I hired the Educated Painters to paint the outside of my 1925 spanish style home which has lots of woodwork and details. I can't say enough great things about the work they did. The house looks great, we have had people stop and tell us how beautiful the house looks... that never happened before it was painted! Mark and his crew were fantastic. They were prompt, did great work and were patient with us as we worked to find the right colors. They re-painted some of the trim when we didn't like how the colors came out the first time. The time that they spent refurbishing the shutters and trim really stands out as they went above my expectations and it really shows. The price was fair and most importantly, the work was outstanding and I was so happy with the Educated Painters that I have since had them paint the interior of my house. We could not be more impressed by the service and results of The Educated Painters! We called Mark because we just wanted to repaint our sun-blasted trim on the house. Mark showed up promptly and convinced us -- rightly, I think -- that if we fixed the trim, the rest of the house would look bad by comparison, so we really needed to paint the entire exterior. Our house is a 75-year-old shingle-style house, and required a lot of carpentry work to replace termite-riddled and dry-rotted shingles before any painting could be done. As well, some of the shingles were curling at the corners and had to be pinned down, and there was a lot of hand sanding involved to remove the peeling paint. It is two stories high, and has a matching unattached garage, so it was a big job. And we would not only need a paint crew, but a carpenter as well. We also knew there was a dry rot problem on our balcony, and Mark said that the carpenter would have to have a look at it. The balcony ended up being about three times the job we thought it would be, thanks to sinking pillars, dry rot, and railings that were not up to current code. Now -- having spent a lot more than we were planning on originally -- we could not be more pleased with the results. Mark and his crew were as professional as you could hope, and pleased to accommodate our schedule and needs. At one point we had 18 workmen working on our house -- all told, the job took about 12 days. The result: the house looks great! The combination of colors Mark suggested is excellent and gives the house a richer look. We also painted the door a reddish-orange, contrasting to the creamy-white trim, which gives the house a warmer, more welcoming look. The rebuilt balcony is less likely to collapse in an earthquake, with attractive, up-to-code new railng so our small children can join us on it. Mark and the crew were polite, detail-oriented, and thorough in the job. The carpenter was thorough, quality-minded, and accepted a couple of suggestions I made for the balcony to improve its look and maintenance. And, in the end, even with a lot more work and materials than we were counting on, the price wasn't that far off from the original estimate and we think it was a great value for what we received. We will not hesitate to recommend The Educated Painters to anyone, and will call them again when we need painting! By the way, Mark told us that he got three other jobs from people who saw the crews at work at our home and how much better they made the house look! read more

Mark's team did a good job painting a portion of the exterior and interior of our home before it was featured on a home a tour. Afterwards, however, when we needed him to return to do some touch-up work, Mark failed to show up when promised and then failed to return our phone calls. I just had my 1921 redwood ship-lap siding home repainted by the Educated Painters. The time and care that they all put into the preparation of this house was more akin to restoration than "just" painting. Short of re-siding the entire house (at impossible cost), it looks as good as is humanly possible. The owner and entire crew were nothing but helpful and polite, hard-working people. After the initial work was done, and the final check was written, things seemed to "do a 180". I will add here that the original contract was for a certain dollar amount; after hearing much belly-aching about how much of his OWN money he had put into the job, I split the difference with him and ended up paying 17% over and above the original contracted amount (plus, of course, the extras for his "neurosurgeon" and carpenter). I had been assured that certain things would be done by the crew; and then those things would be done by the carpenter (at extra cost). Some of these things were not done. About 2 months after the completion, I was "given" a worker for 1/2 day to make things right. He did his best to fix things but could not resolve all issues (one of which was that the siding was actually two different colors - the only resolution would have been to re-spray the house; I was basically blamed because I had chosen a rich color). I note that this company gives a TWO WEEK guarantee and, although verbally assured otherwise, I see now that "it is what it is." Nails are already protruding through the paint, and cracks have appeared - which, by the way, are being blamed on the fact that it is an old wooden house (which it was at the beginning!) read more

Mark Harris, owner of Educated Painters took great pride in the paint job he did on my house. He mentioned several times that the job had gained him clients in the neighborhood. But the paint job was shotty and several exterior eaves began peeling after 2 months. And when it came to follow-up he was as pathetic as you can get. A lot of the corners and edges were missed or chipped so when we tried to get the paint codes from him to fix the spots he avoided our calls and then blamed his runaway assistant on loosing our paint colors. We spent over $5000 on the paint job and he didn't even have the decency to return our calls. They cut corners, literally, and are a waste of money. The details are what is important. Anyone can paint a house, but between the quality of the paint job, which was hurried and half ass, and then the horrible customer relations, it was truly a mistake for us to hire them. DO NOT HIRE the Educated Painters. They don't care about their customers at all. read more

The house had not been painted in 20 years and the condition of the exterior wood was pretty bad in places especially on the sun facing south side. Paint that bubbles after a couple of months .Guy's who can not cut a straight line with a brush. Workers that arrive on the job without a pressure washer, when I was assured the outside of my home would be pressure washed, and had to loan them mine, which they never used.
