a grilled cheese sandwich and potato chips

My parents, daughter and I were passing through Polk City and looking for lunch. We saw Reising Sun and it sounded good -- soup, sandwiches, coffee, ice cream. So, we went into the cute little shop and ordered. My mom got the egg salad and soup and the rest of us got patty melts. It took 35 minutes to get our food and the place wasn't very crowded. When I got my food, the top piece of bread was wet...like soggy, doughy. Weird for a sandwich that is fried on the griddle. The onions were still crunchy. My mom got an egg salad and the top of her bread was super wet as well. Like doughy. We were highly disappointed and didn't even finish our meal. We really wanted to like this cute shop, but we wouldn't eat here again.

I'd genuinely love to know which local roasters they source their beans from. What stands out most is how smooth the coffee is--there's absolutely no bitter aftertaste. Their honey brown sugar latte deserves special recognition. So many honey lattes either taste overly artificial or like the honey is barely there at all. Not this one. The flavors are perfectly balanced, and it's honestly one of the best coffee drinks I've ever had. I could drink gallons of it. The quality is fantastic and I've found myself thinking about that latte long after I've finished it. My only complaint is that I don't live closer. If I did, I'd probably be there every day.

The snickerdoodle was perfectly spiced and still had some coffee flavor. The mocha was delicious, certainly an occasional treat as it is more of a coffee milkshake than a coffee. We also ordered the mini apple cider donuts which were okay, they seemed to be plain donuts tossed in cinnamon sugar and the dough had a funny aftertaste. Overall they have a killer menu and a cute & homey sitting area and patio. With so many coffee and caffeine drinks to try- we'll be back!

I ordered the Pit Master Sandwich with a side of French onion soup (you get to choose a side with the sandwich). The sandwich was really good! The bread was buttery and soft, and the homemade croutons in the soup were clearly made from fresh bread. The French onion soup wasn't for me--it kind of tasted like acid reflux to me, so I gave it to my mom. She actually thought it was pretty good. The sandwich had perfectly balanced barbecue sauce and cheese, although I thought the barbecue sauce overpowered the cheese a bit. Next time, I'd probably order it without the cheese. The brisket was good, but I would've preferred a fattier cut because I think it would have been more flavorful. I also wasn't a fan of the Gouda since it didn't melt very well, but the other cheese on the sandwich was delicious. Overall, the food was incredible, and this place is an absolute MUST if you're in the area! I noticed they have around 78,000 DoorDash orders, and after eating here, I can definitely see why. I'll actually be coming back in a few days before I leave my vacation because there are so many other delicious items on the menu that I can't wait to try! Staff were also nice!
