Literally one of the best vacations I've ever had. From the second we checked in until we tearfully had to check out, it was just a magical experience. We brought my mother-in-law here to celebrate her birthday and we hoped she'd like the laid back pace of a quaint lake town and she loved it. We had rooms in the lake cottage and our room (5L) has to be the best room on the property because you have a corner view with a wraparound porch and the vistas day and night are stunning. She had 7L and she loved it as well. Our room was cleaned thoroughly every day and everything worked perfectly. The shower was awesome. A lot of times in an older property things are a bit creaky but our room was perfect (once we figured out how to turn off the temperature light on the AC at night). The only tweak I'd make to our room would be to add a ceiling fan, but that's just a personal preference. We had massages at the spa and that was nice. I had a great masseur and enjoyed relaxing in the hot tub in the spa afterwards. There is an indoor pool area with a jacuzzi and an outdoor hot tub. Apparently there used to be an outdoor pool but that was removed a couple of years back. That would have been nice. We ate at the View, the Cottage and the bar and I've reviewed the restaurants separately. The bar was a great place for some shared snacks and desserts along with excellent cocktails and wonderful service. I loved just sitting on a rocking chair in a small screened in porch off the main lobby reading a book. It was so peaceful. The study area has tables and a fireplace and that was a wonderful setting to write cards to friends. As you can tell, we loved it here. There are some caveats: It's not cheap (though it's worth it, in my opinion) and parts of the main building are a bit worn and/or dated. However, the service is great from everyone, the place is spotless and comfortable and the vibe is exceptional. I've never wanted to stay any place longer as much as I wanted to stay at Mirror Lake Inn. I really want to come back in winter to see what it's like. This was simply a lovely experience from beginning to end. read more

We could not have chosen a more romantic, classic, place to stay. Every detail was astonishing. Professional, friendly and capable staff. Exceptionally clean. We utilized nearly every aspect available; sauna, hot tub (jets weren't working but maintanrnceccamevprompltly snd did their best) pool, sat by the fire for coffee in one living room snd played checkers in the other one. Dined across the street in the more casual dinner option and had breakfast in the Inn. Admired ALL the antiques, art, plants and sculptures. We're it not raining, we surely would have visited each outdoor fire pit. We still managed a walk around the Lake, a walk to the Olympic museum and a nearby hike at Mt. Jo. EVERYTHING was perfect INCLUDING the surprise chocolate and champagne for our anniversary! Absolutely smitten. read more

