Located kind of…read morein what felt like the middle of nowhere, there's not a lot of parking nearby but street parking is available and you may have to walk a bit. There is a small parking lot at the Jam Handy, but we weren't really sure if we could park there, even for the rehearsal the day before the wedding. The space is historic and you can read about it online, but it served as a sound stage for the Jam Handy Organization, which specialized in industrial films and filmstrips for General Motors and the United States Armed Forces. The venue itself is a bit rustic and industrial, and serves as a blank canvas for whatever vision you have for your event. In this case, it was a wedding with lots of beautiful flowers and floral arrangements and green plants everywhere. The bar when you entered was a great touch, and guests were able to have a glass of wine before moving to the ceremony room, which had a floral backdrop. This space was turned into the late night dance party area as well. There isn't much around this venue, so don't plan on a lot of bar hopping nearby before your event. In fact, most of the bars didn't open until 5 pm on Friday, the day of the wedding. The only other downfall of the venue was having to go downstairs to use the restroom. There is one gender neutral restroom on the main floor but it was occupied 99% of the time I tried the door. Just something to note for people with mobility issues, high heels, etc. I also noticed some uneven areas in the floors. Overall I had a great time at this venue and was impressed with how it was transformed from the rehearsal time to the wedding itself! Sometimes I think spots like this are a little too much of a blank space for someone like me, who lacks creative vision to turn a place like this into something really beautiful. However, with the right team and vision, it can be exceptional!

Laid-back energy all night For an amateur, I was shook when I knocked over the last two pins to help lead my partner and me to a sweet victory. And in a one-on-one round... I won again I also love that the game allows women to throw from the second line while men throw from the first--such a fun and fair twist. The customer service was friendly and welcoming, and they definitely card at the door--so be prepared! I also love that they still allow outside food or delivery--such a game changer. It is geared towards women and nonbinary individuals and created a safe and supportive environment for them to grow their dreams and aspirations in, but it is open to any and all who want to check it out! Anyone can have access to the main floor of BasBlue, where there is an INCREDIBLE cafe to get delicious drinks and food from. There is also a ton of seating for you to enjoy your food and drink and to cowork from as well. If you want to become a member, the upper floors are open to you with more collaborative and private spaces for you to enjoy! It is a non-profit organization and just a gloriously safe and intentionally-curated space to foster creativity and amazing vibes. I always feel so at peace and centered when I'm at BasBlue and love to take meetings from here as often as I can! It's located very close to the DIA, but only open during the weekdays. So pay attention to their hours and if you're looking for a great place to work from or are interested in learning more about what a membership here could bring, definitely check BasBlue out!!

This is a very nicely renovated mansion turned into a woman's club. Like a late 1800's gentleman's club, only for women. There is a locker room/workout room/nursing area, but I did not see them because I am not a woman. They have lectures and groups within the club. They have a full kitchen, and the usual food on offer seemed like you would expect at a starbucks or better. They have drinks, coffee, and wine. The wine was higher end. And they use an ordering app so members at different rooms of the club can order easily. Lots of rooms. Dining and lecture rooms, lounge and club type rooms, conference rooms. A large event room. All really nice. There are smaller serving bars on the second and third floors. Depending on age, annual membership is 600 or 1200 dollars. It looked great. Maybe it could have used more restrooms, but that is sort of reaching for something negative to say.

It was a night full of spells, rituals, having your horoscope read, palm reading, psychics, and even bone throwing. There was an area set up on the inside for vendors. TechTown is a shared office space and and entrepreneurship hub serving existing and startup…read morebusinesses in & around Detroit. It is affiliated with & partially run by Wayne State University. I like the vibe here. It's casual & community oriented. And the diversity of backgrounds & genders represented in it's membership, well, that makes this space stand out from the rest. The building itself is huge and divided into several floors. On the first floor you'll find casual co-working, some dedicated desks and tons of meeting rooms on the 1st floor. There's a large open kitchen and a pantry with fresh food for sale. Ping pong table & popcorn machine are a nice bonus. On 2nd through 5th floors you'll find the various sized private offices of nonprofit orgs, small businesses and larger orgs like the Ford Foundation and Henry Ford Medical. This is the place to run into people who are in business in Detroit, particularly folks at the intersection between academics and business. I am a co-working member, so I see this space primarily as a place to get good Wifi, use the printer and host client meetings, etc. It serves me well and it is a really great price for hot desk co-working. Two complaints: 1. There is an effort to help break the ice & introduce members to each other more often. This is an ongoing struggle, as it can feel very anonymous to work remotely at a co-working space. Right now there's a weekly popcorn & beer mingler on Friday afternoons and a bagel breakfast on Mondays. There's room for improvement in terms of creating real helpful connections between people though. 2. It can get crowded in the middle of the week and on days when a large group books the conference rooms. You'd be surprised how often a group of 40+ people hosts an event here. There's rarely a quiet day on the 1st floor. Overall this is a great space, good community and a nice taste of the Detroit business & nonprofit scene.
