Davey's written Client Care Guarantee is just words on their work proposal in my judgment from recent experience. Their arborist disappeared before the work was finished, apparently without advising the crew foreman of specifically requested work remaining. The job, in addition to removing deadwood, was to adjust canopy minimum 14' clearance overhanging the street to comply with city ordinance, but they didn't even do that completely. The response of the crew foreman as he packed up to leave was, "It's not on the work order," and the full extent of the work for which the company was paid was not fulfilled. Used to be the best tree service available at the best price but seems to have fallen off a cliff with a change in personnel in my opinion. March 10: My displeasure was shared with Davey Tree Service via email directly to the arborist as well as via their client experience survey to no constructive effect before posting this review. The invitation to reach out to them in reply to this post is a disingenuous ploy so prospective clients think Davey staff cares enough to honor their written Client Care Guarantee. read more

Really good company. I have used them for years at my home. They come out walk with you on what needs to be done then they send you an estimate, normally within a day. You set up a time for the workers to come out. The workers were on time and did a great job. I don't feel like I need to follow them around. They do what they are suppose to and when all work is completed you do a walk around. The workers are efficient and they don't mess around. I highly recommend them. read more

A large tree (about 40 ft tall) fell over in one of our pastures. It fell on top of a fence but the limbs hit the ground in such a way that the tree was only slightly bent. I was concerned that a horse might rub on the tree or a high wind could cause the tree to shift demolishing the fence. We have two horses in that pasture that might escape if the fence got crushed by the tree. Zach with Davey Trees made some rearrangements in their schedule to remove our tree. When their crew arrived, I planned to watch them for a few minutes. However, I stayed the entire time they were there because I so fascinated with the process of removing the tree without causing further damage to the fence. Eddie and his team were so professional. This is a review for the Davey Service that covers West San Antonio. Called end set an appointment for the arborist (Kevin) to come and look at a 32 y/o red oak that the leaves had suddenly turned brown and looked like it had died. Kevin came and after assessment agreed that it was dead and later that evening sent an estimate for tree removal via email. I confirmed the removal and a date was set for the tree to be taken down. About a week or so later Kevin contacted me via email and informed me that they could actually do the job earlier than originally expected and we agreed to the date change. The Davey team arrived on time, introduced themselves and went to work. The tree was taken down and the yard cleaned within 4 or so hours. They had me check everything prior leaving to to make sure it met my expectations. Later that evening Kevin emailed me in follow up and asked if I wanted him to come out and recheck the job site; or to answer any concerns or questions that I might have. Very pleased with the work Davey did. They were all professional, and I felt like the total cost was inline with other tree work I have had in the past, and seemed like a good value. Had multiple trees trimmed including a tall palm by Eddie and his team after a consultation with Kevin Lamb. Great job and well priced! Used their riggings to climb and trim the palm and an oak that extended over my neighbor's property. Fast, very thorough, respectful of the yard, cleaned up all trimmings very well, and blew all leaves and ground up all trimmings and debris. Eddie is a great team leader and personable. Davey did a considerable amount of work on my property back in June, removing almost an entire group of live oaks in my front yard, removing a hackberry tree (with a broken limb) in my back yard, plus general pruning and lifting of other trees in the back yard area. Kevin, the gentleman (and arborist) who came to my home to provide the estimate, arrived at the agreed upon date and time. While this may not seem like a major deal, several other companies with whom I had scheduled appointments never bothered to show up or call. Kevin looked things over and supplied a very reasonably priced and comprehensive estimate almost immediately. The crews started work within a matter of days and did their utmost to provide a superior job. They worked very professionally and carefully, ensuring that no limbs came down on my house or on my neighbor's property. Kevin dropped by several times to check on things and to ask if I had any questions or concerns. He also contacted me toward the end of the job to ask if I had any requests for last minute touch-up work, which I did. The crews likewise handled these tasks as they had the entire job, with skill, diligence, thoroughness, and a genuine desire to ensure a happy customer. The entire experience with Davey was top notch -- from working with Kevin initially to the final inspection and clean-up. Zachary Lenery arrived at my home on 8/3/2021 and explained how the arborists work. He explained what would be done and added this information to the proposal sheet. He gave me a date all services would be completed. The team came about 11:30 a.m. on the date assigned and finished the work timely. They were professional and friendly. Although I had an estimate done; Davey's Tree Experts did not require an upfront payment. I'll get an invoice, which I will be happy to pay. The team asked me to ensure that all the work I was estimated for was complete. Tree limbs were hanging very low as well as growing over into my neighbor's driveway and the sidewalk. Do not use Davey Tree Service in San Antonio! Gave me a quote and then I received a bill for $300 more! Showed me an unsigned proposal (I did not sign it) that was sent after the bill! And they left a huge limb and debris on my roof. If using, make sure to get a quote in writing with all parties signed off on. Be home to inspect the work and clean up job! Overpriced!! read more

Not only did Mr. Presta take the time to listen to my concerns, but he gave me the details and data that I needed in order to negotiate a reasonable compromise with a neighbor. If Davey's Tree Expert and Mr. Presta had responded so promptly and professionally, and I might not have been able to save my tree. We have a certified arborist come and check out an oak that was surrounded by an old deck, that we are now replacing with a new deck. We were concerned about its health. We live on 7 acres and are surrounded by oaks that he pointed out and identified as different varieties. There are several very large oaks surrounding our barn in need of trimming. He pointed out work that needed to be done now and others that could and probably should wait for spring. I didn't feel like he was pushing services and gave fair estimates. The most important thing I liked was his knowledge. He knew the varieties and information about them that made the stroll to different areas really interesting and exciting. DO NOT USE Davey Tree in San Antonio. Davey's corporate leadership is committed to emergency response, NOT the average customer looking to trim a few tree limbs. That means that no matter how far in advance you schedule service, you will get bumped if they receive an insurance claim the day of your service. You are NOT their number one priority.
