I booked in advance for my haircut with the younger-theish woman stylist who had done a good job the first time I went there, even though I found the female stylist's attitude unfriendly and she was late in getting to me, never apologized and at one point I asked her if she was even really interested in doing my hair. She did an ok job so I booked her well in advance for a refresh cut at Christmas. She was over 40 minutes late from the 15-minute leeway I gave her from my original booked time. At one point I asked another hairstylist that wasn't busy if they had time to do my hair. Then she cut my hair so fast and with so little indifference, it was a terrible cut. Waaaay too short. And now I have the task of having to grow it out again. This woman needs to know she is in the service industry and needs to be professional about booking and keeping her appointments. She also has to drop the pout, drop the attitude, and drop feeling like she's doing you a big favor even doing anything with your hair. And instead of cutting so fast she needs to slow down and really think about what she is doing...because this last cut was HORRIBLE and by the time you see the damage she's done, it was cut so fast, she can't self-correct her mistakes. If I were the owner of the shop, I would not let her have a chair there anymore quite honestly. She is doing that business more harm than good with her attitude. read more

I hate this place I got my hair cut I ask to get three things done. I wanted to get my dead ends cut, layers, and curtain bangs. And the girl who I done my hair didn't not even do it properly And did not communicate anything to me. The bangs she gave me are so bad that it looks like she just cut bangs without knowing what I was talking about, my layers are so bad it doesn't blend at all. And finally she took over a good 5 inches off my hair. I haven't been able to even look in the mirror I paired $70 for something I hate myself over. This is a bad place and youll regret going here. I booked an appointment 10 days in advance, even chose from multiple available time slots but when I arrived 10 mins early today, the stylist said that she's overbooked and wont have time to start me "for awhile" if I can wait longer while she was just going to begin the hair of a client before me? Like No! I have no interest in sitting there for another 30 mins. Terrible service, who the hell cancels someone's hair appointment after they show up and wait 20 mins? What a joke. Don't go here. While the location is very convenient and the staff are friendly, after two years, I had to stop going there. I'm not going to name the hairdresser because I do like her as a person and she did cut/ style my hair for quite a while but I just found that she and most of the stylists were not with the times. Even though I pleaded with her, she would never use any styling utensils on me (or anyone else) because of the so-called damage they cause to the hair. I don't know, I have top quality utensils that I use regularly and there's no damage to my hair ... maybe that old school gold plated stuff but not the new and modern utensils that are out now. Rather, like a senior citizen, I was forced to sit under that hot dryer with curlers in my hair for close to an hour and, while the cut was good, the style was too old lady for me. I always had to go home, wash it again and then re-style it. It's not by any means an inexpensive salon either. What really turned me off is that (the last three times), I would make appointments ahead of time, arrive on time but would have to wait with wet hair for like 30 minutes while she finished with someone else. Sometimes my hair would be half cut but then she'd leave to quickly cut someone else's hair. The last time I was there, I told her that I was just going to leave (with wet hair); she knew I was upset but continued to go and cut some guy's hair. I just found it to be very disrespectful, especially given the price I was paying. Sorry, but I had to say adios after all that crap. read more

I have been going to this salon for AGES, I really adore the staff here they are not only friendly and helpful but they are accomodating. They do great cutting, coloring and treatments as well as some of the best aesthetic treatments in Etobicoke. Julie and Neelum are excellent Aestheticians. Somewhat pricey but competitive considering the incredible quality results and great customer service My only suggestion would be to get to know the schedule of who you want to book with because that can vary but the entire staff is highly capable and all do great jobs! read more

Went in with a picture of the style I wanted, but not only did she cut it wayyyyyyyyyy too short, no matter how many times I asked her to make sure to blow it in an outward style (like in the picture), she gave me an outdated, rolled under fluff ball style! Went in wanting a medium length, funky, rolled out style... came out looking like Amy's Mom (Kathy Bates) from "The Big Bang Theory" TV show!! Left very pissed off. I will never go back to this salon again. I was booked for a re-touch on my existing hi-lights (caramel colour) I won't mention the gentleman's name that did it but he suggested to go with a colour I already had and I trusted his decision. After my hair was rinsed off I was shocked when he removed the towel from my hair.... I could see it was more copper. So I thought it might look better once it got dried. It looked worse (IT HAS AN ORANGEY TINGE!) He asked me how I wanted my hair styled, I told him I DON'T LIKE MY HAIR STRAIGHT and that I wanted something curly since my hair is naturally curly and requested a blow dry with the curling iron be put through for soft waves. He totally did the opposite... blow dried my hair straight and put tons of hairspray in it without asking if I wanted hairspray. There seemed to be lack of communication and he seemed a little hard of hearing. I thought after blowdrying it he was going to put the curling iron in it but he said I was done. I requested that he put the curling iron through my hair. After another 15 mins I was finally done but I still did not like my hair. I just paid and left. read more