We were "greeted" by the hostess asking if we were staying at the Inn and when we said no, she asked "why not?". We were staying at Hotel Saranac for sentimental reasons but my husband had made reservations at The View for my birthday dinner. After being seated, our server was pushy on selling the most expensive items and was intrusive. He can't read the room and should learn to in a place like this!! My husband did get the most expensive item but it was a tasteless piece of meat, he had a better steak at the Campfire restaurant at Hotel Saranac, with better service and half the price!! The food is ok but it's pricey. It should be much better. We have been here before, in fact, brought our whole family last Xmas for dinner. The room overlooked the lake and there was ample space with a sitting area to enjoy the view. I can't say enough wonderful things about our experience. Mirror Lake Inn has helped me check off a childhood dream to jump off a floating dock in the Adirondack Mountains. Took my girlfriend to Lake Placid for her birthday weekend, and I needed a real gem of a hotel to impress her. This place is great! Beautiful lobby with complimentary tea and coffee, not to mentioned a fabulous fireplace/lounge area! The view from our room was outstanding, and the customer service was impeccable. I lost a really expensive snowboarding glove, and the staff found it and put it in their lost and found! Score! This hotel is also located steps from Lake Placid's main drag of shops and restaurants. Positives: Beautiful room. Room 831 - Mountain View Top Floor - super clean. Cookies at the desk were excellent. My husband took one every time he walked by :) Staff are amazing and friendly. Attentive. Grounds were great, well maintained. Could not have picked a better 3 days. Weather was great. Spa was excellent - not busy. Outdoor and indoor pool were as advertised and enjoyable. Plenty of towels. Not so positive: View from our room was less than stellar. See photo. I would recommend this room be listed at a lower level due to obstructed views. Those with ambulation issues should be sure to get a room that does not require steps and walking up or down the hill area. That being said, many hotels here are on a hill of some type. Lastly, during the summer, bring eye covers to sleep, the sun came through each morning, and we had to leave the curtains open for the air conditioner. It is a historic place (100yr old) in mirror lake, but that's about it.. We spent about $750 per night here, but we were so underwhelmed that we wanted to switch the hotel after the first night (but we couldn't due to their hotel policy - cancellation 48 hours prior to arrival) Pros 1. swimming pool, jacuzzi, mini gym and spa available 2. well decorated lobby (lobby ONLY) 3. lake view (you get to see the mirror lake from the hotel room) - if you paid more tsk tsk cons 1. extremely underwhelmed room 2. spider webs and dead bugs everywhere around the windows that you don't want to open the windows (made us think that they do not really take care of the property, but charge people so much for the rooms.. really?) 3. overpriced food (room service from restaurants called the cottage and the view, but food was meh) 4. staff - not so friendly There are many places to stay around mirror lake.. Service: some of the most urgent and effective service I've ever received, rivals some premiere NYC hotels. What is most impressive though is the employees seem genuinely proud to be here and happy to help. Troy delivered our room service from cottage (part of property but not in our building) came in 15 minutes and with a smile. April servicing the 6th floor housekeeping was available, attentive, and lovely. For those who dock their review over the 8% service charge #1 read your bill #2 these people are very good at what they do and deserve more than 8%. I constantly saw employees (non-invasively) cleaning and tidying; one time the elevator opened and one of the staff members in a black blazer was shining the interior elevator stainless steel features. Also impressive is how *every* team member from front desk, to spa, to pool technician, to house keeping, to managers, to wait staff, etc are all exceptional. Food: The View - restaurant attached to property was great for breakfast. Demir was also exceptional, and again seemed genuinely happy to be there. I appreciated how all members of the staff (maître d, owners, servers, busers) were equally present and eager to help. The Cottage - across the street, such a nice cozy spot out of the center of downtown, can really appreciate the view. Amenities: as I said to Tony in the pool/hottub I have no clue how they keep an indoor, warm, wet climate so clean. Zero mold. Zero rotting of the wood items. So impressive. Not a big indoor pool fan but as a mom, I appreciate the joy it brings to kids and families and what a great option to break up your day without needing to leave the property. Decor: the people reviewing negatively about the dated decor cracks me up. I agree there are some carpets and decor features that are dated and as someone who was here just for a wedding sure, not my favorite. But from my convos and observations the bulk of their clientele are repeat customers who adore the traditional and familiar decor. The really neat historic photos & memorabilia also clearly stamp that this IS the vibe they're going for. And nothing is "dated" that negatively impacts your experience; tv, windows, bathroom, kitchenettes, all updated. This place has so much history and families who value their traditions, I appreciate & respect that. And the lobby (here at Christmas time) is absolutely charming. One final note, I read reviews of this place before coming and the managers named 9000x to just tell them the feedback and they'll fix it. Glad I got the bowl, especially since I planned on something light to follow. And it proved too good for just a cup anyway. Now it became a choice between the flat bread pizza or the Cucumber Basil egg salad. I went with the latter. Made with basil, scallions, and cucumber. $14.75 -Served with a side of toasted baguette and sliced tomato. I will be copying this concoction at home! Tomato slices were fresh, firm and delicious, as was the baguette. They had a very nice draft beer selection too. I went with the Northway perfect day Pilsner. Tasty, crisp, and refreshing. . My wife got the APRICOT CHICKEN SALAD SANDWICH- $14.75 All white meat chicken tossed with dried apricots, sliced almonds, scallions and sesame ginger mayonnaise. Served on hearty grain bread with lettuce and tomato. Another great choice. Did I mention the service was great too? Prompt, polite, and friendly. All in all an excellent summer lunch. We just returned from celebrating our anniversary at the Inn. We enjoyed the Inn, Amenities, and Staff so much that we extended our reservation an additional night. The Inn is wonderful and all areas (room, restaurants (View and Cottage) sitting areas, exercise room, beach/boathouse/docks) are all well maintained and clean. The entire staff at all locations (front desk, housekeeping, restaurants, boathouse, gift shop, grounds/pool maintenance are all very welcoming, personable, and always ready to assist if needed with a greeting and a smile. The food at the View and the Cottage was delicious and delightfully presented. We have previously stayed and/or dined at the MLI numerous times over the years going back to the 1980's and look forward to future visits. read more

