I went here on a Wednesday for trivia with my friends. It was pretty empty, but it was a Wednesday night so I wasn't expecting that many people. The trivia was fun and my friends and I split a pitcher of cider for pretty cheap. As a BU student, I had to go to The Dugout, and I really enjoyed it. It is small, but it's a nice atmosphere, definitely chill and fun to sit at a booth and drink with friends, good place to socialize and have a drink for a cheap price, especially if you're a poor college student. I really enjoyed it and there is even some good finger food/pub food to have with your drinks. read more

It smells bad and the draft beer is stale, and the TV from 1992 plays bad movies at high volume. But never has a $3 Rolling Rock tasted so good. Coming here after work for a few cold rolling rocks is a treat. UPDATE: Still all the things above but the bartender is becoming increasingly rude. Rude to the point that I'm not going there anymore. Doing a pub crawl near BU, then the Dug Out is a must. Please note this is a dive bar, it's underground from some BU offices. Free popcorn and a fairly ordinary beer selection. I hazily remember the jukebox being good but this is not a 1st stop location unless you live upstairs. Those in the know, call it the Deu-joux. Most BU alums will have at least a few good memories of this place, provided they didn't drink too much. read more

Love the Dugout. It's great for meeting after a class at BU and talking about a project over a beer. It's also great to go to the crappy Wednesday night trivia with the dude who can't pronounce anything. Delicious free popcorn, too, as long as the machine isn't broken! There's almost always a few interesting beers on tap, but they don't change too often. My biggest complaint is that it's still a little expensive for a dive bar. read more

Since I went after the BU students were gone for the summer, this place was great :-) It wasn't crowded at all on a Saturday night at around 10 PM during a big Celtics game. I lasted all of 3 minutes. Minute 1- Walked in, hubs asked for a restroom & we were told they are closed !!??!!?? He ignores us after saying that and continues regaling the couple at the he seemed to know. The bar is pretty much empty at this point. Minute 2- Sat down at the bar and asked for a Chardonnay and was told they don't have whites. I asked for a Pinot Noir and the horribly rude and menacing bartender says "I said no WHITE wine"! Never mind that I asked for a house Pinot noir. I order whatever red they have. Minute 3- I spot a bottle of white and point it out to him and he starts yelling at me. I grab my husband's arm and just walk right out. I am visibly shaken and telling my husband am so glad we got out, the two gentlemen smoking next to the bar give me a look that says "I hear you". Nobody deserves to feel unsafe at a bar. We walked to the nearest bar and the ladies there told us about the horror stories many of the female customers have narrated to them about this bar. The Dugout... the place I have gotten shitfaced at so many times, I can't even begin to try to count. The Dugout is a bar frequented by B.U. students and professors alike. Is this place high class? Hell no! And that's why I love it. Everything from the dark, underground setting, to the free popcorn, and cheap pitchers of PBR makes this place a jewel. When you get drunk enough, it's fun reading the names and messages carved into the tables and seats, some dating back to the 60s and 70s. What's even more fun is carving your name, and trying to find it a year or so later. Pros: - Huge, cheap pitchers of PBR - Free popcorn - Open pretty late - Decent juke box - Doesn't usually get too crowded - The atmosphere Cons: - Not smoky enough (due to the fascist MA anti-smoking laws) - Would be better if it were open til 4 am read more

The Dugout is a great place to sit and drink beer and not have to deal with fighting to get a bartender's attention or waiting in long lines. The popcorn is good and the beer is cold and priced well. I've had good experiences with Dave as a bartender. Easily accessible by T. Great before a Sox game or an Aggannis Event. read more

Shockingly rude. Please take note of other reviews by women who've had a similar experience like mine tonight. I was there between 9PM to 10PM to watch a comedy show there. I sat at the bar before the show. The bartender insulted me when I politely asked for a beer they didn't have, made condescending remarks, and then again insulted me when I asked for where the bathroom was. I didn't respond to any of his remarks because I didn't want to further trigger his aggression. Customers around who noticed his behavior asked me if I was ok and how terrible his comments were. Please teach your angry male staff a few lessons on customer service and basic decency. read more

The beer is cheap, but we saw a rat in full view freely roaming the kitchen....and no staff was watching. I wouldn't eat anything there.

like any good BUer, gotta love the Dugout. perfect place to head with out to with some friends before or after any game (Agganis Arena and Fenway are right around the corner) to grab a pitcher. or 2. or 10. great dive bar that's usually only crowded during the Beanpot. reasonable beer prices ($12 pitchers i think) they don't serve food here (except for some FREE popcorn) but they didn't say anything when i walked in with my food from U-Grill. read more

Haven't been to it but my Dad went to BU after "The War" (that would be WWII) and said the Dugout was a comfortable dive back then. Heard it hasn't changed! (BTW the word "Dugout" was a WWI (not WWII) term for a half-underground machinegun nest/protective bunker, so the place may go WAYYY back.) read more
