Last days for my Mom, at Denver Hospice were comforting,full of love.She received quality care.

Denver Hospice has been phenomenal in every area. We are the blessed ones. The entire staff, finest in the business, have gone above and beyond to care for our mother. Denver Hospice was so very attentive to my father who just passed yesterday. They provided a good deal of information about in home care with nurses coming to the house 4 times over the final 6 days of his life. Each nurse was compassionate, caring and helpful. I see some negative reviews, while I cannot necessary defend the institution (because I don't know enough), I will absolutely stand behind the people who work at Denver Hospice as they selflessly work with those nearing their end and their families to make their last days more comfortable. read more

Very bad experience, stay away from this place. This company took it a it there own hands to put my husband on there home care . They removed him from a perfect home health care service we were very happy with them . We told them we don't want to be taken off his current home care , they did it anyway. There service is bad ,they lie and you can't ever get information from them. We asked to be taken off and be put back on my husbands previous home care. They told us the company was shutdown. 1. I thought that the Denver Hospice was going to make things easier for me, but they just added to my problems. I was talking to someone there nearly every day the last 3 weeks my mother was alive. They are really bad at returning calls. I would have to call more than once to talk to anybody. 2. The nurse that was visiting my mother in her home quit suddenly and I was not notified. I have to wonder how bad things are there that people quit without notice. I had to call four times to get another nurse to visit my mother. 3. A social worker was supposed to find a place so that my mother could move out of her house. After two weeks, the social worker only found one place and it was not suitable. 4. They seemed to be very disorganized. All the people I dealt with were slow and not very competent. read more

So my wife was in Denver hospice last year at 37 years old. She got out but unfortunately was put back on by her doctor's. So naturally she tried to go back to Denver but they denied. She has insurance. She was put on it for a reason. denver DENIED her simply because they don't want her... YUP. No other valid reason just because they don't feel like it. So if you want your family member to be treated like trash or drug addict this is the perfect crappy place!! read more

Worst hospice in Metro Denver area, they discharged my mother from hospice and she died a week later, nurses never communicated with me. I dont recommend them. My mother was fragile and they didnt assess accurately, they discharged her without giving me, her POA notice and then she died literally a week later. read more

Dealing with situations in which most patients are at end of life (which is what my family needed The Denver Hospice for) is a delicate job. My mother took a sudden turn overnight, and I called her oncologist who called the Denver hospice and they were at our door in less than two hours!! I'm so disappointed that I don't remember her name because I would love to give her a personal shout out.... But the lady who came to our house was amazing!! She delicately and professionally explained to us my mom's situation and that she had hours to live and educated us on how to administer medication. That was delivered to our house within hours as well. With her knowledge and expertise which we trusted, it gave us time to gather all the friends and family around my mom that we could so that her last moments on earth, she was surrounded by love and felt no pain. The hospice nurse was correct and my mom passed that evening... But again thanks to them all coming together to make everything happen so fast and handled with such care and compassion that my mom's last day on earth was spent with no pain and surrounded by love! Losing a loved one is never easy... and losing my mom was the hardest thing I've gone through but people in our journey that helped us along the way like The Denver Hospice helped make things a little easier. I truly felt like this lady cared and understood our grief and handled us with such compassion. I just wanted to say thank you! read more

Seems odd to review a Hospice. But I wanted to give the Denver Hospice many thanks for helping my mom and our family in the time of need. We were recommended to use the Denver Hospice from my mom's doctors office, and everything was happening so quickly we didn't have time to review many locations. When my mom's hospice nurse Sophie came to our house she was very compassionate and was able to explain things to us in layman terms. She comforted my mom and we appreciated everything. When my mom had an adverse reaction to a medication, they changed things right away. I am thankful for this team and appreciate the level of care and compassion that was provided to our family. read more

I won't include pictures to go along with my review but I wanted to give a compliment to The Denver Hospice for how they rendered as much care as possible to my sick family member. These people have a tough job, and if it wasn't tough before meeting me, I probably made it tough. It's hard to transition your loved ones to comfort care until their passing. Selfishly, we want our loved ones to live forever but we know that's not the way life goes. So that's where Denver Hospice was brought in to assist with the comfort and care. Because my loved one was in a nursing home, Denver hospice was an extra set of eyes on her to make sure that she was getting all that she needed, even down to the hygiene of my family member. Unfortunately, my family member passed away but Denver Hospice didn't stop there. We received a sympathy card signed by all of the staff, as well as a phone call to extend condolences. Much appreciated. Of course, I hope to never need them again, but if I do, I will call them up. read more

