After a long cold day of touring London on foot, this place was a welcome refuge for my tired and overly chilled family. Ducking into this place for food and warmth, we welcomed the amazingly relaxed atmosphere this restaurant provided. With three levels, the first being the bar and the next two being the dinning floors, this establishment offers a rich relaxing ambience and plenty of seating to enjoy it. The staff is very kind and helpful throughout the meal. The food was good but a little overpriced in my opinion. We ordered the scotch eggs (perfect breading but the eggs were too undercooked for my taste), two burgers (scrumptious), and two chicken schnitzels (breaded chicken with no gravy or sauce but not bad just bland). Don't get me wrong, the food was good and we devoured it. However, I don't believe it was 140 quid good, especially when we get cups of ketchup and not the bottle (small pet peeve of mine). Lively and fun. Don't come if your looking for a quiet, romantic dinner! This place has lot of different ales , beers and wines. They also have lots of outside tables, and decks to enjoy the view. Inside has nice dark tables. Music is fullblast. Bartenders and waiters are the bomb. Everyone is sooo nice and accommodating! Food was really good, too. The hamburger was huge and came with fries. Very cool location! The building and surrounding area draws you in. However; the service and drink leaves a lot to be desired. Bar staff was not attentive and was uninterested in serving. One bartender didn't know what London Pride was!?! On top of that I feel we where shorted on our drinks as they where not served in the proper pint. I will not go out of my way to come here again. While staying at The Tower Hotel, we found it later in the evening and still hadn't had a meal for the day. We were told by the concierge to try The Dickens Inn, about a block away from the hotel. The restaurant downstairs kitchen was closed but we were told that we could still order foor upstairs on the third floor. The room had a nice comfy atmosphere with decorations that befitted the St Katherine Dock location they are in. There was a large party going on and we were told it may be a while before we could get served. But that was not the case. We ordered a couple glasses of wine and two orders of fish & chips. We received it all in no time at all and the wait staff was on top of things for us despite the crowd. This was some of the finest fish & chips we had in Great Britain during our stay. Lightly coated and flavorful, large piece of cod, crisp chips and a small portion of mashed peas. It was the perfect late night meal, didn't sit heavy where it was hard to sleep on. The fish & chips were not overly priced either. Staff was excellent on the third floor, and would highly anybody looking for such a meal; the other items offered also sound good. read more

Decent pub. Can't decide if it's high end or chavvy... Really nice location. Really big. Lots of drink selection. That said, it kind of has no soul for a pub with this awesome a building and this location... I would expect more. The beer is ok, but I have had complaints from friends so it's not consistent. Right by the riverside against a great view, in an old rustic 18th century converted warehouse, what else do you want? It had the perfect atmosphere, warm, cosy, sensible people and it may be a bit tattered but it adds to the historical feel of it and I wouldn't change it at all. In fact I loved the whole building in was in and the whole location with the view of the boats, all very romantic. For a Saturday it wasn't even too pack as it is in quite a secluded area which is perfect for a tourist location, not a big fan of loud busy places. Service was also very friendly provided by a lady who was more than accommodating, helping us book via Toptable on last minute terms to help me collect my 100 points. Also very smiley and genuine which ticked points for good service. As it was the three of us we ordered the buffalo wings, olives and a medium pizza, half Florentine and meat feast. It was surprisingly large for a medium pizza & could easily feed 4. The wings were perfectly tender, succulent and big, in a really moreish sauce that wasn't too sweet & finger lickin good. Olives were garlicky which we all loved although quite small in portion for its price. I must say the Florentine was slightly disappointing. Eggs were rubbery because they came boiled which is not how a Florentine should be done and they were quite bland overall. The meat feast however was delicious, packed with flavour,a good variety and quantity of toppings, good thick layer stringy cheese for the perfect pizza bite. if you're looking for a light pizza this place is not it. Food was slightly overpriced but that's predictable for the location it's in and the novelty of having such a large pizza called the 'beast' served on a lifted platter. I suppose I would recommend for a special occasion especially in the location it's in and if you've got a group of people. Just make sure Florentine is not one of the pizza option you're picking and it should be fine and enjoyable. Wash it down with two shots of Malibu and coke like I did and it will be even better ;) read more

