So... after years of struggling to find someone to prune our trees I decided to give Davey a call. In the past, I have had at least 4 other tree services out, that ultimately butchered our trees, and didn't do half the job they were supposed to. Sadly, the company we happily worked for years with was acquired by Davey Tree several years ago. Davey is very expensive and very slow to respond. They make you sign a big one-sided contract full of legalese and then they don't come through on time. I'm skeptical about the many treatments they have charged us thousands for and then the trees die anyway. When speaking with several neighbors while looking for recommendations for a new service, I found that several of them had previously used Davey or a company acquired by Davey, but found Davey's service unacceptable and have changed. I've had Davey Tree fertilize my lawn for the last 5 years, the lawn looks great and with proper watering and mowing the lawn at level 5 the results are great! I had Emmett out to fertilize my lawn on August 25 ,2025 , i was just starting to mow my lawn and he said not a problem finish it up and i'll wait until your done to fertilize the lawn! We are so glad that we chose the Davey Tree Expert Company. Bob came out to give an estimate and could not have been nicer. He was very knowledgeable and straight forward. We had three trees trimmed in the backyard (a huge maple, a river birch, and one more). They also trimmed a sergeant crab in the front. The crew came on time and were very professional. Towering over my backyard is a 250+ year old Ginkgo tree (Maidenhair Tree). Absolutely breathtaking- it is at least 8 feet around at the trunk and it provides a canopy of shade over my entire garden- framing it and the house with it's beautiful fan shaped leaves. So who do you call when the showpiece of your garden needs a trimming to remove some dead branches and to keep the frame and structure intact? Davey Tree Experts. Take my Ginkgo, for example. It's a female tree. What? You are not aware that there are male and female trees? Well Ginkgo's are dioecious- meaning they come in a male and female version. The challenge with the female version of this tree is that is produces fruit (for those of you who take ginkgo biloba to improve your memory- this is the tree that produces it) and while attractive- when the fruit falls to the ground, it smells like feces. Yep. That's right. Feces! And given the size of this tree- you can imagine what my yard smells like for two weeks in November- plus the fact that the fruit doesn't just hit the ground- it hits my deck, patio, windows, everywhere. Urrgh! But leave it to Davey to research a solution. They inject my tree every spring with a sort of "tree birth control" causing the tree to produce less or no fruit making me, my neighbors and my landscape company extremely happy! Trees are one of nature's gift's to us- providing shade in the summer to keep the house cool and branches for the snow to rest on in the Winter. My tree also houses a family of raccoons that entertains me on Summer nights as they scamper up and down this giant "jungle gym" and the squirrels that launch themselves between the trees in the yard keep my cats entertained year round. Ugh! Today the Davey truck blocked my driveway. I called the Burr Ridge Davey office and asked that the truck be moved and was blown off by the person who answered the phone. She basically told me to go out and find "the guys" and ask them to move the truck. Really??? Sounds like Davey's job to not park like jerks and then, if they do park like jerks, to move their truck when asked. Do not trust these "experts." For the second time in three years, "The Davey Tree Expert Company" of Burr Ridge has ruined blooms on my usually beautiful snow drift crab apple tree. The spraying for apple scab is (they tell us) three treatments over several weeks in the spring. Two years ago, Davey sent a technician who assured us that the solution would not harm the blossoms. The next day, the beautiful white blossoms began to shrivel and turn brown. I was in tears. We called Davey Tree and were told that the treatment couldn't have caused the problem, but they agreed to always call us before spraying. Last year, we stopped the technician before the second treatment was sprayed--again while the tree was in full bloom. (We had the last treatment in June of 2018 and avoided apple scab.). Last year my tree was beautiful! Yesterday, a technician came and sprayed my gloriously blooming snowdrift crab apple tree--without calling us so we could stop them! We found a bill between our front doors after the treatment had been done. We immediately called Davey Tree and were (again) assured that their arborist said that the treatment would not harm the blossoms. Today my blossoms are turning brown and wilting. I am so sad and angry. I can't believe that they did this again! Do not trust these "experts'! read more

I have a huge tree in my backyard that has given me shade through the years. I've noticed for a while that there's been a hole in the trunk and it only gets bigger. There's also dead branches that were dangerous because they hang over my house. I was concerned that tree services would tell me to have it removed because it was a hazard. I called Davey Tree and they sent out Kathy, the arborist, to assess my tree. She told me that it was a healthy tree for the most part and by trimming branches and using a natural fertilizer changes could be made.I strongly recommend using Davey Trees because they know the value of trees and will do what they can to save them. read more

We have a crabapple tree in the front yard that has not been looking too great for quite a few years. I had Davey Tree look at it and they said it had apple scab disease. I am revising my bad review. Finally received a call back from arborist. His explanation for not returning calls was that he did not get messages. He gave me his personal cell phone info and email for all future correspondences. He is making good on his promise of a free flowering tree to make up for the one that doesn't flower. Will write again when that planting is complete. Very disappointed in this company. Doesn't keep promises. Doesn't return calls. Promised they'd give me a new tree after the one they sold me wouldn't flower. Called them every year for 8 years complaining about it. Finally they agreed to give me a new tree. Asked Davey to trim a tree that was getting near the roof of the house. I now have a half dead tree. What ever branch Davey trimmed is now dead. The part of the tree away from the house, the non-trimmed side, is still green. The equipment Davey used must have spread a disease that killed each branch that was worked on by Davey. I have used Davey before, and this time around they proved why I continue to use them. I had a huge job. They provided a very fair estimate, showed up as promised, and did an excellent job. The crew obviously enjoys what they do, and it showed in how well they performed. They utilized a crew of 6 people, and brought in more people later in the day to make sure the job was finished. Some trees required a crane, and very tricky removal. There was no damage to my or my neighbor's house, and they took care to clean up afterwards. Highly recommended. read more

Be very cautious getting prices and quotes from this company! I was getting trees sprayed for a fungus and when I was given the price of $225.00, the consultant said I would need three and I specifically asked if this price was the total of the treatments and I was told yes. I now have bills for 675 to come out three times to spray and fertilize. When I called I was told I misunderstood. I NEVER would have agreed to pay someone this ridiculous amount of money for this. Ever! I told him this when he was there. Very misleading and very unprofessional! Never will use or refer to them. read more

We waited several MONTHS to have work completed by Davey Tree. They finally arrived today to trim our trees. They did NOT mention that our driveway needed to be clear in our phone confirmation. We had a high schooler parked under a branch and did not have the key to move the vehicle. Kevin Kramer started the conversation with "You knew we were coming today and it takes common sense to realize that no vehicles should be under the branches". I am not an aborist and do not know how the trees are trimmed or what equipment/techniques are utilized to trim trees. I'm just a dentist with not a lot of common sense , I guess. Davey Tree was hired to remove a branch from one of my backyard trees. Their crew did not tie back the cable and electric overhead lines. When the branch came down, so did the lines. The crew did rehang the wire, but failed to mention the incident to me. The cable company had to be called to rehang the wire correctly. Called the office to report the situation and they did not seem to care. I WOULD AVOID THIS NEGLIGENT COMPANY AT ALL COST! read more

We have used Davey many times since we bought our house from everything from pruning to emergency tree removal after a storm. They are a little pricey, but they do top notch work. We've worked with both Brad and Kevin. They always give you an upfront quote, are good at communicating and schedule service in an extremely timely manner.
