I have done all 4 Escape Rooms at the Escape Artist. Spell Struck was my first ever Escape Room. I have since done numerous others and Spellbound remains one of my top 2 favorites that I've experienced. The ambiance and atmosphere was top notch. The variety of and creativity of the puzzles and clues in this room were among the best. My friend and I, both escape room virgins, escaped 1 minute late! (ugh) Dive to Atlantis was my second favorite out of the rooms at this location. My cousins from out of town joined us. They had never done an escape room and thoroughly enjoyed it. We were able to solve all the clues and get out in time. There was one particularly difficult puzzle but nonetheless we made it with time to spare. The same friend I did Spell Struck with and I did 13th floor and finished with time to spare. I wasn't as impressed with this room compared to the others and we were stuck in the "elevator" on a single clue for a long time near the beginning. Luckily we sped through the second half like a breeze, which was very padlock heavy (I don't like that), and we may have used hints we didn't need because we thought we were running low on time. We weren't. My roommate and I did Lost in Space and we really like this room. I would say the theming and atmosphere felt a little cheesy for a Space Station, but the clues and riddles were stimulating and we had a very fun time overall. Escape Artist deserves a 5 star rating, if for just Spell Struck alone, but they have 4 unique experiences. Two of the rooms have actual motion which is awesome. None are like any of the others so there is great variety. If you are looking for a great escape room, keep them on your list! read more

My sister and I love escape rooms. We play at least one (often 2 or more) each time we visit one another. This weekend we played the 13th Floor and Neon Shadows (Polybius). These were the last of the current Escape Artist and Sure Lock escape rooms we had yet to play and they were 2 of our favorites! 13th Floor featured the full motion effects, Escape Artist uses in some of their rooms. The room was smaller than some but the story elements were incredibly cohesive and they packed a ton of really creative puzzles into the space. Neon Shadows might be my favorite escape room to date. It was really hard but so much fun. Lots of the puzzle mechanics in the room felt new or novel and it was all really well integrated with the central theme. A wealth of geek and 80s references were a delightful bonus! Big thank you to our game masters this weekend, Gavin and Will. You both made our experience so fun and engaging. We'll definitely be back whenever there are more rooms to play. read more

Me, my kiddo and their friend (both 12) just did the "SPELL STRUCK!" room at The Escape Artist, and had an AMAZING time!!! The puzzles and the production design of the room were all top notch, and the story was a lot of fun. Our guide, Erin, was also amazing, and did such a great job setting the scene, explaining the "rules", and supporting us through the experience. My group has a bunch of first timers and generally not great puzzlers but we still managed to beat the room with 7ish minutes to spare. The room was thematic and our guide kept in character both during the intro and when we asked for hints. We booked two rooms (the 13th Floor and Spell Struck) for our son's 10th birthday party. The group was broken into two groups, and both reported having a tremendous amount of fun. If you asked me in advance, being locked in a room for an hour with five elementary school kids sounded like hell on earth, but it was a spectacular good time for both kids and adults alike. The puzzles were difficult enough for a single adult to find moderately magical when solved, but accessible enough for kids to work on and solve. Everything was in excellent shape, and the puzzles worked flawlessly. The narrative element seemed stronger than other escape rooms we'd done in Bellevue for our older son's birthday parties. I'd choose the Escape Artist over alternatives we've done. read more

Have been to a few escape rooms in other States and this one close to home in West Seattle was on my list for a while. We booked a slot for 4 if us on a Saturday and went in for Trapped in Space. Finding the entrance to this place was a little bit of a challenge but then thats why you have to report 15mins early! Once we got in we checked in, kept out belongings in lockers and our host walked us through the briefing. We felt this escape room was doable even with lesser folks but it was a smart one! We managed to escape with 12seconds remaining and felt really good! We could ask as many clues and some of the clues were direct helping us progress to the next step. Every minute we were all engaged finding different clues and answers and looking for pointers. All in all we enjoyed our escape room experience here. read more

Did the Trapped in Space room for a friend's birthday. We were 7 people, so our total was $266. I haven't felt so bad for spending this much money in 30 minutes in a long time. Don't get me wrong, it's not just that it's a lot of money for 30 minutes of entertainment. I've done many other escape rooms that charged similar fees per person and had a blast. Those escape rooms often had elaborate puzzles with cool gadgets, decorations, props and effects. There were often many clues at once that different people can work on at the same time. In addition to figuring out codes to unlock combination locks, they would sometimes involve slight physical challenges, or teamwork requiring constant communication. There's none of that here. The puzzles were way too easy. I have done ~20 escape rooms so far and this was by far the easiest one. In addition, there was sometimes only one clue at a time that only 2-3 people can work on at once, and the rest of us were twirling our thumbs. Almost all locks were 4-number combination locks, and props were very low-tech (eg. a whiteboard, a towel, transparency films, tin foil, and plastic dinosaur toys). That is all fine if this place was meant to be a low-budget escape room that would charge less than other ones and be more accessible, but $38-60 per person is definitely on the higher end for an escape room. The profit margin at this business must be humongous. One more thing that was annoying was that we had a walkie-talkie that was supposed to be meant to be used if we needed hints (which we didn't at all). However, the game master was watching us on the camera and kept talking to us to ask us where we are at and sometimes even gave us unprompted hints. It just completely destroys the atmosphere. Maybe they were rushing us out because they overbooked this room or something. I'm only giving it two stars because the staff was pretty nice. Given the good reviews, maybe I just tried the wrong room. But I would not spend so much money again to give this place another try. read more

