Staying at Whiteface Lodge was very nice. This is an upscale lodge/resort in the middle of the ADK. This place has a lot to offer. The amenities and service was what made it special. Anything we needed, accommodations were made to make sure the guest felt happy. I really appreciate the effort put in to making the guest feel comfortable and exclusive. The lodge has the quintessential Adirondacks log cabin feeling but with an elevated elegance. The grounds are very nice. There are two large outdoor fire pits that are lit every night. Complimentary s'more's supplies are provided for guests every evening. The game room was also really cool and a nice place to relax with friends and family. The room I stayed in was very nice as well. A full kitchen, fire place, and patio. The bathroom had heated floors and a massive soaking tub. Been wanting to visit for years. Finally came, very disappointed. Not worth the money at all per night, no where near it! Grounds were beautiful, and Mate at the front desk was wonderful! However, our tub wouldn't drain properly, the faucet in the kitchen was broken, the door to the balcony wouldn't lock. The hot tubs and heated pool which was the main thing that sold us were lukewarm and honestly looked dirty and disgusting and packed with small children. The food was also extremely disappointing. A lot of fried food, even our Caesar salad was so pathetic. My husband and I have NO idea why or how KANU received a Michelin star. Why is the gentleman handling the pizza and bread baskets not wearing gloves?? Food was lukewarm, veggies were so hard, and they were always out of the main courses and deserts you would want. Honestly felt a bit dirty if we're being completely honest. Asked a waiter if they had champagne and they didn't know difference between prosecco or champagne ... at a Michelin restaurant?? From what we saw, place is understaffed as in waitress also bartending which shouldn't be, Save your money. Place def needs a serious revamp. read more

Whiteface Lodge is located in the heart of the Adirondacks and it's a very well run, nice lodge. The staff was helpful, attentive. There is always someone available to bring your bags to and from the room when checking in and out, there is also a valet parking service which we didn't end up utilizing since the parking lot was very close and it was warm however it's nice to have in the winter time. The accommodations were very spacious, we had a big tub, kitchen area which we utilized nightly as we cooked most of our meals with the oven/stovetop. When they come to clean/make the bed they also do the dishes which was very nice. There are lots of amenities including heated pool, bowling alley, pickleball and tennis courts, movie theater, gym, complimentary smores and cookies. We did try one of the two restaurants available on site, Peak 47, which was quite disappointing would advise to venture out into the town for food. However otherwise a great experience/stay, would recommend! read more

Nothing works, save your money.. Whomever or Whatever group owns this place its a melting ice cube.. Property, facilities have not been cared for properly, pool/hot-tubs/sauna were all broken.. No more fires lit in the Kanu Restaurant, tile falling off of pool/hot-tubs, elevator broken down, kids in adult hot tub, etc, etc.. Staff all very nice, but I actually felt bad for them knowing significant mismanagement is taking place & them making excuses.. read more

We arrived here after driving 2 days and it was so comfortable & staff was so accommodating! It is very classy yet not 'snobby'. Very dark at night! The trees had lights on & pumpkins everywhere - so cute! We had a 2 bedroom suite with 2 bathrooms. King suite was upstairs so very private! Private balcony and so quiet that we heard no other guests! Full kitchen that only lacked paper towels! We had all appliances, including washing machine! Beds are super comfy but pillows are down so a little flat- you can easily get more. Breakfast was included so we ate there or carried out every day. Most everything was good, but the pastries were world-class! So many flaky layers & different each day - you must get them! Coffee & tea bar open daily for good amounts of time. Lobby floors & master bath floors are heated, which I loved! We went to the ice cream shop, watched a movie (Grease!) and used the game room several times! Bowling was so fun, but loud! Loved it! Fitness facilities were great! Pools & hot tubs are plentiful & indoor/outdoor heated, very nice! We played putt-putt golf, cornhole, pickleball, watched guys play tennis. We went to the campfires & made s'mores a few times. Played games by the fire/in the cigar lean-to. Oh yeah - got tandem massage and it was so good! My masseuse was strong but smooth, talked with me first & did exactly what I needed! So we did all of the things and we enjoyed hanging in our room, spending time together, it was just wonderful! With food & drinks readily available, and drive to Lake Placid downtown was quick. This may be a regular thing we do! read more

