My husband and I lived here for 3.5 years. We really enjoyed it and we're there during the change of ownership and subsequent renovation. In our time there, every maintenance issue was addressed promptly and every concern was handled (One time they were renovating while we were really ill and I asked if they could stop hammering. They did!). I see so many negative reviews. They are pricey, but that is because it is a nice neighborhood. Art is not the best at customer service, but he takes care of things which is desireable in a property manager. My husband and I have since moved into a house, but we really liked living here with our dog. We were there during the meth lab bust (it was in the adjacent apartment and the individual who did it was living there without the permission of the property manager) and it was handled professionally. We were minimally invoncenienced. Suggestions for improvement are customer service and get a dog park for the pups! read more

Honestly, one of the worst living experiences I've ever encountered. Do not move here if you have major health issues, especially someone who can not handle cigarettes. I've been going back and forth with management for months because our neighbors are chain smokers and our apartment is always smelling like cigarettes. Sad part is, they can't do anything because it's NOT IN THE LEASE. Yes, our fault for not catching it, but I would have never thought a place so nice like this would let something like this slide so it never crossed my mind. At one point, management said this was really a "he said, she said" situation and wasn't believing us. So my boyfriend went out of his way and bought an air purifier specifically made for smoke. I never thought I'd call out a place for this, but it's dramatically affected my lungs and wouldn't want anyone to go through this. It shouldn't be hard to take a breath in your own home.. read more

I was here for almost a year in 2017. When my family and I moved in, we had new carpet and fresh paint. The appliances were upgraded to stainless steel which was nice, however, the stoves hood and fridge started to rust quickly. Maintenance handled the repairs quickly and made sure it was done prior to going home. We did have a leak from the bathroom sink that dropped down to the vanity and created damage. The apartment was okay. The only downside is there's no room for a dining table to sit. Would've been nice if they took out the wall from the kitchen to living room and added a header, so you can actually have a table to sit down and eat a meal. Our meals were on the couch which was unpleasant. I never saw the migrant workers. It was nice to have a washing machine and dryer, however, it would've been really nice to have it indoors. The fencing had to be the issue for us since it was about 4.5 feet maybe less. Mailboxes were never secured. I could never lock my mailbox up when I got the mail; which is a huge safety risk, as anyone can just take mail and open it up. Huge concern for identity theft, especially during my time there, people were making purchases by buying expensive items and stopped when I moved out. Cops were always called out during the afternoon or the weekends due to someone violating their probation. Parking was a pain. Our neighbor would park so close to the white line that I couldn't use the driver side to get into my car, or even put one of my kids in. Pool is never heated. We were also never shown where the gym or anything was prior to moving in, so I can't say what it was like. read more

The grounds here are nice. Most units have been upgraded with new flooring, paint, dishwashers plus washer/dryers. Now the bad. The quality of construction on the upgrade was done as cheaply as possible. In addition, my rent was increased after my first 6 month lease by $82 month. Others have stated this is because of the upgrades but my unit had already been upgraded when I moved in. Now my lease is up in two months and guess what, my rent is increasing another $18 month so make that a $100 dollar increase in 12 months!!! My two cents is that a lot of these units were sitting empty because of the higher rents. So what does the Diplomat do? They contract with a local farm company, put in bunk beds in two bedroom apartments and then move in 4 young adults per unit, which they did to the apartment above me. Now I get woken up every morning around 4:30am from the creaking floors as our resident farm workers get ready for work!!! I complained to Art the manager about the noise and was told there was nothing they could do. These units are zoned R1 and were predominately single families and military personnel living here. Now we have a dormitory setting with a large influx of migrant workers. The dynamics of these apartments was completely changed overnight!!! We now have young male adults loitering outside whenever they are not at work. I would not feel safe to bring and family with children to these apartments. Diplomat apartments and Trinity Property Consultants obviously only care about how much profit they can make and not our quality of living. read more

