I wish I could give this place more stars…read more My daughter started dance at the Y when she was in preschool. By 2nd grade she needed a different studio for several reasons. Checked out a few in town but I liked the non competitive atmosphere here. Jane (the owner) is the most personable manager you'd ever want to meet. The motto is that everyone is a star (and at the end of the year everyone gets a medal). Some kids do get trophies but not for competition reasons. They have programs for all level kids and everyone regardless of age, ambition, ability or socioeconomic level is treated equally. My daughter has been in intensive ballet for four years now and is in her second year of toe. She's given the drive and push she needs to succeed without creating an environment similar to certain reality show nightmares. She's worked her way onto performance team. It's something she's wanted since 2nd grade and she's happiest when she's there. She's just finished her second year on team. She is happiest when she's with her PT gang. If you want your child to enjoy himself/herself I suggest you go there. Everyone is equal and Jane and her daughter Meghan are available almost 24/7 via phone, email, txt, FB chat -- the only thing I haven't personally tried is FaceTime but I suspect if I needed to they'd make it happen (everyone deserves some down time). These ladies truly care about the whole student. What matters is that the focus isn't solely on how they dance. Taking the personal feelings of each student into account is part of the corner stone of what they hold near & dear to their teaching philosophy. Overall, after attending another dance school for a few years where I felt unwanted, I feel truly blessed to have come across CPA, when I was looking for a new dance school. That's when she pulled out the NON PROFIT card and said I should be doing everything we agreed on PLUS extra services for the same amount, if not less, because they're a non profit. She used the kids she teaches as an excuse to pay a contractor less. Disgusting. Stay away. The owner then went out of her way to leave me a negative review, which impacts my business and me making a living. We never worked together but she felt it necessary to leave a negative, dishonest review as if we worked together. Shameful behavior. I can't imagine what disgusting practices she implements when running her business and working with kids.

Absolutely hands down one of the most awesome, entertaining dance performances I have ever seen!…read more Yep, the Phunk Phenomenon-- including Junior Phunk (8-12 year olds) and Lil Phunk (6-13 year olds who perform at half-time dring Celtics games!!! ...and are my new personal heroes)-- performed at AIDS Walk Boston this year. And let me tell you, they rocked the place to the ground. They grooved, they shaked. They breakdanced. They did crazy isolations. One kid had a mohawk. One kid got up there and tore it up all by himself on stage! Backflips happened. Dancers came flying off the stage. I'm telling you, these kids can MOVE. Meanwhile, the crowd was going wild. We had about 15,000 people on the Hatch Shell that day, all dancing, cheering, smiling, and having a blast. Afterward, the feedback was amazing-- people LOVE the Phunk Phenomenon, and want them back. I just wish that I had joined the Phunk Phenomenon when I was 8 years old! Maybe then my "robot" would be more believable. Le sigh. I found out that trying to fit work outs into my full time work out schedule was not an easy thing to do. I didn't have the motivation to go to the gym after work, so I bought a groupon for studio poise and signed up for some classes (if I didn't go, I would just be wasting my own money). Two and a half years later, I'm an unlimited member, attending multiple classes a week (sometimes even multiple in one day). Here is why I love this place SO much: 1. The people: Danielle, the owner, and all her instructors are amazing. Not only do they give a killer workout, they care genuinely about all of the clients coming through the door. After attending only a few classes, they will know you by name. Not only are the instructors amazing, the other women that attend SP are amazing as well. My sister also attends a lot of classes with me, and we have made so many friends (of all ages) here. 2. The classes: First of all, there are SO many different classes, which I love. There is truly something for everyone - from mat classes, to barre, to kickboxing, zumba, and HIIT classes (with new classes being created an added), you'll never get bored. I take a different class every day. Each class is difficult in its own way, and you'll definitely feel like you've got your butt kicked (in a good way). The instructors always offer modifications throughout the class so hat you can adapt to your own fitness level. 3. The price point: When I was first looking around at studios, I couldn't find a better deal than Studio Poise. They the least expensive studio in the area, and you get SO much for your money. The unlimited membership is $150 per month (but you'll get $10 off if you attend 15 classes a month), and you can attend as many classes a month as you want. So if you're attending upwards of 30 classes a month (which is usually how many classes women with this membership take), that's only $5 per class. It's truly a steal. Studio Poise is my happy place, and you should definitely try it out if you live on the north shore!
