We were in the area looking for a bar to stop into grab a drink. Came in shortly after they opened and was greeted by Jacob. He was incredibly sweet and conversational which we loved! We sat outside to have a drink and chat, throughout the time we were there, he came out to check on us to make sure everything was all good. When we went back inside to order, its like he read our minds and knew what was next. We were beyond impressed with the professionalism and feeling comfortable all around. We highly recommend and will stop by again. Thank you so much for the hospitality!

Love the Doolittle. Remodeled about 10 years ago and has a very good and friendly crowd of people. Recent Thursday karaoke visit was enjoyable. This bar has a great crowd of people. Nobody rowdy and nobody who can't handle their alcohol. I would say people are about 30 years old on average - its not really the place 21 year olds come for their first drink. Remodeled about 10 years ago and it still looks great. If the last time you were here was long long ago you need to see the place. Wooden siding gives it a warm atmosphere - its almost like your in a cabin. You will be blown away with how they did so much with such a small space. This is a very cozy bar. Very friendly. I love the tiny outdoor covered patio. Its great for smoking and the tall fence between the parking lot and the building makes for a comfortable space to be. If you need a place a little more quiet to talk this is your best bet. Karaoke was impressive. There was such talent singing all the songs from mostly 20 years ago. Sappy love songs and other favorite hits. Voices were very very good. I can't tell you how many paid cover bands I listen to that are horrible. Tonight (Friday) I was at the Elevate Lounge and the (paid) singer was horrible. Horrible, horrible. I suppose thats what sparks me to write this right here right now. If your in the Hayward San Leandro area don't hesitate to come here an extra mile.

So this my 2nd time here and I can definitely say it's going down up in here the music is playing old school. New school all types of different music that's awesome the crowd is vibing to the music. Btw the drink is soooooo damn good it's definitely something different the drink of choice was a Chipotle Paloma ,, the bartender Jacob is amazing he's yon point with his drink choice..... A hidden gem! Great drinks, quiet and comfortable to get some work done if needed, and friendly baristas. They don't serve any hot food, only some pre wrapped pastries and snacks, but they do allow you to bring your own food or order deliveries. And of course free wifi =]

The drinks are delicious, but Jake makes this place golden. Like, seriously! We walked in and were greeted instantly. We weren't completely ready so we told him he could help the people who walked in behind us. After taking care of them, he came back to us and asked if we had any questions. We placed our orders and he suggested I try my Hennessy sour with egg whites. I was very hesitant and he reassured me it would be delicious or he'd remake it. THREE ROUNDS LATER. I think I'll be requesting that egg whites be added going forward. It was soooo freakin' good. When the bar wasn't too busy Jake would come check on us to see if we wanted another round-- he's singlehandedly responsible for us drinking as much as we did and we appreciate it. The Doolittle is a small little bar located at the end of a shopping plaza. Parking is available, but it's limited. They have an outside dining tent that holds about 6 high tables and about 6 booths in the inside. They play some pretty good tunes, but not so loud that you can't hear your party talking. Plus. Most bars fail at that. Another thing, I was extremely surprised at how clean and well kept the restroom was. Gold star for that. Great service. Nice atmosphere. And the drinks are reasonably priced too. I think we spend $80 for three rounds. Easy tab close out too. I'll definitely return.

The only bar worth going to in CV. One review mentioned you could stay all day, and that my friends is true, this place is great for day drinking for a few hours, the bar tender will even help you call Pizza express when you're three beers in and giggly. Altamont on tap is AMAZING. Can get busy but always a nice clientele and a clean aesthetic. Plenty of Tom Petty for everyone and bearded boys to flirt with. When it's busy you do have a fight to be seen to get your order in. And all the water you can drink for the sober crowd. read more

Eddie behind the bar is very engaging and attentive to all the patrons, remembers people's names and the drinks they prefer. Music is great, they play vinyl and will play what a guest brings in. Cocktails are made with fresh ingredients. Very tasty and there is a nice selection on tap for the beer enthusiast. It has been 3 years since I had 2 less than pleasant experiences, gave them another shot and had a great evening. read more