UPDATE for April 2016. First the good: 1-The migrant workers have left for now. Since the work is seasonal we will find out in a month or so if they will be back. It is much nicer here without them. 2-We had a few maintenance issues that were fixed quickly. The bad: 1-There was ZERO follow-up to my original review. Samantha W. of the Diplomat Apartments that responds to these reviews is Arturo in the management office which is pretty disengenous. I asked multiple times about moving to an upstairs unit and received no follow through despite numerous assurances that he would "look into it". If you rent here be prepared for a very frustrating experience when dealing with the manager. The lady that now works here is nice enough....but Art is absolutely frustrating to deal with. 2-New lease time. Our 12 month lease expired last month (March 31st). We have three months left until we have an alternate place to live. The Diplomat Apartments offers 3/6/12 month leases (with varying prices). Month to month would be $1520 a month while a 3 month would be $1470. So it would save $150 over the few month period. I knew I would be here until July 1st so I talked to the management about signing a three month lease (April,May,June)No need to pay extra money at that point. Art said no problem, come back later I will have the paperwork ready. I come back and the new contract says it ends July 31st. I asked him why is it a 4 month lease and not 3 like they advertise? His answer was to laugh in my face and say that the system doesn't work that way. So despite paying FOUR pay periods (April, May, June, July).....the Diplomat Apartments doesn't consider that FOUR months. They consider that THREE months. Ridiculous. He did slip up and mention that this has happened to plenty of people before me so it sounds like the Diplomat is opening themselves up for a lawsuit by false advertising. 3-Attempts to contact the regional manager and customer service for Trinity Property Consultants have resulted in nothing. I have sent multiple emails, left voice-mails with their customer service, and their regional managers. There has been ZERO response to my requests (not even demanding requests, just for clarification). It sounds like if you have any issue that the management doesn't want to try to resolve your only recourse is to speak to a lawyer. That alone should speak volumes about this place. 4-LAST update. I didn't notice it at first, but when looking at these reviews there is a section of reviews that are "Not recommended" because they were flagged by yelp. If you are a prospective tenant PLEASE read this section. There is a news article in there from 2015 about a drug lab that was busted at this complex. Other reviews will say the same thing that I am. Old Style right out of the 60's, You can hear your neighbors through the walls, the Gym really sucks, the pool was dirty, the dish washer didn't clean the dished. However, they maximize the rent they can get. They collect the rent on time, but shine you on for requests like getting the TVs or the equipment in the GYM to work. Upon moving out we left the apartment cleaner than when we arrived, yet they held back as much as they could get away with. Only bright spot was the maintenance guy - friendly and responsive. read more

Place is terrible the people are reallllly fake don't fall for it they rip you off and completely ignore me afterwords I never done them wrong always paid bills ahead of time. They like to take people's money after denying them for a rental after place of business. They even deleted their page on Facebook. This happened to my lovely fiance and they're trying to give her some runaround and some BS but she have proof that she paid the fee for the application. This place is terrible. The photos LOOK nice, and the apartment is OKAY when you first move in, but everything is falling apart! We put a work order in of about 15 issues on our THIRD day living here! 3 MONTHS go by only have one or two of the issues actually get attention. It was only after I had an Air Force representative come discuss the issues with the manager that things began to be fixed. I lived at the Diplomat for 3 years saw a lot of changes in that time. Moved out in December when I bought a house. The office staff has always been helpful and courteous to my wife and myself. Can't say enough good things about the maintenance guys. Very nice and respond fast when we had an issue with anything. When my husband and I moved to Santa Maria, we were excited to start our new jobs and get settled. We searched for 4 months for a place to live but couldn't find anything near our job in Santa Maria....The only place that we could afford and would take our dogs was the Diplomat Apartments in Lompoc. The rent was reasonable and the owners were kind and helpful. The apartments are now under new management and they have done a lot of improvements. (washer/dryer, new flooring, new paint which is plastered over layers of old paint, a dishwasher, small fitness area, ect) There is a huge back porch which we love. We signed a 6 month lease and now they are raising our rent which is unfortunate. We also could not get anyone to come fix anything but overall we have enjoyed living here. The area feels safe and it's close to shopping as well! read more

