Always a pleasure to stop by the Dayton Market! We especially like the Cheese Place and Warfels. Warfels toffee is the best and the variety of cheeses at the Cheese Place is awesome. Our favorites are butter cheese and farmers cheese. The bulk candies are great too, specifically the nonpareils and lemon candies. Green apple candies pretty good too!! read more

I really love this market. There are many small shops inside and they each sell something different and they're connected. There are also a few *restaurants* and they are very reasonably priced. My favorite place to go to when there is the Cheese Place and Hanks BBQ. read more

Unfortunately we did not make it to this market until our last day in town while staying at Massanutten. Little bit of everything good coffee, baked goods, Amish foods, cheese shop, meat market, BBQ restaurant and lots of craft shops. Baked goods from the local Mennonite community are delicious- my family loves the sugar cookies. The 'Cheese Shop' has a wide array of bagged candy and snacks- I'd be surprised if you couldn't find something you liked. There's a kitchen store, a toy store, a place to get coffee drinks which has a surprisingly extensive menu, and a place to get soft pretzels- you will not regret purchasing one!! There is a restaurant (Hanks) where you can get delicious BBQ. Adjacent is great beef jerky and the local butcher who sells excellent chicken salad. There are other small stores that I'm failing to mention that are also worth popping in. The greatest thing about the Dayton Farmer's Market is that you are supporting local hardworking individuals when you shop there. It is a come as you are destination that is truly unique to Dayton, VA- a must see for anyone visiting the area. read more

On our way to a college reunion weekend in Shenandoah, we made a stop here to pick up "provisions" to share with our friends. From the beef jerky (Jim Melton's) to assorted cakes and pastries (Country Village Bake Shop) fresh cheeses, all natural chips 'n salsa and old fashioned candy (The Cheese Shop) there was something for everyone! Everyone was duly impressed and enjoyed our selections. Definitely worth a visit!! read more

A great little shopping mall. Lots of local crafts and food. Some junk too, but that's to be expected. Amish jellies, jams, pickles, etc. in a couple different stores. Cheese and chocolates! I could resist getting some fudge and toffee. A small food court. I saw a bakery, pretzels, and BBQ. Maybe others. A lovely little toy store. Lots of parking. Prices were fair for most items leaning toward the higher end. read more

After the "Amish Wal-Mart" comment about the Harrisonburg Farmer's Market, I had to write a rejoinder for the Dayton Farmer's Market just over the hill. Compared to the HBG farmer's market, Dayton is only open Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, with the exception of late 4th quarter when they are open more days of the week for holiday shoppers. The Dayton Farmer's Market has a great toy store, excellent Mennonite bakery, a bulk food / candy store, a butcher shop, a restaurant, a kitchenwares store that sells many hard-to-find items that BB&B won't carry, and a number of other small, craft and gift shops. On Saturdays, you'll often see buggies tied up outside the front door as the Mennonite families from the surrounding areas come to shop and work at the market. It makes for a nice little walk, especially if you're looking for something unique. Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, you can hit both markets back to back and it's a quick drive right between the two if you go up over the hill behind the main Post Office. It's like a farmer's market wormhole! read more

Fantastic! We were visiting in the area and wanted to do something different. We went here, and had the best soft pretzels and fruit smoothies. We walked around and every shop keeper gave samples of anything we wanted. We came out with jars of jams and jellies. Many of the products were sugar free. We got a variety of homemade cheeses. Great place to visit if you're in the Harrisonburg/Bridgewater area. Very unique handmade crafts, food, cheeses, bakeries, etc made from the local Mennonite community. The far right features unique gift shops with several primitive items, local artisan crafts, pottery, and paintings, and gifts. The left of the shops feature delicious food from a cheese shop, local butcher, chocolate shop, and bakery. Hank's BBQ has a small store their with delicious BBQ. See reviews for Hank's and The Cheese shop for more details! Bring cash as some shops do not take credit cards. Definitely a fun place to kill 2-3 hours seeing what Dayton's local shops have to offer. read more

Ok so stopped by for first time this week. They had a nice spice and cookware selection. I must say when I stopped by butcher I wasn't impressed so much but after taking to them I thought I buy some meats to sample. The beef is steroid free grass fed I got 1/2 cut sirloin for kids and 3/4 cut rib eye for wife and I. Just finished grilling them up and they where amazing. I tried many different natural beef providers up and down 81 in va and so far this has been absolutely the best I ever ate. Going try the chicken breast tomorrow and will be back again! read more

OK place was not really impressed . Lancaster/Bird in Hand Pa is much better . No bakery onsite goods are shipped in makes them "not as fresh". The "meat market" didn't look very good either. I did like the little kitchen store & the clock shop so the trip wasn't a total bust. We drove 150 miles to check this place out . Most likely won't go back. read more

Dayton Market is a wonderful place! Books of Merit has a wonderful collection of great children's literature (and helpful staff) and the new toy store with a preponderance of Doug and Melissa quality toys and games is outstanding, again with helpful staff. You will find bulk foods in small packages which will encourage experimentation with unfamiliar foods: there is a variety of flour, rice, cheese, candies, and lots of food items that I wasn't sure how to use or what they were! The bakery has good breads and pies and the kitchen store is where I first found measurers for a dash, a smidgen, and a pinch. And you can't beat Jim Melton's made-on-site beef jerky, no preservatives, and until recently available only at the market (he now ships). Stop by and have lunch of generous sandwiches or mac and cheese. And these are just my favorite shops, there are more. Open only Thursday through Saturday except at holiday time when they may open longer or other days as well. read more