UC Health must get a kickback from Denver Hospice. We were in a fog. We SHOULD have been told to GO check out both of our options and then pick which one would work best for us. That was not the case, our other option was barely mentioned but all kinds of printed materials were available on hand to show us from the Denver Hospice. Denver Hospice is a beautiful facility aesthetically. Nice area for family gathering and coffee and light breakfast of either toast, oatmeal or cream of wheat in the kitchen for guests. (family) That is it for me. I was struggling one day with our entire situation. I went to speak with the social worker. All of her responses were "canned" answers. She is young and has most likely NEVER experienced anything remotely like what our family was going through. After I spoke with her she avoided me like the plague. Same situation with the Head Nurse Practitioner. I expressed my concerns about medications, explained my past experience with prescription medication has left me not trusting. I sensed a bit of sarcasm from her when I was trying to make sense of things. Additionally, I pointed out to her that there was one particular nurse I did not click with and how my husband always slept very long hours after each shift that this particular nurse was assigned to my husband. (I questioned dosages and why was that happening) I told her I did not want this particular nurse. She also avoided me like the plague after this AND if my husband had not passed when he did he would have had the nurse that I did not want caring for my husband that night. Ironically, my husband passed right at shift change. I was there practically 24/7 for two and a half weeks. My car was broken into in their parking lot. I never pursued or reported it to them because why? I already know they will not do anything about it. When I asked questions during the stay the response was often "did you read the brochure we gave you?" One day a nurse said she would talk to the family. I told her I was going to go home and shower. WHILE I WAS GONE, she talked to my oldest son. I also DO NOT like the fact that they talk about the patient to the family right there in the room. I think it should be done discretely, outside of the room and away from earshot of the patient. Same with the chaplain. He came in, was very nice but asked me if I had looked into which funeral home I was going to use and left a list of names. I think it is rude and inconsiderate to do this in front of the patient. Just because their eyes are closed does not mean they are not listening. I learned that the hard way myself and regret it to this day. I have yet to receive the bill from them. I called and spoke to someone who said it was mailed September 30th and I STILL have not received it. I need to close out my husbands estate and this is holding it up. I would not recommend Denver Hospice to anyone. read more

The Denver Hospice helped my family and I deal with the loss of a family member, right before Christmas this year (2021). They were there, helping us through this difficult time. We were able to give our loved one, the love, kindness, and dignity he so deserved, right up to his passing here at home. We were able to say our good-byes, and spend the sacred time with him. They continue to support us, and will continue to do so, as the "first" dates, like birthdays, anniversaries, holidays, etc. roll around. It's strange, but I do recommend Denver Hospice. I concur with the many poor experiences with Denver Hospice. Management and communication at its worst. Never had the same nurse twice, CNAs didn't know if /when they were to come, and after my husband passed, I never heard from hospice again. The one star rating is for the nurses and CNAs who were wonderful caregivers, but overwhelmed by poor management. read more

Denver Hospice used to be the top hospice. I worked there and left as soon as Tim Bowen and Care Synergy swooped in with their new business model. Fast forward. My friend chose them to care for her when she was diagnosed with untreatable brain cancer. As a longtime (large) donor she had every faith that they would care for her. Her nurse could not have been more condescending, rude, and bothered when asked for a visit. I have no doubt nurses are encouraged to meet only the minimum requirement of visit frequencies, as dictated by CMS. What a terrible disservice. read more