I would highly not recommend the diplomat to rent. We should've read the reviews before we moved in. When we first saw the pictures we thought it was extremely nice for the price! We were told by Art that we would have brand new carpets and countertops! We were not able to see our apartment until after we paid first months rent and we finally moved in only to realize that of course the pictures do not do justice of how it looks. It wasn't that nice. Now almost a year later I've been doing construction with the apartment below us for about a month now. Loud noises ever i've been doing construction with the apartment below us for about a month now. Loud noises and the construction guys talking really loudly. The walls are super thin and we ended up moving to the smaller room due to our neighbors "having fun" late at night and it was loud. The pools are never cleaned. The past month we've been having our water turned off without a warning. Sometimes going off for 30 mins. I wish management would do a better job of letting the us know what's going on. read more

If you are thinking about moving to the Diplomat, DON'T! The pool is always dirty, and management seems friendly at first, but then they are not tenant friendly. After moving in we realized that there were many things in the apartment that needed to be fixed. When you put a work request in you will be waiting awhile before your issue is resolved, if it ever gets resolved. If you are searching for peace and quiet you will not get it here. You can hear the neighbors whether you are upstairs or downstairs. People are always talking outside at all hours. Plus there is a senior center right across the street where you hear firetrucks and ambulances all day and night. If you are thinking of moving to Lompoc just do not move to the Diplomat! read more

Worst apartment complex I have ever stayed at. I would not recommend anyone to rent from here. The apartments are old, they never tell you when they are turning off the water during the afternoons. Drains get clogged really easy. Ceiling are too low and walls are so thin. Good luck sleeping at night especially if you're on the first floor. On top of everything else they sneaky. They pre rated me for a move out date for which I had paid then after everything was settled they called me to tell me that I had to pay for the entire of the month. I don't understand why they pre rated me for another date and then try to charge me the whole month. The new manger Octavio talks about how they do their best to be transparent and clear with their tenants but they clearly are not. He also told me it's a good learning experience for me, for the future when I try to rent another apartment . I would much rather live anywhere else but there. read more

Horrible service at the most over priced apartments in the town or the village. Like many have already stated sound travels through these apartments so easy!!! Meth lab found in one of the units? Could be another apartment complex but im pretty sure it was diplomat apartments. Maintenance is horrible had broken soup fixture in bathroom that took 6 months to have repaired. Fan in the restroom has been out for 6+months. Lighting down the stairs has been out for 6+ months. I mean if this is meant for family apartments does this just mean diplomat apartments doesn't care about families??? Sad part is these were great apartments to live in until diplomat bought these then they went down hill fast. Steer clear of these apartments if you can!!! And to diplomat do your self a favor and fire every employee on your staff contact the old owner and hire all the people you let go.... read more

The apartment I leased was, in my opinion, initially overpriced but acceptable for the location and size of the room. My follow on experience in the area told me I would have been better with weekly/monthly rate at a local hotel. The value was much better than this place. The apartment was very small and connected to the laundry room and although there was a sign posted it was closed at 10:00 pm, people didn't care and would do laundry at all hours of the night. When I tried to explain to one person doing laundry at 2:00 am that there was someone next door trying to sleep, the response was "sounds like a personal problem". I did lodge a complaint with management and no action was taken. I lived in the apartment about 5 months and there were no less than 4 major breakdowns: Shower pipe came off the connection, water faucet exploded, the water line in the upper level broke and flooded the apartment, and the portable closet for hanging clothes collapsed. Maintenance WAS VERY PROACTIVE in responding to these issues. This is, in fact, the only positive comment I have about this company. My initial lease was for 3 months and when my work contract was extended I had to renew the lease or pay month to month. A new lease raised the rent by $100 and month to month raised it by $200. I could not believe their audacity and blatant greed. I could have relocated but I felt trapped since my employment contract was only for an additional 3 months with an uncertain future, so I stayed. After I gave my 30 days notice the company sent out a final payment notice which was cool. Unfortunately, I received a letter from a collection agency FIVE DAYS LATER. These people are vicious and I felt taken advantage of, I would NOT RECOMMEND this place under any circumstances. Their conduct was unacceptable to me and I felt as if their only concern was money and not their tenants. read more

