We had such a wonderful time the last escape room we played in a Salt Lake City community (previously reviewed), we decided to try another adventure while visiting Ashton Gardens at Thanksgiving Point, this one very appropriately called The Escape Date in (the also appropriately named!) Pleasant Grove. Many of their rooms are designed for two people in mind, and the themes all looked so good, it was hard for us to decide on which game we wanted our first to be. Eventually, we settled for The Sweet Escape, and it proved to be a great choice. The Escape Date is located within different clusters of shopping malls - it is itself set up like many of the escape rooms in Orange County - not really good for showroom shopping, but easy parking, easy to find (go down the stairs!), and great for letting your imagination run wild when designing a quest! There is no café right next door, but plenty of nourishment establishments are located a short drive away. We stopped off at Beans and Brews right before our game, so we were properly caffeinated and ready when we met up with Elizabeth, our game host, in the small but nicely-decorated parlour. Elizabeth could have walked right off the set of The Good Shop Lollipop or Willy Wonka's Chocolate Factory. As it turned out, we were not trying to escape from anything. In fact, we were competing for a chance of a lifetime: to take over sweet magnate Louis VonSweet candy empire! Happily, we did not have to sit through an entire pre-filmed game rules video, and after a short introduction delivered by VonSweet himself, we were left to get started on our task. The video also served as a timer during our game, but clues were slipped to us under the door. Like other what we have come to call "First Generation" games, this fun hour had us solving riddles and linear puzzles, adding up numbers and being not just hands-on, but nose, eyes, ears and tastebuds on as well. The conventional locks and magnets all worked, and we did not think twice about it being a single room because we were fully engaged the entire time we were there. We loved how strictly they kept to the theme, and, even though I was a little reluctant to try one of the puzzles, that puzzle turned out to be my favourite challenge in the game. The maze, challenging our hand-eye coordination, was another memorable obstacle to our inheritance ... The Sweet Escape is the perfect date adventure, with a most delicious (ha!) price-point. It is also a full 60-minute game, and because we had just completed a 20-minute game, we outpaced ourselves and managed to become candy millionaires in 43:44! We loved the very flattering victory photos Matthew (also dressed in deference to theme) took of us on our phone, and when we used the restroom after our game, we found ourselves kept busy there, too! The Escape Date was a marvellous find, and we're thrilled to find even more games available that are built for a 2-person team. We can't wait to check them out again - it won't be long! read more

So fun! I love this place. It's so creative and I'm always amazed at the great story lines. Our host Mary was amazing! She never broke character which made the experience absolutely amazing. This is a great activity of all ages as we had older adults who still enjoyed their time. The difficulty was perfect as you can ask for hints if you need. We did the escape hotel this time and only had to ask for one hint. We finished barely before time was up which is always the best way so you don't finish too early and think it was a waste but get to feel accomplished and complete instead of left hanging when you don't win the room. I highly recommend coming here with a group of friends. It's not as overwhelming or dark as some other rooms I've been to and it's still super fun and can be mysterious and scary if you want it to be depending on the room you choose. read more

What a hidden gem! We found them online for an escape room in the area. We booked ahead (you have to do this) and did the escape motel room. The lobby is cute and decorated well. They also have a bathroom you can use before your room is ready as well. The employees were so kind and helpful! Our escape room was beyond creative! It was so fun and interactive. You can ask for clues when you need them. You have one hour to complete the room. We had a group of 5 and were able to complete the room with only minutes left. I highly recommend the Escape Date for an escape room. They have three total and plan to change out one or two this year. I can't wait to come back again! We had a blast! read more

Such a fun night!! We had a blast searching for the magician's hat and it was a fun first date location! We were able to make it out with a few minutes to spare! The puzzles were well thought out and we were stumped at points but worked through it to success! I would definitely come here again and highly recommend it to others for a great date experience! Might be the room we got which was in a trailer not all of them are in a trailer but one of the puzzle was broken which cost of so much time and unfortunately couldn't get the satisfaction of solving the room on time. The staff was nice to fix it and show us the room solved but was a let down for date night. read more

I believe this place pads their own reviews. We had a horrible experience here. The prices were outrageous for what it was. The clues were extremely obscure and impossible for anyone in their right mind to figure out. They gave us clue after clue after clue. Mid way through, we were losing interest and wanted to leave. This is a really fun escape room experience. We've been several times and have really enjoyed ourselves. Make sure that you book only the amount of people that can come though, and if you're in doubt, book fewer! They will let you add people last minute since you book the room no matter how many people are in your party, but if people can't come you are out the money no matter what. My daughters booked a room for a group of 8 of their friends and 3 of them ended up not being able to come last minute (covid and work). They wouldn't refund them anything so my poor daughter was out $60, which is really a shame because it really put a damper on their evening and they said they would never go back there again. read more