I love this place. This is our second time back, and I love this place more and more. The property is amazing. It's got a very rustic log cabin feeling. It is a bit dim inside, but that's kind of the appeal. We stayed for one night and got to enjoy the fantastic list of amenities that the property provides. Check-in was seamless. The property does have 4 electric charging stations. 2 outside and 2 inside in the garage. The two outside were taken, so I had the valet take my car to charge it inside. The two valets, Billy and Alex, were very nice. Yvette checked us in and gave us room 115. Which was the same exact room as last year! The rooms are very nicely done. Has a full kitchen and a washer and dryer. Although the washer and dryer combo is a ventless unit so don't expect to do entire loads in there. They do have a complementary laundry facility if you are staying for a long period and need to get more loads done. Now that we checked in we had a quick bite to eat at Peak 47. It's a pretty nice bar restaurant. They have a pretty extensive drinks menu but not so extensive food menu. It think this might have been the biggest disappointment for me. There was pretty much a few appetizers, a few hand helds, and some pizza choices. The kids' menu is pretty extensive, though. Last year, they offered steak on the menu but removed it for this year. We ordered a kids steak, a pizza and a burger for me. The food was good and the service was very quick. Which was surprising since they seemed to be understaffed. This place has a fantastic list of amenities that the kids will enjoy. They have three movies showing at their quasi theater. Fresh popcorn is free. Free smores from 6:30 until 9:30. Free bowling and game room. The bowling you have to sign up for. They have two cute little lanes! An outside pool and an inside pool with 3 heated jacuzzi. The water was a tad bit cold this trip. But it feels amazing to be outside in a jacuzzi staring up at the sky with snow flakes falling. Free breakfast if you book from their website. The breakfast is in the Kanu dining room. The breakfast buffett is very nice. It was two pancake options, two protein options, eggs, oatmeal, fresh fruit, pastries etc. Not the most options that I have seen at a breakfast buffett, but it was very nicely done. Overall, we really had a great time at the Whiteface Lodge. You can tell they are slightly understaffed...likely due to the effects from the pandemic. But all the staff that I have encountered were extremely polite and went out of their way to make sure that we were taken care of. We look forward to our trip next year! read more

We stayed here for our honeymoon. Checked in on a Sunday. Upon arrival, we were greeted by valet who offered to get our luggage to our room. The staff were very polite and friendly. We had room 108 which was basically an apartment. The kitchen/dining room has a microwave,stove,dishwasher,fridge with separate freezer,dining room table,couch and two chairs. There is a gas fireplace with a timer controller for 10-20-30-60 mins. You also have a back porch with wicker chairs that looks out to the courtyard. The bathroom has a jet tub with very powerful shower and two sinks. There is also a washer/dryer for laundry. There is a laundry room as well or you can put it out for the staff to take care of. Every morning you'll get a daily itinerary sheet of paper slid under your door. There are two restaurants on the second floor. Kanu and Peak 47. Peak 47 has a bar that will serve drinks for both restaurants or you can take it to your room. Speaking of the bar. Besides the convenience our bartender Mariah was absolutely awesome. She killed it. They have top shelf bourbons and whiskeys. I'll include the price sheet in the pics. The food menu is limited but again it's all about convenience. We had the truffle Parmesan fries and burgers. Very delicious. They have craft beers and domestics. As well as any mixed drink you'd like to enjoy. The twin fireplaces add a ton to the experience. It was warm and cozy the entire time. As for the lodge amenities. They have a spa,barber shop,ice cream shop,game room and bowling lanes. The hot tubs and heated pool were absolutely fantastic. Nothing like 20°F and a hot tub. You have a beautiful view of Whiteface Mountain with the snow capped pine trees in the distance. They supply towels and have a rinse off shower. They have movies every day in the theater and make popcorn for you to grab a bag. There is another wing of the lodge near the pool that has a wedding reception room and two huge fireplaces that they light around 5pm and the staff constantly loads firewood for you. And they offer smores kits at the front desk! By the way you can take the underground halls to get to the pool building wing if you don't want to venture in the cold/rain or snow. I'm probably forgetting something. I love this place. As far as the town of Lake Placid on Main Street, there is a Starbucks,and we found an olive oil store with so many great options and also a popcorn store that has the best kettle corn! This town has so much history. It feels great to be in a town the Olympics have been in twice. We passed by the long jump buildings and ramps. We didn't get to see anyone jump but how cool is that!?! There's a grocery store and pharmacy literally across the street from the Lodge entrance. The convenience of that is great if you want to grab small items or even cook for yourself in your room. Two things I recommend doing. Drive to Whiteface Mountain and have a beer and a pretzel while you watch the skiers and snowboarders come down the mountain if you plan on skiing or snowboarding. The drive is about 18 mins from the lodge and it's gorgeous. The trees and streams were so incredible to see. The second thing is take a drive to Saranac Lake and see the Ice Castle! They allow volunteers to help build and maintain it. They actually cut ice from the lake and use heavy equipment to place the blocks of ice. I've included photos. I feel like I could keep going on about the place but I should let you see for yourself. One more thing. If I was to gripe about anything, it would be the lodge is a little outdated but not enough to not love this place. My family had an incredible experience in Dec 2025. The place just oozed Christmas spirit. Decorations all over with mother nature helping with a light snow daily. From the room, restaurants, game room, skating, heated outdoor pool, bowling, valet service, letters to Santa, live music, and smores, just GREAT! One of the best family trips we have had. Pool is freezing cold, heater is broken with no eta to a fix or urgency about it when asked. The 47 restaurant is closed, but sort of exists in the basement, and the phone in our room doesn't work. Hanging by the pool was the main draw for us, so it's really a bummer. Room is nice. read more

