone together at dinner time nothing was organized. Oh, and how can I forget the two drunk gentleman spilling alcohol on everyone on the dance floor and the manager Ann Marie doing nothing about it real professional lady. I stayed in the harbor hotel for two nights in March. the location is terrific. My room was terrific, too. It was spacious enough, clean and cozy in hotel room terms. The best, though was the incredible location and view on the iconic Saint Lawrence River. I spent a lot of time sitting on the couch, looking out of the window and watching this magnificent stream silently roll by. It eased my mind and gave me assess to a feeling of peace inside of me. Booking my two nights over the phone went quite well. The young lady on the phone and later on the counter showed me two rooms to choose from and managed the paperwork well. Nothing to complain about there. I could not prevent the feeling, though, that her friendliness was rather a professional face she decided to show. Nothing wrong with that. Who can be friendly to strangers all the time? I couldn't. so I commend her for her effort to being professionally friendly I ordered a dinner via room service. The service was quick, the food was ~OK~ what irritated me, though , was that they added an 18% tip plus room service charges --- without mentioning it prior to performing the service. I was stunned, not very happy. The young man bringing the food up to my room was just too friendly - I did not have it within me to complain. So I decided to continue looking out of my window, letting the majestic Saint Lawrence River ease my mind just a little longer. read more

Went to Harbor Hotel for New Years Eve Package$509.00 total. Theme was Saturday Night Fever. DJ did not play disco music based on the theme. played a lot of 80's and 50's. Also part of package was open bar. They ran out of my drink of choice Jack Daniels at 10:30 PM. you would think that an establishment of this magnitude would be better prepared and provide entertainment as they advertised. Came here to view the 1000 islands without having to stay in outdated Alexandria Bay. Great hotel, new and modern..everyone was nice to us. The food, view, pool and everything was great. They were constantly cleaning during covid19 which was great. Did notice a few hotel guests wouldn't wear their masks and felt like it should be heavily enforced although there was signs...one downside was the hostess at the restaurant didn't seem right .. Emily...she was hesitant about breakfast seating and dinner seating making weird excuses...seemed like she just didn't wanna be there..but besides her all in all great place read more

This was one of the finest properties I have ever stayed at! I arrived a little after 4:00 in the afternoon. As many businesses are, they were short staffed, so my room was not ready. The gentleman at the front desk apologized and offered me a drink coupon at the hotel bar for everyone in my party. He went out of his way to accommodate us for a very minor inconvenience. It really showed he valued our business! The resort is situated on the St Lawrence River with outstanding views, a magnificent patio area with fire pits and Adirondack chairs. The room was well appointed, very comfortable, spacious and clean. The property is a short walk to downtown, where there are many shops and restaurants.
