The prices can't be beat. They offer several daily meals with all the fixings. This was my first visit. I had the grilled pork chop, with turnip greens, or maybe it was collard greens, corn bread, green beans and creamed potatoes. All of this for around $12.00, and tea!! The food was delicious, especially the pork chop.l, as it was well seasoned with somewhat of a Cajun flair. The vegetables were what you would expect, good and simple. The cornbread was done right. Food was not good. Everything was extremely bland. I don't think they have salt anywhere in the kitchen. I had the country fried steak (which was barely tolerable), and it came out 10 minutes before my girlfriend's steak. The creamed potatoes and fries were so bland I couldn't eat it (and I eat a lot). The environment was hectic and loud, but not awful. Best part of the dinner was the salad bar, and the waitress was kind. **update 10/2016 I have dined here a few times over the past year and it has improved in many areas, but I still stand with the bland vegetables that tastes straight from a can. The burgers are better and the bun changed to a better version. The fried fish is pretty good and not too salty. Good hush puppies. The temperature of the food is still hit or miss. I upped the star count to reflect the improvements** It baffles me to no end as to why The Dinner Bell has such a cult following. I have combined all of my dining experiences and could not come up with one full star. The lettuce needs to be rinsed before using as it has a seriously strong chemical taste. The lettuce ruined an entire cornbread salad. Grilled fish too salty to eat. Fried catfish unremarkable. Meat loaf with large pieces of vessels in the meat. Yak! Flavorless hamburger on kaiser bun. (All of these are from various trips here where my family wanted to try it out and I went along). I know if you have eaten out more than a few times you have undoubtedly ran into a dumb waiter or waitress. I mean dumb as in zero common sense. A waitress brought a refill of sweet tea and these were her words, "we had a lot of people say this batch of tea has spoiled. If you don't like it I can bring you some different." Why did common sense not tell her to taste the tea for herself? Why doubt customers and not pour that batch out immediately? Why bring questionable items to a table? With the amount of turn over this place has, how did tea have time to spoil? Oh, and yes, the tea was indeed spoiled...along with the rest of our appetites. I grew up in the South and raised on Southern food. I continue to cook the same foods by the same methods. The food at The Dinner Bell is not true Southern Food. They serve the bastardized version of Southern food. They are selling people on the 'idea' of home-cooked food. Opening tin cans of pinto beans, green beans and corn and keeping them warm under heat lamps is a far far cry from Southern cooking. Purchasing precut, precoated and precooked squash, green tomatoes and okra from the Sysco truck for convenience is the norm for all the local restaurants offering 'home cooking'. This convenience does not pay off in flavor and texture. There is absolutely NOTHING more enjoyable and satisfying than eating fresh corn cut off and fried in salt, pepper and butter in an iron skillet, served with cornbread. Pinto beans cooked long and slow with onion and pork, either in the form of fatback, hog jowl, bacon or ham. Real butter melted on piping hot cornbread with a crunchy golden brown crust, made without sugar. Fresh fried green tomatoes so tart you can't help but pucker on that first bite. Slimy boiled okra. So, I am out in Corinth, MS now. Yours truly, the Yelp Goddess of the mystical traveling ways, is becoming one with "The Sticks" of MS and is in search of a tasty Southern meal. The Dinner Bell is hailed as a local favourite for this task. I took the challenge. Prepare to receive judgment!! Now, before you ask, yes, I do know good Southern food. On the list of my credentials for sampling of Southern cuisine is places like Poogan's Porch and the Glass Onion in Charleston, SC. So I know what to expect! Plus, my Dad was a Florida cracker and educated my tastebuds. The restaurant has simple decor, wooden tables, aluminum panel ceiling, and a nice size dining area. Table was a little sticky, but I don't think it is from not cleaning as much as OVER cleaning with harsh chemicals and ruining the wood. Menu is simple with a fair number of typical Southern choices. This is NOT a vegan's delight nor a heart-healthy place. Buyer beware! After glancing over the menu, I made my selections. The chili and cornbread came first. The chili was dark - this is, as any good cook knows, a sign that the chili was darn near scorched. They caught it just before, obviously. While