Then there was split teatime so Folk started on the back nine mid morning and the course was filled up yet it moved quick enough. The staff was great. The course was in good condition. The greens rolled good. The sand bunkers were an excellent condition and had been maintenance the morning of. Overall, just an excellent experience. I can see why some people would rate it low based on frustration of pace of play alone, but I say Book with confidence that you will get to play some golf. Played the blues sloped 127 perfect day of golf

I especially liked all the choices you had on the tee box. There were some tricky blind shots and a fair amount of water that comes into play. You get the GPS enabled carts and there is one bathroom on each side.

The Dye course is was being aerated so by default, I played the Love course today on a Monday with an 8am tee time. I was solo so I got paired with a father and son, John and Mike from Massachusetts. They had never played that course before so we all figured it out as we went along. The difficulty level is high. Many strategically placed bunkers. Many in the fairway, along the the sides of the fairway and many are green side bunkers. These impacted your play on most every hole. There is a fair amount of water that comes into play as well. There are ponds, creeks and marsh areas throughout. The tee boxes were all in excellent condition as were the greens. Most all of the fairways were green and well maintained. Like all the other Barefoot Resort courses, you get the GPS enabeled golf carts. There were two bathrooms on each of the nine holes. Pace of play was excellent and it didn't feel like it was crowded or rushed. We played 18 holes in about 4 hours and 15 minutes. There are several Par 3's that are very reachable. Like the other courses, you do not come back to the clubhouse on the turn. They did have a cart making regular rounds and were stocked with sandwiches as well as the beers, spirits and non-alcohol beverage choices. I got a great rate of $125.00 which is reduced from the Spring rate. I'll be looking forward to playing the Dye course my first opportunity.

So now I just paid $50. After 3 days, they Jack it up to $75. After one week it quadruples to $100. This is just shameful and disgraceful and I hope the town of Sunset NC lives to regret being so petty. Everything on and around the island is already pricey so I suppose the Sheriff and parking folks feel quite entitled. Get your act together Sunset and stop ripping people off you power and money hungry fascists.

I love a Pete Dye design, and while one of my courses back home is my favorite example, this one would not be far behind. Driving in you're confronted with a well manicured neighborhood, towering clubhouse with exceptional view of the 9th and 18th holes, plenty of parking, and a substantial restaurant and bar area. Everything about check in was a well oiled machine, and all the staff were courteous/helpful. The starter lied to us a little about how fast the greens were, preparing us for a very fast surface when i reality, it seemed about normal to me. Maybe I play a lot of fast greens? Not sure... but I didn't have putts racing away from me. Both the on course beverage cart and bar staff at the turn were great. Everything about the course was in great shape, except for the tee boxes, which we found to be pretty chewed up and absolutely covered in sand. Ultimately, if the one thing I am complaining about is the tee box, I can live with it. If I hit the ground on my tee shot, I probably did something wrong. Fairways were green and neither too hard or soft. Rough areas were recently cut, and the sandtraps were proper sand in most areas. The greens were flawless, and that's always the most important part to me, as I said before, rolled true not too fast. I had my worst round of the three here, but that was my own doing, not the course. There were scoring opportunities that I just didn't take advantage of. There is a good mix here of holes where you can let the big dog eat, and others where an iron or fairway wood off the tee is a smarter play. I'll definitely return here for another round on a future trip!

This is a subpar municipal AT BEST! The west course was heavily waterlogged, fairways were uncut the bunkers had no sand and the animals were feral. Giant black squirrels kept running around the tee box during my shot (I still hit the fairway). Last piece I want to mention is the price. I was led to believe that I could play the course for $5 (YOUTH ON THE COURSE) but they did not honor that and we wanted to add a cart fee to which they said they don't do here. Not sure where my $75 went but was hopefully donated to a better cause than this sorry establishment.

This is important considering just how much the cost of food has gotten in this current economy. Now I've never been a pork chop person but I do indeed love their stuffed pork chops. That should tell you something. Mary Bell is the woman in charge of the team preparing the dinner service and she's awesome. I've found Mary checking in with patrons in the dining area as well as being one of the folks helping people get their eats on the buffet line with a smile and a quick chat. My folks are there so much that they now seem like old friends. It's a pleasant atmosphere for sure and you will not leave hungry. There was still a three cart line up, so you may want to take this in consideration. Club house was fair. Had your typical refreshment area. Bathrooms for the lady's were lame! Dirty and very out dated. They did have a nice seating area in locker room, but that's it. Can't speak for the men's locker room. Its not bad enough to stay away. We'll probably be back.
