I'd like to give -5 stars. Let me start by saying that I have gone to this salon since I was a…read moreteenager in 2004. On March 30th, I had an appointment with a hairdresser at this salon that I've never gone to before. My hair was ginger and a few inches below shoulder-length with some uneven parts toward the right side by my ear, due to growing in after a bleach break-off in August 2020. My hair was not significantly damaged, which is important to note. I asked for chocolate brown hair and a shoulder-length cut. I showed the hairstylist the reference photo I had and then agreed on the level of brown I'd like to go to. While she applied the dye to my hair, she mentioned that she added "violet" into the mix for undertones. I was confused but she assured me it'd be fine, so we continued. During the haircut, I told her shoulder-length was where I'd like to go. Because of the shorter pieces on the right side of my hair, she insisted that the hair should be cut to the nape of the neck. I begrudgingly agreed, thinking that the length wouldn't be horrible and that all my hair would at least be somewhat even. My hair was cut while wet and then she made a comment that I have "different lengths of hair" throughout my head. I agreed that I had different lengths, but I specifically told her not to touch those pieces and to just give me one length, as to allow those pieces to catch up and be trimmed in the future. She then began to hack away at pieces on the top of my head, and I became anxious and scared because of how short it was looking. Then, she began cutting off what she considered to be "damaged" pieces and I started to cry. I cried for about ten minutes. Not once did she stop or ask me why I was upset. Instead, she insisted that my hair was so damaged, she absolutely had to cut it off. At the end of the haircut, my hair was blow dried and then I had a complete panic attack. My hair color looked maroon and actually purple at the roots, and the haircut looked like a cross between a mullet and a pixie. I was horrified and said flat out that I hated it. While crying, the hairstylist seemed more concerned with selling me product than actually caring. I went home hysterical and couldn't look in the mirror because I felt ugly. I also received very negative criticism from family and close friends, all of which were honest about how awful the haircut was. Like I said, it was choppy, uneven, and way too short. I called the salon that night, furious, and told the receptionist my predicament. She was sympathetic and said she would pass along the information. I didn't hear anything the next day, so I called again. I eventually received a call back from the owner, who said she'd "fix it." I went back on March 31st and the owner personally said she would take care of it. I told her how much I hated the hair color and that the haircut made me feel hideous. I told her my self-confidence was ruined and that I never told the hairdresser to cut it that short or to give me that particular hairstyle. Immediately, the owner told me, "I spoke with [the hairstylist] and she said she cut it that way because it was so damaged." There are so many things wrong with that. #1, I did NOT ASK for her to cut my hair that short, I do not care how damaged my hair looked, as you do not start hacking away at pieces that you think shouldn't be there without asking me first. #2, my hair was not damaged to the degree that Artisan's wants you to think it is. My hair has never snapped off while brushing it, nor has it ever melted away after washing it with shampoo. So, Artisan's way of fixing my hair included washing my hair to fade the hair dye (seriously), and then giving me a protein treatment. The owner asked, "So what was your thought process with dyeing your own hair?" Again, we were back to putting the blame on me entirely because my hair was previously dyed. I told her that dyeing my own hair in the past has nothing to do with the haircut her employee gave me. The owner then put in the protein treatment and gave me a blow-out that looked like an old lady bouffant, and I began to cry again. The owner said, "I know, I know. As women, why do we do the things we do to our hair?" (This was in reference to my previous dye job, yet again). I raised my voice and said that I didn't do this to my hair - her employee did. The owner then said, "She told me she talked with you every step of the way." I very adamantly told her she was wrong and that the hairdresser did not talk with me at all during this process. So, I left still crying and was given a refund for the cut only (the hair color looked as it had previously did, just faded a bit). Do not go to this salon unless you're seeing Peggy for curly hair or Iris for everything else. I ended up having to get my hair dyed almost black and purchased $2,000 worth of extensions from another salon. Artisan's makes excuses for crappy service/work and does not take responsibility for any mistakes.

When I reached out, I was told my membership had lapsed, but I still had 10 prepaid services on my account. They asked if I wanted to reinstate my membership, and I said I wasn't sure. I scheduled appointments to use the services I had already paid for, but after my first visit, a manager told me that unless I reinstated my membership, I would have to pay full price and could not use my remaining packages--valued at over $1,000. This was very upsetting and felt misleading, especially since I wasn't informed of this beforehand. It also felt like pressure to renew a membership I wasn't sure about. I'm sharing this so others are aware. Unfortunately, I will not be renewing my membership after this experience

10/1/21 I have to…read morebe honest- no one can top my regular therapist at a different location. My massage was just ok. Nothing against the therapist. Because my loyalty lies with another therapist it was going to be hard to measure up from the get go. My reason for lower review is: The size of the rooms are so small it's claustrophobic. I asked for a scalp massage and did not get one. The massage also felt very rushed too. I accidentally left my massage oil on the counter in the room and left without it. I didn't realize I had left it until I returned home (an hour drive) There was no effort made to return my oil to me- it was a small bottle I fragranced with lavender and orange oil. I was in the area for a good hour and the therapist made no effort to try to catch me to return it. No one contacted me either. I know it was my fault but I felt like no one was looking out for me. After the massage, the therapist offered me water and stood outside the room to say goodbye (in my native hand and stone the therapist brings water automatically and they escort you to the lobby door and end the service nicely) The availability is poor at this Hand and Stone too. It takes weeks to even get an appointment for a massage. I know they are short staffed. I would rather flex my schedule and drive the distance to go to my regular therapist to be guaranteed an awesome massage, than come back here for a mediocre experience. My credits are paid for but these services still cost me a considerable amount of money. I'm glad I'm ending my membership, the price is going up again. I started when it was 49.95 or 49.99. It has risen over the years to around69.95. If you are new to Hand and Stone you may really enjoy massages here. Since I'm pretty established- this was a miss for me.
