The current facility was built in the 1990's as an addition to the previous Carnegie facility. The new facility is spacious with two floors of books and a third floor of study and meeting rooms. I took my granddaughter to check out the library during her spring break. The colorful children's area is located in the basement area. There is a massive collection of books and, today, there were space-themed books on display. There is a large play area for toddlers with kitchen and climbing structures. A number of board games and puzzles are available for kids to play in an open area. We read several books in a cozy area. There is a classroom available near the area. Librarians were friendly and helpful in the children's area. On the main floor, are adult books, a teen activity center and a heritage room. The teen center attracts after school teen that can work on homework, play games or work on art projects. The heritage center houses reference materials including local school year books, local history, genealogy materials, local newspapers and much more. One of the most interesting features of the Library is the collection of vintage art by local artist. Beautiful paintings and more are located throughout the library. Unlike other parks in there area, there are no restroom facilities, but maybe those are coming soon, too. The park is hidden behind a subdivision. There is parking for about 15 cars and a paved walkway to the playground. The town is seeking input on what to add to the park. I think they need fences between the playground and ponds to protect wandering kids. Some shaded benches would be helpful as well.

It is the work of local artist Nekoda Witsken, who is also the owner of Hue Murals. She completed the mural in 2021 in about 2 weeks. This is a unique and interesting mural. It is in Witsken's signature "color explosion" style. And it also seamlessly incorporates a regaining wall that it in front of the primary wall. It has a 3D cutout flower panel on it. The mural itself is not painted directly on the Jiffy Lube wall because the wall is exposed brick. Witsken used large specially cut aluminum dibord to create a floated surface on which to paint. The mural depicts the colorful image of a black woman's face and a nonbinary person with their arms up above their head while they are standing in front of a sunflower. The retaining wall has a 3D flower and continues with the black woman's neck and top portion of her body. There is also a very close up image of the upper right side of a face. This piece grabs your attention. I like how Witsken uses colors. Witsken aimed to paint a mural that featured empowered, diverse people in terms of both gender and race. She hopes this mural inspires people to take a deep breath, grow their positivity, and be open to those around them. Witsken is very talented and I am a fan of her work. You claims that this piece is her best work thus far. You should really check this mural out if you are in the area. As with most murals that I have visited and reviewed, this is not a very long stop. I was there less than 5 minutes.  You may want to consider planning out additional stops at many of the other attractions in the area, or making this stop part of a larger itinerary to maximize your time and trip. You could start with the Lincoln Mural (another of Witsken's pieces) or Lincoln Park.

Even though I live southwest of Indy and this new mural is north west, I am so glad I went. She was still working on the mural so I got a brief moment to chat with her. Now I will have to make a return visit to capture the final version. Hopefully some other Yelpers will stop by who can add more photos until I get back to the area to share. As part of an ongoing series sponsored by Jiffy Lube of Indiana, the business wants to be a good neighbor and bring art to the community in unexpected places. In its fifth year at the time of this installation, the business coordinates with the Arts Council of Indianapolis to find local artists who would be willing to take on the opportunity to have their work seen by lots of folks who might not make it to galleries or art museums. One of the limitations is that the mural should have nothing to do with vehicles or that might be interpreted as simply advertising. The artists are given a great deal of freedom to be creative which is one reason this artist Koda Witsken enjoyed working on the project. All artists are paid for their work too! According to comments on the artist's website (Hue Murals), the mural was inspired by the chance to show gender and ethnic diversity as well as the native flowers of Indiana. One of the most impressive things about the mural (in addition to her amazing sense of color and talent) is that she hand paints with brushes (no spray cans for her) the entire 400 sq ft area! Imagine painting a 12 x12 room just over 8 ft tall with paint brushes, no roller? My hands ache just thinking about that task! Another challenge the artist had to deal with is that sometimes the mural may be replaced, so to preserve the art she paints on specially cut aluminum dibord which can be attached and then removed for another location later. In some of my photos you will notice the white dibord before she had a chance to finish the mural with painted jewelry. Personally, I love how the artist can see colors within color. Her work can be found all over the north side and she is adding more locations in the metro area. For more of her work check out my Collection of reviews and photos on Yelp. Review #3941

Oh my goodness there are so many activities to enjoy, both for kids and adults. The place was so crowded on a Saturday afternoon, and you could tell everyone was having a wonderful time. I would definitely recommend heading out there! A few things to note: first, dogs are allowed! If you are like me and have a trained service animal, it can be a bit overwhelming (if you know, you know). They are not allowed in indoor spaces, only outside (SD's allowed everywhere). But many people had their pets and seemed to really be enjoying themselves! Second, food does not really meet dietary needs/restrictions. They have a lot of your basic "fair foods" or foods you'd find at a pumpkin patch - hot pretzels, burgers, hot dogs, apple cider donuts, etc. I am vegetarian and really struggled to find a true meal other than little snacky things scattered about. If you are planning to spend the day here (which you can EASILY do), plan ahead with food in your car! Third, on the plus side, everything was wheelchair accessible. Terrain may be harder to navigate with gravel and many hills going up & down (paths are dirt but well established), but all buildings have access. Other than this, it truly was a fun time!! Would visit again, and am planning on it!

