Yuck! We have been patients at this practice for decades , seeing mostly David's father Clay - who was a great guy. We often go in the room together, both with appointments. But we found out today their policy has changed, only the patient can go in the room. But, because of something my husband found concerning on my leg , my husband wanted to go into the room with me and he was told no. I asked David about it, he said he stood by this, and they "run more efficiently" when only the patient is in the room". What does that mean ? It might cost you a minute or two, and time is money? I don't think his dad would have disallowed a concerned spouse of 35 years to accompany me. What a shame. We will find a new doctor. read more

I went in for a mole on my face - the nurse practitioner said it was a neoplasm and that it looked ok. Did a very quick body scan and found a mole to remove on my back. I have had several visits here and they have all been good until today. I had a surgery scheduled and previously updated insurance, which at that time I was told the surgery was covered and I would have no out of pocket costs. I call today to confirm and was told I would have $500-$700+ out of pocket and when I was confused the person on the phone got extremely rude and hateful with me. As much as I enjoyed the nurse practitioner that I have always seen, the horrendous office staff has me questioning if I will be returning. read more

I walked in a waiting room filled with people. The receptionists were not friendly and did not greet me when I walked in. They were rude when giving me my paperwork. They did not take me back until 45 minutes after my appointment time due to the large amount of patients needing to be seen in the waiting room. When I finally got back in the room, the nurse asked me why I scheduled my visit and I told her that the corners of my mouth had been cracking and I wanted to have my acne looked at. She then asked me if I wanted to have the full body checkup that was free and I agreed. Once the doctor came in, she was very rushed and just started checking my body and asked if there were any spots of concern. I told her there were two moles on my head and she couldn't even find them without me pointing them out to her. She did my "full body checkup" very rushed in less than two minutes. Once she finished my checkup, she handed me the paper and said thank you and started walking out the door. I had to stop her and ask her well what about my lips and the acne? She walked up to me and just told me to not use chapstick and put Vaseline on them and then left. She didn't even look at my lips and the cracking or even acknowledge my acne which was why I came in in the first place! She obviously didn't even take the time to look at her papers before coming into the room. The doctors and staff here do not care about the patients. They just care about seeing as many people as possible. I am disgusted that I had to pay for a less than 5 minute checkup especially considering what I came in for wasn't even addressed by the doctor. read more

I have been a patient for many years at the Dermatology Center, but have had the WORST experience with staff and scheduling! The doctors are great, but waited over a week for a call back to see if I could get a new or different prescription , and never received a call. I had to call back a second time and was told I would have to wait over a month for an appointment for a severe skin issue I had already been seen for. ABSOLUTE WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE for a doctors office that I have experienced! I will definitely be switching to a new dermatologist, not worth dealing with this office any longer! read more

It was honestly a really jarring and uncomfortable experience. The NP came in to do a full skin check, literally ripped the back of my gown, didn't really tell me or ask to pull up my bra or down my underwear before she just yanked them. I've never had a skin check before, and it was a really bad and aggressive experience. I am gonna try and find a new dermatologist. read more

Imagine that... all three reviews on this page is one star... today I am having my stitches removed for the second time following a cyst removed. The stitches were removed and two days later I needed to be restitched because the wound didn't heal after the stitches were removed initially. I should have been restitched THAT DAY. Two days later I was restitched... The second time I was restitched I was charged AnOTHeR copay. TWO DAYS! The dr is claiming that it was me who caused it as I am doing push-ups...? Seriously? I am still doing push-ups and the stitches are fine this time. I will be having my company's health advocate follow up. Unreal... I don't think they are hurting that bad to need to charge me another $40... what has ever happened to doing the right thing?? They refuse to handle insurance prior authorizations, even for things that the insurance company will cover with one. In the past I have contacted the insurance company myself and they have initiated the request to doctor's office, which I guess saves them time so they were more willing to do it. However, this time they won't even do that. I get that money is made by seeing patients, but in my mind this is not very good patient care, as it demonstrates a lack of compassion. The drug I was prescribed would cost me $20 with an authorization but is $250 without. So I have not been able to pay for it and am not using it. What good does it do me to go to the doctor? Although this is less of an issue for me, it is worth noting that they also require, as I saw in another review, that you pay a percentage of your deductible up front, and in most cases this just creates a hassle, because the accounting has to be adjusted after the insurance is billed per the practice's contract with the insurance company. read more

