How can I give minus 5 stars. Carlos did some work on a bathroom remodel in our house and we had to have a lot of the work redone. He did not respond when we informed him of all of the problems with his work. The job took months longer than predicted and he rarely if ever checked on the progress. Do NOT hire him. read more

I am giving literally one star because I have to ‍ We had an appointment today with Carlos to look at our property and possibly give us an estimate for 2 projects we would like to get done. Today is also the SECOND time he didn't show up. No text and / or call to apologize or to explain himself. I explicitly asked if this company can do the jobs we are looking for (building a privacy fence AND a newly build screened in deck) & he said: "... yes of course, that's what they do ..." We have always been more interested to give any kind of job to a small shop / business owner; especially these days when business during a pandemic is not guaranteed! Decksperts completed a deck project for me in 2020. It was in the middle of the pandemic, when there were severe lumber shortages. Nevertheless, the project was ultimately completed with solid workmanship. This year, I had them come back to rebuild a set of steps. While my project got done and looks great Carlos did NOTHING but assist in tearing out my old deck. I decided to give him a chance even with a few bad reviews because I called numerous references and he was recommended by Menards staff. Before I even started the project I asked if he employed or used subcontractors. I was assured they were employees. Well needless to say they were subcontractors and I don't think Carlos understands the difference. Let me say that the contractors he used were dependable, easy to work with and did good work. But Carlos rarely checked on the project. The only time he showed up was when he wanted money. Additionally, the day the concrete was to be poured for the patio we added, he was at the lake, didn't order enough concrete and I had to pay the contractor vs Carlos paying them when I had already provided the money for the concrete days before. Yes, I took that amount off my final total but I had to cover $2400 that day otherwise the concrete would not have been delivered. As my wife likes to state, I was the best project manager as I worked with the contractors and managed the project myself. The concrete company had a hard time getting in contact with him, etc. He's all about the money and that's it. The last day that he came to get his check, he saw his concrete subcontractor across the street at my neighbor's and went over there and threw a fit in front of my neighbor because he considered these SUBCONTRACTORS only to be able to work for him. How embarrassing. He tried to tell me that his contractors worked for him but I gave him a lesson in the difference between employees and contractors. I would stay away from him. I would use his contractors again but not him and would never recommend. He earned thousands of dollars from us for doing NOTHING but got it because we signed a contract and honor our commitments. Also, be careful as he goes by Decksperts but then likes to change it to "Outdoor Living Experts".....Not really sure which is accurate. read more

I signed a contract & paid a sizeable deposit in August 2022. It took until January 2023 for the project to even break ground. I paid a deposit for a 2nd story deck, patio, and aluminum fencing. It's now June 2023 and the deck still doesn't have stairs or railing and the patio/fencing were never started. Carlos has not communicated with me about the project since April 2023, despite multiple requests for the project to be completed or a refund of the deposit (less completed portion). I received next to no updates on the project timeline without reaching out and had to make multiple threats to contact the BBB and attorneys (which I have now done). He did not respond to the BBB complaint. The work completed is good work, but I've had to fight tooth & nail just to get what's completed finished. Now I'm out a large sum of money and am struggling to find others to complete the project. Completely unprofessional and poor business practice! read more

If I could leave zero stars, I would. Carlos is unprofessional and does not deliver on any promises. Work took 5 times longer to complete than my quote. Many days, the crew simply didn't show up, and Carlos could not be reached. Every time workers did come, they were new men who didn't know what was going on. Many smoked and littered their cigarette butts all over my property along with hundreds of nails and screws and other trash. When Carlos finally showed up to help finish the job, he proved himself to be as incompetent and unconcerned about quality work as his employees. The "completed" work is shoddy with gaps, crooked nails and screws, and splintering wood with patch jobs that are an eye sore, and a danger. It is clear that Carlos knows very little about owning a business and nothing at all about carpentry. Worst money I've ever spent. read more
