    The ice man

On our quest to try all the creamy whips in Cincinnati, we ventured to Putz's today. It doesn't look like much from the road, but it's a treasure! They've been operating since 1938 and five generations of the same family have been running it. The crowd was diverse and everyone was friendly while enjoying their treats at the picnic tables. My oldest had an ice man which is a sno cone with ice cream (with a face!) on top. My youngest got a small sundae with gummy worms and a color-changing spoon. I had a cookies n cream cyclone and my husband had a brownie sundae. We also shared three pretzels with cheese because my kids loved them so much. Everyone was happy!

I had the swirl soft serve and gobbled it down. Coming from Columbus which has lots of ice cream places, I have struggled to find ice cream I enjoy in Cincinnati. It's Graeter's and UDF land down here. I found Putz's on Yelp and decided to try it. It was super flavorful and cheap! Sadly their season comes to an end soon but I will be back as it has been added to my top ice cream list in cincy.

Want some good soft serve or a good milkshake? Stop by Putz's! Just a short 3 min drive from the heart of Westwood, Putz's is right around the corner. Clearly this place is a neighborhood staple. When we arrived there was a line. When I saw the line I knew I was in for a great treat. The line also moves pretty quickly. I'm not a huge fan of soft serve but this was pretty good and their strawberry milkshake was the bomb! It tasted like an old-fashioned milkshake. This place has been here for years and is the place that adults grandparents brought them, and now they are bringing their kids. They even have a picnic table area on the side of the parking lot. It's certainly a place where families come and enjoy a treat on a hot summer day. Since it was my first time visiting, I wanted to try what they were known for. I got vanilla soft serve in a waffle cone topped with a little bit of sprinkles. It was perfect! The funny thing is, as an adult I'm developing a love for sprinkles. I wasn't crazy about them as a kid. I mean I could deal with them but I wasn't the kid jumping up and down over sprinkles. My husband is a milkshake guy so that's what he always gets. I can admit this milkshake was the bomb.com! Thick and filled with strawberries. It reminded us of this same type of place that was in VA when we lived in Fredericksburg. It brought back memories. Certainly, stop by Putz's and give them a try. You'll enjoy their soft serve. If you don't like soft serve get a milkshake. They have something for everyone. They also have a ton of other stuff to choose from.

Just the best soft serve ice cream in the tristate. And a great variety of things to put it in. Yes they have good hamburgers, hot dogs, etc, but why waste room in your stomach when you can have a second ice cream treat? Only a short time left until they are closed again, so get here and enjoy.

We love to support local businesses and Putz's makes it easy. Delicious food, great friendly service and yummy deserts are what you find here. We do not live local but this is an easy off and on I-74. We only stopped in for ice cream but had to try the coneys. They did not disappoint! If you are searching for a casual spot to picnic, they have that too. We would definitely recommend this locally owned and operated spot.

Vanilla soft serve with birthday cake dip

Although I'm not from the area, something about Putz's brings me back to my childhood and I would imagine it has nostalgic appeal for a lot of locals. Putz's is a no-frills spot, cash-only and has a great local vibe. From what I understood, they use a machine back from the 1930s for their soft serve so the spot definitely has a lot of history. For those interested in the historical aspect, there is a lot of historical information around the small building. I got a vanilla soft serve cone with birthday cake dip. Sugar galore but delicious of course. Their dip options are more unique than the traditional chocolate option found in most places. The parking area is pretty small but seems that most people leave pretty quickly so I don't see it being too much of an issue.

Putz's Oreo and Heath Cyclone is the secret to mix-in Nirvana, the perfect balance of sweet and salty.

It doesn't get more classic in Cincinnati. Make sure to get your ice cream from the old machine!

First, it's…read morelocated in a really lovely part of Pendleton near a part of Broadway that's permanently closed for pedestrians and outdoor dining, so the ambiance is really nice. The inside of the shop is interesting, with knickknacks and things to look at in every corner- kids would love it for this reason! I immediately noticed that there were no prices on the menu... there were cups displayed on the counter with small/medium/large pricing but it wasn't clear what these cups were for- it looked like shakes. It was very off-putting for me to not know the prices of what I'm ordering, especially with more specialty items like cookie dough or coffee/ice cream creations where I can't predict a standard price. Second, there was only one dairy-free option... a cookies and cream ice cream. While it was tasty, it was my only option and that never feels great to order something because you have to. It also didn't have a description or any info available so I was left wondering what made it nondairy... almond? Coconut? Oil? Of course at a creamy whip type place I'm not going to expect the entire menu to accommodate me, but it's nice when there are at least a couple other options- especially with coffee, it would be easy to have a nondairy milk available or a sorbet/dole whip since they already carry many flavors. I tried a tiny bite of my husband's edible cookie dough and it was delicious! Seemed really sweet though- he could barely finish his side by side because it was so sugary--a good problem to have :)) I think I would go back if I had friends with me or happened to be in the area for Blink or the pool or something, but otherwise I would probably choose somewhere else where I have more options s and I know what I'm going to spend.