I asked for three things: My hair to be all one length, no layers and the back of my neck shaved. I got a Mom looking Bob, loads of layers, thinned out and my request to have the shave rejected THREE times. My hair is horrible, I will never be back. Literally RUINED my hair. Had an appointment for 12pm this past Sunday. Arrived early but waited until 12 to walk in as the doors were still partially shut. Walked in and someone asked if they can help me so I advised them that I had an appointment with Oxana at 12pm. This was my first time at this location so I did not know who Oxana was. She told me that Oxana had not come in yet and asked me to take a seat in the waiting area. At 12:20pm a woman approached me and another man who was waiting and asked who was next. I asked her if she was Oxana and she said no and walked away. She then asked the man to go with her. 5 minutes later, my phone starts to ring and I look at the call display and it shows The Cut Above. I go to the receptionist and asked if she was trying to call me and she asks are you Bonny? I said yes, I've been waiting since 12pm and was told to take a seat as Oxana is not in. I asked if Oxana had arrived and she said yes and walks over to her to tell her that I was here. Oxana then comes over to tell me she was expecting another one of her clients named Bonny and not me. She had already started working on another woman's hair at that point. She took me to the back to ask about what color I wanted. She mixed the color and gave it to another girl to apply. I am not sure if the girl who applied the color was new, but she got the dye on my cheeks on both sides of my face and did not wipe it off. I could not see as I was not seated in front of a mirror. The girl told me in 35mins Oxana would wash my hair out. 45mins later Oxana comes back and asks if I will be getting a haircut today. As I was already running late, I didn't bother with anything else and said no. She then asked the other girl to wash out my hair. After it was washed, Oxana asked if I wanted to just sit under the hairdryer as her next client had arrived. I said if its going to take awhile for my hair to dry sitting under the hairdryer then the blow dryer can be used. She said ok you can use my blow dryer to dry your hair and here are some brushes you can use. I was shocked that after everything that had already happened she wasn't willing to even dry my hair for me. As I started to dry my own hair, the girl which had applied the color and washed out my hair came to tell me that Oxana said if I was willing to wait another 15 minutes she will come and blow dry my hair. I said no thank you as it was already 2pm. After blowdrying my hair I noticed the dye on my cheeks and asked the receptionist if they had stain remover to remove it. No one had bothered to offer it to me to remove the dye or even attempted to remove it themselves. I was very disappointment and frustrated that first, it took 2hrs to have my hair colored, and second, my appointment was with Oxana yet she had done nothing for me. This was the worst service that I have ever received from a salon and I will definitely never go back. read more

Tatiana DOES NOT listen to her clients' requests! I went in the salon for an appointment on New Years Eve to lighten my black hair to a warm brown and have an inch taken off the bottom. $150 later I came out with the following: Hair that had the colour- lifting process and the very same shade as I had walked in was reapplied. I asked for no cutting around my face but she proceeded to do that anyway! Hair was blow dried under rather than out. Outdated blowout from the 90's) although I kept saying can you please blow dry it out! And she would reply " be patient" You are not Toni and Guy ( at least the 150 there is worth it) you are a salon at cloverdale mall. Employees are disgruntled with management and make no qualms about sharing that with clients.Thats how the appointment started and I should have known then that this was not going to go well. If you don't want to work on New Year's Eve then just don't commit...Thanks for ruining my hair by unnecessarily bleaching it and giving me the most outdated haircut and blow dry I've ever had!!! read more

Worst haircut I have ever had in my life. Do not let Hugh cut your hair if you are female. It looks like I now have a short long hair cut (hair in the front is shoulder length while hair in the back is 3 inches longer. Ummm, that's not layering. I will just have to grow this one out. This branch of the Cut Above is located in Etobicoke's Cloverdale Mall, a shopping centre notorious for it's popularity with the 65+ crowd. Because of that, it does tend to cater to the older folks, however, it still serves the purpose of a place to get a haircut. My mother had been there previously to get her hair styled for wedding and was extremely happy with the work Toni did for her. Based on her recommendation, I phoned in and was able to book an appointment for an hour later, not with Toni who was booked, but with Janet. Janet was a lovely woman in her mid-40s or so who understood when I said I wanted sideswept bangs and layers (You'd be surprised how many times that's been misinterpreted). The cut was nice, styled not with curlers like one of the previous commenters, but via a series a boar-bristle brushes wrapped in my hair while being blown dry. I've never had that before! The style ended up being rather nice if unfortunately stiff due to the hairspray spritzed all over before leaving. Wash, cut, and style was about $55 incl. tax and tip. Not the most I've ever paid for a cut, but a rather average price for a slightly above average cut. read more