It was a mistake going here. I saw Lindsay House here and I explained what I have been experiencing. She looks at my skin for about 15 seconds and says "that's not possible". I was like okay...then what could it be? "I don't know". My skin is oozing..."Sorry, it's just not possible. There isn't anything that does what you are saying and do you really think that you have something that is new." She sends me off with sensitive skin prescription....really. Ok, I don't care what I feel like or think is happening if you can give me aN actual diagnosis. I had started feeling like maybe I am delusional so I purchased a microscope and took pics of my skin. Couple days later, I have a massive breakout on skin. I went back to my family doctor and he saw the pics and immediately started giving me medication to treat that issue as well as the skin irritation. The problem is, the family doctor isn't a skin doctor and doesn't know what it is but knows something is wrong. Worst exam that I have ever had. I now have to wait another 2 months before I can get into see a real dermatologist. read more

I've been a patient for many years, and have liked the doctors. But, the office staff is extremely rude. I've had many unpleasant run ins, trying to give the benefit of the doubt, but I've had enough. A few months back, I decided to switch doctors, and today verified I made the correct choice. I called them before 9am to verify I can get a copy of my records, I was told yes, I have to sign off on that and it'd be roughly 5 business days before I can pick them up. I questioned, so I need to drive in, sign a form, then drive back? Just to pick up my file? Granted i live 30 minutes away. And she said well no, you come in and sign, and we'll get them to you. But not today, today we are just too busy, you can come on Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday or Friday. So I said I have a new appointment today at 2pm (thinking maybe she thought I'd be in within 30 minutes or so) that I need them for, and she proceeded to tell me she is too busy to have that done today. I could be missing something, maybe it takes awhile to get this information together, but I just don't see how it takes but a few minutes. And I don't know what happened to customer first. Even appointment changes or questions on your bill makes you feel like you ruined their entire day. Luckily my new dermatologist had me sign a form for them to request them electronically. Even tho that means they didn't have them for my first visit. I would not recommend them. read more

Not impressed at all and wouldn't go back. I went in for what I thought was fungal acne on my cheek, I have decent skin other than that, but it was just one small patch on my cheek that wouldn't go away and I wanted help with it. Without asking any questions about my skin type or my issues, they recommended acutane and sent me on my way within 10 minutes. I listened to them and signed up and then called the next day because I decided that that was too extreme for me and asked to speak to the dermatologist about my skin on the phone to avoid going in again. I never spoke to him but they prescribed me a topical cream that costs 300 after insurance (still hadn't bothered to ask about my skin type). I called and said that was too pricey and asked for something else and then the prescribed me a topical cream that cost 500 after insurance. Never once asked about my skin type or what I was hoping for. Hopefully my lovely review saves someone from wasting their time :) read more

Andrea and Lindsay are okay to see. The only time I've seen the doctor was on the initial visit, I'm sure the nurse practitioners aren't getting compensated very well for doing the doctor's job. As far as the front office staff, the blonde checkout clerk needs to go back to learn FIRST GRADE math. She takes the papers and says that I owe ninety seven fifty, but then said wait there is a balance of two fifty, so it's one twenty three. I proceed to write a check writing it out as $123.00. I said wait, what was the balance? She said two fifty. I said two DOLLARS and fifty cents? She said yeah. I asked, so how is the balance now one hundred twenty three dollars if it started out at Ninety seven dollars and fifty cents? She said no, it's one hundred twenty three, when you add it, it comes to one hundred twenty three cents. ?????? I asked, do you mean one hundred DOLLARS and twenty three cents? She looks at me and said yeah. I said when you say one hundred twenty three cents, that is one DOLLAR and twenty three cents, you are saying it incorrectly, you need to say one hundred DOLLARS and twenty three cents. She just looked at me like I was nuts. I should have just given her $1.23 and called it even. bahaha I would hate to see their books come tax season. Needless to say, we will not be going back and now are looking for a new dermatologist whose staff is hopefully better educated! read more

I have even walked in for my appointment and sighed thinking that with the waiting room as full as it is I was going to wait all day. Not true. I still got in at my appointed time. My wife HAD been going here for 22 years. It is run like an assembly line. It has always been long waits (typically 30-60 minutes) past appointment times. The staff has always been indifferent if not rude, condescending. Recently we have been noticing deceptive billing practices coming from this office. They make an appointment and code other procedures without telling you that they are doing something additional. They surprise you with an outrageous bill about a month later and have zero interest in working to resolve their unethical business practices. Now they have lost a loyal patient family. read more