I was extremely impressed with the services during Covid - and my room had the most gorgeous view of the lake. There is no traditional room service but will deliver breakfast in a to go bag. I would highly recommend the breakfast sandwich, the meat changes daily but the Canadian bacon egg sandwich was so (so) good. read more

This place has been here forever and it looks like it. The prices have kept up with the times and you will pay an arm and a leg. The rooms are spacious but dated. The library area is a fun cozy spot to enjoy. The spa isn't great and the salt bath experience is a giant waste of time. The good news is it is close to town and has a great view. The other negative is its not very stroller accessible. You have to walk down a steep hill if you want to take the stroller out and walk into town. The front desk person said that is the only option. Anyway, the Mirror Lake is a cool nostalgic place perfect if you are going skiing on the nearby mountain. A little overpriced but it is what it is. read more

For years we have heard about the Mirror Lake Inn and how wonderful it was- This month we got to finally spend a weekend away and celebrated a special Anniversary!! When we arrived there was a beautiful welcome gift in our room to help kick our weekend off - such a wonderful touch!! Our room was AMAZING!! We were on the top floor overlooking the lake- wonderful sliding glass door to take in the beautiful scenery!! Watching the sunrise was a wonderful way to start each day!! We also had a gas fireplace In our room which really made our stay wonderful!! Room service was by request- but Linda went to get us wine glasses- she brought both white and red glasses as she wanted to be sure we had what we needed! The common spaces within the hotel are plentiful!! So many cozy areas to sit and take in the scenery- or warm up by the fire - or just sit and talk and enjoy a glass of wine! The bar staff was amazing- they know their drinks and will even create something special based on your spirit preferences! The food- Over the top - Wonderful- incredible flavor combinations!! I highly recommend getting their meal package- breakfast each morning and one dinner- we'll worth it!!! We attended Chef Curtis' Culinary Weekend!! Such a great experience- 2 - 3 hr cooking classes- right at the hotel! Chef did all the cooking - and we got to watch - ask questions and enjoy the wonderful food prepared for us!! Lastly since it was cold we ordered food from the Cottage (across the street) and enjoyed lunch sitting in the bar overlooking the lake! The indoor pool and Hot tub are amazing!! Awful, just awful.... Our excitement to stay here lasted about five minutes. From a very cold and impersonal check in, to seeing our $500 room and looking at each other in disbelief. We felt we were in a time warp, and not in a good way. Not sure how many decades ago this place was built but I don't think it has seen a lick of paint since new. From threadbare carpets to wood trim all scratched and dinged to antiquated everything, it's painful to see. Even the TV in our room was so old I couldn't download EPSN to watch the US Open since DirecTV had a Disney blackout. No complimentary water, no coffee maker in the room, it's beyond basic. The only positive, other than the view, was that the manager allowed us to get out of there after just one night and refunded the rest of our stay. I'm sure management will refute much of this, but it's not subjective, it is all fact for anyone to see. I have pondered writing this review for two years. I was a loyal patron for over a decade and loved the place down to the ritual of the best warm chocolate chip cookies after a 5 hour drive. Well.... the chocolate chip cookies are no longer warm or home made and the attitude has become comical. Without ripping the place for becoming dated and overpriced the restaurant dress code is a joke for a ski lodge. My tale is very simple. As guests of the hotel our group of 3 made reservations and were told we would not be seated at the restaurant because of our casual attire. A $300 dollar saint Laurent hoody was unacceptable . And I gotta tell ya. You are a friggen ski lodge not le cirque. So we went to the lake placid lodge that night which seated us with no problem whatsoever. We have stayed at the Inn for many years and something missing. It still has one of the best locations with gorgeous views and charming interiors , but the food and beverages has not lived up to a first class Inn. The pandemic took it's toll and I assume that is at the root of the current situation. For instance , whether you choose the breakfast buffet or the menu, no omelets are available. The food in general is just mediocre, not in line with the first class Inn they portray. . Still a vey charming Inn , just eat elsewhere. read more