As a first-time Escape Room-ee, I could not have imagined a better experience! Prior to going into the room, they have an escape wall in the lobby. I'm so thankful for this small set of puzzles since I honestly had no idea what to expect once we were inside! Our group of seven did "Trapped In Space". I won't give away any of the nitty-gritty details, but trust me when I say it was anxiety-inducing (in a good way!), challenging, and full of twists and turns. Plus, we got to wear space suits!! And... WE ESCAPED with only three minutes to spare, after using only two hints. I don't think we could have completed this room without all the wonderful minds we had in there! The staff here is exceptional. They do a fantastic job of setting the mood, getting you in the correct mindset, and making sure you are having fun. I can see why people get addicted to these things. My group and I definitely will go back and try the other two rooms. We're aiming to get on the leaderboard for at least one of the rooms! read more

Despite how close this place is to me, I never gave it a try before because rooms were public/had a chance of playing with strangers unless you bought all the spots. The silver lining of COVID-19 is that rooms are now private. You to have to wear a mask the entire time. They have masks available if you forget, along with gloves if you want. I played all 4 rooms in the last month (one a week) in this order: - Spell Struck - Dive to Atlantis - The 13th Floor - Trapped in Space These were rooms #32-35 for me. We did each with a group of 3. The first 3 rooms, everyone had at least the same level of escape room experience. The fourth room, we had one person where this was his third escape room ever. Still, I thought 3 was a good group size. The rooms were physically smaller than some other places I've been, but they made great use of the available space. Theming was immersive. You get a victory button if you escape, and the buttons "level up" for additional wins. It's a cute touch! You can also get a Seattle escape room passport here for $10. If you do one room at each participating company, you earn a mug and T-shirt! This is how I'd order the rooms per my level of enjoyment: 1. Spell Struck: I felt it has the best variety of puzzle mechanics. Escaped in 54 minutes. 2. Dive to Atlantis: You're in a shaking submarine! The motion was pretty fun, but you can turn it off if you prefer. Escaped in 50 minutes. 3. Trapped in Space: We found this one to be the hardest because we got stuck a couple times and needed hints. Escaped in 60 minutes, 3 seconds. We were just over the time limit, but counting it as a win! 4. The 13th Floor: This one also has motion for the elevator (that you can turn off if preferred). This one felt like it had more standard locks to solve than the others. I believe they plan to revamp it soon. Escaped in 43 minutes. read more

Six of us went to Trapped in Space at the Escape Artist--four adults and two boys aged 11. We had a blast, from the moment of entry (the unassuming building entrance) to the small front lobby (like a microtheater in NYC) to the actual experience, which we "won" with literally one minute to spare. The concept and puzzles were very well-designed... challenging but not too much (when we needed a hint, it was a "doh!" moment rather than "we never would have thought of that"). There were enough puzzles to solve that everyone was involved... we got to work together and independently. The kids loved it... I asked my son if he enjoyed this better or Cirque du Soliel which we saw a couple months ago at Climate Pledge Arena... he said Escape Room hands down; it wasn't even close. It was my second time ever doing an escape room, and I did the Dive to Atlantis, which has a 30-40% escape rate. This one is 70 minutes and is definitely harder than the other themes because we had another group of friends doing the Spell Struck and they thought it wasn't too difficult. But there were 6 of us and we escaped with 2 minutes left. I definitely think the puzzles were creative and their props are on new and on point, really gets you into the theme (better than the escape room I did before). My husband and I were visiting from California and one of our hobbies involve trying different escape rooms whenever we travel. We booked Spell Struck, which is our 76th escape game, and it easily made it to our top 10 rooms ever. The room was straightforward, immersive, and all the puzzles made sense (eventually). With the amount of experience we had, we were able to complete the room within the time limit, but at one point we were concerned that we weren't going to make it out. Definitely do it with another person or two if you are a beginner or if you do not have a couple of rooms tucked under your belt. Beware-- we had so much fun that wanted to book another room, but we didn't reach the room minimum... so I guess that means we will have to come back another time with our friends! read more

