Stopped by here on my way into Cincinnati. I'm always down for some ice cream, and try to seek out local type spots. I'm glad I stopped! I went with a swirl cone, dipped in chocolate. $5.00 even. Lady at the register was super nice, and actually came into play later during my visit........... I got my cone and walked over to the tables they have. I saw a family wearing their Reds gear, and I had on my Cardinals hat. We started chatting about baseball and other stuff. While talking, this cone was dripping like crazy. My hand was covered in ice cream and I was trying to woof it down asap lol. I finished my cone and out comes the young lady who helped me at the counter. The people I was chatting with were her parents picking her up from work! I asked her if I could use the hose they had outside to rinse off my hands, and she let me know that she could get me some wet wipes. She went inside and got me some wet wipes which took care of my ice cream problem. GREAT customer service! The ice cream was delicious, and the history of this place goes back almost 100 years. I got a Coke float and it really hit the spot. They have some picnic benches to sit on after as well. Sort of a spot off the hidden road but not one to sleep on. It had lots of choices and the prices were pretty cheap. A great spot for a sweet treat! read more

My wife had spoken highly of this business since myself and my kids had never had it before. Today, me and the family decided to go and try it out. Upon arrival, we found that the business only took cash. I rarely carry cash and due to this we had to leave. I feel this day and age, most people use cards and most businesses take some form of card payment. But I guess not this place. Needless to say, I as well as the family were disappointed by this and went elsewhere. What a good way to lose business, thanks Putz's. On our quest to try all the creamy whips in Cincinnati, we ventured to Putz's today. It doesn't look like much from the road, but it's a treasure! They've been operating since 1938 and five generations of the same family have been running it. The crowd was diverse and everyone was friendly while enjoying their treats at the picnic tables. My oldest had an ice man which is a sno cone with ice cream (with a face!) on top. My youngest got a small sundae with gummy worms and a color-changing spoon. Ahh. Summer is here and creamy whips are in full gear. I have never been able to figure out the difference between a chocolate float and a chocolate soda The chocolate soda seems to be something uniquely Cincinnatian like chili and goetta and must be experienced by all. I remember thinking as a child that the soda seems to freeze like pop rocks as it is coming up the straw. Don't let the summer pass you by without experiencing this here, or Zips or Goldtop or one of the other slowly dwindling Number of these TriState dairy bars. I have been coming to this out of the way and somewhat hard to find... all while in plain sight... creamy whips during the summer for years. It was the culmination of the weeklong day camp in the park at Mt Airy Forest to take the hike through the woods on the final Friday of camp. And imagine my surprise many years ago, when in a different city at a cocktail party and the person I was speaking to says "oh you are from Cincinnati, you must know about...". And of course I was ready for "Cincinnati chili" or "goetta" or "Little Kings" or "The Big Red Machine" but instead they said "Putz's". How could they know about this place at an out of the way exit, hidden from the road, no highway signage in a small carve out otherwise reserved for the largest municipal forest in the US? Turns out they drove cross country with a book of roadside attractions from the age of the dust bowl, eg world's largest ball of twine and Putz's made the list. For a number if reasons I believe Putz's holds a special place in the hearts of Cincinnatians like me. read more

Would I recommend Putz's-- ABSOLUTELY! First timer at Putz's, and happy I stopped by for some ice cream. I was in the area and asked some friends where they recommend to go for some ice cream, specifically soft serve. There are a couple other Cincy favorites, but they are all hard ice cream, and they unanimously agreed that I had to stop by Putz's Creamy Whip. I ate the waffle cone with chocolate and vanilla swirl, in record time, and forgot to take a pic. It was delicious.... In fact, the chocolate ice cream was actually noticeably "chocolaty." It was fantastic. It seems to be a family run business that has been there for years. The ladies that took my order and gave me my cone were all friendly and thanked me for stopping by. Want some good soft serve or a good milkshake? Stop by Putz's! Just a short 3 min drive from the heart of Westwood, Putz's is right around the corner. Clearly this place is a neighborhood staple. When we arrived there was a line. When I saw the line I knew I was in for a great treat. The line also moves pretty quickly. I'm not a huge fan of soft serve but this was pretty good and their strawberry milkshake was the bomb! It tasted like an old-fashioned milkshake. This place has been here for years and is the place that adults grandparents brought them, and now they are bringing their kids. They even have a picnic table area on the side of the parking lot. It's certainly a place where families come and enjoy a treat on a hot summer day. Since it was my first time visiting, I wanted to try what they were known for. I got vanilla soft serve in a waffle cone topped with a little bit of sprinkles. It was perfect! The funny thing is, as an adult I'm developing a love for sprinkles. I wasn't crazy about them as a kid. I mean I could deal with them but I wasn't the kid jumping up and down over sprinkles. My husband is a milkshake guy so that's what he always gets. I can admit this milkshake was the bomb.com! Thick and filled with strawberries. It reminded us of this same type of place that was in VA when we lived in Fredericksburg. It brought back memories. Although I'm not from the area, something about Putz's brings me back to my childhood and I would imagine it has nostalgic appeal for a lot of locals. However, we were surprised and disappointed in the total lack of good customer service today, a trait many small, family-run businesses seemingly share these days. I'm so glad I do not live by this location because I'd definitely have to watch out for weight gain. Geesh! They have ice cream, hot dogs, burgers and fries. We got ice cream only. It was so smooth and delicious. I had a swirl ice cream on sugar cone on my first visit and a Heath cyclone on my second visit. My friend had a sundae on both visits. We both greatly enjoyed the ice cream. My friend says it's the best in the area and that's why we visited. The service was quick. You place your order at one window and they call it out from a second window when it's ready. This is CASH ONLY business so keep that in mind. That was my only dislike, especially with everything going on surrounding Covid 19. Hopefully they will update to a cashless system. Otherwise no complaints. Nothing confirms that summer is here like a trip to Putz's Creamy Whip! A true West Side staple, Putz's has something for everybody. I personally like their chili cheese Mets and I always pair it with a peanut butter banana shake (I get this made with chocolate ice cream when I'm feeling frisky). Prices are great and I love their specials and punch cards for even more savings. I hardly ever have cash on me, but I keep an emergency Putz's fund on me just in case the mood strikes (they are cash only). I go into a mild depression at the end of every season when they close... Today was my second visit to Putz. My first visit was during Opening weekend in April. My brother and I stubbled upon this Nostalgic gem as we were searching for our Airbnb. It was very crowded and parking was a bit of a pain but we found a street spot. I'm glad we decided to stop and didn't allow the congested parking to deter us, upon first taste I knew this would be a must visit ice cream parlor wherever I visited the Cincinnati area. Although the parking lot was full the order were placed and executed quickly as the have 2 windows with 2 girls working each. My brother and I enjoyed the picnic as we ate our ice cream. Fast forward 3 months later and I'm able to bring my 3 sons here to enjoy ice cream before visiting with family. It wasn't opening day so the parking lot had plenty of parking and the vibe was great. 2 of my 3 sons as well as myself enjoyed a mini banana split, while the other enjoyed a sponge bob popsicle. This cost us under $29 but the experience was priceless read more