Stumbled across this bar on accident. My friend and I had a four hour gap in between classes and decided to kill some time and go have A drink. The ambiance is great. Jake, the co-owner and bar tender, was awesome! The drinks were really good and fair pricing! This will be our Wednesday spot for sure! read more

First, I gotta say The Dolittle is Do-Alotta because my husband and I have been trying to find a place like this that's close by, with a welcoming vibe and mellow. What can I say other than THANK YOU for coming. You can see from the decor, the lighting, and drinks that there was thought into this. In the past, (try like as recent as 2 wks ago), we'd have to venture outside to Oakland or Berkeley; so talk about counting your change for drinks and gas money. Not anymore. Great place, tip of the hat for support to local breweries, and keep on rocking. This is a gem. read more

So ever since moving to Castro Valley from Oakland, I've had a hard time adjusting to the stagnancy of all the chain restaurants and dive bars. Yelp brought us to The Doolittle, and it's unlike anything else this town has to offer! The bartender, Eddie, could tell by our deer in headlights look that we were first timers, and made us feel right at home (even asking if we had any music requests from the extensive record collection!) For the beer lover, they offer a great selection of craft beers, even giving some love to our local breweries. For the cocktail lover, they make fresh, unique, and memorable handcrafted libations. There's a lot of love going into each drink, and you can taste it! As far as the scene, it's nothing like the other bars in CV I've checked out. This is a place you can feel comfortable bringing your folks, your date, or even your work colleagues. They're really doing something special at The Doolittle and I can't wait to return! read more

Wow finally found a good bar in Castro Valley! I heard from friends that the old bar in this location was shady, but this new bar is really cool! It has a homey-hipstery vibe to it and is definitely comparable to bars in SF. The servers are really nice-- one guy gave us a free sample of some beer! By far and away the best bar in Castro Valley. Vintage vibe and rustic decor with a casual but well-mannered crowd. Fantastic cocktails and a solid selection of craft beers, and ciders. No longer a need to drive out of town to grab a few drinks and talk with friends. Ask Eddie to make you his Whiskey Sour. read more

Long overdue. The owner of this establishment is the reason it is as successful as it is. Not to say that the bartenders he hired are not as wonderful, because they are. But I would like to give full credit to Jake for creating such a phenomenal establishment from essentially nothing. Top quality beer and liquor are what drew me here, but the hospitality and home vibe are what kept me staying and coming back. Love this place! read more

Stopped in after work on Friday because of the positive Yelp reviews. The bartender on duty was first rate. Probably one of the better bartenders I have experienced. This is a young place that is building a good personality, and I am looking forward to watching them grow. We'll be back, and we are spreading the word. read more

This place is a hidden gem of dive bars for sure. I was happily surprised with the ambiance here. I was leaving Eden after visiting a family member on a Wednesday night, super tired, frustrated, worried and needing a drink around 10:30pm. Spotted this place, went in not expecting much just needing to kill a little time...am definitely happy i chose to go here. I usually just go for a beer, here they have a nice big selection too...but I felt tonight needed a little something more, so I ordered a lemon drop. It was tasty and was a perfect ratio. the prices were pretty good too. I will definitely return next time i'm in town. read more

Came here on a Thursday night with a few coworkers. Had no intention of drinking too much, so I went up to the bar and ordered a Cran and Goose, $9. Eh, not a big deal. Not too bad of a drink for one night. This place isn't a typical dive bar looking place. The bar is fairly lit up, plenty of sitting space and huge booths for parties of 6-8. As the 5 of us sat at one of the high tops, a few more of our associates came and began to order shots and other drinks. One of them ordered a few gin & tonics for whoever, and they were all inconsistent. One tasted more like water, the other alcohol (gin), the other tonic water. There was 8 of us at the end of the night and noticed that most of the drinks tasted differently than the other, not sure if the bartender was just trying to rush us out because we walked in at about 11pm (when most of us got out of work) or something else. Whatever the reason, I am not totally against this watering hole but it wouldn't exactly be my first spot either. read more