Just spent long weekend up at Lake Placid, had dinner at the inn and it had to be in my top 5 best food experiences Had the special(halibut),absolutely cooked perfectly fish melted in your mouth, service was great, had a great table which faced out onto Mirror lake, hotel still had up some Christmas lights but not a lot just enough to be tasteful, we were their week of the 40 th anniversary of the Olympic's . 2 of us had their homemade ice cream for dessert, so clean and soft to the palette, I know ice cream but really Light not heavy. Our head waiter was Hanna, but they had a server come around to clean crumbs from table after each serving,another one filling your water glass as it got half empty. Booked this hotel on the recommendations from our friends that in their late 70's early 80's (years of age). After the hellish drive from Burlington, VT, we arrived and were greeted by a few young ladies at the check-in desk that were very kind. Their supervisor a not so nice lady hoovered in the background listening and appeared to make sure that the young girls were saying the correct thing. When we looked at the lobby, it was rustic? In its day it must have been simply marvelous! But after over 100 years, it is dated and not what we were expecting for over $750 a night! We made it to the room in another building in the back and the hallways were dark and décor still the rustic 1940-1950 era. The entry doors to the building had not been cleaned in years and were so dirty you didn't want to touch them. Ok, so we are in a sky lodge resort that Mrs. Maisel from Amazon Prime show would have enjoyed during the 1950s. The place needs updated, cleaned, painted, and refurbished if they want to continue to charge this kind of money. The only plus side was location to walk to the downtown shops and food establishments. The Mirror Lake Inn restaurant had a dress code that also mirror the 1950s. The room we had overlooked the front of the lodge and the driveway leading up the hill and past the firepit and corn-hole boards. The wall unit a/c either ran (loudly) or you turned it off. I think investing in modern A/C should also be considered for $750 a night. The unit reviled Motel 6 type units, window unit inserted in the wall nest to the sliding glass door. It did have a refrigerator for drinks that we bought at a local market. We booked a fishing trip with a guild and that was wonderful. Not through the hotel but on our own prior to arriving. The entire lodge is from an era gone by, and if you like that type of thing good for you. When our airplane schedule change the mean desk manager that hoovered when we arrived told us we would have to forfeit the $750 for the last day if we changed our plans since we had booked this trip back 5 months ago. She said she had to turn people away so we couldn't get our refund and that was it. So we stayed the extra last night and got up at 3 am to drive the 2.5 hours to the airport for our flight instead of leaving 1 day early and staying closer to the airport. Zero customer service based on that allow. Who likes driving in the middle of the night on curvy roads with no other traffic or cars! Well we didn't have a choice and the Mirror Inn Lodge got their $750.00 for the 3 hours of that day we were forced to stay or loose the money. Not what we expected for all the money and the other reviews we read. Very Underwhelmed.....48 hours before arrival to change plans with todays airlines scheduling!!!! When our friends were young 50-60 years ago it must have been a great place. Even then they said they could never afford to stay there...they didn't miss much. I upgraded my rating from a 1 star to a 2 star because they did have cookies in the lobby which was great until I seen some peoples kids touching all of them so that too was ruined. read more