Wow - what a spectacular place! Beautiful upscale rustic lodge with friendly people working there & just a fantastic place to stay. It is located close to town (not walkable though). We had the superior 1 bedroom suite & it did not disappoint! Large king size bed with an open living room & kitchen with 1 1/2 baths including a gas fireplace & large outdoor space. It was decorated so nicely & had so many nice things about it like robes & slippers & a stocked freezer full of 3 bags of ice! Nightly firepits were continuously stocked w/wood & the place offered S'More's kits. Only 1 restaurant was open during COVID - Peak & we enjoyed dinner there one night. Unfortunately the bowling alley, arcade, & ice cream parlor were closed but that leaves me something to look forward to the next time I stay here! read more

This hotel runs their website in misleading ways, and is SCAMMY. Manager Garrett Vermette : DO BETTER. My husband and I stayed here last September for our honeymoon. Just a quick google search on this place, one of the first things you see on the google page is about their "packages". I wanted something really special for our stay, so I clicked on "Ultimate Luxury Package" - which claims to include couples massage, dinner at KANU, and other various included services. I clicked "Book this package", which directly took me to booking my dates of stay, and then that was it! I was so excited to enjoy my honeymoon & everything else I was led to believe would be included with our stay! Upon trying to check in, i had to deal with an array of issues with their computer system. I was told originally I didn't have a room there, then they charged my card twice & refunded it back to me twice, until it finally got corrected. I ask about the ultimate luxury package we ordered... and we're told it doesn't exist! I know I'm not losing my mind - so I pull up their website & show them the "ultimate luxury package" page, & show how you can book it. I'm told "oh we haven't offered those packages in years, we keep trying to tell the manager Garrett Vermette to remove the page but he doesn't". I spoke to another employee the next day & she told me that she & fellow employees have started a petition for management to change this, and nothing was being done. Now at this point, what was supposed to be a relaxing honeymoon has turned into stress & anger, and I feel like I have been duped. As someone who is trying to keep within a budget on their honeymoon, I now have to pay more money for services that I was led to believe were already included in my original price. And basically I just had to suck it up, as the hotel did not care and decided they could do nothing for me to make up for the inconvenience of their bad & misleading practices. I am not the only person that this has happened to. I emailed Garrett Vermette, and of course no reply at all! The level of disregard is just embarrassing, honestly. It's sad that amongst the beautiful place of Lake Placid, the lack of customer service from the management & front desk of the whiteface lodge has to leave such a bad taste in your mouth. The hotel is beautiful, and they would have so much potential if they would just put in the effort. 5 months later after my stay, I can see now that when you click on the packages page it says "page not found". So I am glad they have finally stopped luring people in with fake packages. But none of this should have happened in the first place. Decent customer service would have at least made the experience better for me... But just the fact alone that they operated this way & I had to deal with this, I will never come here again. Our families love coming to Whiteface Lodge for vacation. Our preferred season is winter, because there are so many things to do, and it is a beautiful time of year. It is about 15-20 minutes from Whiteface, but between the pool, skating rink, movie theater, and game room, six adults and five children were more than entertained... you never have to leave. Even if you don't ice skate, highly recommend checking out the yurt for hot chocolate, fires, and good times. The indoor/outdoor pool is really nice and the kids also loved the bowling alley. Be advised, you do have to reserve the alley ahead of time, and you are only allowed an hour before it turns over to someone else. The rooms, while I do think they have seen better days and have experienced some wear and tear, are spacious and clean. Staff is so accommodating and friendly; for everything you hear about being unable to hire and staff shortages, you wouldn't know it there. The food at the breakfast buffet and also at the Kanu restaurant was great. I do think their spa sucks. My husband and I went for a couples massage and it was the most disappointing experience. My masseuse (male) did not seem proficient in massage