The hotel screwed up our reservation and did nothing for us so we had to get an Airbnb

Ok first of all... this place is a motel. But it doesn't feel like a motel. The rooms are huge. We got a 2 queen room and easily fit 2 Adults, 3 kids (one is an infant and we brought a travel bassinet for her) and 2 dogs with their crates... I fully expected to be on top of each other but the room is so huge that we had more than enough room! Bathroom is large and spacious. Beautifully decorated and did I mention CLEAN?!? The kids had a lovely swim in the pool which the pool and deck were clean. Plenty of seating around for the grown ups too! ... and: dog friendly! I looked for dust, grime, dirt, anything I could find. Nothing. Sheets passed THE test (you know the one. I don't have to explain it). And when we asked for more blankets/towels/etc. they were sent up within 5 minutes. The continental breakfast was small but filling. And here's where I was sold: Stephanie was a wealth of knowledge on the history of the motel. She told us all about Art. The building, the grounds, the military service, the medals, awards, achievements, influence of Art Sr. How the car 1932 Ford- came to be and even about how Art Jr carried along the legacy. She was not only extremely sweet, but so knowledgeable and didn't have to take her time to tell a family about the history of the place and she did. We will be back. My friends and I definitely enjoyed staying here. The parking lot was large and easy to navigate. The staff was friendly and helpful and so courteous. The rooms were so nice! Stay here! The history is great, but so is the present. Front desk staff are fantastic, helpful, good location, easy to walk to things, decent rates for Lake Placid, nice comfortable rooms with space to move around, balconies, really comfortable chairs. If you want a 5-star hotel go get that. If you want a really nice , convenient, motel in Lake Placid hard to beat this place. read more

Howdy do! We stopped in here because nobody else near the lake would take our German Shepherd; I'm beyond glad that we did. This is one of the cleanest and most up kept hotels we've stayed in. Staff was very nice and informative. The rooms are very clean and comfortable. Nice amenities with coffee and "homemade" muffins & donuts for breakfast. Our room had a beautiful view of Mt Marcy and Algonquin. The pool was super nice and the pool chairs are very nice. read more

This is a great place to stay for the price, located at one end of Lake Placid and within easy walking distance of the main strip. The rooms were spacious, super clean and ours had a nice view of the mountains. We were pleased with every aspect except perhaps the mattresses, which were a bit too soft for our taste (but they were new and clean, so just a matter of personal preference). Would definitely stay here again next time we are in the area. read more

What a fantastic find! After the block of rooms for a wedding at another hotel filled up, we ended up booking an upscale 2nd floor room at Art Devlin's and I couldn't have been happier with that decision. From the call to make my reservation all the way through checkout, the staff was friendly and accommodating. The real story, however, was our room. Cathedral ceilings, huge bathroom, giant flat screen TV and THAT VIEW. Waking up each morning and looking out to the gorgeous mountains - fantastic. I have to admit I wasn't quite sure what to expect - the website isn't exactly cutting edge and a "motor inn" doesn't exactly sound glamorous - but after our fantastic stay I would recommend Art Devlin's to anyone. read more

My husband and I decided to take an impromptu weekend away and started looking for places in Placid. While I would have loved to stay at the Lake Placid Lodge, at over $700 a night it was out of the budget. So I turned to my trustworthy peers at Yelp and decided that Art Devlin's was the place to go. For a bargain price of $92 I got a clean, comfortable room to rest my head after hiking and a great newly renovated bathroom with seemingly limitless hot water for soaking in the tub. The only negatives for me was the fact that while the walls were pretty soundproof, we could hear the folks above us walking around. OH and the coffee in the morning is okay but I definitely skipped the from the freezer muffins and donuts. read more

Upon check in, Art Devlin greeted us and gave us restaurant recommendations and gave us a brief history of the motel. When we walked into our room it was spotless and very spacious. The beds were so comfortable and they had delicious complimentary muffins and coffee in the morning. It is perfectly located and only 10 minutes to Whiteface mountain. I would definitely stay here in the future as the price was very reasonable compared with other hotels in the area. read more

Wow! What a lovely experience! Booked 2 nights in Placid fairly last minute. The man I spoke with on the phone was friendly and extremely knowledgable explaining room sizes, views and prices. The prices were at least 50% less than anywhere in town. The views are beautiful from here, the pool is clean, the staff was friendly and the room was quite large and beautiful. I frequent Lake Placid a few times a year and I'm so thrilled I discovered this hotel for my future adventures! read more

