Off the bat we were greeted by a rude hostess. I asked her for a high chair only for her to roll her eyes and give me sass before showing us our table. I'm honestly thankful we didn't get her as our server. Anyways, our sever was quite nice for the most part. Kept conversations to a minimum which was nice since we were more focused on our families. They give kids activities to do on the table. I think it was a colouring book and crayons. They have a quite large variety of drinks on tap. Most of local but for Canadians such as myself, it was nice to see some drink we were familiar with. We ordered a wide variety of foods including burgers, fish and chips, steak and of mushy peas. Honestly, if peas are your thing, go for it but don't expect much. They have a serve yourself salad bar that comes with basic fruits and veggies and a variety of different salad. For the most part, it's nice for a large group especially families with kids.

The area is set up like a buffet. The meat quality was excellent. I was disappointed because I did ask the server for a cocktail alcoholic beverage and he brought me a sparkle drink that taste like sprite other than than the food was tasty.

My partner and I visited on New Years Eve. I'm not sure if this is always the case, but the music playing was primarily American rock - like The Eagles, Neil Young, etc. It's fine, but not very in line with the classic, upscale feel. The bartending staff was top notch. I had a martini and my partner had a house Manhattan, both were perfect. We shared the iceberg wedge to start, a personal favorite, and this one was spot on. Great bleu cheese dressing, still warm lardons, and crispy, fresh iceberg lettuce. For mains, I ordered the aged Irish ribeye and chose to have it "gorgonzola encrusted". This was the first misstep. First of all, the grass fed beef stands on its own, I would never choose to add a sauce, but this was encrusted, right? Not so much. Here's the definition of encrusted from the Oxford dictionary: "Covered or decorated with a HARD surface layer". What I received was a steak smothered in (a very lovely) gorgonzola SAUCE with some bacon and spring onions. Had I known it was a sauce, I would have skipped it, or at the very least had it served on the side. Slightly disappointing, but the steak was perfectly medium rare and delicious. My partner ordered the hake. It was served with a prawn and a very tasty tarragon pesto. She said the pesto was the star. The fish was delicate and also well prepared. We shared sauteed spinach and roasted mushrooms, both delicious. For dessert we shared the banana and toffee mousse. This was the second misstep. This was a tasty dessert, but it was definitely not mousse. It was a very small sliver of banana bread (?). It had strong banana flavor and was served with rum raisin ice cream which was nice. It was also thankfully a very small portion as we were stuffed. Overall, a very decadent and elegant meal to ring in the new year!

Service was quick and personal, the atmosphere was great and we had some amazing food again. My filet was spectacular and thats comparing to many top steakhouses in the US and Australia. My only negative comment is the cost. Compared to similar steakhouses overseas its more expensive. Despite that I'll be back next time I'm in London.

I had the pulled pork sandwich and it was sweet and tangy and very messy which paired well with a sweet tea. The meatloaf and mac & cheese was good too and a big helpin' perfect with a tart dirty lemonade. And the black cherry cheesecake square was delectable. I can see why they are so popular. Satisfyingly I can add that I ended my food trip with the Buttermilk Blues for breakfast and fresh-squeezed juice. Almost home.

Unfortunately, it's a bit of a trek for me, so it hadn't happened. However, I got a Facebook notice about a special wine and food night they were having: A New York State of Wine. It was showcasing traditional American dishes and New York wines. One thing I learned is that New York makes wine! And some of it is actually pretty darn good! So the food at Blue Plate is American-style food. The evening was a special tasting menu. Most of the courses were quite tasty and well done, and a few needed some work, but I imagine a lot of it is due to the fact that they aren't typically a tasting menu sort of place. The duck meatloaf, red snapper hash, sausages and black bean soup were pretty amazing. If that night was a good showing of what they typically do, I'll be back. I was told by one of the David's (both the owners are named David) that brunch is what they do best. Since it's my favorite meal of the day, I hope one day to trek out to Chiswick to give their brunch a chance!