the overdone taste was ever so slightly there, it was a good solid chili with mild heat. Very meaty with tomatoes and beans in good proportion, I would have liked it even more if not overdone. In contrast, the cornbread was just too dry! It isn't sweet cornbread and could have been better by anyone's standard. So instead, I got a side of hush puppies added on. Now, we hit the mark here. Little bite sized munchkins of hush puppies perfectly deep fried, they were the gems of my meal! Skip the cornbread altogether and get the puppies, you will be happier! I got the 10 oz ribeye with baked potato and Texas-style toast next. The steak was a generous portion and perfectly cooked! No steak sauce needed!!! The baked potato was also a generous size and came with real butter and sour cream. No complaints there. I was not impressed with the Texas-style toast. It was toasted correctly. They overdid it on the butter, though. You could skip this and not miss a thing. So, I was gonna call it quits there. However, my very pleasant waitress said they had chocolate cobbler. I thought why not? While is it a generous small portion for only $1.50, it was nothing short of a disappointment for me. It was basically Duncan Hines-like cake mix with canned chocolate syrup on top. Not my idea of homemade as it was billed. Better idea to skip dessert entirely, walk a mile, then go for ice cream later. So the verdict? No, this isn't real down home Southern cooking, but I would say it could be termed trucker-style Southern food. Big portions, cheap pricing, but far from being the true real deal. I think if Yelp would let half stars, it is more a 2 1/2 star place, but the folks are nice and it isn't a terrible place to dine. Just not as stellar as some would have you think. I was quite pleased with our first dining experience at Dinner Bell. We arrived at 6pm on a Saturday evening to a bustling crowd. With a party of ten, we were seated immediately. I ordered the 5oz ribeye with two catfish filets for $16.95. It came with a baked potato, four hush puppies and a salad bar trip. I loved that they had pistachio salad at the salad bar too, a sweet treat. The salad bowl was a tiny wooden bowl, assume it was a typical one trip, but it was good. I like that they shred the lettuce finely for salad. Our meals came out quickly, my steak was thin but tasty. A bit more grissel, but that's expected with a ribeye. The catfish was deish! It was fresh and flavorful. I really enjoyed the hush puppies. They were just the right size, not too big because then it's just too "corn bread dry" tasting. These were smaller and moist and flavorful. The baked potato was also fresh and not old and hard like they can be at times regardless of where you may dine. I would highly recommend this restaurant. It really bothers me that this place is hailed as a bastion of "Real home cooking". The food was on par with the kind of thing you might find in a hospital- it all tasted canned or frozen. The only fresh food in the entire place was on the salad bar, which would be the highlight of the restaurant, but they give you these weird tiny little wooden bowls to eat from. The whole place looks like the kind of thing you'd find set up in a high school gym or someone's basement. Fold out plastic tables, cheap chairs, office grade industrial carpet. There's kind of a weird musty smell. The only upside- the portions are big. This place is good if you're really hungry and don't mind eating sub par food, but PLEASE do not consider this to be "Real southern cooking". read more

Only been here only three times over the past two years, have to say that their food is good, not great. I did have a steak there and I enjoyed it very well - but had better at other places. Shrimp PoBoy is just ok. They have a fair size menu to choose from. What is a sore spot that stays with me is the menus and tables are sometimes sticky from not being cleaned as they should, same thing with the floor when walking. Bathroom is very small, dishes are plastic, etc. If located in a big city, this place would not survive the competition. From the locals's opinion, this is a great place to eat. So your experience might fair better, I hope it does. read more

Probably the best catfish I've had. It's served either fried or grilled, and you can choose from Cajun, Greek, or lemon pepper for the grilled. The Cajun is ok, but the Greek was outstanding. The Dinner Bell is the absolute best place to eat a nice meal in Corinth. They get their steaks fresh from the local meat market and they are amazing. The best salad bar hands down in Corinth. Better than Russell's as far as quality goes hands down. This is our go-to place when we are wanting a nice, sit down meal either alone or with friends and family.