We booked a room at Art Devlin's despite it not offering online reservations. I thought it was a bit strange but went with it. I'm glad we did. We enjoyed a _very_ comfortable room, beautiful view of the mountains, and an extra convenient location being walking distance to town and not too far from Whiteface. We will definitely come back. The room was very comfortable, the bathroom was spotless and outfitted with upgraded fixtures. Despite it being quite cold, the room was very warm. Almost too warm but that was easy to fix by opening the balcony door a bit to let in some of the chilly winter air. The only downside, and I like to post one for any review is that there is no coffee in the rooms! You must go to the lobby after 7 a.m. to get coffee and munchies. I thought that was a bit strange as even in rooms that cost half as much, one gets coffee in the room. Nonetheless, this is not a major issue just quirk of the operation. This is more than made up for by the lovely display of Olympics memorabilia that is in the pristine lobby with a cozy fireplace that welcomes you when you arrive. Also enjoyed the very courteous and professional service by everyone we encountered during our stay. read more

What a great vintage place to stay while in Lake Placid. We happened upon this place randomly and couldn't have been happier! Art Devlin was a local as well as part of the Olympic ski jumping team, so he was a bit of a local hero. He ran this motel up into the 2000's and after his passing his family took over and is still running it. It has that awesome vintage look of drive up motels from another era, while having been maintained and updated. There is a nice size pool for when the weather is nice, along with a large patio to gather outside if you want. Stop in to the office in the morning to grab a complimentary cup of coffee and local pastries while looking at Art's skiing trophies. You are also within walking distance to some great little restaurants as well. The rooms are large, clean and updated nicely. This isn't the Four Seasons, so don't expect modern elegance, but the place is is well maintained and an incredible value for the price. I wouldn't hesitate to stay here again. read more

We decided on a last minute trip to LP over the recent Presidents' holiday weekend. All the national chain hotels were booked so we scouted out a few of the local hotels. Wow! Are we happy we chose this hotel for our two night stay. I am very particular about having a clean and quiet hotel room and this hotel delivered on both scores. We stayed in one of the Gold rooms and was very impressed by its cleanliness. I traveled for years and have spent hundreds of nights in hotels and this was the cleanest ever. I always pull back bedding and lift the mattress; spotless. The staff was friendly and coffee with small breakfast bar was offered in the morning. The hotel is 1 block from the speed skating oval and close to downtown. I will stay here again. read more

We were in town for a wedding and the couple included Art Devlin's in their room block options. The price made me suspicious - and apparently some of the other wedding guests were, too. The addition of the words "motor inn" in the name of the hotel also turned some people off. Fools. I did a little research and after reading reviews, it was an obvious choice. We paid $120 bucks for a huge suite with a jacuzzi in a huge picture window overlooking the high peaks in all their fall foliage and snow capped beauty. We could park our entire bathroom at home in the shower alone. We had a comfortable queen bed, two comfy chairs, a balcony, flat screen television, tons of closet space, and vaulted ceilings. Our pals from the wedding paid twice as much at the Best Western and triple what we paid at the Whiteface lodge. Not only this, the staff is SO nice. Everyone was really outgoing and pleasant toward us. We were offered advice on where to eat (Downtown Diner - go there), and were right between downtown and Mirror Lake and the Mountain. We'll be back for a proper ski trip in the future, and we'll stay at Art's. (He says it's more expensive in season, but guess what - so are the others, and that much more.) There are only two suites like ours, but a friend stayed in a standard room and had good things to say about it. She paid $92 for her room, which had a nice big bed and plenty of space, according to her. read more

Great view, huge flat screen tv, walking distance to Olympic Center, eateries, bowling alley and the shopping of main street. Oh and the beds were very comfortable, I thought. Very clean room. wonderful hotel. kevin at the front desk was very friendly, and he remembered and would greet me by name every time i walked by. the hotel rooms are clean and well kept. the free muffins in the morning are fantastic. fresh baked and full of flavor. the drip coffee is also really well done. the pool was nice to swim and exercise in. was also able to meet art devlin and his dog as well. such a nice man who's integrity is apparent. will definitely stay here again next time i'm in lake placid. read more

My family just returned from a post Christmas vacation in Lake Placid. We stood at Art Devlin's. This was our second stay at this wonderful motel. Our rooms were terrific with all amenities and a great view of Whiteface MTN. The staff is first rate and very helpful to all customers.There is a morning continental breakfast available in the Office. The motel is perfectly situated in the heart of the village and very walkable to shops, restaurants, and pubs There is also a Whiteface ski shuttle that stops daily in front of the motel.. I always liked the way that the town of Lake Placid decorates itself during the Christmas season. It is no wonder that LP has been designated as a 'All American Town'.. The 'Devlin' name is very special to this sleepy little hamlet and you easily get the sense that the family goes to great lengths to make sure any lodgers get the only the best of customer care.You can feel the tradition! The rates are quite reasonable and if you are weighing price versus value this is simply the best place around. Special thanks to Kevin, the manager, for his personal attention during our stay. If you are ever traveling in the North Country this is a must visit destination. You will not be disappointed, in fact you, like us, are more likely to come back again. gk read more

