The Dip is a step up from your average neighborhood ice cream spot because they have a DRIVE THRU. Super convenient and amazing for hot days when you don't want to leave the AC for your sweet treat. I went recently with my husband and we shared a soft serve slush float. It was a blue slush with vanilla ice cream. Too sweet for me, but my husband liked it (though he said he wished the slush would've been a bit more tart for some balance.) There are plenty of picnic tables and a large pavillion to stand under. The best ice cream in Fairfield is at The Dip. It has many different flavors. They have Dole Whip. Isn't that all you need to know? They also take cards, it's not cash only. It has lots of flavors. Each month they change them. They make all kinds of creative specialties too. A Hurricane is their version of a Blizzard. This is ice cream mixed with candy. I had the lemon Dole Whip. This is $3 for the medium size. It was actually pretty big. They didn't skimp on this. It's something they're known to do. They are often inconsistent in sizes. It was nice to get what I paid for. Stumbled upon this place on Memorial Day and it was the perfect stop for a mid day treat. The workers were friendly and patient as we looked over the menu to figure out what we wanted. There are so many different flavor combinations and treats to choose from. After considering the shakes, smoothies, sundaes, cones and burgers, chips and hot dogs, we settled on a swirl cone with crunch coating, 2 chili cheese dogs and an apple dumpling sundae. All that for $12 was a pretty good deal! The apple dumpling sundae was warm and crunchy and at the same time cool and comforting. Highly recommend and suggest you ask for extra cinnamon if that flavor is what you are looking for in this item. The chili on the chili cheese dogs is a traditional flavor and not the sweeter and more liquid-y Cincinnati chili style just in case you expected that. I can't wait to come back here although it is quite far from where I live, if I was in the area I would return just to order the chai smoothie because that's an item I've never seen on any other ice cream stands menu and it sounded so delicious! read more

We all loved the The Dip. The flavors were vivid. There was so much of the flavoring in the flavorbursts, that it seemed to drip out from the sides. The Dole pineapple whip was as refreshing as a frosty cold glass of pineapple juice. Along with the posted menu flavors there were two special flavors. There is more that just frozen yogurt/ creamy whips here. There are shakes, frozen cheese cake and floats. I did not notice if they had hot foods. The service was polite, and friendly. Items were up quickly. There is both a walk up window, and a drive up widow. The parking lot is larger than many creamy whips I have been to. Picnic tables, chairs and a grass area are all available to eat at. The only thing keeping me from giving them 5 stars is the drastically inconsistent sizing. My small was smaller than two of my children's kid's cones. Another kid's cone was half the size of the other two kid's cones. Since that was the choice of the eldest child, it was very dissapointing for him. While we will probably visit again, if in the area, the inconsistencies in size were really noticable. read more

Try the caramel apple dumpling! Delish. We love the shakes, soft serve, even the food is good. It's easy to go there, order and eat. They have both walk up and drive through. I'd recommend going on a weekday, on the weekends, there are lines wrapped around for both walk up and drive through. read more

Drive thru was fairly quick. The ice cream was really thick and filling for soft serve. However, for me the flavor was a little lacking. Also, my wife got a hurricane with Reese's and something else in it. And it only had a small sprinkling of the toppings on top. None mixed into it. Very disappointing. I'd love to give them a second chance some time, but there are better options so we probably won't. read more

I love the dip, they have great ice cream and their team is always fast and thorough! Also, the drive through is fun and unique. They did fall short on my burger, I added lettuce and it was evident that they microwaved they lettuce with the burger. It made it very gross and soggy. I've only been to the Dip once and I definitely want to head over there again. They have an interesting selection and the prices are reasonable. I ordered a flavored vanilla cone that was a larger size than I expected. If you order a flavored cone, you get to pick from several types. I chose cotton candy, because let's face it... the only thing better than cotton candy itself is COTTON CANDY FLAVORED ICE CREAM!!! NOM!!!! They give you a vanilla cone and each edge is covered with the flavoring of your choice. It was good, but I do wish the taste had been more potent. Now my mom got a twist cone, with the vanilla and chocolate swirl and I tell you what, that chocolate was some of the most delicious and smooth chocolatey bliss I've ever tasted. YUM! They have the normal cones, sundaes, cyclones etc. The prices are great, and my favorite part is that they have a huge cement patio shaped like a circle, with some slowly gyrating ceiling fans just overhead to keep you and your tasty treat nice and cool. If you prefer the sunshine, they have a few picnic tables so can enjoy the heat. Either way, this place is a great little ice cream joint. I'll definitely return for more deliciousness. read more

This, as I mentioned in my other review for Cassano's Pizza is one of the other reasons why I love living in Fairfield. The Dip is a really cute ice cream stand at the corner of Gelhot and Pleasant. Chances are, if you've driven down Pleasant Ave towards Hamilton, you've seen it. Next time, stop. But make sure if you do, that you have cash. That's right, the reason for withholding that 5th and final star lies right there- the fact that they are cash only. There have been so many times that I've wanted to stop for a cone or a hurricane (their version of a blizzard or flurry- ice cream with chunks of candy mixed in! YUM) and have had to keep rolling because I had no cash. The prices are very reasonable, and the portions are HUGE. A small is way more than enough for me, and a medium feels like a meal. I've never been brave enough to order a large. They have awesome flavors, which rotate monthly, some of my favorites are Blueberry and Cake Mix. If you are in Fairfield stop by for a Dip. The dip has a overwhelming number of items and ice cream variations to choose from. Today because it is fall I got the pumpkin flavor ice cream dipped in chocolate. I love pumpkin flavor and it was good. They usually have a flavor or two of frozen yogurt for the lactose intolerant. Nice big patio to sit under in the shade. They also have a drive thru if you prefer some ice cream on the go. The staff is usually friendly. I hope to try something different each time. read more

Stopped by here instead of my regular shop. I wish I didn't. The Strawberry Shortcake I got was disgusting. First, there were no strawberries. I'm not sure if the machines need cleaned from the long winter, but the ice cream was kinda..off. Not exactly sour, but not fresh. And the "Shortcake", they should've provided a knife. It was tough, like a over cooked steak, and crispy. When I turned it sideways, it looked like a wafer. Hollowed out flat, hard disc. The strawberry syrup, no. Just no.I can't even say the syrup ruined it, the shortcake; oh how I love shortcake. I'm not even sure the birds outside would've ate it. I pitched it. What a waste of money. I will stick to The Goody Shop. My son did like his soft serve, though he said the workers were like robots. Not very personable. Oh well, lesson learned. read more
