Although quaint, it really bothered me that there wasn't more literature available on-site that explained what all the historic items on display were about. Was the harmonica a former possession of Old Man Nicholson? Seriously, there was a harmonica on display with a little white label next to it reading "harmonica." No duh it is a harmonica, but what is so important about it? It also really bothered me that there was a doll on display with her hair parted for pigtails and only one pigtail was secured with a ribbon. The other pigtail was just lose; she looked like a homeless lady off her meds. I spent a long time staring at that doll thinking of all the reasons the person who arranged the display left her like that: 1)It was arranged by a man. 2)Someone found the doll with only one original hair ribbon and realized it was missing a ribbon but did not buy matching ribbon from Jo-Ann's because she wrongly wanted to keep the doll "authentic." 3)The person had absolutely no clue what she was doing and she has no eye for design what so ever. Perhaps she is an accountant or banker. Either way, this person never spent a lazy summer afternoon braiding her sister's hair poolside, that's for damn sure.

The courtyard area is amazing as well. They have a downstairs area with several rooms each room has a tv easily ready for presentations. You can hear every noise from the upstairs area. It was literally like the movie stomp the yard. The floors constantly creak. Not an ideal space for classes in which I attended. More of a party space vs a learning event environment. You could visibly see the insulation in the ceiling. The bathrooms were clean but had the cheapest of toilet paper with butterflies on it. Overall this is a party venue not a total event space.

The space was well air conditioned inside and I felt comfortable during my whole visit. According to an article on Cleveland.com website, "The 10,000 square-foot building has a long history; it was originally a furniture showroom in the early 1900s, and it later became a banquet space and cultural center for Gordon Square's Vietnamese community. Holland and fellow business partners Kyle Lawrence, John Lawrence and K.C. Stitak led the vision for Gordon Green, and worked to maintain historic aspects of the property like its original hardwood floors and tin ceilings, according to a press release." Although there was a trailer, a tractor, and other homestead items at the bottom of the hill in the back, which was clearly visible. If you're looking for a place to get hitched and have a reception immediately following your wedding ceremony, this could be a decent option. There was a fair amount of parking available and a paved lot. I wouldn't call the venue glamorous, but it is definitely functional.

The decor has gorgeous juxtaposition with brick walls of the building. It's just gorgeous. You have to visit and take a million pictures. I felt like I was on the mini vacation. While this destination is on the rooftop, it also offers considerable amount of privacy. For instance, while walking up to the building, I wasn't able to see or hear the event I was attending. It's a big plus to have this privacy yet view the surrounding landmarks. As far as getting up there, find the door directly across from the entrance. Go up a few flights of stairs and arrive at the Canopy. The rooftop bar and event venue is only available for private events. I visited this location for a yoga class with Bottoms Up Yoga & Brew. There will be another class here in July (find it on Eventbrite). I really enjoyed the yoga class here. It accommodated our small group very well and we went for brews downstairs to the Market Garden Brewery right after. All of us were very impressed with this rooftop. The building is a Cleveland historical landmark featuring three floors of original woodwork, furniture and design. For weddings you can choose to have your own caterer or use their in house catering (Pearl of the Orient). Super cool not-so-secret secret: Go to the third floor for the old ballroom and billiards, now used as an indoor archery range (archery classes are hosted at the Club twice a month). Definitely a great venue for those looking for a historical setting.
