We discovered The Dirty Bird Lounge during a recent day spent in the Hayward/Castro Valley area. There is the lounge, and then there is the Dirty Bird speakeasy, which has more limited hours and was not open during our visit. We'll return at some point to try it. We entered the lounge through a very cool keyhole entryway, and found a very spacious lounge with plenty of seating. The bartender greeted us promptly. They had happy hour going on, and the prices were decent. There is a food vendor called Tailfeather Kitchen in the same space, around the corner from the bar, with a pretty extensive menu of offerings. We ordered a margherita pizza, and it was tasty. Always great to see a bar that serves food. Upbeat music and a fun atmosphere. We had a nice time and would return. Looking forward to trying the speakeasy one day. read more

We popped in here after a late brunch in Castro Valley. Sometimes when we leave the island we stay off the island for a bit. A short drive to Hayward and we are here. There are 2 Dirty Bird's here. The lounge at street level and the speakeasy Dirty Bird of Paradise downstairs with limited hours. Cool barrel shape entry to the lounge with lots of couches and short tables with the main bar in the back. There is a massive patio in the back through the doors and to the left. For a local neighborhood bar they had a very good tequila selection along with other spirits and beer, beer, of course. Nice selection of house cocktails also. It can get pretty loud in there especially when the bros are yelling at the TV airing football or the drunk ladies taking way to many shots. There is a separate food business around the corner from the bar called Tailfeather Kitchen with a pretty good menu. We had the megherita pizza. Order and pay, get a number, sit somewhere and the food comes out. On this Sunday afternoon it appeared there might have been a one or two dads where it was "their weekend", given a couple of kids hanging out with a the babysitting tablet. It's the dirty bird lounge! I mean it's not much that can be said about it that hasn't already. It's not my favorite place, not my preffered place, but it's local and it's always going to be a go to for quick last minute fun nights. Infact this is the first time I've been here since they opened the lower level and the lower level is definitely a dope addition. They have two separate drink menus for both levels and they also recheck ID for entering the lower level. Music here is always on point. They do a great job of mixing it up from classic bay area, to classic hip-hop and RNB and then back to current hip-hop and RNB. Drinks are usually hit or miss but bartenders, at least the lower level ones, are gorgeous babes. I hear this place is a neighborhood legend. I grew up in the peninsula area but all the east bay friends often share stories about memorable nights here lol. Parking is a little difficult, they don't have a lot. It's a large venue that can accommodate large groups. Then serve typical bar food. Staff were nice enough. Their happy hour espresso martini for 10 dollars is pretty good. I knocked off a couple start because we came on a Wednesday for kareoke night. I love coming here!! Anytime any of my friends want to go here I'm in. I love the weekends because they have DJs!! Music!! Fun!! We came on a Wednesday for karaoke and that was a fun night too. Their food in the back is sometimes a hit or miss. The drinks are always good but on the weekends when it's busy they limit the drinks to order to common drinks like margaritas shots and beer. I still haven't gone towards the back but I've seen in photos there is an outdoor there and I just found out they have a speakeasy downstairs through a hidden door in the wall up front. I've had nothing but positive experiences here. The newly added Speakeasy (Paradise Lounge) offers a slightly more intimate/upscale venue. We arrived on a Friday evening. Had drinks and appetizers upstairs. Pours were generous. Happy hour menu is commendable. Try the Margarita or Moscow Mule for a way to kick start your occasion. DJ began spinning around 8PM at the speakeasy. People began trickling in as the night progressed. Pool tables available for added fun! There's a dining area in the speakeasy that appears to be available for private events like birthday parties. One thing to note is the heavy amount of security staff. They were mostly friendly throughout our visit. That's a huge plus. Anything I've ever tried on their food menu has been great. Food orders are taken at a kiosk near the rear. read more