Don't let the parking lot, and area fool you. This is a good time! When you first drive up, it seems a little sketchy, but when you get into the building, it's much better. Mary did a great job getting us ready for our great escape. We did the magic room, and it was a lot of fun! Do you really have to think! This is, by far, the best escape room we've ever done. Our host was perfectly in character. Our group did the candy room puzzle. It was playful and fun. I love that it wasn't scary. The puzzles were challenging but not impossible. Our group, consisting of a 15 year old, 14 year old, and 12 year old and me solved the puzzle with six or seven hints and 3 minutes to spare. I've done a handful of Escape rooms and the Escape date is right up with the rest of them! The employees did a great job setting the scene and expectations as we got started. I recommend making a reservation and we were inside the room getting started within minutes of walking into the building. Our group did the "Sweet Escape" room which was perfect for a double date and had some very creative puzzles! It's impressive what they were able to do within the one room and my only complaint was that we wasted a lot of time on a puzzle that wasn't working correctly. We had the answer correct but the employee had to come in and unlock it so that we could continue and it sounded like we weren't the first to have this happen. I would absolutely go again to try the other rooms and I recommend checking Groupon for a discount or special promotion to make it that much more worth it. read more

Went to The Escape Date with two other couples and did the magic room on 4/24. It's in an obscure building and when we pulled in there wasn't anyone in the parking lot so we were a little unsure, but it was legit and a good time. It's in a medical office building and when you walk in it smells like an 80's dental office, but when you go into their space it doesn't smell, which was a relief. All in all this was my first escape room I've ever done and we had a great time. Seemed reasonably priced for what we got, but I've never prices or another room before. We look forward to going back when they finish the candy room with our kids. read more

Definitely a favorite with our family! Lots of parking, a clean lobby, fantastic employee in character who started us off perfectly. From the minute we entered Escape Date we felt like we were on an adventure. We got in to the Sweet Escape and all four of us went to work. The puzzles were ingenious but not too tricky and we had so much fun! Very original and creative and we had so much fun. We finished with time to spare and were graciously shown another room and were so tempted to stay and do another it was that good! So yes, we will be back and we will highly recommend this as a fun family activity or group date to everyone. read more

I've been here twice now, and both times have been AMAZING! The second time was a bit funnier, but I'll get to that in a minute. The employees are very kind and they are always in character. The lobby is cute and detailed, it feels sort of like you are in a film set, but from the outside, it looks like some sort of Hollywood movie's mental hospital, smells like a normal hospital too. My first time at the Escape Date was in the "Sweet Escape" room. I don't want to spoil it much for you, but there were great photo opportunities and this room seemed to be really good for young kids and families so it felt a bit childish at some points, but that's not a bad thing! We finished that room with literally 1 second left!My second time there was today for my birthday week. We went to the "Escape Motel" room. This was so fun! The guy who was helping out our group was constantly in character. My friend made a joke by calling for help and asking for a towel. I said to my friend "if he comes back with a towel, I am genuinely going to die of laughter." and man, I was not expecting what happened next. When the hint came, the employee came in with a little blue rag saying "I couldn't find any towels, but I hope this rag works!" I don't know if the employees would do that with any other group but it made us all happy, so we made a joke saying "bring us a note about LoOoOoOvE!" And in our next hint, the word "love" had a special feature. We finished with one minute left, and that's with a group of afters and tech people! The set design is great too! My only "complaint" on this place is the fact that they only have so many Escape rooms, but keep in mind, it's not a massive place. Overall, great place, great storylines and sets, great employees, absolutely amazing humor and guest interaction, and I just want to say thank you to the employee who gave us a random blue rag that we named "Carl", yes, we named a rag. Oh! I forgot to mention, there's one part where the employee helping you jumps out to scare you if you win, and my mom jumped out and scared the employee when he was trying to scare us, sorry random employee! Escape Date was awesome. We went as a party of 6 so we did the more challenging room, the Motel Room. It was a great challenge, we were able to escape with 1 min to spare! The room had great detail and a scary story. The riddles were tough, but very doable. But I am excited to go back with just 2 people and do one of the easier rooms-- That's one of the greatest benefits of the Escape Date is you don't need to find a big group, or go with strangers. If you only have 2 people, then that's all you have to pay for. read more

The building is unassuming from the outside, but inside is beautiful and our hosts were in character! We found out we scheduled for the wrong day and were so disappointed, as we were on a short trip. Mathew was awesome! They nearly fully booked, but he got us worked in and really saved the night for our kids.