My grandmother was placed on hospice Sunday afternoon with doctors predicting a few days to up to a week. Rene came to visit on Monday and spoke to my uncle, giving limited information for care and saying that the hospice would include weekly visits. On Tuesday, we called for the nurse to come visit due to some signs that my grandmother was declining. Rene showed up this day with an apparent attitude as if we were inconveniencing her for asking her to come out. She told us that my grandmother has "weeks to live". Throughout the visit, I started warming up to her as she seemed to show a little more compassion throughout this one visit and thought that maybe I was too quick to judgement in the beginning. On Wednesday afternoon, my grandmother had fallen asleep and had slept for over 21 hours. When calling Rene, we were told to "calm down, this is all normal" and was told over the phone "she is progressing quickly". When asking her if she was going to come out to assess anything she said, "if I come out I will just tell you the same thing I am telling you now" very obviously trying to avoid coming to the house. When asking her if she can come out anyways, there was a very loud audible sigh and she said "I will be there in a little" and hung up on my mother. My uncle was having a hard time accepting that my grandmother was declining and had questions about the medications being administered. My mother asked Rene to help explain it to my uncle and she waved her hand in my uncles face and with a raised voice she said, "Throw the numbers away! She is not getting out of bed again!" She then pointed her hand in my uncles face and said, "Do you want your mother to suffer, sir?!" At this point, my aunt and I pulled the nurse aside to have a conversation about how she was speaking to a grieving family. We told her that we understand that she does this for a living and with that, there may be some desensitizing involved, however, this is our family member and we do not deal with this everyday. Rene kept saying that "she is not going to sugarcoat anything or lie to us." We consistently had to explain that is not what we were asking for, it is not about what she was saying rather how she was saying it. At this point, we asked Rene to get us a different nurse as she was not going to be a good fit. She walked back in the house and said "well I guess I've been fired" and left the residence. There was no care nor concern for our grief and Rene couldn't have been less compassionate during this time. I spoke to a supervisor regarding this issue and she was kind, however, knowing how these things typically go, I'm sure Rene will be putting other families through these same things moving forward. With every concern we had, Rene would only say "this is all normal" with no explanation or anything. Rene also ignored many family members who were in the room during her visits. The night that this final incident happened with Rene, a new nurse by the name of Kayli showed up. She could not have been more kind, patient, and understanding with my family. She explained everything so thoroughly where no questions were left by the end of that visit. She would tell us that certain things were to be expected as well as WHY they were happening. She listened to every single sign/symptom that my grandmother had experienced. My grandmother had not gone to the bathroom in two days at this point and Kayli made sure she handled that in order to make my grandmother as comfortable as possible. (Something Rene didn't even attempt nor acknowledge when we told her this because "it's all normal") my grandmothers bladder was rock hard because it was so full when Kayli arrived. Rene neglected this aspect when we asked her about a catheter two days prior. Kayli sat with my family for a little over two hours, asking about my grandmothers life, our lives, and even sharing her story. She explained things in a way to where my uncle was finally able to accept the state his mother was in. I really could not thank Kayli enough for helping our family through what turned out to be my grandmothers last night here with us. The next morning when my grandmother passed away, the nurse Miguel showed up. He was courteous, handled hard phone calls for us, and made my grandmother look presentable so that family could come say their goodbyes. Before he left, he made sure to address the whole family and give us his condolences. Because of Kayli and Miguel, I'm positive that there are nurses within this facility that care about their patients as well as their patients families. However, I am positive because of our experience with Rene that there are some bad seeds within this place. Rene has become a stain on this already painful memory for myself and my family. read more

Our case manager and social worker were out of town during the two weeks my father was dying. They were both very good; however, they were not replaced. The CNA was out sick one week too. I called several times asking for help. I was told we would have a nurse every day. I know that a traveling nurse put that in the report, I spoke to the director and she said the same thing...the next day....nobody so I called out and got the same good traveling nurse. We never had a nurse everyday. My father died. We carried him to the bathroom and did it all ourselves. We used the medicine they brought. The one good thing is that the telephone hot line nurses were very helpful. Short staffing? I don't know but for those two weeks it was like "pulling teeth". read more

You are the worst people I ever seen. My husband's nurse stopped by on July 3rd 2023. She never mentioned anything was wrong with him. The next day he passed away July 4th 2023. You just like to see people die and do nothing about it. The social worker is the laziest person she never helped me,with any financial help. The brevant program you have is not existence. Noone called or showed up at all. So I don't recommend them at all. They don't have compassion. read more

My husband has been on service for 6 days now and the level of care is unacceptable. We have had so many service break down issues. Promises not kept. Medication errors. Symptoms not managed. The lack of communication between staff and family is very poor as is the communication between staff. I believe that is what caused a lot of the problems with follow-through. They even sent a CNA to my house that didn't know what a urinal was. read more