I normally get my eyebrows done here, around once a month ($12 to get them threaded but they usually expect tips) and I would say for that price I would expect more to be done. Its just threading, no lotion, massage or anything after they are done. I know that not a lot of places do this, but for the price I would expect more. Also, they make your eyebrows thinner than you ask for, so make sure they understand what you want because sometimes they don't do what you exactly want. read more

I purchased a blow dryer from this store on July 15, 2014 - 17 days ago. It was an Avanti Ionic dryer and I purchased it for approx. $75 on sale. I used it at home a few times and was not happy with the way it worked. I found it to make my hair frizzy and not sleek, which is what I was expecting. Also, I noticed when it was on the highest heat setting it would smell like it was burning. When I purchased the dryer, the sales associates (2 older woman) specifically stated for me to keep the receipt and original packaging if I wanted to return it. Which I did. Nowhere on the receipt does it state the exchange/return policy. I was NOT told it would be exchange only/store credit after 14 days. This morning, 17 days later from purchase date, I went to return the dryer to the salon. The girl at the front desk told me it would have to be a store credit and when I requested refund, she said her manager would be in shortly and to come back as she was not authorized to issue a refund. I left my cell and she called me to let me know the manger was in. Also, when I was speaking with her she was looking for the sign that stated the exchange policy that was nowhere to be found. When I went back, I spoke with the owner/manager Richard. Magically, the store policy sign was up and he kept referring to it. That refunds are not possible, only store credits. He was rude and kept saying it was past the 14 day exchange policy so I was "lucky" to get a store credit. Give me a break! I told him that the receipt should have the policy on it, he laughed and said "no one does that". That he has never seen that. If he had to do that it would be too much information on the receipt. Well obviously this guy does not do any shopping because most retailers have their exchange policy on the receipt. He was talking down to me and was very unprofessional. Reluctantly I took the store credit. I was not thanked or apologized to, nothing. I have purchased many, many products from this store and to be treated this way was shocking. read more

I complimented the stylist on her hair cut which was very short and then she cut my hair all off to match hers. When I got upset she said "I thought you wanted it like mine." So I went back to The Cut Above at Cloverdale Mall and the owner supposedly fixed it. She did not colour my hair and at the end , I ended up with a cut that was blotchy and as a result, now you can see my grey at the back. I asked for a tapered angled bob and I got a hair cut that shows an eneven textured. I did not noticed but a few people at my work pointed it at me.they told me, "Judy, you have steps at the back, it is not feathered". She seems more preocupied that the hair dresser wasted the product than any other thing. And thenwhile she was doing my hair she said to me, " but if you are from the Lakeshore how are you here?"I told her that someone recomend me. I booked an appointment for 730 pm on a Monday night. I wanted a colour and cut. I arrived at the salon and was taken in quickly by the hairdressers' assistant. The stylist came over and asked what I was there for and proceeded to match the dye to my hair colour. She asked the assistant to continue putting dye in my hair. Once the dye was in my hair and the assistant asked how long to keep the colour in, the stylist came over and berated me. She asked "why would you book an appointment for 730 pm for a cut and colour." The person who answered the phone and scheduled the appointment should have known better! I was made to feel like a fool! I'm the customer going to your salon for the first time, would you not want me to feel comfortable about being there. Needless to say, I left the salon with dye in my hair and washed it out at home! Never ever will I go to that salon again. The stylist didn't even come over to ask why I was leaving. She continued with her other two clients. At one point she had the client blow dry her own hair! Maybe it was a blessing in disguise! read more

I have been getting my hair cut here for over 10 years and I keep coming back. I only gave it 4 out of 5 stars because some of the staff here are not as great as others. I have had 4 different hairdressers do my hair here and 3 were phenomenal and one was one of the worst haircuts I've ever had. My recommendation is to know who you want to cut your hair going in (Janet, Antoinette and Michelle are very good) but don't listen to the receptionist recommendation on who to cut your hair because they will just tell you whoever is available. I had my hair "styled" for an event. I was quoted $35 dollars and walked out paying $100. It was looking good at first, and I thought it was going to turn out really good. An hour passed - the stylist stopped to cut someone else's hair. Then came back to me and when it came to the second half of my hair, after waiting patiently for him to cut someone elses hair during my appointment time - he had no idea what he was doing - a turn for the worst, and as I had an event that night, outside the city I had no time to go somewhere else and get it fixed! He said it would set and look better in an hour. When I got home I waited for it to magically look better - it didnt - I took it all out and had to wash it and do it myself. Waste of time - waste of money. If I went to the event with my hair I would have looked like I had a disgusting mullet from 80s hair metal band. Would NOT recommend. read more