I've been to The Dickens Inn a few times. It's in a very cute location, and looks gorgeous with the hanging baskets lining the outside of the three story rustic 18th century building. Last night I stopped off there for a drink in the outside section before going for dinner. The drinks are reasonably priced and it's a nice location, close to Tower Bridge. I've previously indulged in the huge pizzas they served there. Worth a try in your in the area and hungry. I've also been there for a couple work functions - they have a large room available for hire which is slightly to the side of the main bar and seating area. A very nice place to go, but I personally wouldn't make a specific trip there if you're not already heading to that part of London. read more

This was the only restaurant in London that we visited twice during our seven day stay. The pizza was really good and the crust was exceptional making it the best pizza (and one of the best meals) we had during our trip. We ate on the balcony overlooking St. Katherine' s Dock which really added to the experience. The beast worked out well for the four of us - two adults and two kids (under 11) - and they were able to split the toppings the way we wanted - half Parma and half Margherita. The tavern on the first floor had a great selection and although each floor had its own restaurant, they said you could bring the pizza down if you wanted to eat it there. read more

I've been coming here for years. Whenever I'm in the area, this is my choice of pub. It has a great view over St Katherines Dock. It's mock Victorian decor, adds the environment. They have a wide selection of beers, and standard pub fayre, any tourist to London would expect. The only downside I have, is that the last few times I have been, I seem to arrive just after a coach load of tourists get there, all ordering coffees of various types. This leads to a long wait for a pint! read more

A tricky one to rate this! I love the quaint, olde worlde look of the place, esp the traditional wooden beams and gorgeous hanging baskets bursting with bright flowers on each level. I stopped by for drinks and dinner with a friend visiting from NYC (she chose it). It took me a while to find the pizzeria she was talking about but after wandering through a pretty unappealing pub area downstairs I found the gang on the top floor. The service was painfully slow when you wanted to order, but they were also nicely flexible (oblivious?!) about the group size ranging from 4 initially to 9 through the evening as people rocked up gradually after work (the lawyers last!). I enjoyed the goat's cheese pizza with red onion, and you could tell the base was freshly made which was a big plus considering it was a little heavy on the dough in the dough-to-topping ratio. The sides and other bits I munched (/stole) from others were also nice enough, but I thought quite pricey for what they were. It's in a great spot by the docks and I can see myself drifting back here if I was avoiding the chains nearby, but I can't say I'm in any rush as it's just a-ok for this price point. read more

I stopped here while on holiday in the UK. The 1st floor bar setting is nice. Plenty of space and not cramped. Windows overlook the marina. I sat by the windows to get fresh air, but someone was smoking outside the window. I ordered the bacon cheeseburger for £15. It was nothing extraordinary. In fact it was bland and small. I honestly expected more for £15. I also ordered sweet potato fries. They were seriously deep fried. Is that how it is done here? The regular French fries were delicious. It has a couple of restaurants one serving Pizzas etc., and the other a more extensive menu. The was the first time I tried Ostrich and was pleasantly surprised. Nestled amongst the super yachts The Dickens Inn looks dubious from the outside but is actually a great place for drinks and/or a meal. There's some quite pricey places in St Katherine's docks but a pizza from their upstairs pizza restaurant is reasonably priced with a cheap and cheerful wine list to match. I love this place and wish that there were more around. The pub has a wonderfully fresh appearance from outside, matches with a wooden (medieval styled) interior. It homes a number of different cuisines, with plenty of choice on drinks. It's in a great location and has lovely views, especially when sunny. When you are craving a proper pub lunch around Tower Bridge, the choices are limited. We thought we had struck gold when we saw the Dickens Inn, but it was just average. Firstly, no Sundays roasts downstairs, only up in the Grill upstairs. As we were sat in the ample garden area outside, we settled on various items from the limited menu. Food was ok, although the hunters chicken had no bbq sauce, and there wasn't very much hot food available for people who can't eat gluten. Oh, and one more thing. Dickens Inn building is a converted 18th century converted victorian warehouse next to the riverside with a great view of the docks. The hanging baskets and tattered feel all work very well to build an interesting atmosphere. Unfortunately the pub inside is completely let down and it destroys the whole atmosphere so it does only worth sitting outside. Food wise i have only tried the pizza which was quite nice but the "beast" is not sufficient to share between 4 people and the price was just ridiculous £50 + 12.5% service charge. It probably works out better if you get 4 small pizzas instead of the beast both price wise and slices per person ratio. I wouldn't recommend the desserts/puddings as they are surprisingly small & blunt. I wouldn't make a specific trip just to visit this place but if you are around tower bridge and you can secure a seat at the balcony it is a much better option than the rest of the pubs in the area. read more