The Denver Blood Cancer Institute pushed us into using Denver Hospice, which was unfortunate. Much of what they sold us on were options that were never presented over 3 weeks. We were sent contract pushers everytime we believed they would be sending actual nursing care which we stupidly signed everytime. After they convinced us to bring our Mother in for a temporary visit, I couldn't get inquiries returned. She was clearly agitated from the insane cocktails of steroids, off market acid blockers, anxiety and pain meds, and they put her on a catheter right away instead of taking her to the restroom. Counseling services and many services I've been told are included with Hospice are non existent here. The visitor bed in the room is a hard & uncomfortable recliner that's impossible to sleep in, likely to keep loved ones from sticking around and observing how poorly staffed the are. Food options nearby are exclusively Safeway grocery store. This is possibly the worst hospice ever. read more

The service from The Denver Hospice was extraordinary. My mother had dementia and passed away a few days ago after several months of care. All members of the team were professional, caring, responsive, and supportive. I could not have asked for anything more from anyone I spoke to or interacted with. It is never pleasant when a family member goes into hospice and the best that can be asked is that the relative be made as comfortable as possible before passing away. When i first signed up for my grandfather to be on hospice i thought they would be great. It all seemed to be going well. Well as the months went on his CNA was always arguing with my grandpa and yelling at him for not taking enough showers and just being so cruel to him. But the worst part was when he died. The day he died is when his nurse and social worker came to the house to take him from our home and put him in a facility so they could bath him more. When they went upstairs the found him dead. When they pronounced him, the nurse didn't bother cleaning him up and making him look okay she was just concerned about the morphine. When I got there, about thirty minutes after they pronounced him, i went upstairs to look at him and he was covered in urine, blood out of his mouth, hanging off of the bed and not covered at all. She says care was done but no. When i confronted her she didn't care she just laughed it off and just said whatever. I am so furious to this day i have yet to grieve for him because i am the one who had to clean him up and make him look okay for the rest of my family. It was the hardest thing i have ever had to do. i will never recommend them to any one ever again. In my opinion that nurse should be fired. read more

I had so many break down in communication between the staff and myself. The CNA was not professional and was not paying attention to want she was doing and all most pushed my wife out of bed. The CNA didn't spend time to clean her correctly and was done in 15 minutes and when she was asked when she was coming back she had no idea and call the office. There is so many level of care thar was unacceptable. The day before my wife had passed she was in tremendous pain and after calling the after hours nurse two times they sent a nurse out after waiting 5 hours, the nurse that came out had just started her shift this is very unacceptable. Your family will never forget her cries of pain. I was told by the nurse who pronounced her passing that the social worker and the chaplain would be contacting me and still haven't heard anything from them yet. TERRIBLE experience. My family could NEVER recommend this hospice. The communication did not exist. We were never able to reach anyone evenings or weekends and rarely received a return call. The nurse's aid smoked on the back patio and left cigarette butts. She also talked to her daughter on speaker while tending to my mother. I twice asked her if she could take personal calls on her own time. She apologized but did it again the following day. The day before she passed away, my mother was in a tremendous amount of pain. The nurse was THREE HOURS LATE without a call. My brother and I will never forget her cries of pain. She should not have suffered. My brother wrote a letter to the President about our experience, but she never replied. We thought this agency was a non-profit, but a little research revealed that the CEO makes upwards of a million dollars per year. That does not seem right. We were told the bereavement department would connect. Five weeks after Moms passing, we have yet to hear a word. We will not get a do-over. All we can hope for is that we save a few families from the same fate. We were not valued, respected or supported. Our mother's final days were filled with stress and pain. The exact opposite of what we were promised and needed. Shameful. read more

Although we were told they were equipped for pediatric patients we soon learned they are not! We had no idea that our nurse overseeing care had no pediatric experience. And it wasn't until end of Oct early Nov that they had a pediatric physician on staff. This should have been fully disclosed. We went through a lot of hoops trying to get correct supplies over 6 months. And still had issues with timeliness and correct orders. Instead of caring for my child I ended up babysitting every move they did. read more

Once again there should be minus ratings for this business. Recent encounter as healthcare professional not a surprise anymore as they refused to call family member when patient in pain from serious infection and left that call for nurse to make on their behalf. Then had to recommend to their team to please follow up with the patient after minor surgery that they should have initiated. A recent article on the internet outlines the recent financial concerns from employees while the CEO continues to pull large bonus and salary is hardly a surprise. Best advice avoid this low quality provider for better options. It may draw supporters from wealthier Coloradans but obvious they haven't been on service end. read more