Stayed one night at this hotel and after watching "Hotel Impossible", there are several things that need to be changed but overall a nice, comfortable place to stay. Walking distance to downtown---several blocks, not right there, but anyone in good shape could walk it. Needs updates----from "HI", the number one thing is "get rid of bedspreads!!!!". Lots of germs and ick, no good hotels use them anymore. Update the rooms! They are mostly nice but could some modern touches. Front desk is friendly, but you need to push a button to get them (another no-no from "HI"). Overall, the price was right and the room was clean with a few touch ups this could be a really nice place!! read more

This place is fantastic. Went up to Lake Placid for the weekend w two kids....gave us a room that had great floor space for only having two double beds and ceiling was vaulted so it felt huge...bathrooms seem to have been recently renovated and with great finishes, especially for the price. Brought the dog and he was only an extra 4 dollars/night! And they have baggies out in the parking lot to make taking care of the dog's business extra easy. Everything was clean and well taken care of. There is also a pool, which was nice. Went to the brewery one night, and Liquids and Solids the second, both were short walks, and town was quite close as well. Also great to be on that side of town to head out Saturday morning for some hiking in the high peaks. Couldn't ask for anything better. read more

Perfect stay this weekend at Art Devlin. I'm usually in Lake Placid for work and stay at one of the brand hotels but brought the family this time, including our black lab. It's been a long time since I've stayed in a motor lodge and was reminded of the fun I had growing up and family road trips with my parents. The room at AD was spacious with updated bathroom, comfy beds to rival the brand hotel I usually stay at and very clean. You'd never know it was a "pet friendly" room. The manager loaned us a dog crate, although I'd suggest bringing one since they don't have many and you don't want to risk not having one. Understandably, dogs must be crated when left alone. The pool was perfect for my kids - they had a great time diving for pool toys while I sat watching them with a great view of the ADK scenery. Lots of restaurants nearby and close to village shops. Don't hesitate to stay at Art Devlin's. I'm pretty particular when it comes to hotels and this one hit the mark of casual, clean & location. Tip: don't miss breakfast at Farmhouse Cafe is you are looking for a full breakfast. I've been several times and it's always good. Ice cream across the street at Stewart's has more options, quality ice cream and half the price of Emma's on Main St (go for the "make your own sundae"). For dinner, Lisa G's food was good but they can't handle dinner rush. I'd suggest only going during slow periods. Our food came out one entree at a time - kids were done before my husband had his meal. Big Slide is better. Gets busy so go into Yelp and get on their waiting list. Food is unique & awesome during my previous trips). Their craft beer is also very good. read more

Had a room with a porch which was great as we could leave the door open all night long for the cool fresh air. What a treasure - a reasonably priced, immaculately clean motel in a perfect location. It is obvious the owner, Art Devlin's son, takes pride in his father's legacy - a large trophy case in the lobby and impeccable lodgings - large flat screen t.v., the cleanest bathtub/shower unit I've ever seen, super comfortable bedding, and beautiful landscaping - not to mention the fabulous view of the mountains. I'm staying at Art Devlin's for the second time, and I continue to be very happy with my choice. The entire facility is spotless. The price for a basic room with 2 queen beds for a Sunday night in the middle of the summer is less than $90 before taxes. A very fair price. The property has a very nice pool with a breathtaking view. There is lodging closer to the middle of town, by about 3-4 blocks, but the parking at most of them is very tight and every time you leave the parking lot at those properties you're right in the middle of the downtown congestion. Art Devlin's is an easy and short walk to downtown and the walk takes you right by the Olympic center. Personally I love Lake Placid and will always stay at Art Devlin's. read more

My friends and I rented 3 rooms at Art Devlin's October 24 & 25 so we could hike Mt. Marcy. The rooms were spotless with what appeared to be newly remodeled bathrooms. The beds were super comfortable and clean. We were able to crate 2 dogs in the rooms with us for only $4 more per dog. The staff was exceedingly friendly and helpful. Additionally, the inn's location in the center of Lake Placid made it easy to walk to restaurants, Olympic venues and stores for supplies. We would all recommend Art Devlin's and definitely stay there again. Terrific value for the price. read more
