I got Oscar last month; he's a two-year-old rescue who's not great with strangers, and as a result, Petco wouldn't take him and recommended an animal hospital that would muzzle him in order to groom him. I instead reached out to the Debonair Dog on Facebook and Fran (the owner) responded immediately, even though they were closed that day. She assured me that they handle scared/territorial dogs all the time and was able to give me a timely appointment for the upcoming week. Everyone I spoke with from this company was so helpful, patient, and kind, and after a few hours, Oscar came home looking clean and well-groomed. They also took care of the matting on his face and gave him a cute bandana, all for a very reasonable price. SHADY PRACTICES! I called in to Debonair dog to get a price on grooming my dog Sammy, they asked his temperament and what kind of dog, I told them very loving and affectionate and never aggressive, he's a husky/shepherd mix and I needed him bathed and his nails clipped. I was quoted $60 which is more than I usually pay elsewhere but wanted to try this place cause my daughter recommended them. I got an appointment for a week later and looked forward to it all week. I arrived with Sammy and was greeted by Erica, who took Sammy inside after 30 seconds of meeting him and gave me an index card, I filled it out with all my info and Erica came back out, she then started with what sounded like a set up, she said she would call 15 minutes before pick up to give me the price. I told her I was already quoted $60 and she said depending on temperament and if they need help clipping his nails it could go up, I got upset and started to get a little loud because I was excited and she got snotty and said don't raise your voice at me, I said I wasn't raising my voice at her I'm just Italian and get excited and that I didn't want to get robbed.she said she was Italian to so not to try her, I said I wasn't looking for a fight and I never had a problem at my normal groomer Pete from Wags and Tails and he's $15 less, she gave me, "the customer" more lip and attitude so I asked for my dog back and left. Erica aggravated me and ruined my day, I would never recommend them. Great reviews don't always ring true, sometimes they're fake and put up by workers and friends of workers. To start off, my dog has always been blind, and now has no eyes. When he started going to the groomer, he used to be very scared, anxious, and would snap. But Fran (the owner) and the rest of her staff have been so amazing with him, and they treat all dogs there so well. My dog is no longer scared and anxious, and he always looks and smells great afterwards. Polo is a peak who has a couple of groomers that had left him with deep cuts awful, and that is when he is sedated. Granted he isn't the easiest dog to groom. Our 90 lb.16 year old Labradoodle (Biscuit) is a diabetic, almost blind and can hardly hear. She is very insecure because of loss of these senses and it manifests itself with separation anxiety issues. Notwithstanding, Fran and her team welcome Biscuit and are wonderful with her. We cannot say enough. We are very grateful that they treat our dog with extra special care and understanding - that was our primary concern. But the bonus is that their grooming work is wonderful as well and at a very reasonable cost. We travel from Centereach to Middle Island and would not take Biscuit to any other groomert.