therapy and there was no grace or skill to the massage. It was 50 minutes of randomly being pressed down on... no method to the madness, as they say. For the cost of the massage plus a tip, it was entirely disappointing. My husband felt the same. So we've been staying here for years. Once during the summer and once during the winter. I have to say, the cleanliness of this place has significantly decreased. First, there were dirty dishes in the cabinets and pans with caked on food in the oven. The rugs were not vacuumed or cleaned because there were pieces of old food on the carpet. I almost called the front desk to request new sheets to be sure they were clean but decided against it. Please provide better services to your paying guests. Whatever you do, do not eat there! It's overpriced and tasteless. You are better off buying food from the grocery store nearby and cooking it yourself! read more

Thankfully the rest of our stay made up for our first day here but I definitely think things could have went better. Upon arriving we were about 2 hours early for check in. Since we just drove close to 6 hours we figured we would see if our room was ready. The girl at the desk was not very welcoming. She said it wasn't ready and she'd call us when it was. We got back into our car and felt confused. Why didn't she take our bags , tell us what else we can do while we waited. So we ended up talking with the boys outside and they happily took our bags and told us they would bring them right up once our room was ready. We circled around and around trying to find things. We finally find the spot to eat and they charge us 15$ extra on top of the already expensive bill for room service ? Finally we find a cozy room to hang out in until our room was ready. The room was huge and seemed very clean. Full kitchen, living room with fireplace, pretty big bathroom ( shower heads need to be changed) and bedroom with a balcony. View was nice and we caught a nice sunset and was able to watch the snow fall. They have plenty of towels and extra blankets. Kitchen was filled with plates cups utensils which was a nice plus. We venture back outside to go to the pool to find it's not working due to a power surge. We ended the day feeling pretty bummed and with no power from 11pm-morning. Thankfully the next day everything was looking up. The pool was back working , our lights were on , we ate a very good breakfast that was included with the room rate, and they had an ice skating rink with a yurt to borrow skates for free. Again due to lack of welcoming on our first day. We were unaware that the pool building was connected to our hotel building. So we put on our bathing suits along with snow boots and winter jackets and walked outside across to the pool. Come to find out we could have walked through the inside in our robes to the pool. Buttt at least we learned that on the end of day 2. Also depending on what time you went.. the pools and hot tubs were filled with kids. Even in the adult hot tubs. Thankfully many cleared out and we were able to enjoy the hot tub for a few hours our last two days. Lunch and dinner at peak 47 was always a good experience moving forward. They were being very thorough when cleaning each table. Even with a limited menu they had a bunch of good items to pick from. The pizzas were huge, the Adirondack beer on tap was very good. A lot of wine to choice from. Fireplaces inside made it very cozy. Kanu for breakfast was always really good. The room it is in is absolutely beautiful. We had a few services done at the spa. The woman working were very very friendly and we enjoyed our time. The massages were very good , room were very clean, I tried the hydra facial and she did an excellent job. She took her time with each step. My skin looked awesome for almost a week. Due to covid we couldn't enjoy the rest of the spa but that is out of their control and just went to the hot tub for a few hours instead. On our last day the front desk gave us complimentary s'mores kits. We sat outside and roasted them. We met some people there and you were able to smoke cigars and hang out with a great view of the ice skating rink. The last morning before we left we found some trails to walk and we're able to get some really cool pictures while the snow fell. In the end we did have a very nice relaxing time together. The place is really beautiful , the hot tub outside was one of the biggest reasons why we picked this place. But First impressions are soooo important. If we were told where to eat, how to get around and about the trails. I think we would have gotten so much more out of this experience. Especially for the rate! I probably will not come back due to our first day but I think it's a good place for families because of the game rooms, bowling , ice skating etc. read more

