Love the owner; the canvases she stocks aren't the usual floral/animal motifs, and they have a HUGE selection of threads/wool/silk/etc!

If you want to have an incredible and unique date night, you have to hit up Julia at Culinary…read moreWorks. This was my first time and my husband's third time (they do corporate events as well). Julia had a beautifully curated meal planned for us, Italian themed called Italian Comfort Food. When we arrived, there was a delicious white bean dip with crackers and carrots. The dip was light and lemony and described as easy to make using a food processor. The group of 19 moved to an antipasto station where we created skewers with varying cheeses, meats, vegetables, peppers, and my favorite, the caper wrapped anchovy! Everyone took part in making the skewers and plating them, which is fun. Then each person chose a card that stated what station we would go to. My husband and I chose the meat lasagna. Other stations were a chicken lasagna, asparagus and arugula salad, garlic bread and homemade hazelnut ice cream. While at our meat lasagna station, we learned how to make the meat, a mixture of sausage and beef, the homemade lasagna noodles, the béchamel sauce. We layered the noodles, meat, cheese, ricotta and did it again. After 40 minutes, it came out oozing with deliciousness! I thought that nothing could taste better until I tried the chicken lasagna with white sauce. Omg! Incredible! I'm a "cook for survival" type of gal and I came out learning a few cool tips- like, to make the best garlic bread, wet the outside of the bread before putting it in the oven! The crust comes out with a bit of crackle but the inside is buttery, garlicky, soft! I don't see the process of making the ice cream, but I did get to enjoy it and boy did I! Chocolate, nutty, rich and creamy! My favorite dish of all though, was the asparagus salad- arugula and sliced almond with a wonderfully delicious dressing to top it off. It is easy, refreshing, light and could be a meal in itself. And as Julia said, "not every salad needs cheese," but if you must.... I would love some goat cheese on top. The best part of the evening, besides the 5* food, was the company! It was such a fun date night, the people in our group were so nice and friendly and Julia and James her assistant make it lighthearted and fun. I can't wait to return for another event. This made my week! @date_night_craves

Okay, so, I am not a great cook and never mastered basic cooking techniques. I love food, but can…read moreeasily become frustrated if something I cook just doesn't turn out right. My boyfriend and I wanted to try a cooking class for our anniversary, but the costs for going to a public cooking class are often very high. My boyfriend stumbled upon Jesse's website and it seemed really cool (and has pretty pictures), so he reached out. Jesse responds really quickly and we were lucky to secure a time slot for the weekend. Jesse offered to have a quick chat with us over the phone so he could come up with a customized menu for us and set expectations. For example, I don't eat seafood, so Jesse took that into account and made sure there wasn't a shrimp dish. Eventually, we landed on a Mexican taco menu (which was appropriate since Jesse is a master of tacos) because we wanted a menu that we could then easily take and make all the recipes ourselves. Jesse arrived promptly on time and set up his many kitchen tools and supplies in our kitchen. It's great that he can come to you! He was able to adapt easily to our kitchen set-up and get started. He started off with making us a salsa and guacamole so we could nibble as he gave us a ton of fun facts about cooking / food and prepped the other courses. He prints out his recipes so you can take notes as he goes along. The whole thing is very conversational, you never feel like he's talking AT you, but with you. You can ask him questions at any time. I never felt overwhelmed or felt like anything he was making or explaining was too difficult for me. In addition, I learned how to properly cut an onion and how to press tortillas. He had asked us beforehand if we wanted to be more hands-on, so he showed us how to cut the onion or press the tortillas and then we went ahead and helped with the prep. Not only was Jesse super knowledgeable and patient, the food he made was delicious. He even cleans up after cooking, which is a mega bonus! We had enough leftovers for another meal the next day. After taking his private cooking class, we both feel empowered and enthusiastic to learn and cook more. :) I definitely would work with The Maker's Kitchen again. His prices are extremely reasonable for the value you get, you get a very personalized experience (you're not lost in a class of 30), and he's a cool dude. You will learn a lot. You can tell that food is definitely his passion and that he's just trying to do what he loves to do (and educating others so that they hopefully can feel the same!). It's awesome! Thanks Jesse!