Newest room at The Escape Artist now completed! ROOM: Atlantis # OF PARTICIPANTS AND LEVEL OF EXPERIENCE: 6 people. This was our 26th room. We did it with two couple friends (one with almost as many rooms under their belt as we have, and other couple having done 7-8). DIVERSITY OF PUZZLES: As with the other rooms at this outfit, the variety and type of puzzles were extremely creative and fun. Five stars still for the production quality/technology of the puzzles consistent in all their rooms. As with the other rooms, there were several puzzles that can be worked on simultaneously, so that with a group of 6, everyone had a task to help with TRACKING TIME: The room had an analog clock prominently displayed to help you track time. IMMERSION/THEME: They did a great job with quality of décor and ambience to connect the room to the theme. They were many several very clever design elements that made the Atlantis theme really fun. You can tell they took pride in designing this room as the set was fantastic. Before we started, the host sat us on the couch in the entry lobby and spent some time telling us the story we were about to embark on. They also ask for a team name immediately, so be prepared with that! Unlike other rooms where the host is giving us the story (and it usually felt very short and rushed), the host here really took time to let the story unfold for us, which was nice to set up the anticipation. HOST PARTICIPATION: Once the host gave us the story outside of the room and walked us to the room, he left us in the room itself and left us. The host watches from outside of the room. I honestly don't recall if we ever ended up using a hint, so I can't recall the mechanism for asking for hints in this room. SUCCESS: We escaped! I would say 6 people was a really good group size for this room. If you're experienced and haven't done any rooms here, I'd say Spellbound and this one are the best ones. read more

13th floor. Having done escape rooms in multiple states, I would say that our family concluded it was at the bottom of our list. The theme was not very cohesive and well thought out, which could be overlooked in itself. However, the transition from one clue to another was not fluid. Mostly this is lack of storyline and storytelling. There is a lot of information thrown at you in briefing. The biggest piece of discomfort through this, is the fact that when you include a younger crowd, they will not retain as much, and adults space out. There was a lot of passive aggressive comments about other crowds who probably didn't make great choices, but that should not affect the rest of us who want to follow rules, have fun and solve a puzzle. They will ask to confiscate your phone and belongings and then give you a key (which we all know there is a master key). I kept mine in my secure shoulder bag and placed it in airplane mode. We did not make it out of this escape room, and when we stated that would would not like an extra ten minutes (out of shared frustration of the room and experience)--a staff member came in and started to guide us through the last few steps. Fine, but we were clearly already uninterested, felt the briefing was too much and now the puzzle not fun. We politely went through the motions, leaving us wanting to leave faster. PROS: This escape room has stickers on items you should not move, instead of guessing. You get a personal flashlight. You get a tablet to write on instead of paper and pen. The actress was very engaging and articulate when speaking to us. read more

Updating once more! A few weeks back I returned, this time as a team of 3, to play the new Atlantis game. Our team absolutely loved it! The minimum for this game is a hard 3 people, and it take absolutely required. A lot of the game physically requires 3 people at minimum. In a first for me, I'd actually recommend 4 people instead of 3 for experienced players, and about 6/7 for new players. Pros: 1. The motion submarine is amazing. I love the concept of the game and just the fun quirky ness thrown in whole voyaging the seas. 2. There is a lot of content, which was really fun 3. Props and set design were extremely well done. Probably my favourite design on site 4. Game master was incredibly polite and helpful. Loved their energy and helpfulness Cons: 1. Not entirely a con, but as a warning to people, the submarine you begin in is a little shorter than your standard room. One member of our group is 6'8" and had to duck just a tiny bit for a portion of the game. Something to note if you're really tall 2. There was a point in the game where we felt/knew we were correct but nothing happened. We reached for a clue but didn't hear back for a while and I realized it was probably due to it coinciding with the hour, so the GM was probably starting a room as it appeared that they might have been running all the games solo. Unfortunately we waited around for a bit and time ran out and turns out we were right, there was just a small mechanical hicccup. HOWEVER, the GM was nice enough to bypass it and gave us more time as we only have one puzzle left to do and it made the event even better that he went out of his way to do that for us After having played 3/4 of the games, I would definitely rate them: 1. Spell struck 2. Dive to Atlantis 3. The 13th Floor I have played approximately 170 games and spell struck is still in my top 6 games I've played. Missed seeing the owner/creator this time around, but can't wait to see what you come up with next! read more

I'm an enthusiast having done close to 150 rooms all over the country and Trapped in Space was easily one of the worst 5 rooms my group has done. There was literally no logic involved in any of the "puzzles" if you can call them that given literally no thinking was necessary to solve anything. Please do the escape community a favor and close the room, it's not worth anyone's time or money. Spellbound was good, I'd say 3.5 out of 5. Not amongst the best in Seattle but worth doing. That room was the only reason keeping me from having this location 1 star. read more

This is an amazing escape room experience. I've done around ~25 rooms in southern california and the seattle area. My seattle team have completed the 3 current rooms as of this date at this location, and we loved each one! My favorite room here is Spell Struck! It's currently my top favorite escape experience so far. Don't get me wrong though, all rooms here are well thought out! If you are new to escape rooms, I would suggest tackling '13th Floor', then 'Trapped in Space', with 'Spell Struck!' last! The staff is great as well! They do a great job of preparing you, setting the mood, and they know the rooms/puzzles really well just in case you might need some assistance. I'm kind of sad that I've completed all the current rooms, but I'm excited for the next!!! Bravo Escape Artist! read more
