The ice cream is good and the location is great. The sales and service team working today were friendly and knowledgable and quick. There is parking in front and around back and outdoor seating. The ordering line backs out the door, so I think they could rope off a section inside that would allow easier entry and exit (like banks have). Nice for a summer day quick stop.

SO excited I finally got to try the hot spot of Polk City - a little saddened by my experience but overall tasty! Cashier wasn't enthusiastic about being at work but hey, we've all been there...however, my husbands & my orders got mixed & I just didn't go back to get it fixed...I genuinely was not bothered enough to have it fixed but, when asking for my "cookie dough" comet special - I asked for a small & when my husband asked for a Large she bit back so quickly,"It's one size!" I asked for cookie dough comet, comes w/hot fudge & cookie dough - to add toffee Heath & extra cookie dough. Hubs asked for cookie dough comet w/Reece's & white choc chip. Mine came with no hot fudge or extra cookie dough.. His came w/my extra cookie dough, hot fudge & no Reece's. Honestly would go again, will go back & correct in the future but yummy nevertheless.

My favorite ice cream place! Glad they're back open for the season. They had plenty of staff today so there wasn't even a line even though the place was packed.

Feels like summer time! This is the perfect spot to come after a full day spent at the lake. I got the peanut butter ice cream and was so happy with it. My friend got a concrete with cookie dough and was flabbergasted with the way cookie dough was in every bite! Bonus points for the doggie bowl of water on the patio!!!

The ice cream is good but the service was not. Not greeted at all once inside. My husband and I had to greet the girl at the register. She was on her phone under the counter and not paying attention. I told her it was our first time in and she did not seem to care and did not offer recommendations. The menu could use more explanation--we weren't sure on what a "comet" was--had to ask. There is no number system and the employees don't call out names. Instead they called out ice cream flavors and a lot of people were confused because they wouldn't know whose was whose or they forgot their order. The ambiance of The Creamery is minimal and going for a very neutral and clean look. Could use some music in the background. Not a lot of seating inside--just a bar top to sit at which everyone was standing up against waiting for their order. I hope next time is a better experience with service.

Finally a review from today! Stopped here on my way up to Ames from Des Moines for work. I'd heard some good things about this place and hadn't gotten over to try it so I made a small detour on how I would have normally come up. That detour was not a waste of time! I got their Ultimate Brownie. From what I was told, it was peanut butter ice cream with caramel swirls and brownie pieces. It was delicious and was some of the best ice cream I've had in a long time.

Found this little gem driving along dragon trail on our way to a hike! It was the perfect place to stop in and have a sweet treat on a hot day. The staff was very nice and helpful with selections. A must try!

I love how they limited 3 families inside but unfortunately this was not enforced. When we were inside there were 5 families crowding inside and not one employee spoke up. Other families did wait outside, they read the sign. The ice cream was average, the only stellar part was the root beer float. It is served with local root beer and you get to keep the rest of pop in the glass bottle. The ice cream cone was small but the price reflected that at $1. It was the perfect size and I didn't feel stuffed. My one recommendation would be for them to clean off their outside tables a bit more frequently. Not because of coronavirus but because ice cream gets messy with kids and warm weather.

There were SO many good flavors I wanted to try them all. The creamery was very busy (always a great sign), but the staff did a great job keeping their out the door line moving! The flavors that lit up my eyes were the puppy chow, monster cookie, salted caramel, brownie, and so many others. I ordered a waffle cone with the brownie ice cream that also had a peanut butter ice cream base with caramel swirls - yes it was amazing. The prices were reasonable, $4.50 for a waffle cone and 1 scoop of ice cream, and worth it! They have a little bit of indoor seating and a few tables outside. If all the tables are busy no worries, there's a park that is across the street with more spots to sit!