Overall, I had a great time! Beautiful cool weather, well maintained and very clean. Seemed to adapt to covid ways well! - extremely disappointed what I bought (which I spent a lot of money on) was NOT what I got. The screen grab I took said my room was to have a bathtub. Mine did not. Problem is I have 2 babies with me. Called front desk and I was told it was a "covid" issue. Listen, it wasn't a covid issue - you misrepresented the rooms online. And guess what? Not a word from the manager. Thanks. Did see they updated the web. - I also had no laundry in room which I thought I was standard. Impacted my trip because I had to go to the clubhouse. Again, kids... - Canoe club closed without notice even though weather was fine. Listen, again, I had my kids with me, went to the beach to get lunch and only after we got there found out couldn't get food only water sports. For the amount of money I'm paying to stay, the expectation is that things are open - it's not like I get a discount for bad weather, why should you shut down food? Anyways, my kids were starving and my husband walked to get us some lunch. More of the good: Water sports were on point! Well staffed and had a great time at the Canoe Club. Whiteface Lodge was an option for my fiancé and I's wedding. We reached out to plan a tour of the venue in April when we are visiting, as we are from Long Island, and this will be a destination wedding. We asked about a tasting, as again this is a destination wedding, and we will not be up there frequently, nor do we know anybody who has had a wedding there or been to one. The woman I spoke to via email informed me that tastings are not done until the wedding is booked and would not allow us to have a tasting even after we offered to pay for it. This is very disappointing, as this was one of our main options and considering the price is $400 a person I find this unacceptable. read more

I don't know where to start in my description of our experience staying at the Whiteface Lodge since I was almost constantly in awe. From the imposing log-like construction of the buildings, to the spaciousness of our accommodations. All the staff were so friendly and accommodating, and the amenities more than I was expecting: kitchenette; dining area; living room with flat-screen TV and DVD player; gas fireplace; enclosed outdoor porch; 1 1/2 baths; spacious bedroom with king size bed and another TV; huge bathroom with heated floor, whirlpool tub, separate large walk-in shower and twin sinks; cotton terrycloth bathrobes; free Wi-Fi; spa; movie theater; exercise room; game room; computer stations; outdoor hot tubs; did I mention the heated bathroom floor???; breakfast buffet; and much more. My wife took advantage of the Spa services, which she was very pleased with, while I drove into town. While the main downtown area is about a mile away with not much in the line of shops until you get there, a strip mall is located across the street from the Lodge with a Price Chopper. While we didn't take advantage of the dining facilities other than the included breakfast buffet, the buffet was a bit different each of our two days and very good. We're looking forward to a return trip in the Fall. read more