What first strikes you is the amazing smell of the fire burning as you walk up the steps to check in. There is seating that allows you to cozy up around the fire or take a seat with Mirror Lake and the mountains in front of you. The staff is warm and very helpful. The rooms are clean, spotless almost. I had a wonderful view of the Lake and a gas fireplace in my room that I adored putting on every day of my almost 2 week stay. I also spent a day in the spa and It was a very relaxing day. Heather's facial was amazing and I loved the Eucalyptus steam room and hot tub. We stayed overnight and it took them forever to get our room ready. 4:00 p.m. guarantee and room was ready at 3:30 p.m. Jonathan, the front desk clerk, is snobbish and unfriendly, quick with a hard comeback when you ask a simple question and he tended to look down on us. Pros great view, very pretty huge jacuzzi, nice pool, great rustic surroundings Cons Overpriced restaurant at the bottom of the hill. $20.00 for a simple sandwich! and they don't change menus, same menu for dinner as for lunch. Snobby front desk clerk Jonathan Confusing layout, we got lost several times. You have to take an elevator to the 2nd floor, walk through dark, horrible lit halls (looks like a haunted house) and take another elevator down to the first floor to get to your first floor room. All this, while trying to navigate by badly marked signage with each elevator having differently marked buttons. Very, very confusing, bad layout, dark and dingy sconce lighting and terrible way finding signage. Tight parking lots, with steep hills and sharp-winding turns. read more

My husband and I had planned to stay in one of the Adirondack suites for his birthday. We had stayed in the main hotel in September 2021 and wanted to come back to experience Mirror Lake again. We checked in earlier today and went for a stroll in town followed by an early dinner. After dinner, my husband wanted to use the jacuzzi and began to draw the water, however, he noticed the tub was not just dirty, but was filthy. There was hair in the tub, and outside the tub, which was neither his nor mine. He called me into the restroom and I looked for myself. I took pictures (see attached). I called the front desk to complain. Initially, the receptionist kept me on hold for 8-9 minutes. I hung up and called back. She apologized and offered to have someone come to clean the tub and a minimal monetary credit for our stay. I questioned whether the room was actually sanitized as they claimed on their website and also verbally. The maintenance man came and was shocked to see the the tub in its condition and also apologized. He didn't wish to clean the tub as he thought it was best to leave it so the daytime manager can see for himself/herself. We were refunded our deposit for the stay and decided to check into another local lodge. Needless to say, we will not be guests at the Mirror Lake Inn again. read more

The pictures of this inn look beautiful on the site and the views cant do this place justice! This is prob the best place to stay in lake placid. The rooms are very old and lighting is awful...and they do not come to clean your room everyday. Not sure if its due to Covid but you need to call for towels, toilet paper, kleenex etc....we loved the fact that you can rent kayaks and paddleboats free of charge and the lake itself is so clean and beautiful. The restaurant the Cottage had great food and scenic views. I would recommend this place for a 4 day stay after that you really need to venture out elsewhere. The Mirror Lake Inn is a special place. They strive for the highest level across the board - food, service, ambiance, guest satisfaction, etc.. They exceed all expectations. It starts at the very top. The owners have installed a work ethic and a desire to serve in their son that is seldom seen from someone so accomplished. Where else can you witness your orange juice being brought to your table by a two time Olympic Medalist. What's even more impressive, he knows this is "not about him." It's about the experience he and his staff can create for their guests. Many of which frequently return year after year. I am blessed to have this gem of a resort within a two hour drive. But the distance wouldn't stop me from coming here - even if I was ten hours away. I'm in the food business. So I recognize excellence and I always appreciate it. Bring your appetite. We were treated to a stay by my husband's company and having stayed at Mirror Lake Inn on our honeymoon ages ago, knew it would be lovely. This time, however, we were blown away! Huge suite with a screened sunroom next to a bubbling waterfall! Rice plantation bed with soft down pillows, enormous bathroom with lighting so good that it was probably the first time I was able to do my makeup in a hotel room and not be horrified with the results! I would rate this place one of the nicest accommodations I have ever stayed. I was sent here for work and had to stay for about three weeks, but it felt like home. My room felt like a cozy log cabin with a separate room with a fireplace and seating area and desk. The bathroom was enormous with a jacuzzi. The pool felt like a relaxing, trickling stream, but was large enough to swim laps. They have a nice sauna and hot tub. The workout room had everything you could need. It is a resort so I'm sure all of these things are standard. I just felt like a king. It's close by Main Street which has anything you need. It's close by trails and hiking. It's definitely a contender if you plan a stay at Lake Placid. I feel like the prices are competitive with the other hotels. The service was spot on and they never missed a chance asking if we needed anything. I would definitely go back. read more

