Incredible place to train with great instructors and people who want to help you succeedread more

I've been training at Alliance Jiu Jitsu for about 2 months and I've loved every minute of it. This…read moreis one of the few real Brazilian Jiu Jitsu schools around this area (they also do Muay Thai and Kali, but I haven't gone to those sessions). Instruction takes place every day of the week except Sunday. Most days, training is done wearing a gi (the uniform) and one day is reserved for no-gi classes. I can't recommend this place enough. Alex is an encyclopedia of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu knowledge and the other instructors are also well-trained and friendly. Alliance is the most prominent team in North America having won the world championships several years in a row. There's really no better team to train with in the country. Alliance's American headquarters are in Atlanta, but this is the only Alliance school within this area. Even if you have to pay a bit extra and drive a bit further, it's worth it because their reputation is unmatched. I did Taekwondo for a couple of years prior to Jiu Jitsu and I can honestly say I've found Jiu Jitsu to be on a different level. It's much more demanding physically (which is great because it helps you lose weight and condition your body) and is incredibly technical. It's also very difficult to fake being good at grappling, so you can see your progression very clearly over time. It will require patience because it's a complex, technical art, but you'll begin to notice results both in terms of your technique and your stamina within a few weeks. You will probably continue to get your butt kicked in class for a while, but you'll feel more confident in yourself and your ability to use self-defense techniques. The people here are also generally a friendly group. There's no "macho" vibe going on and everyone is very helpful in getting you to improve your game. Every day I finish class, I leave with a feeling happy and with a sense of accomplishment. There are people of all ages and all levels here. Give it a try!

At the time, the Karate Kid was popular and my parents had a coupon to the Dragon Gym, They figured, at the least, two weeks free training and a uniform would be a neat experience. For the next 14 years, the Dragon Gym transformed me into a disciplined, healthy, and focused individual, and helped lay the foundation for spiritual growth and introspection. It's so much more than an activity. It's a way of life. The current head master, Somnath Sikdar, and his partner, Master Lonnie Beck, came up with me through the ranks. After a 20 year absence from the area, I've returned to find that the current iteration of the gym has maintained what makes the Dragon Gym special, while adding different arts and programs and putting great effort into tailoring progression to fit a child's intellectual, physical, and psychological development. To sum it up, there's nothing like the integration of body, mind, and spirit coupled with the ability to focus and overcome challenges in your life. I cannot think of a better extracurricular practice for a child to grow into and be prepared for adulthood than becoming part of the Dragon Gym family.

There is always something to do at ATA West Chester, either a day camp to 5-day camps to one-on-one training. We now have both our kids involved, which has given them an extra outlet to learn confidence, honesty, hard work, real cognitive learning with the amount of moves and techniques they are shown. But then a year ago I…read morefollowed Drew to a new gym that was not a boxing centered gym but he taught boxing classes there. Only just to be a stepping stone while he was putting together his amazing family owned gym! When he finally opened the doors to Society Boxing and Fitness on December 1,2018 there was nothing but family coming together to make sure it was all ready to go for opening day! From the start this gym has been one big family! Going into a gym you always worry about people judging you or just not being very friendly! Especially in a small gym like this there is none of that. Each and every member is welcomed by Drew and Heather with open arms and are treated like family! I call this gym a second family from all the friendships that I have made over the last year! When I started training with Drew I had so many fears with boxing since I only ever had one good trainer who started teaching me and then had one who had no clue what they were doing. But within a few one on one sessions Drew really made those fears disappear and made me feel so much more confident. Coming from playing D1 sports I have always had the competitive edge to me and I love that Drew brings that out in me some days and really pushes me to overcome my hesitations. I could not be happier with my decision to start working out with Drew and to be a part of the awesome group of people in the gym! When people ask what I've been doing, my reply is "Whatever Drew says!" I trust his methods, knowledge and advice completely and will continue to work with him as long as he'll have me as a client! If you are looking an amazing gym that is a family you should come try out Society Boxing and Fitness! You will not feel like the new person at all because we welcome everyone and make them feel at home from the time they walk through the doors!

Would give them a five but, they are just trying to lock you in a contract and never hear from you again. This is all Fine if you're a casual practitioner, but they wont accommodate new talent. They just didn't think to promote me, While less skilled people who didn't compete at all soar to new heights. The goal is to see if martial arts and curriculum is applicable in high stress environments. I demonstrated this and was treated differently than everyone else. I Work 50+ hours a week full time and still found time for competition. That is not good business that makes me want to come back, But it is the truth.