The pictures are nice, the management is not. Before the new management took over this was a lovely place to live, honest management, a genuinely nice manager and maintenance was not that great but was far from bad. All of that changed a little after the new management moved in. In the last 3-5 months i know of over 7 people who have left due to the way this management runs things. From apartment issues not being taken care of in a timely manner to the front office (Art) telling you one thing then doing another, it is just horrible to have to deal with. Of the 7 people I personally know who left, 4 of them had to get or threaten to get lawyers due to "The Diplomat Apartments" threatening you with their lawyer. (I'm starting to see that is their favorite thing to do when it comes to getting your deposit back and for various other reasons.) Due to their actual service being trash they are now trying to butter people up by offering a new washer (Thank goodness because the regular washers on the premises are disgusting and broken).....a new dishwasher (which must be cheap because mines was broke a few days after receiving it.) painted interior....(Uhhh, that should be something that is done anyways.)....painted exterior (Looks like they stole the colors straight from the back of a circus tent) and a Gym. Pretty cool they are adding all these things before fixing the horrible issues that exist. I.E. Plumbing-Multiple peoples apartments have flooded and Hot Water-Hope you don't like taking hot showers longer then 8 minutes at most. Don't let them fool you with the "Nice things" they are -adding-. You can dip dog crap in gold all you want, it might be nice and shiny, but at the end of the day...it is still dog crap. Don't get screwed over like so many of us have, be patient. For the prices they now have the nerves to charge everyone, you can find a house to rent for the exact same price or close to it. Even the Condo's 1 minute down the street is a way better choice. Next time you happen to drive by, look at ALL the empty apartments. They are empty for a reason. I was able to receive $250 back from my deposit which is fair. My dog ruined the carpet and it had to be replaced when I moved. Rent has risen because of all the renovations that has been done by the new owners. The new maintenance man is a great guy and responds to calls quickly. I would recommend anyone to live here if you want to be surrounded by military people and live in a quiet neighborhood. read more

The Diplomat, where should I start? Well, it's a shelter. Nice Neighborhood Just not this apartment. It's an Eyesore. You'll think it'll be nice when they lure you here because of the location but it's not. The first thing you going to notice is how cheap the leasing office looks on the inside. Not really telling but it's more to come. We take a tour of one of the apartments you look around the carpet wasn't up to par. We got there and the carpet was full of dirt and cat hair when we moved in. Take a turn in the kitchen, A metal piece on the ground was sticking up. The apartment wasn't clean fully so I said to my self "It won't be that bad coming move in day they'll have to fix the problems that we saw and pointed out". Nope, It didn't happen. Everything was the same as we saw it. Allergies were killing me and made it hard to breathe. Had to vacuum the floor constantly till all the cat hair was picked up. Had to call maintenance multiple times to fix the problems we saw from the tour. We shouldn't have to do that. It's a business you want to retain customers and not get bad press or reviews learn how to keep your word when you say you going to do something, do it. Later on staying in the apartment, the toilet kept clogging up. I'm pretty sure that we are not overstuffing the toilet with a bunch of tissue. Like every second we're calling maintenance about the freaking toilet. It seems that our neighbors that were experiencing the same issue. And every time that we called for maintenance the management thought it was a conspiracy that we were calling them so much. So rude on the phone talking to them. Well, fix your plumbing then. After breaking the lease for personal reasons, they took my whole deposit and charge a $230 cleaning bill?! I wonder did the previous tenets paid a high cleaning bill. The place had a bunch of dirt and cat hair in the carpet when we moved in keeping their word that they were going to clean before we moved in and want to charge money for that lol. wish I could give this place zero stars. did a 12 month lease and bought myself out after only 3 months. the apartments are basically like a cardboard box. I could hear my neighbors next to me and below me snoring, showering, coughing, farting..you name it. only good thing is their pet policy is lenient...however, a lot of the pet owners don't pick up after their dogs which is highly aggravating. there were also a lot of dogs who would NOT stop barking. I also received a lot of attitude from management when going through the process of buying out of the lease. I understand that it's not something ideal (for both parties), but at least be professional! so glad I've been out of that dump. such a waste of time and money. read more