If they would let me move in here...well I would. Lovely location on Mirror Lake. What's not to like when you're able to look out at the lake (from your room, from the lobby, from dinner (you get my drift here) and watch how the sunsetting casts the sky into colors of rose, purple and gold. It's indescribable and deeply peaceful. Spa on site (but with hit or miss masseurs/services - they do need more consistency here when they're charging at these rates), year round indoor and seasonal outdoor (heated) pool, on-site parking (but can be tight on busy holidays), lake access, in town so walkable to Main Street (shops, restaurants, movies, etc.). Rooms are nicely decorated and most have been updated in the last few years. Really amazing place but best to avoid big holidays as it can be overrun and just too noisy and crowded to really enjoy. read more

We enjoyed our stay. The staff told us we had a "partially obstructed" view of the lake. Your know what? It was amazing!! There was a tree off to one side which just added to the beauty. The hotel did a great job with COVID safety. The rooms are cleaned, sealed, and dated with stickers so when we entered the room we knew it was clean. One of the other reviews mentioned spiderwebs and salt in the carpet. Our room was amazingly clean -I always do a dust check and there was none. Everything was clean clean clean. Even the remote control and phone had been cleaned and wrapped in plastic. There was a mini fridge in the room which we stocked with drinks and snacks from the local grocery store. One detail I appreciate is the bathroom had a separate thermostat so we could make it toasty warm, and a reinforced shower curtain bar, so we could put our wet snow pants and gloves in the bathroom to dry. Every single member of staff greeted us as we walked around the facility to make sure we had a great stay. We will definitely be back next year. read more

Wife and I stayed one night there a couple weeks ago. Beautiful room with great view. Expensive but that is expected in this town this time of year. Although this is the first time we stayed overnight here we have eaten here (The View) several times. The service has always been great and the food exceptional, except for this time. Very disappointing meal. It's always expensive here but we only eat here once a year so don't mind paying for an exceptional meal. We both ordered the pork shank for our entre. Have to say it was not worth the $52 price. Basic meat which was cooked well but had little flavor. There was no sauce to add to the flavor and just some tasteless rice that accompanied the pork. Very disappointing. They did provide us with a free dessert when we explained our dissatisfaction with the meal. We will probably go back again next year to give them another chance but I wouldn't recommend the pork shank. read more

Mirror Lake Inn is a great establishment. From the time of check in and through out. I witnessed the poor staff at the desk take a beating from a guest that just didn't get that we are in different times and we must all behave accordingly. The staff were as courteous and professional as can be. I commend them. The place is spotless and they deserve kudos for being able to progress and keep their standards during this difficult period. read more

Always the Best! After having to cancel 2 major trips this year, we wanted to get away . In this age of COVID , there was only one place we would go. A place that u can trust for being conscientious & with a commitment to excellence!! That is Mirror Lake Inn. We've come to Mirror Lake Inn many times since our honeymoon 27yrs ago & stayed in many different accommodations from regular rooms ( which are great ) to beautiful suites. All are top shelf, beautifully decorated,service is excellent, restaurants wonderful...I could go on & on . But this time , one thing stands out.....they do COVID well!! The process changes to protect: from breakfast delivered with speed & perfection, the View cleanliness & screening, imposing limitations where needed, the new firepit.....all where terrific.