My new fave karaoke spot in the East Bay. They have karaoke every Wednesday and every time I've gone so far, it draws a diverse crowd, talented singers, and everyone is so welcoming. There's definitely a sense of community here. Bartender is always patient with me and greets me with a smile and the cocktails are strong. Always a good time at the Dirty Bird, I'm almost 40 and I've been coming here since I was in college, still checks out. These days I may meet a date or friend for a weeknight night cap and wings and this place is just my speed. There's always parking, the drinks are stiff and affordable. The guy in the front with glasses was giving attitude because I asked if there usually is a cover charge. Typically I come most weekends early so I never had to pay before. This time I came at 11 pm and just asked and he said with attitude "if you come all the time, what's my name then" and then brought his security guy coworkers into it. There are at least 10 different securities every weekend, how would I know their name? I spend a lot of money here every month at the dirty bird I would expect a little more customer service and politeness. That was very rude and unnecessary. This is a lounge and thay serve delicious fish tacos. The vibe is chill This is a solid spot if you're looking for good food especially the fish tacos, which were the highlight of our visit. Food service is separate from the bar, and ordering was easy. The cashier was friendly and organized; she gave us a number and brought our food directly to the table, which we appreciated. The atmosphere is fun and works well for hanging out with friends. The crowd definitely changes by night: Fridays tend to attract an older crowd (30s and up), while Saturdays lean more toward college students and people in their 20s. It's nice that the vibe shifts depending on when you go. That said, the bar service was disappointing during this visit. There was only one bartender working. When I approached the bar, a female staff member served another customer and then walked past me to the back, leaving the bartender alone. Unfortunately, he became engaged in conversation with a group at the bar and ignored me even after I waved to get his attention. Several people who arrived after me were served first. After waiting for quite some time, I eventually walked away without getting a drink. This was especially frustrating since the place was only about one-third full at the time. Parking can also be a challenge, with street parking and a rear lot that tend to fill up quickly. I've been here before, and drink prices are generally reasonable, so I hope the bar service was just an off night. Overall the service is good and the venue is nice but they have to change up the music. It's the same songs evertime I go. Clearly mostly everyone wasn't even dancing to what the dj was playing. Nice place! Lots of potential I wasn't sure how to order there's no waitress and you have to ring a bell to order food. I think the girl had a horrible day she was a vibe kill and I don't think she should be facing customers she came out of the back and not friendly at all. Went to Dirty Bird with family expecting a fun night, but the experience turned really uncomfortable because of one of the security guards. In the video I took, my family and I can see the black security guard trying to slickly rub my auntie's back and even sliding his hand down her back while trying to move around her. It came off completely unnecessary and inappropriate. There's a difference between doing your job and making customers uncomfortable. Security should know how to keep situations professional and respectful at all times. My family left feeling weirded out by the whole interaction. Hopefully management takes complaints like this seriously and addresses the behavior. read more

The place was quiet enough inside at 5:30p on a Sunday, for us to actually hear each other as we conversed. The security guys invited us in, they explained there was a DJ in the back patio, and Bachata dancers. We were welcomed to come in. Lovely outdoor patio. Drinks are actually very well made! But expensive ~$16 per cocktail. We tried a tequila cocktail and a vodka one (I forgot the names lol). Pool games are free which is nice! They have two pool tables and a bunch of seating. They also have a DJ playing but no dance floor. It's more chill and classy. If you want to dance, go upstairs. I used to frequent here but not anymore. Food is great. Drinks are average but take a while since they only had 2 bartenders on a busy night. I went on a night there was karaoke and 2 bartenders were not enough. The lady running the karaoke is the reason for my bad review. She was in a foul mood the whole time, I asked her a question about and she said "I can't hear it's too loud" girl you're literally in charge of the volume and sound. They had a $8 cover charge and have dress attire enforce. We got there around ~8p and there was a short line outside The space is really nice. They have 5 tables by the DJ area, two high tables by the pool area and a huge communal table in a separate room. There are also 4-5 round tables by the bar area. We sat by the DJ which happened to be too loud and will never do that again. It was very hard to converse. Their drink menu was cool. They have a very huge selection of goood tequila! They also offer a few food items which were decent but a tiny bit over piece ($8 for 1 empanada, eeek). We were downstairs when the security started kicking everybody out. We wanted to ask him if we could use the bathroom before we leave. Instead of listening to our question, he yelled in my husband's face:"get the f* out of here n*". He used n* word on my husband just for trying to ask a question. The outside doesn't do it justice. The bar is very loud and you can barely have a conversation. Bartenders for the most part was alright besides the male bartender that said there was a 20% tip for using the phone tap to pay. While another bartender was just charging a dollar. So what I find shady is each bartender wants to make there on tipping system. I am more than happy to tip but Mr. bartender the male one if are in that bad of a need of twenty percent for two drinks then so be it. I just found out that my daughter was at this bar last week on Saturday night and after a second drink she felt extremely ill. We believe that her drink was spiked with something. I've been to this Hayward staple a few times now. It's a local hangout, spacious tables inside with a nice back patio area. They serve some decent bar foods; chicken wings, sliders, flatbread and some Mexican dishes. Happy hour is from 2-7 Tues-Sun. The lounge features a tunnel-like entrance, a large open space, beautiful and unique artwork on the walls, nice lighting, exposed brick, cement flooring, an inviting atmosphere quite loud with plenty of conversation echoing throughout, kitchen at the right hand side of the bar (food served late), QR codes at the tables for drink and food menus, hip hop music playing in the background, dj coming on around 9:45pm on a Saturday, and a lot of security staff around, not surprisingly since it seems to have more of a club atmosphere later at night. We simply enjoyed dinner here and tried a couple of cocktails from the bar menu, the pomegranate herradura margarita and tiger's blood. Both drinks were tasty and strong in alcohol. Went well with our dishes from the Tailfeathers menu (steak sliders, and beef and mushroom empanadas). Service was standard, and we enjoyed our entire experience here. read more