A truly beautiful hotel in the Adirondacks. The service was fantastic. The staff are kind and very helpful and provide the guests with a wonderful stay. The outdoor heated pool and 3 hot tubs were always well maintained. The skating rink and cabins with skate boots and hockey sticks were great to have for the children. The hot chocolate after games were a plus, and the fireplace with s'mores were so much fun. The hotel has free movie night with popcorn for adults and children. The food was also incredible, with full buffet at breakfast, fluffy pancakes, potato latkes, eggs, bacon, sausages, the works, and dinner parties at Peak 47. This place is amazingly beautiful. The staff is so friendly, prompt, and knowledgeable, as well. The food was excellent, and service, intentional. They were very busy(off-season) and communicated well throughout my stay. The spa was very nice, and staff accommodated my needs. Amazing deep-tissue. I recommend 80 min with Tiffany. The cedar/cypress/mountain-scent filled my suite, which was large and very clean. The bed was very comfortable and I recommend checking the alarm clocks so you aren't awakened at 5:30am...THAT happened. The jacuzzi worked well and the view from my wall of windows, breathtaking. FYI...very family oriented and kids everywhere. People were really enjoying themselves and their kids had a blast. S'mores by the fire(one of the many huge fireplaces). I didn't ice skate or hike. One of the front desk staff literally took about 10 minutes to make sure I had printed directions for my drive home. You will lose signal up here-but there's WiFi, if you must stay online. I would highly reoccurs The Whiteface Lodge if you want to stay in Lake Placid! It's an upscale resort that has to look and feel of a log lodge. We stayed there in July so there were many outdoor activities including a swimming pool with hot tub, fishing pond, campfires for roasting s'mores and kayaking/paddle boarding/ canoeing at their Canoe Club. They have a great breakfast included with the room and three movies every day. There is also a nice fitness center, game room and even a bowling alley! The best part of our stay had to be the staff! They were all very kind and helpful and always eager to help out any way they could! I would definitely stay here again if I were back in this area! read more

This review is for the spa at Whiteface Lodge. While at the spa, I indulged in the "Mind, Body, Soul" half-day spa experience. I chose a 50 minute facial, a 50 minute deep tissue massage, and the experience ended with a Spa lunch. The masseuse and esthetician were both decently skilled and I found both the massage and facial to be very relaxing. My favorite aspect of both the massage and facial though were the products used. I'm a big fan of the Zents and the Naturopathica products. I first became aquainted with the Zents scents at the Spa at Mirbeau in Skaneateles, NY and have been pretty obsessed since. The aromatherapy elements of the experience were therefore just wonderful. I am particularly enamored with the "Ore" scent. The Naturopathica products are soooo good on my skin. It was nice to have an expert actually evaluate my skin and recommend specific products. I bought some to bring home and have been using them on my own since. I had a baby 8 months ago and my postpartum skin has been really struggling. I love the improvement I've seen after just a little over a week of using the Naturopathica products. I fully intend to buy more. The Spa lunch was a bit underwhelming, but still tasty. I had grilled shrimp, a wedge-style salad, and yogurt with granola. The "Spa Cafe" area of the spa is just a bunch of small tables and chairs set up in a windowless area outside of the Spa entrance. In contrast to the plush couches and rustic-chic setting of the Ladies Sanctuary area of the lounge, the setting and amenities of the cafe were pretty stark. Lake Placid is full of wonderful restaurants with healthy options. Whiteface Lodge Spa could definitely do a lot better in this area of the experience. Overall, I was very happy with my time and treatments at the Spa at Whiteface Lodge, and I'd definitely recommend it to other travelers to the area. I'd skip the lunch though and seek vittles elsewhere. read more

My husband and I just returned from a wonderful stay at Whiteface Lodge. We really enjoyed the lodge and restaurants. Food was very good. Thank you to Lance at the restaurant for making our anniversary so special! The wait staff in general was so kind and friendly. Wish I knew all of their names. We have stayed at various hotels in Lake Placid and this is the best for kids. Unfortunately the service doesn't match up to everything else at the resort. For example, we paid for early check-in so that we could be guaranteed to get in the room in time to take a virtual work meeting. Not only was the room not ready, but also we were told with annoyance from the staff that they had no idea when it would be ready - even though we paid for early check-in. Also, no one answers the phones. To get expensive room service we had to walk up to the restaurant to put the order in person. It is a shame that the place is beautiful but the service is so lacking. Also, we have tried complaining to management in the past and always get no response. read more