My daughter and I both see the staff at this office, as well as other family members. We have always found the staff to be very nice and accommodating. The nurse practitioner, Lindsay is brilliant! Based on various symptoms, she correctly identified a serious issue my daughter was developing and referred us to the right doctor. My daughter is now being treated for the condition and has improved significantly. thank you Lindsay for your care, expertise, and attention to details! Dr Clay is great as well! These people are crooks!! My husband got laid off a week before a scheduled appointment to have a large cyst on his face removed. He really needed the procedure done and we assumed the insurance would carry through the end of the month. Long story short, it did not end we received a $900 bill. Of course with him being laid off, we did not have the money to pay it right away. I tried to set up a payment plan and they refused to work with me, saying they would only accept payment in full. By the time we had enough money to pay it off, they had already sent it to collections with a 35% fee added on... The original bill of $900 was now a whopping $1,300!! Of course the last thing we needed was his credit score to go down on top of being laid off so we went ahead and paid it. A week later we received ANOTHER bill for $90 from his NOVEMBER consultation appointment saying we never paid a co-pay. If it's now June, why are we just now getting a bill from November?? After you already sent our account to collections?? These people refuse to work with us and are trying to take every penny we have. Absolute scoundrels!! And the ladies who answer the phone are extremely rude with no pity whatsoever. I urge you DO NOT COME HERE unless you want to be cheated out of your savings. read more

I have been a patient of Dr. Clay Shearer for years. I have history of skin cancer and I scheduled an appointment for a routine skin check plus to have the doctor look at a couple of concerning spots. I showed up on time for my appointment and upon check in I provided my insurance information. I was told at that time I had to pay 70% of my deductible after I saw the doctor. My first thought was 70% of what amount? An office visit and 2 potential biopsies could be quite costly. I was taken off guard having been a patient for a very long time and 'never' had to pay any portion of services that day. I was embarrassed to say the least as everyone in the waiting room could hear the conversation. I did not have any money, checkbook or credit cards with me. I was not prepared to make a payment at that time. Then to add insult to injury I was asked to wait while the desk clerk checked with her insurance person to see if I could be seen. She blatantly announced a few minutes later from the window to the entire waiting room that I would have to be rescheduled. So after taking the afternoon off of work and the embarrassment, I did not get to see the doctor. Worst of all I did not have my concern eased regarding the spots I have. Humiliated, I walked out. Now regarding 'policy', I get that. My problem was the way it was handled. It may have been beneficial when I made my appointment to be informed that the pay the day of service was being enforced as it never was before. I know it can be quite expensive to see a dermatologist it was not my first rodeo. I fully realized I would have to pay the bill. I had full intention of paying my bill as I always have. A little discretion would have been appreciated. What ever happened to HIPAA? Sad to say I am not comfortable returning to Dr. Shearer. No fault of his but due to the manner in which I was treated by a member of his office staff. read more

In reading other reviews it seems as if other people have had similar issues. I was told a complete different amount (percentage of deductible) by the billing dept on the phone, which was a decision maker to rather I would go thru with the cyst removal or not. I go to the appointment and the amount doubled, I apologized to the doctor for wasting the appointment but unfortunately I could not pay the $650.00. This morning I called the office and ask the lady in the billing department if they would accept 50% down and monthly payments, she replied unfortunately they didn't but also that Dr. Clay Shearer had told her not to place me back on the surgery schedule because I had wasted a time slot for surgery, although when I apologized he assured me that he understood and if I decided to have the surgery at a later date to call and reschedule. Due to being misinformed by the billing department of his office, it cost me 2 hours away from work and 100 mile commute. I have used this office for many years but will never be back. The lady at the front desk was so rude when she went to collect the payment ($650.00) and my mouth dropped. I'm almost positive this has happened to several patients but for him to lay the blame on me when it was very clear if the billing department had given me the accurate information in the beginning neither of us would have had our time wasted!! I'm not sure why they couldn't get a pre authorization so that the surgery may have been affordable. Very poor patient care in my opinion. read more

Several of my family members have been treated by Dr. David Shearer and have nothing but good things to say about him. Evidently he is calm, respectful, and does a great job. My experience was with Dr. Clay Shearer and Dr. House and I would never go back to either of them. The Dr. Shearer I visited bullied me into going on Accutane, telling me how many hundreds of patients he has on Accutane and refusing to answer any of my questions about it. I would try to ask simple questions like "What face wash should I use with Accutane?" and he would go on a ten minute rant about lawyers and fake online reviews about people's mental issues while on Accutane. Even after I decided that I didn't want to start an incredibly dangerous medication, he told me how society looks down on people "with faces like yours," taking what anxiety I did have about my acne and multiplying it tenfold. The office staff was incredibly rude and condescending whenever I tried to schedule an appointment. The final straw was when I had to see Dr. House instead of Dr. Shearer. She was downright hostile and clearly angry that she had to visit with me instead of my regular doctor. After that visit, I discontinued my successful Accutane regime solely bc I could not stand to be treated so harshly by the entire office. read more
