Not only do they stock a wide variety of cheeses from all over the world, they also sell local artisan products as well (ex. A selection of breads and pastries from Breadhead, Salt City coffee beans, Sweet on Chocolate chocolate bars, etc). Staff is very knowledgeable about the cheeses. I had a personalized charcuterie board at an event I attended. All the cheese was of the highest quality. I particularly liked the brie. What a cool store! I can't believe more people don't know about this place. It's the ultimate place for charcuterie boards. I didn't go there for that, however, I saw several people picking up their orders. The quality and variety of cheeses on display is excellent. It cheeses me greatly to visit The Curd Nerd. The Curd Nerd is a specialty cheese and cured meats shop in Eastwood. It's a great place to try something new and to learn, a whole world of cheese in a small store front. Sheep, goat, cow, not-animal- they offer so many cheese varieties, and the staff will help you pick out just the right thing, be it for a crowd or just yourself. The grazing boxes or boards they offer are always a good bet. But if you want to create your own there are lots of options, from jams and confits, to crunchy options of nuts and biscuits, and many cured proteins. The Curd Nerd has offerings for cheese heads but also for your average people who want to learn more- they regularly host classes and food/wine pairings either at their store or with other area businesses. I am not especially cheese educated myself but I have a fun time going in and trying something unexpected...such as VERY convincing vegan cheeses (including ones with very cheesy funk). Or learning, oh hey, that's how I'm supposed to eat brie! The whole shop is crazy cute- the walls are yellow and white, and art and info of cheese hanging everywhere. I attended an event last night with a friend, all about Cheddar Cheese! They have a small back room and it was set up with tables, with our own personal cheese boards. We were offered apple cider, hard cider or water. Sarah, the owner and official "Curd Nerd", proceeded to tell us all about Cheddar, and a lot about cheese I didn't know. She is very knowledgeable and has a great sense of humor. After our "class" we shopped the store and received a discount on our purchases. We also tried a small sample of an apple jam/preserve that paired beautifully with the cheese, as well as spicy pecans, which were a bit spicy for me but my friend loved them. read more

The owners are the loveliest people you'll ever meet, and every staff member is more than happy to provide a recommendation if you're a cheese novice. They have no qualms about giving out samples, so you can try before you buy! I love a soft cheese and have a soft spot for fancy cheese shops. I am so delighted that there is now a place like this in Syracuse, especially one that's within such a short distance. The first time I ever stopped in was months ago. I was lured in by a social media post about a fancy imported alpine cheese that had flowers on the rind. I'm a simple person- tell me there's flowers and cheese and I'm there. This pretty piece of dairy was well worth the splurge. The subtle smokiness was perfect and extremely satisfying and worth savoring. I returned recently, and decided to treat myself to a cheesebox for lunch. I told Sarah what kinds of cheeses I liked and told her to surprise me, and she put together an arrangement for me. My two cheeses wound up being Oriskany and Appalachian, and both were excellent. The box also contained accutroments like a tart (cherry?) jelly, pine nuts, crackers, olives, and grapes. Though it's grazing food, it's perfectly filling. Total cost was around $14 for the box (though I picked up some extra local goodies as well.) I'm looking forward to going back for more trips. Do you love cheese? (Do you love cheese even if it does not love you back? They have Lactaid at the counter. Truly.) Do you want everything to make the adult lunchable of your dreams? This is definitely the place for you. It's a small shop in a neat corner spot with cold cases with pickles, olives, butters, fresh curds, and pairable drinks and shelves of wine, crackers, baked goods, nuts, and beans waiting for you to pair them up with a cheese, or maybe a few, from the case. Some of the prices for cheeses that are available elsewhere seem a little high but they definitely have the best selection of cheeses I've seen anywhere near here so far. There are a few reasons this one is missing a star: The layout means that if you have a question and aren't just going to jump straight for a specific cheese, you're going to feel like you're holding up others in the shop. Some more information on what might be suggested for common pairings would be helpful, as would a more traditional cheese-counter set-up where staff can see you over the case and more than one person could be helped at a time by multiple staff members present. The aforementioned price. I'm all for supporting local businesses but there were some cheeses here I've purchased within the last year in other non-chain, non-national establishments at half of the price they are available here. If the price comes with expertise, then I'm in - however, I asked for some help pairing a specific kind of apple and had cheddar suggested. This is another reason for that missing star. Yep, cheddar goes with apples - I was hoping to aim for something a little different and I mentioned that and provided a few examples. I wound up leaving with cheeses that were good but well within my knowledge and comfort range instead of trying something different. I was hoping to narrow down the selection, rather than needing to ask to try everything to find something new. I watched someone pick up a pre-ordered charcuterie plate and it looked great going out the door, so that seems like a valuable time-saver if you're hosting folks for a party or wine night. Proximity to a few other great shops makes this well worth the stop - it's even worth it as a destination trip. Maybe just research what you might want before you come in. read more

My wife and I stopped over at The Curd Nerd while visiting some of the local businesses in Eastwood. We were greeted as soon as we entered by owner Sarah. Sarah was a wealth of information and story telling about all the diverse cheeses. She gave us samples of all the cheeses we were curious about. We never felt rushed and she was able to answer questions and give us reconditions. We left with with a few different cheeses~ Manchego, Brie, Cheddar, and Fresh Mozzarella. All were delicious and top quality. We also purchased two different kinds of salami as well. The shop was also filled with local produce, goods, cheese products, books and such. Every time I come into this adorable place there are new things to try and see. The cheese selections are amazing and there is something in the case for everyone. The owner, Sarah, is amazing at suggesting cheeses for you after a few questions about your likes and dislikes. She's got cheese for the adventurous consumer as well as more mild selections for those just looking for some great snacks! It's charcuterie board heaven in here as there are lots of meats and pickings to buy to go with the wonderful cheeses. I absolutely love it in here. I'm slightly lactose intolerant and for some reason when I eat these cheeses my tummy isn't that angry at me. When can you ever go wrong with cheese? In my book, never. When the Curd Nerd opened I was so excited, finally a dedicated cheesemonger/shop in Syracuse!! Let me say, I'm still excited every time I step foot into the shop. Sara (head cheesemonger/owner) is always friendly, knowledgable and ready to hand out samples, her husband helps out when he is not working or taking classes and is just as friendly! The rest of the staff is kind and helpful. I have my favorites, but know I'll always walk out with a new favorite because of Sara and her staff. The cheese selection is wonderful and if they don't have what you want they will get it (or at least try), you can also order a cheese or charcuterie board for a special event - they do a great job. I can't wait to try their new cheese fondue! The Curd Nerd may look small, but there is a lot to explore between those walls. They carry a large selection of local and non-cheese products. Having lived in Switzerland for 20 years, I love all things cheese! Every year I struggle to find the right place to purchase authentic types of cheeses to make a fondue that taste like "home".
