I'll start with the positives: There are lots of groups here, the space, although small, is well used, and the music is absolutely amazing! All the congregates seemed so enthusiastic to be there, which really drew me in until the sermon. I also love that they offer ASL interpretations in their recorded sermons! All that being said, I found myself feeling intimidated by the amount of "fire and brimstone" preaching towards sinners and non-believers and was put off by the amount of political discussion by congregation members outside of the service that made me, an openly queer person, feel a bit unsafe and ready to get going as soon as I could. I'm so glad this place works for some people, but the lack of compassion for outsiders did not work for me.

Overall the rest of the service was GREAT but I swear the priest needs to get to the point and not involve his personal life into a new starting and bloom family life and complex things about the bride and grooms future! I have been going to…read moreSanta Rosa Christian Church ever since, but I still remember the first day I walked in the doors. I'd never been to church before and had no idea what to expect. And to say self-conscious would be an understatement. But from the second I walked in I felt like I was already home. Many greeted me, genuinely, and their love radiated out. SRCC's community is authentic and welcoming. The Spirit moves in this place and the people practice the love we are called to act in. Colossians 3:12 says "Therefore, as God's chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience" (NIV). I feel nothing less from this church and look forward to Sunday morning eagerly. I believe it is this attitude that makes my daughters say that church is their favorite place and Sunday is their favorite day. On Mondays I run a Mothers Group. On Tuesdays I attend the weekly Food Giveaway. On Wednesdays I have dinner with my Life Group and one day my children will attend Youth Group. This church has many ministries to serve in and opportunities for fellowship, as well as a body that feels like family. I am grateful that God placed me here and think anyone else who was looking for a church would feel the same.