I wish I could write a review for the spa and lodge separately. The lodge was great, but the spa was not. The woman tried to upswell me to a more expensive facial after criticizing me on how dry my skin was. As if more than $200 wasn't enough to spend on a facial! She had pretty rude bedside service. And what made it the worse was that she wore gloves the whole time. I almost asked her to just stop after she started giving me a head massage with latex gloves on. Really? Terrible protocols for a spa. Not relaxing or enjoyable at all when your employees are giving off vibes that they're scared to even touch people in fear of spreading germs or getting sick. What an amazing stay my boyfriend and I had here! This is truly the place to be. The room had everything you could ever need for your stay, full kitchen, washer/dryer, slippers, bathrobes, lots of towels and toiletries. As soon as you get to your room someone comes to give you ice for drinks too. The resorts amenities are incredible, you could just stay here and have endless things to do. Bowling, swimming, restaurants, game room, private movie theater, ice cream parlor, fitness center, spa... the list goes on. Service was on point from the moment we checked in. Everyone is incredibly friendly and makes it a point to say hi as you're passing by. You even get a newspaper delivered to your room in the morning. I really wish we didn't have to leave. read more

Fantastic Christmas wonderland retreat at this Adirondack treasure. Having learned to ski at Whiteface Mountain nearly 2 decades ago, I thought Lake Placid would make for a nice weekend getaway for me and my gf when I saw a Travelzoo deal. It definitely made this trip possible as I'm not quite at a place in life where 2 or 3 nights at rack rate wouldn't give me wallet anxiety. Anyhow, we finally redeemed our reservation 2 weekends ago and couldn't be happier. Whiteface is a "turnkey" experience in the full sense of this marketing bromide. From the time we walked through the doors and stepped into an '80s Cusack movie (in the best possible way). Christmas was already in full swing, and it was only December 5. The lodge was decked out with wreaths, lights, and boughs of holly. You could not turn without bumping into a Christmas tree: A gorgeous holiday display. Even without the holiday theme, the Lodge impresses, with a modern log cabin design consistently applied across the suites and amenities. The restaurant and lounge take an alpine decor and a splash of unique American rustic sensibility: deer, moose, and bear heads look down at you imposingly from every corner of the restaurant. Our suite was just sublime, with a separate living room, spacious kitchen and dining table, fireplace, and comfy couches and chairs. The bedroom was nice and cozy, with a view of the ice skating/hockey rink (!!!) outside, and the porch. The bathroom was immaculate, with a jacuzzi tub that comfortably fits two people and heated flooring (sorry, sustainability). I won't list all the amenities already enumerated below. Suffice it to say that you won't get bored, and families probably do very well here (there's a bowling alley and a movie theater!). We didn't even try the spa or the heated pool. Honestly, we were happy just lounging in our room with some wine and port. The restaurant is rather pricey, but we had a decent dinner at the lounge, and a very good buffet breakfast was included in our package both days. WiFi is free and available throughout the hotel. Delicious chocolate chip cookies were delivered daily along with seamless turndown service. If you're willing to splurge on a getaway from reality, Whiteface Lodge is a great place to do it. read more

Lodge is nice - looks like the gardener quit though. Paid nearly 600 a night and told to rebook (for an extra fee) due to coronavirus. Not told the restaurants and other things would not be open. Still charged the full fair + rebooking fee (and then hundred dollar hold in case we - I don't know - steak something I guess)...and then basically snickered at when I asked if they would be discounting the rate since nothing is open. It's frankly low integrity to tell us to rebook, not tell us everything is closed and then charge us EVEN MORE THAN THE ORIGINAL BOOKING! Sad that this is how guests are treated. No place like it. Great Adirondack lodge with massive logs, giant fireplaces, cozy wood everywhere. Very homey. Indoor/outdoor pool amazing. Floated in the giant hot tub (there are 3) with my eyes on the moon and stars. It was magical. Suites are beautiful and well-appointed. Kids (ours ages 11 and 12) are able to walk the grounds, visit game room, ice skating, explore with no worries. We have been several times. Breakfast buffet is great and has a huge variety. Food in Peak47 is convenient, but I'd say average. It's all just a wonderful get away. We've been summer and winter. Summer is busier, and the private beach and water amenities of the dock house on the lake are wonderful, but we also love the cozy warmth of a winter visit! read more