Nice chill bar. A great safe place to catch up with old friends. Awesome selection of beers and the cocktails here are fresh squeezed. Excellent service. I think this place is way cute... And the canoe? Clearly if you don't get it then you didn't grow up here. Don't you remember that gawk afwul cv sign with the canoe that our town full of old folk had reared down. Well that sign was ugly but the Doolittle is not. Wow. Rodeo weekend and the owners son closes the bar 45 min early. I I'll never step foot in this bar again. I spent 50.00 bucks and was kicked out 10 min later. The owner son called last call at 1:15. Another failed Castro Valley business. read more

There are also pool tables to use for free! There's also a DJ that plays GOOD r&b, hip hop, pop, and even some throwbacks too! The DJ that night took song requests and even gave a shoutout to the birthday girl in our group too. The cocktails were good, and I'm sad I didn't take pictures of it (had too much fun). The waitress will come to your table and you can order there OR you can also order at the bar. When I ordered at the bar, the waitress was so nice and helped me bring the drinks over to our table. I also had a taste of the fries, and the cups and guac and it was tasty too! There's some parking right infront or a parking lot behind the bar. I will definitely come back!

We ordered 4 shareable items: * Savoy Donuts - 5 stars - fluffy and yummy, not greasy at all * Focaccia w/ Meyer Lemon and Garlic Confit - 4.5 stars - wonderful texture, did not taste the garlic much but the lemon was really good add. * Grilled Beef and Pork Chipolata - 4 stars - I think the star was the dressing. The meat itself was just okay. * Rice Vermicelli Bowl - 4.5 stars - not sure why it is called a bowl when it was served more in a plate. This is the fusion take on the Vietnamese dish with different dressing. We selected the Galangal Pork, which I did not like as much compared to the usual Vietnamese ones with Lemon Grass. There is a choice to select Lemongrass chicken instead, so you might want to try that. The pork tasted "porky" despite it was thinly cut. I was hoping to try dessert, but we were full so we did not do that. Next time. The restaurant is nicely set, and you can select indoor or outdoor seating. We did make a reservation, but when we arrived there were plenty of tables available. Service was fine, we did not get the "is this your first time" greeting as I heard other tables got. But it was our first time.

He created a space where people felt safe to express themselves and enjoy music without feeling judged. Coming back tonight was already emotionally difficult for me because I am still grieving his loss heavily. I became emotional while trying to explain how much Drew meant to me and how some of the interactions that night made me feel dismissed and unwelcome during a vulnerable moment. I also want to respectfully mention that certain details surrounding Drew's passing did not need to be repeatedly brought up in conversation. I understand no harm may have been intended, but hearing those details spoken about so openly was deeply upsetting and emotionally difficult for me personally. I calmly approached the owner and said I wasn't trying to cause drama and simply wanted to express how hurt and unheard I felt. His response was, "I don't want drama," before walking away from me while I was crying and trying to explain myself. That moment honestly broke my heart even more. I completely understand businesses have rules, closing times, and boundaries. But when someone is grieving the loss of a person who helped create such a loving environment there, compassion and kindness matter deeply. Drew always made people feel like they could take up space and be themselves. I just wish my first experience returning after his passing had reflected even a fraction of the warmth and humanity he gave to others.

At which point, the juke box began to play so loud that not only could I no longer hear anything of the Grammy's, I couldn't hear myself think. I paid and left my beer on the counter. I get that this was not an ideal setting to watch the Grammy's but I had called ahead. There was no need to play the jukebox at that level given the patronage that was there IMO. The Grammy's come on once a year surely, watching Bruno Mars live is a better choice than a juke box.

Love this place and always have a good time when I go here. I have friends that live in CV and it's really the only place to go that's not full of middle-aged Trump supporters (the ones may or may not shout "they took arrr jeeeeerbs"). They have new beers on tap every week it seems and bartenders are always very helpful and make suggestions! The bartenders are also friendly and cute. Vibrant and full of young people on the regular, everyone is friendly and talkative. Not to say you won't run into the occasional weirdo but, worth it for the new friends you can meet! Great place to socialize and WOMEN FRIENDLY! Give it a try and get ready for some great IPAs! read more

Definitely one of my favorite bars to go to! Haven't been in a while due to work and time constraints but when I do come for a drink I always get asked where I have been. The bartenders and owners care about their customers, their bar, and the quality of beers and cocktails. The place is very clean, has tons of TVs to watch games or shows.
