The Davey Tree Expert Company did it again. The snow on April 21 caused my beloved crab apple tree in our front yard to collapse under the weight of the snow. Looking out my window and seeing the gorgeous blossoms of the tree sprawled on the grass made my heart sink. The tree sits outside my home office window, and I look at it everyday...and love how Davey Tree brought it back to robust health after it was infected with crab apple scab several years ago. I love this tree in every season. My first call was to Jackson, the arborist at Davey Tree with whom I have been working for several years. I was not surprised to learn that his day had already been booked solid with customer calls about fallen branches and trees. "But call the office," he told me. "Let's see what they can do for you." I called and spoke with Jordan. She told me that she had another arborist, Josh, who would come out by lunchtime. Josh arrived on time and inspected the tree. He said just what I thought he might say. "It's in pretty rough shape," he told me. It was. It had with broken branches that took down so much of the front part of the tree. I am sure he could read the crestfallen look on my face. "But we're going to see what we can do," he said. He had a plan. "Look, I can have a crew come out here tomorrow morning. I will come too. Together, we will talk about how to save this tree for you. We'll be here first thing." I wanted to hug him. He obviously saw that while the tree was in distress, so was its owner. He understood, and did not make me feel the least bit sorry for loving this tree so much. He heard me and he sincerely wanted to help. I appreciated that more than I could ever say. The next morning, Josh arrived, along with the crew in a large truck equipped with a hungry wood chipper. Josh met with the crew as they walked around the tree and inspected it thoroughly. They decided how to proceed. They would cut away the branches they absolutely could not save. Then, they would use tree rope to brace the lower branches that were still attached, but could probably not survive stiff winds without being anchored to some of the higher branches. In the end you can see in the photos below, how the tree looked before the snow, how it appeared right after the snow, and how Davey Tree saved my beloved crab apple tree by taking the time necessary to determine how it could be done given the damage it sustained. I went back to work in the office after they left, looked out my window at the beautiful blossoms still clinging to the branches...and privately whispered one last thank you to Davey Tree for giving me this priceless gift. read more

They came to our house to cut the dead branches out of our trees and to lightly thin them out. Instead they chopped our trees up way too much. They brought down loads of healthy branches by the bunches and left the dead stuff. In the end they said that they didn't know they were supposed to get rid of the dead branches. It's beyond me why you would the dead branches anyway. So now they have to come out another day and do what they were supposed to do in the beginning. They obviously did not listen to instructions and did not use basic common sense. I would tell anyone to stay away from this company. read more

Davey does not know how to trim a tree, just hack it apart. The proof is in the picture. They get paid by DTE each year to trim the trees so chop off less. read more

Very good experience with Davey Tree Expert Company. I recently bought a house with a massive oak tree in the back yard along with all kinds of little trees whose branches were infringing upon my new neighbors homes and garages. Anthony came out and gave me multiple pricing plans to trim the oak tree, treat the oak, remove multiple trees and branches. The pricing was fair and a few weeks later, the guy came out and went to work (with notice -- he didntjust show up one day). The trimmed branches were piled neatly in the corner of the yard as agreed. Really appreciate the time Anthony spent explaining the different plans and how to keep my massive oak tree in good health. read more

The last couple of years service has progressively gotten worse. At the start of the year we advised Davey that this was the last opportunity for them to improve on things or we would go elsewhere. Mid way through the season, called on multiple issues called in and the weeds and crab grass are worse than ever....we are done. At this late stage we were advised that we not doing things on our end to help, are you serious? Even if that were the case we never received any form of notice or notes with any such details. To top that, Davey made 3 return trips to address problems and all failed to address Issues. I personally applied Roundup which resolved all issues In a test area. how of an effort are they putting in and what crap are they using to treat? -------- We've been happy with our replacement service and are already seeing a difference read more

I had a potential nightmare in the back yard of my 1948-built house, that we personally have lived in for 40 years. I had been trimming back branches on our huge backyard three, and while I'm home-handyman qualified to drop horizontal low limbs, this was a major event... tree has split 25' up, hanging over my yard and my neighbors. Davey gave me the best price out of four bids, dropped the two limbs I was most worried about skillfully and safely, and did some great pruning on the rest, I can sleep tonight knowing we are safe. Guys who trimmed our trees didn't knock on our door and ask if we were happy with the trimming. We weren't and they refused to come back into driveway and correct. For what we paid and for this lack of service and attention to customer - I'll be using another service next time. read more

Davey's Tree did an outstanding job of removing a tree trimming a tree and grinding a stump. Davey's Tree came with a bucket truck to trim and remove the pear tree ensuring a professional removal in an area where the tree was close to the house and neighbor's home. Davey's stump grinder was amazing. Pulverized the stump. The biggest most professional stump grinder available. Don't go elsewhere if you want to plant in the same area the tree was before. I contacted Davey 3 weeks ago to have them come out and look at a few of my trees in my backyard. Terry came out (Sales Arborist) - not sure this person really knows anything about the arborist profession. He was supposed to get back to me with pricing on removing a couple of trees and then replacing. I have received nothing for a follow-up! They obviously are not interested in getting business, so in this time when people are out of jobs/work, it seems so irresponsible and uncaring about customer service - I am appalled! Time to move on - do not waste your time contacting Davey Tree! read more

We have been using Davey for five years now. their service has always been professional and our lawn looks great. This year, after our first treatment, we noticed we had large patches of the lawn where the grass was dying. My husband was going to call them this morning to ask what was going on, only to discover Davey aerating and over seeding our lawn. When he went out to talk to them, they explained that someone had put what they believed to be Roundup in their fertilization tanks which affected the lawns they treated. They realized what happened, came out and are doing this service entirely free. This level of service goes above and beyond and Davey will have us as a customer for life. read more