I've never…read morebeen here before but my husband and I ate dinner nearby so we decided to stop here for ice cream. When I saw all the different flavors they had, I had high hopes. I thought their flavors would be unique and wonderful like Black Cat in Des Moines, but I was very disappointed. I usually ask for samples of two different flavors before I make a decision, but after trying two different samples and not finding either one interesting, I asked for two more. I wasn't wowed by any of them, so I chose the one I thought was the strongest of all of them: Dutch Letter. It was ok but I was expecting a lot more of the almond extract flavor. It was very subtle. I didn't find it rich or creamy either. It tasted like an ice cream I could get at the grocery store if they had that flavor. It was nothing remarkable. The most objectionable thing to me was the cost of the scoop of ice cream. It was $5.99 for a regular scoop! My husband and I were shocked. We thought that surely for that price the scoops must be enormous, but alas, they were just average-sized. I don't know how they get away with charging that much, but the place was filled with people so they must be paying for it. The place was cute and a good number of tables but won't be back. We'll stick to Black Cat.

We rolled by it on our way home from a little day trip North today and decided to give it a try. There is no inside dining room. Just a walk up window and a pseudo-patio with a few picnic tables. Parking is tight, but there are a few adjacent spaces that can catch overflow if needed. I didn't know a lot about Cole's. A few pieces of Star Wars memorabilia, loud colored signs, a veterans mural and large battle cross on the storefront caught my eye. Being a veteran myself I decided to dig in a little bit and try to figure out what was going on with this place. The first thing I found... We were first timers, but people LOVE this place. There was a line. We were rubbernecking and watching food come out the window while waiting to order. The locals were friendly. More than once we heard "We've never had anything bad here. It's ALL good." Second. Cole's basically burned to the ground last year. The owner with support of the community of Slater rebuilt it. The third thing... Even more humbling for me than the story surrounding the rebuild. And the one that gave me the answer I was looking for about the veteran related pieces... The owner of Cole's (David Sturdy) named his restaurant after his son Brandon Cole Sturdy. Brandon joined the Marines and was lost to hostile fire in the Afghanistan War at the age of 19 on May 4, 2004. From this former sailor... Semper Fortis Marine. The food. We ordered a Cole's Super Tenderloin. Hand pounded and perfectly cooked. Topped with brisket, onion rings, dill pickles, and BBQ sauce. The Super Tenderloin was comboed out with some of the best onion rings I've ever had. Large. Whole onion rings...not minced. And again perfectly fried. The mound of shredded cheese is covering a boat of chili and hand cut fries hot out of the fryer. That and one scoop of hard chocolate ice cream in a bowl came to $27.50... Service at the window went well. The portions are HUGE. We split everything and were both more than full. If a little bit of a wait pisses you off... If you're not okay eating at a picnic table, in your car, or at a nearby park... This might not be the place for you. If you like good fair style food and ice cream... Grinders, various types of hot dogs, burgers, tenderloins, chicken strips, etc. Cyclones, hard pack ice cream, soft serve, banana splits and more.... See their Facebook page for a full menu. If you enjoy something new. Enjoy a short day trip. Enjoy time outside with your family on a beautiful day. This is a great spot. About seven weeks ago the owner made a post on Facebook that almost sounded like the restaurant's days might be numbered. Under it was a comment that added more detail. Like it may only be open on weekends for now... I know it was open today. And I know it would be a damn shame to lose another small town Iowa treasure like this with everything going on right now...

Famous for its American Tenderloin, Cole's also offers old-fashioned shakes made with real ice cream, and huge tacos with a pound of meat. The tenderloin $12/tax) is the star, a hand-pounded piece of meat so juicy and tender it almost melts in your mouth. The French fries are fried in a special fat and covered with herbs. The flavor of Cole's fried food tastes outstanding and the portion sizes are easily enough for two people. This is traditional Americana roadside fried food at its finest. Inside dining is limited to just a few tables, most people probably pick up their ice cream treats outside "to go" in the summer. Not really much here for people with specific dietary needs. It's just not that kind of place but they often try new items for the menu. Today's new item was tater tots with beef, onions, sprinkled with cheese. Sometimes you're just really hungry for this kind of food.