There is tons of parking here spread across three sections. One near the front and skate park. The other, in the center, near the prairie, and the other near the back pavilions, playground and splash pad. This park has about 3 picnic shelters with picnic tables under it and grills right outside of it. There is a decent full court basketball court there. It is in pretty good shape. The park also features a pretty nice splash pad, however, it was closed for the season during my visit. It has a bunch of colorful spray structures and benches along the fence that parents can sit on and watch their kids splash around. The playground is lined with wood chips and has more of your traditional equipment. The equipment is in excellent shape and includes a small jungle gym, rock climbing walls, monkey bars, a bank of swings with a couple of traditional swings, toddler swings and ADA swings, a small jungle gym with slides, and a set of pebble path pods. The play ground is fenced in to keep the little ones from running off and has benches along the inside perimeter of the fence to sit. The bathroom facility is right between the splash pad and playground area. It is nice as far as bathrooms goes and is connected to a picnic shelter on the side and has an uncovered patio area with picnic tables in front of it. Your will see green space for days here. A large portion of which is lighted. It is well maintained and is multi-purpose. It can be used for most any outdoor activity including a picnic, football, soccer, playing catch, field hockey, or flying a kite. Right behind the green space is a monster hill. I saw people using it to work out while I was there, more power to them. It would make for some awesome sledding after a snow. Near the front of the park is a skate park. It is small but nice. No bike allowed, only boards. They have a small maze like fence that is made to try to prevent people from bringing bike in. Some of the stuff in the park includes a pool, stairs, rails, ramps, and other stuff that I have no idea what they are. The walking trail here is a 1 mile loop and is one of the better trails that I have been on. It is well maintained and can be used for running, jogging or walking the dog. It goes around the park's green space and hill. This is a very nice Zionsville Park. It checks all the boxes of what you would want in a park. I like this park a lot. Some of the scenes felt like we went through them too quickly to get to see everything, but others you could really see all of the detail they put into it. The slaughter barn was very quick to get through- even when haunted houses aren't scary I like when they are big and you get to walk around in the spooky rooms they have set up. The haunted hay ride was the best part of the night by far. One thing none of us liked was that one of the characters that wander around to entertain guests who waiting in line, buying concessions, etc kept very quickly circling around everyone while pulling a wagon that had a duck caged in it. It couldn't even sit or get comfortable because it was constantly bracing for turns and bumps. A fake duck glued to the cage or no duck at all would have sufficed. Didn't do the slaughter barn because it honestly didn't look that appealing. The line was way longer for the hayride and $2 more. I could tell the attraction was the hayride here. This mural was chosen to honor Lincoln Park, which it overlooks and its significance to the community while providing an obvious visual impact for all to enjoy." It is in Witsken signature "color vomit" style and covers 266-square feet. It is Witsken's hope that the mural reminds people to come together while honoring Zionsville's history. The park across the street from the piece is rumored to be where President Lincoln actually stopped on his train route when he was giving addresses on his way to his inauguration in 1861. The mural depicts a portrait of President's Lincoln's face in a colorful/pop style with "Zionsville" across the bottom. It is all against a white background. This is a very eye catching mural and I like it a lot. It is visually appealing, artistically awesome and in excellent shape. Visiting this mural should be on the top of any public art hunter's list. It was designed and painted by local artist Koda Witsken who has a studio in Indy. She was selected to add her mural in May 2019 to the back of a building that stands at the intersection of Oak and 1st. The choice to create this abstract of color to present Lincoln has a connection to the location. The small park across the street was the former site of the local depot. That is the spot where Lincoln stopped in 1861 to speak to the folks of Zionsville while on his way from Illinois to Washington for his inauguration. The park has also been named after Lincoln. I really like the brightly colored shapes that are not blended yet fit together nicely like a jigsaw puzzle. The different colors provide the contours of his face while the negative space is left white. But even though there are unfinished/uncolorized portions of the painting, it is easy to identify the image. The portrait has a large cursive writing of Zionsville beneath the image. The color of the shirt also has A Lincoln painted as if it was his signature. Great selection to get the local art scene of Zionsville moving! Review #2643
